Ports Release 2017 Community Relations Report

STOCKTON, Calif.- Through the organization’s non-profit sector, the Anchor Fund, the Ports gave $32,464 in monetary donations and nearly $240,000 of in-kind donations to local non-profits within the San Joaquin community in 2017. Through various fundraisers held at Banner Island Ballpark, the Ports were able to raise almost $11,000 with the help of generous fans.

The revenue-leading event was the eleventh annual Pink Night, in which $5,493 benefited Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center. Additional fundraisers included Root Beer Float Day and Youth Baseball Camps presented by Amy L. Scriven, DDS., and Anchor Fund Weekend.

The Ports also had over 50,000 individuals participate in community programs such as Silver Sluggers presented by SCAN Health Plan, Amy L. Scriven, DDS. Kids’ Club, Baseball by the Books courtesy of Smack Pie Pizza, and the Summer Reading Program in partnership with San Joaquin County Libraries. Additionally, the Ports teamed up with Valley First Credit Union for this year’s Community Corner. Valley First donated 625 tickets to the Anchor Fund, and the Ports matched that donation for tickets to be distributed in the community.

Through these outreach programs, the Ports were able to provide people of all ages with donated or discounted tickets.

New to the 2017 season, the Ports partnered with Sutter Gould Medical Foundation to create a program called “Community Person of the Month,” in which select members of the local community were recognized in a monthly pre-game ceremony and a $500 donation was made to a non-profit organization of each recipient’s choice.

Finally, the Ports’ mascot, members of the front office, and Ports players were out in the community approximately 180 days out of the 2017 calendar year for events such as Little League Opening Ceremonies, school and library visits, grassroots events, and more.

“We are proud of the impact the Ports Community Department has made in the city of Stockton and beyond, in conjunction with the many people and organizations in our market,” said President Pat Filippone. “Over the 10 years since we’ve established the Anchor Fund, the Ports have remained committed to supporting the community and we look forward to growing upon this season’s success in the upcoming year.

The Stockton Ports’ Anchor Fund was established in early 2007 and has helped support many community projects, with a primary focus on youth centers and youth sports. The charitable fund reflects and reaffirms the Ports’ commitment to strengthening the community using baseball and entertainment as a backdrop, with 457 non-profit organizations receiving donations in 2017.

Sounds Donate to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee on Giving Tuesday

The Nashville Sounds announced today that, in partnership with BUSH’S® Beans, they will provide a donation to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee as part of #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration, on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely-recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports generosity and philanthropy.

This past season, Renato Nuñez was named the BUSH’S Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the Pacific Coast League at the 2017 Triple-A All-Star Game in Tacoma, Washington, after belting a three-run home run in the PCL’s 6-4 win over the International League. As an extension of this award, BUSH’S and the Sounds will provide a $1,000 donation to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.

“In the spirit of giving, the Sounds are pleased to team with BUSH’S Beans to make a donation to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee on behalf of the MVP performance by slugger Renato Nuñez,” said Sounds General Manager Adam Nuse. “The effort and work of Second Harvest Food Bank is vital to providing meals for the hungry in Nashville and the surrounding communities. The Sounds organization is honored to pair with such outstanding people trying to better our community.”

BUSH’S Beans sponsored 11 All-Star Game MVP awards throughout Minor League Baseball this summer. BUSH’S is making a donation to a local charitable organization chosen by each MVP Award winner’s home club.

RockHounds to Donate to Big Brothers Big Sisters on Giving Tuesday

Sounds Present Donation to The Legion Fund

On Wednesday, November 15, representatives from the Nashville Sounds and Tennessee 811 presented a donation of $4,000 to The Legion Fund at Fort Campbell.

During the 2017 season, the Sounds wore special military green jerseys every Sunday at First Tennessee Park. The donation money was raised through the annual military jersey auction hosted by the Nashville Sounds Foundation.

The Legion Fund is a charitable organization – out of Nashville – dedicated solely to assisting the soldiers and families of the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) – ‘The Legion.’ The 5th Special Forces Group, organized in 1961 and located at Ft. Campbell since 1988, continues as the most highly decorated unit within the United States Army Special Forces.

Over the past fifty-plus years, ‘The Legion’ served in the Vietnam War, Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm during the Gulf War, Operations Restore Hope and United Shield in Somalia, Operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn in Iraq, and Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan

Throughout the day, Sounds and Tennessee 811 representatives toured the 5th Group compound with CSM(R) Mike Cunningham and CSM(R) Frank McFadden, along with Nancy Mullen, Legion Fund Advisory Board Member and 5th Group Gold Star widow.

