Gwinnett Braves Announce June Grant Recipient

Lindsay’s Legacy Mentoring, Inc. receives $1,000 monthly grant

Gwinnett BravesThe Gwinnett Braves have announced the recipient of their $1,000 grant for the month of June. Lindsay’s Legacy Mentoring, Inc. has been awarded June’s “Summer Safety” themed grant, aimed at assisting organizations that fund or run safety programs for children.

Lindsays-Legacy-MentoringLindsay’s Legacy Mentoring began serving students in Jackson County schools in 2005 under the direction of Jackson County Family Connection. In March of 2013, LLM branched out and became a youth-serving non-profit organization dedicated to friendship-based mentoring throughout Jackson County.

The goal of LLM is to guide children and youth toward personal and academic success through mentoring and friendship. The grant money awarded by the G-Braves will be used for mentor training, informational brochures and activity supplies in hopes to continue the ongoing growth of the program.

“We accomplish our mission by pairing volunteers who are positive adult role models with carefully selected students in need of a mentoring relationship,” said Lisa Stephens, Executive Director of Lindsay’s Legacy Mentoring. “Lindsay’s Legacy Mentoring uses an effective friendship-based mentoring model and partners closely with three school systems in Jackson County, GA. Through training, screening and follow up, mentors are able to identify the needs of students they serve. Since the humble beginning in 2005 by a handful of caring citizens, Lindsay’s Legacy mentors have impacted the lives of thousands of students in Jackson County. The program provides a safety net that would otherwise not be available to some very deserving students.”

About Lindsay’s Legacy Mentoring: The organization has been around for over nine years and is based in Jackson County, GA. LLM has served over 130 students in the Jackson County, 38 students in Jefferson City and 32 students in the Commerce City school systems with caring adult mentorship. The program continues to grow under the principles of former mentor coordinator Jack Lindsay. Sand Gnats to Honor Military on Thursday with Free Admission to JCB Military Appreciation Night

Savannah-Sand-GnatsThe Savannah Sand Gnats will hold JCB Military Appreciation Night at Historic Grayson Stadium this Thursday, July 31. The Gnats will honor the service off Savannah’s military community by offering free general admission tickets to any military, both veteran and active duty, with a valid military I.D.

Sand Gnats players and coaches will wear special military camouflaged jerseys as they take on the Hickory Crawdads, a Texas Rangers affiliate. The jerseys will be auctioned off for charity during the game, with winners receiving their autographed jerseys from players and coaches on-field after the game.

“We all owe a debt of gratitude for the brave men and women serving stateside and abroad, and we hope to see plenty of military families from across the Coastal Empire for a great night of baseball and a tribute to their service,” said Sand Gnats president John Katz. “Thanks to JCB, we were able to coordinate this great camouflaged jersey auction in an effort to raise funds for military charities,” continued Katz.

Fans will also be treated to half-priced draft beer and soda thanks to Thirsty Thursday sponsored by Budweiser, Coors Light, Miller Lite, Connect Savannah, E93, and I-95 FM.

The Third Infantry Division’s Third CAB Color Guard will present the colors, while Third CAB Commander Colonel John Kline will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Sergeant First Class Dana Fischl, also of the Third Infantry Division, will sing the National Anthem as part of the pre-game ceremonies.

G-Braves Announce 2014 Baseball Buddies Camp

Gwinnett BravesThe Gwinnett Braves will host their 2014 Baseball Buddies Camp at Coolray Field on Saturday, August 30 from 9 AM to 12 PM. The camp is open to anyone ages eight and up with special needs.

For $20, each Baseball Buddies camp participant will receive hands-on instruction from Gwinnett Braves players and coaches. Each participant also receives a Camp T-shirt and lunch, as well as an opportunity to get autographs and take pictures with the G-Braves.

Each sign-up also includes one (1) Baseline Box ticket for the August 30 game against the Charlotte Knights at 7:05 PM. Camp participants will get to take the field for a special pre-game parade that night.