In June of 2017, the Nashville Sounds Foundation was presented with a wooden Gladius by The Legion Fund. The wooden Gladius is traditionally presented within the unit to exemplary members of the unit or friends of the unit for their support of its soldiers and families.

Lake Monsters Free Family Fun Fest November 18th

The Vermont Lake Monsters will be hosting their fifth annual FREE Family Fun Fest on Saturday, November 18th from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm in the Blue Ribbon Pavilion at the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction.

Join CHAMP and the Lake Monsters for a morning of FREE fun and activities that will feature:

  • A special appearance by everyone’s favorite mascot, CHAMP, who will be on hand to take pictures, and sign autographs
  • Fan-favorite inflatable games including the speed pitch and obstacle courses
  • CHAMP coloring and activity stations
  • Free hot dogs for fans in attendance, while supplies last, courtesy of McKenzie Country Classics & Freihofer’s
  •  A wide variety of snakes, lizards and other reptiles to see, hold and take pictures with, thanks to 802 Reptiles
  • Raffles with lots of great prizes to be given away

Even though it is a free event, the Lake Monsters are encouraging all attendees to bring at least one non-perishable food item as we host the New England Ford Dealers’ Fill-A-Ford truck, with all food being donated to the Vermont Foodbank.

This free event is possible thanks to the generous support from Free Press Media, Hall Communications (WOKO and KOOL 105), Kids & Fitness Williston, McKenzie’s Country Classics, Freihofer’s, New England Federal Credit Union, and Mater Christi School.

Sounds, Partners Collaborate To Support Breastfeeding

August 17, 2017

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Nashville Sounds, in conjunction with several Metro Nashville departments, community partners, and the Tennessee Titans, have collaborated on a Public Investment Plan (PIP) to purchase two mobile lactation units which will be used at Sounds games, Titans games and events, and other Metro events beginning in late August.

The groups will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the pods prior to the Sounds’ game on Tuesday, August 29 at First Tennessee Park. Speakers from the Mayor’s Office, Metro Public Health Department, and Metro Sports Authority will participate in the program.

This event is open to the public but they must purchase a Sounds ticket, as the pod is located on the concourse of First Tennessee Park.

BURLINGTON, VT — The Vermont Lake Monsters are excited to announce the continued partnership with Five Guys Burgers and Fries during the annual May Days fundraiser to benefit non-profits from across the state of Vermont. “Five Guys May Days” fundraiser will launch May 1st as a month-long program devoted to helping raise funds and awareness for state wide non-profits.

Support of local non-profits has demonstrated the strong commitment both the Lake Monsters and Five Guys have to the greater Burlington community. The goal of this program is not only to provide the opportunity for organizations to raise money, but also raise awareness for their programs while providing a chance for supporters to come together at the ballpark.

The Howard Center is just one of the many local non-profits who has benefitted from participating in Five Guys May Days and will continue the tradition this year. “Throughout the year, we benefit from the generous support of the Lake Monsters.” said Catherine Shahan, Director of Community Friends Mentoring at the Howard Center. “We appreciate our community partnership as it provides opportunities for many of our clients to enjoy an afternoon or evening of baseball, hot dogs, and fun!” Thank you, Lake Monsters for giving back and ensuring the whole community has access to your programs.”

Organizations will then be recognized on field with a check presentation at a Lake Monsters game this season.

Sounds Announce 2017 Scholarship Program Details

For the second consecutive year, the Nashville Sounds Foundation will award four $2,500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan to attend college in fall of 2017.

The program began in 2016 and is designed to help four deserving Nashville and Middle Tennessee students help pay for college tuition during their freshman year.

“Our community initiatives and being connected to the youth of Nashville and Middle Tennessee is a responsibility we take seriously,” said General Manager Adam Nuse. “The fundraising efforts throughout the 2016 season have allowed us to play a small role in fulfilling the dreams of these graduating seniors. Our fans play a huge role in this program and we are very thankful for their continued support.”

Interested seniors must complete the application process at www.nashvillesounds.com. The process includes submitting a two to three-page essay answering the following prompt: “Define what leadership means to you and how you have demonstrated leadership ability either in or outside of school. How will you continue to positively impact your community after graduation?”

In addition to the essay, each submission must include at least two letters of recommendation from teachers and/or coaches, and an official high school transcript. The scholarship will be awarded based on the culmination of the student’s school work, extracurricular activities and involvement in the community.