Spots for the 2014 Baseball Buddies Camp are limited and expected to fill up quickly. To register, download the form from GwinnettBraves.com and turn it in to the Community Relations Department at P.O. Box 490310, Buford, GA 30043. The form can also be faxed to 678-277-0338.

Blood Drive August 7

G-Braves Team Up with Vs. Cancer Foundation

Gwinnett players, coaches, front office members to raise funds to cure kids’ cancer

 

Gwinnett BravesThe Gwinnett Braves announced a partnership with the Vs. Cancer Foundation to Cure Kids’ Cancer. G-Braves’ players, coaches and front office staff members are participating in fundraising efforts for the foundation, culminating with “G-Braves Vs. Cancer Night” at Coolray Field on Saturday, August 30.

If the Gwinnett Braves raise their collective team goal of $10,000 by August 30, then select players, coaches and front office members will shave their heads prior to the 7:05 PM game against Charlotte. G-Braves’ field manager Brian Snitker, already sporting the shaved-head look, has pledged to shave off his trademark mustache if the goal is reached.

Vs-Cancer-logoFans can donate now by going online to gbraves.vs-cancer.org. Half of all proceeds will benefit national childhood cancer research, and the other half will help kids directly with the Rally Foundation.

Gwinnett’s fundraising efforts are part of a larger “Baseball Vs. Cancer 2014” campaign. A total of 128 teams across the minor league, collegiate, high school and youth ranks are taking part, with a total goal of $750,000.

Grace Faith Ministries, GLUE Foundation receive $1,000 monthly grants

The Gwinnett BravesGwinnett Braves have announced the recipients of their $1,000 grants for the months of March and April. Grace Faith Ministries has been awarded March’s “Salute to the Arts” themed grant, aimed at assisting organizations that support art programs and education. GLUE Foundation has received April’s “Take me out to the Ballgame” themed grant, intended to promote youth athletics and activities in the community.

Grace Faith Ministries, the March recipient, started as an open “Jam Session” within a small group of high school and middle school-aged artists, but quickly evolved into a weekly program in Norcross. The goal of the ministries is to encourage and teach youth how to impact the community through creative arts.

Since its inception in 2012, the program has grown in size and has collaborated with Heir of Excellence Inc., to launch a school-based program. The program is growing and becoming an influential presence in the community.

The grant awarded by the Gwinnett Braves will fund the purchase of after-school snacks and equipment for the program, as well as contribute to an end-of-semester youth showcase.

“We understand the importance of youth development as well as the obvious impact and influence of media as an intricate element in the lives of young people,” said Lloyd George, Youth Coordinator at Grace Faith Ministries. “Therefore, our ministry utilizes media arts to reach and engage youth – meeting them where they are. Our overarching vision is to create dynamic, socially relevant programs wherein our youth can constructively communicate with their community and the world around them in them new exciting ways. With this grant from the Gwinnett Braves Foundation, we will be able to expand our youth initiatives and student-media projects.”

GLUE Foundation, recipient of the April grant, has served the city of Lawrenceville for over 10 years. The foundation provides athletes with the necessary resources to become well-rounded contributors to society.

Founded in 2003 by Rishal Stanciel, GLUE, which is an acronym for Giving Love Unites Everyone, is a faith-based non-profit that is designed to work with middle school and high school student-athletes as they pursue academic and athletic excellence. GLUE facilitates workshops for student-athletes and their parents to prepare them for the transition to college.

GLUE will use the grant awarded by the Gwinnett Braves to support quarterly workshops and to provide ACT exam fees, college application fees, as well math and writing tutoring fees.