Each winner will receive tickets to a select Nashville Sounds game during the first homestand of the 2017 season and will be recognized during a pre-game ceremony. The deadline to considered for the 2017 scholarships is Friday, February 17, 2017.

Winners from 2016 include Alex Abernathy of Central Magnet High School (University of Tennessee), Arianna Hunter of Lead Academy High School (University of Memphis), Micah McDowell of Oakland High School (University of Kentucky) and Stuart Warner of Marshall County High School (University of Tennessee-Martin).

Nashville Sounds Foundation to Host 2nd Annual “Suites-N-Treats” Event October 26

The Nashville Sounds Foundation will host its second annual “Suites-N-Treats” event on Wednesday, October 26 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at First Tennessee Park.

The pre-Halloween event is designed as an opportunity for underprivileged youth in the greater Nashville area to trick-or-treat in a safe and fun environment. Children can walk the Club Level at First Tennessee Park and visit each uniquely decorated suite to collect treats.

Other activities for children include decorating their own trick-or-treat bags, face-painting, complementary food provided by Centerplate and drinks provided by Coca Cola. Each child will have the opportunity to meet and take pictures with Sounds mascot Booster.

The Sounds have teamed with several non-profit organizations to invite children to the private event. Close to 600 children will participate with the help of the following organizations: Big Brothers Big Sisters, First Steps, Dreams and Wishes, and the Martha O’Bryan Center.

“The Sounds organization is very thankful for the support from these tremendous non-profit organizations,” said Adam Nuse, Sounds General Manager and COO. “With their help, our goal of providing a safe and memorable trick-or-treating experience for these children will be made possible.”

“Suites-N-Treats” will take place on the Club Level with the help of the Sounds’ suite holders, who were invited to decorate their suite so the children could experience a true Halloween-based trick-or-treat experience. The Sounds’ front office staff will also decorate select suites and dress up as part of the festivities.

NYPL Announces 2016 Scholarship Contest

AUBURN, NY – The Class-A Short-Season New York-Penn League and its member clubs are proud to announce that the league’s philanthropic arm, the NYPL Charitable Foundation, will once again award over $10,000 in scholarships this summer to deserving high school graduates from the league’s 14 markets.

Now in its eighth year, the 2016 NYPL Scholarship Contest is open to any graduating senior from a public or private high school within the league’s footprint. Any student who has been accepted at a two- or four-year college or university, vocational school, or technical education institution is eligible. Applicants will be judged based on academic performance, volunteer and extracurricular activities, and the impact their local NYPL club and Minor League Baseball have had on their lives.

The scholarship contest will consist of two stages – a local round and a league round. In the local stage, students will apply directly to their local NYPL team, with one applicant chosen by each of the 14 teams to advance to the league/final round. The 14 finalists will then be judged by league representatives. Three pplicants will be selected to receive the top prize of a $2,500 scholarship. All other finalists will receive a $250 book award.

“The New York-Penn League Charitable Foundation and our 14 member clubs are pleased to have the opportunity to assist outstanding high school seniors within our league’s footprint for the eighth consecutive season,” said Ben J. Hayes, President of the New York-Penn League. “This program will again recognize those seniors who not only meet and exceed traditional scholarship criteria, but demonstrate the positive community impact and lifelong memories fostered by their local NYPL clubs throughout the year.”

The deadline to submit applications to the nearest NYPL team is May 20, 2016. Each club’s winner, including the three $2,500 scholarship recipients, will be selected in mid-June.

The New York-Penn League and its 14 member clubs created the New York-Penn League Charitable Foundation, a 501(c) (3) charitable organization, in 2003. The mission of the Foundation is to provide focus and support for the collective and individual charitable and community efforts of the New York-Penn League, its Clubs, and their staff.

KeyBank and Lake Monsters team up to recognize United Way of Chittenden County

BURLINGTON, VT — The Vermont Lake Monsters, in partnership with KeyBank will be hosting 300 United Way of Chittenden County volunteers and partners July 23rd. The 7:05 PM game at Centennial Field will feature pre-game acknowledgement of this year’s annual campaign, in addition to featuring some of the United Way of Chittenden County’s partner agencies.

“Thank you to the Vermont Lake Monsters and KeyBank for hosting our volunteers and their families for a night out at the ballpark,” United Way Community Campaign Manager Reed Curry said. “United Way runs on the power of volunteers and we are excited to celebrate their important contributions and build momentum for our 2015 Community Campaign at one of Burlington’s best summer venues.”

In addition to the game day events that will include a first pitch and concourse tabling, the Vermont Lake Monsters will be wearing a special edition Home Jersey designed by the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington. ALL proceeds of an in game jersey auction will benefit the United Way of Chittenden County, made possible through the partnership with KeyBank.