GreenJackets to Host Blood Drive on May 17th with Shepeard Community Blood Center

Augusta-GreenJacketsThe Augusta GreenJackets announced today that they will be hosting the Shepeard Community Blood Drive as a part the home game at Lake Olmstead Stadium vs. the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Saturday, May 17th with first pitch at 7pm. The Community Blood Center will be outside the main stadium gates receiving donations between 6 PM and 9 PM to help those in need around the CSRA.

Shepeard-Community-Blood-Center“As your community blood bank, and the contracted provider of blood and blood products to 20 local hospitals, including GR Health, and the regional burn center, Shepeard must collect 144 units each day to meet the needs of local patients”, said Greg Bearden, Assistant Director of Community Resources. “We are grateful to sponsors like the Augusta GreenJackets and our faithful family of donors who are helping us reach this goal to save local lives.”

This will be the second time Shepeard Community Blood Center has come to Lake Olmstead Stadium. Back in March, the Center came to BuzzFest and had a respectable turnout. The Center will be coming back to Lake Olmstead four more times throughout the season. 

“Shepeard Blood Center is not only an important part of the community but a great organization to work with,” said GreenJackets GM Tom Denlinger. “With our commitment to the CSRA it is our pleasure to host a blood drive at the ballpark and tie in with great partners like Shepeard Blood Center and GR Health!”

Georgia Regents Medical Center, who works closely with Shepeard Community Blood Center, will also be at the game. The first 1,000 fans inside the stadium will receive a visor courtesy of GR Health. Fans who donate blood at the Community Blood Center will receive a FREE ticket to Shepeard Blood Center Night with the GreenJackets on June 6th. Plus kids 12 and under can run the bases after the game.

Kia Country Pink in the Park This Saturday

Savannah-Sand-GnatsOn Saturday, May 17, the Savannah Sand Gnats will join forces with Kia Country of Savannah and Susan G. Komen For the Cure Coastal Georgia Affiliate to bring awareness to breast cancer education and research.

“Pink in the Park is one of the most emotional nights of the season,” said team president, John Katz. “We celebrate the Survivors, remember those that lost the fight, and reinforce the message that early detection is critical.”

Susan-G.-KomenAs in years past, Sand Gnats players and coaches will take the field in special pink jerseys. Throughout the game, fans are encouraged to bid on each jersey. After the game, the highest bidders will be presented with their jersey by their respective player or coach.

All proceeds from the pink jersey auction go directly to Susan G. Komen For the Cure Coastal Georgia Affiliate.

“It is through the generous support of Kia Country of Savannah that provides the opportunity for us to donate 100% of the proceeds from the Jersey Auction to Susan G. Komen for the Cure Coastal Georgia Affiliate,” added Katz.

Any breast cancer survivors who participated in the most recent Race for the Cure on April 12, are asked to wear their race t-shirt for free admission to the baseball game. Rome Native Commissioned on Education Day May 13

Rome-BravesThe Rome Braves would like to invite fans to join us for the May 13 Education Day game as a local resident is commissioned as a Marine Second Lieutenant.

John Michael Howard is a native to Rome, GA and is the son of David Carlton Howard and Sylvia Ann Howard. Michael is a 2014 graduate of Berry College with a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Economics. Upon graduation, Michael will be commissioned as a Marine Second Lieutenant through the United States Marine Corps Platoon Leader’s Class. Second Lieutenant Howard’s next assignment will be The Basic School in Quantico, VA.

The Rome Braves take on the Asheville Tourists on May 13th at 10:30am.

Rome-BravesThe Rome Braves and Blood Assurance are presenting a Meet the Team Pancake Breakfast on Saturday May 10th from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Three Rivers Club Restaurant at State Mutual Stadium. Tickets are just $8 and that includes all you can eat pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice.

Half the team and staff will be autographing from 8-9 am and the other half will be out from 9-10 am. Romey and Roxie will be available for photos & autographs as well. Jacob G. Smith Wins Doubles for Technology Grant

Thomas and Hutton supports technology needs with generous donation

Savannah-Sand-GnatsThe 2013 South Atlantic League Champion Sand Gnats were fantastic to watch throughout last season. While their pitching was dominant from Opening Night through the League Championship, one offensive stat will pay dividends for school children in the Savannah area.