“Building a thriving community is a collective effort, and we are proud to partner with the Vermont Lake Monsters to support a night out at the ballpark in celebrating the contributions of the volunteers of the United Way of Chittenden County,” said Market President Don Baker.

Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team To Play At Centennial Field August 1st

BURLINGTON, VT – Historic Centennial Field will once again play host to a truly magical event as the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team will play an exhibition against Vermont-based celebrities August 1st, 2015. Made up of Veterans and Active-Duty Soldiers and Marines who have lost a limb(s) in post 9/11 combat, the WWAST tours the country in hopes of raising awareness of the sacrifices of braves soldiers and to show that through extensive training and rehabilitation, that these Soldiers, and others like them, that life without a limb is limitless.

The August 1st event will include an exhibition game with former Major League Pitchers Bill “Spaceman” Lee and Len Whitehouse. Actor, producer, and writer Rusty “The Logger” Dewees, country music star Jamie Lee Thurston, and Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger are also among those scheduled to appear. This has been made possible through support from the Four Aces Family Foundation.

Game time is 6:05 PM with gates opening at Centennial Field at 5:00 PM. All tickets are $5 and will be available at select Jolley locations and at the Vermont Lake Monsters ticket office or by calling (802) 655-6611, starting July 6th. All ticket proceeds will benefit the mission of the WWAST, as well as to the creation of an annual WWAST Kids Camp for children amputees.

New England Federal Credit Union And Lake Monsters Team Up For CHAMP Sightings

BURLINGTON, VT — New England Federal Credit Union and the Vermont Lake Monsters will once again be teaming up this year to actively support the community by offering free CHAMP appearances (called “CHAMP Sightings”) to non-profit organizations and other programs that share their commitment to enhancing the well being of the local communities.

“Whether it is at the ballpark or out in the community, CHAMP stands for so many positive things,” said Nate Cloutier, Lake Monsters’ Executive Director – Sales & Marketing. “He creates smiles and memories, and it is such a joy to work with New England Federal Credit Union on bringing CHAMP in to the community to enhance these local events. To see CHAMP at awareness walks or at the hospital, and see the smile and hear the laughter is priceless.”

This partnership between New England Federal Credit Union and the Lake Monsters will give certain organizations and programs the opportunity to have CHAMP make an appearance at their event for no charge.

Organizations and programs interested in participating in the “CHAMP Sightings” program, and having CHAMP attend their event for free must submit a formal application that can be downloaded from CHAMP Sightings page on the CHAMP section of website. Please note that depending on the event location, travel costs may apply. Interested parties should submit their application as soon as possible, as appearances are limited.

“CHAMP makes events fun while helping to draw attention to worthwhile causes that are important to our community,” said Cindy Morgan, Senior Marketing Executive at NEFCU. “We’re delighted to support the Lake Monsters, and we encourage all non-profits and other programs that qualify to apply for a free CHAMP Sighting at their 2015 event.”

Five Guys Team Up With Lake Monsters For Annual “May Days” Fundraising Campaign

BURLINGTON, VT — The Vermont Lake Monsters are excited to announce Five Guys as a partner for their annual May Days fundraiser to benefit non-profits from across the state of Vermont. “Five Guys May Days” fundraiser will launch May 1st as a month-long program devoted to helping raise funds and awareness for state wide non-profits.

Support of local non-profits has demonstrated the strong commitment both the Lake Monsters and Five Guys have to the greater Burlington community. The goal of this program is not only to provide the opportunity for organizations to raise money, but also raise awareness for their programs while providing a chance for supporters to come together at the ballpark.

COTS is just one of the many local non-profits who has benefited from participating in Five Guys May Days and will continue the tradition this year. “COTS very much appreciates the support we receive from our local community, and the Lake Monsters fundraiser is a great example of how we can work together to raise awareness about homelessness in Vermont” said COTS Executive Director Rita Markley.

Participating non-profits will have the entire month of May to promote and sell $6 Lake Monsters tickets through a specific URL link designated to their organization for a specific game during the season. After the month of May is completed, the Lake Monsters will donate half of the proceeds back to the organization. Following the selling period, Five Guys will donate up to $500 to match the amount raised by the highest selling non-profit in the program. Organizations will then be recognized on field with a check presentation at a Lake Monsters game this season. This opportunity is an easy way to fundraiser for non-profits, simply by reaching out to your employees, supporters, volunteers, and sponsors with the URL link.