Thanks to a generous pledge from Thomas & Hutton and 116 doubles at Historic Grayson Stadium from the potent Gnats’ lineup, Jacob G. Smith Elementary will receive a $2,900 technology grant. Thomas and Hutton will present the check to the school on the field at Historic Grayson Stadium just before the Sand Gnats game on Friday, May 16.

“This is a great partnership between Thomas & Hutton and the Sand Gnats,” said Sand Gnats team president, John Katz. “Both of our organizations are passionate about education and we’re excited to be able to help Jacob G. Smith Elementary expand their access to technology.”

“Thomas & Hutton is excited about providing this grant to Jacob G. Smith Elementary for their use in expanding technology,” stated Ben Jones with Thomas & Hutton. “Our partnership with the Sand Gnats provided us with a great opportunity to place technology directly into a classroom and to help our students prepare for a successful future.”

J.G. Smith Elementary was named a “Title I Highest-Performing Reward School” in 2014 by the Georgia Department of Education and is ranked among the top five percent of Title I schools in Georgia, having the highest absolute performance over three years for the “All Students” group on the statewide assessments.

The grant will be used for the school to purchase Chromebooks, providing second grade students and their teachers the opportunity to utilize another technology resource that will enhance instructional practices in reading and math and help students prepare for testing such as the Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) and Measures of Academic Progress (MAP). Additionally, students will be more prepared for the Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT) which begin in the third grade.

Fifth Third Bank (Georgia) Partners with the Augusta GreenJackets to Launch Annual Strike Out Hunger! Food Drive

Augusta-GreenJacketsToday, Fifth Third Bank (Georgia) announced it is going to bat with the Augusta GreenJackets – to launch Strike Out Hunger! This community food drive will run from April 18 through May 3 (“Fifth Third Day” on 5/3) and is aimed at collecting enough products to feed 5,300 families in the Atlanta Metro area. 

Members of the community are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items – such as canned fruits and meats, peanut butter and boxed cereal – to participating Fifth Third Bank financial centers. While supplies last, the bank will give baseball game tickets to those who make a contribution to the food drive, courtesy of the Augusta GreenJackets.

“We believe that a continual investment in our community can make a meaningful impact. Each year, the bank recognizes its employees, customers and the communities it serves on the third day of the fifth month – or 5/3 on the calendar,” said Randy Koporc, president of Fifth Third Bank (Georgia). “We’re proud to be working with top-notch organizations like the Augusta GreenJackets, the Gwinnett Braves, Kennesaw State University, the Atlanta Community Food Bank and the Golden Harvest Food Bank to help families and children in need throughout the Atlanta area.” 

Golden-Harvest-Food-BankAfter the month-long food drive, the bank will deliver food donations to the Golden Harvest Food Bank, which will in turn feed thousands of families. 

“The need for food in our community continues to grow, and the donated items will directly help people right here in our own backyards,” said Rebecca Hersey, Chief Advancement Officer for the Golden Harvest Food Bank. “Last year, we distributed more than 16.2 million pounds of food through our network of more than 300 agencies – translating to more than 438,000 families who benefit from our efforts annually. We are grateful that Fifth Third Bank has once again focused on contributing to our mission to fight hunger and provide hope.”

Gwinnett BravesThe Gwinnett Braves are set to bring back Youth Baseball Camps for the 2014 season. The G-Braves will be holding their annual three-day baseball camps at Coolray Field in June and July.

There will be two separate three-day camps. The first session will run from June 24-26, while the second and final session will go from July 21-23. G-Braves’ players and coaches will teach kids what it takes to become the best ballplayer they can be. Campers will learn basic fundamentals like hitting and pitching and specialized skills like bunting and base running.

The camp is open for kids ages 8-14 and will run from 9 AM to 12 PM each day. Each participant will receive a T-shirt at the beginning of camp and will be served lunch at the conclusion of each session. On the final day, the players and coaches will gather for an autograph session with the kids. In addition to the instruction and player interaction throughout the three days, each camper will receive two Field Box Tickets for a Gwinnett Braves home game and will get to take the field as part of the “High Five Tunnel” prior to the game action.

Three-Day Camp registration is $100. All campers who participate in the Three-Day Camps will receive the following:

  • G-Braves Baseball Camp T-Shirt
  • Two (2) Field Box Tickets
  • Lunch on all three days

G-Braves Partner with Fifth Third Bank on “Strike Out Hunger” Food Drive

Local Bank Aims to Collect Enough Food Donations to Feed 5,300 Families to Help Celebrate “Fifth Third Day”

Kennesaw, Ga. – Today, Fifth Third Bank (Georgia) announced it is going to bat with the Gwinnett Braves – to launch Strike Out Hunger! This community food drive will run from April 18 through May 3 (“Fifth Third Day” on 5/3) and is aimed at collecting enough products to feed 5,300 families in the Atlanta Metro area.

Members of the community are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items – such as canned fruits and meats, peanut butter and boxed cereal – to participating Fifth Third Bank financial centers. While supplies last, the bank will give baseball game tickets to those who make a contribution to the food drive, courtesy of the Gwinnett Braves.

“We believe that a continual investment in our community can make a meaningful impact. Each year, the bank recognizes its employees, customers and the communities it serves on the third day of the fifth month – or 5/3 on the calendar,” said Randy Koporc, president of Fifth Third Bank (Georgia). “We’re proud to be working with top-notch organizations like the Gwinnett Braves, Kennesaw State University, the Augusta GreenJackets, the Atlanta Community Food Bank and the Golden Harvest Food Bank to help families and children in need throughout the Atlanta area.”

After the month-long food drive, the bank will deliver food donations to the Atlanta Community Food Bank, which will in turn feed thousands of families.

“The need for food in our community continues to increase, and the donated items will directly help people here in our own backyards,” said Bill Bolling, Founder and Executive Director of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. “Each year, we distribute more than 45 million pounds of food to help feed the food insecure through our network of more than 600 partner agencies throughout metro Atlanta and north Georgia. To take part in fighting hunger and receive tickets to the Gwinnett Braves vs. Lehigh Valley Ironpigs on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 7:05 p.m., residents can drop off food donations at financial centers in Alpharetta, Atlanta, Duluth, Lawrenceville, Loganville, Roswell, and Norcross from April 18 through May 3.

Gwinnett Braves Continue Non-Profit Partnership Series in 2014

Team to continue helping local organizations raise awareness, funds for third straight season

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – The Gwinnett Braves have announced plans to continue their Non-Profit Partnership Series for a third straight season in 2014. Introduced in 2012, the series is an all-inclusive program that allows multiple organizations who volunteer for a common cause to rally together on themed nights that correspond with the Gwinnett Braves Grant Program. The goal is to help local organizations raise awareness and funds for their causes all season long.

The Non-Profit Partnership Series will continue to follow the monthly themes of the Gwinnett Braves Grant Program, giving special recognition to grant recipients from 2013 and 2014. Each grant theme will be assigned a different game date during the 2014 season. Respective grant recipients will be given free promotion and acknowledgement on their date as well as a concourse table, pregame video PSA, on-field check presentation and tennis toss profit (when applicable).

All grant applicants will be given free tickets for the event and will have the opportunity to purchase additional tickets as a fundraiser. Applicants who were not selected to receive a grant will be given a concourse table if they purchase 30 or more additional tickets. The group who purchases the most tickets will have an opportunity to spread their message via a live radio interview.

The series is not just limited to grant applicants. All non-profit groups whose causes fit the event theme are invited to participate.
