SeaWolves Announce Week of Giving

The SeaWolves are pleased to announce the team’s first annual “Week of Giving” to support area non-profit organizations during the holiday season.

Each weekday from December 9-13, a local non-profit organization will receive 20 percent of merchandise purchases made at the SeaWolves Team Store at Jerry Uht Park and online at SeaWolves.com.

The SeaWolves will encourage the community to support these causes by rewarding the top daily merchandise spender with a special prize. The individual with the top merchandise dollar total each day during the “Week of Giving” will receive a SeaWolves VIP Experience, which includes four infield box seat tickets, a ceremonial first pitch and the opportunity to meet a SeaWolves player before a 2014 game at Jerry Uht Park.

“The SeaWolves’ Week of Giving is an opportunity to support five outstanding community organizations and spread some holiday cheer,” SeaWolves president Greg Coleman said. “We’d like to thank all of our community partners and SeaWolves fans for their support throughout the year.”

 

Second Harvest Food Bank:

The mission of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania is to distribute food to hungry people and eliminate the waste of food.

In 1982, the first year of operation, Second Harvest distributed 444,916 pounds of food to 40 agencies. During fiscal year 2012-13, Second Harvest distributed 11.4 million pounds of food to 285 member agencies and 135 distribution sites for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program for low-income seniors.

Twilight Wish:

The mission is to honor and enrich the lives of deserving seniors through wish granting celebrations that connect generations.

Twilight Wish honors and acknowledges seniors for all they have given to others by bringing comfort and joy into their lives through individual wish granting celebrations. Twilight Wish grants wishes to deserving elderly, age 68 and older, who earn less than 200% of poverty level annually, or who live in a nursing facility. By treating the elderly with compassion, we restore their dignity and bring them hope.

Barber National Institute:

We are “Making dreams come true.” We provide children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families the education, support and resources needed to be self reliant, independent and valued members of their community. In addition, we provide the professionals who serve them with world-class education and training.

The Epilepsy Project:

Our mission is to bring Epilepsy Awareness to the world through our events, fundraising, and confidence!

Based in Erie, Pennsylvania, The Epilepsy Project focuses its efforts in mid-size communities where people may not have easy access to information, medical facilities, or events. It’s essential to feel supported when living with a disease that is, at times, unpredictable, so our goal is to make it FUN while spreading the important message of seizure safety, frequency, and fundraising for a cure!

Autism Society of Northwest Pennsylvania:

The Autism Society – Northwestern Pennsylvania (ASA-NWPA) is a local chapter affiliated with the Autism Society of America (ASA), the nation’s leading grassroots autism organization, which exists to improve the lives of all affected by autism. ASA does this by increasing public awareness about the day-to-day issues faced by people on the spectrum, advocating for appropriate services for individuals across the lifespan, and providing the latest information regarding treatment, education, research and advocacy. RailRiders Searching for Military Members & Families to Honor

Moosic, Pa. – Veterans Day is a time of reflection, thanks and love for the brave men and women that defend our nation. The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) are no exception on this special day. Today, the team announced the formal return of its Military Recognition Program for the 2014 season that will pay tribute to those that serve in our nation’s armed forces and their loved ones in NEPA. The search is on for the special folks that will receive these recognitions.

Each 2014 home game will spotlight these local heroes with recognition on the video board at PNC Field, the opportunity to throw out a ceremonial first pitch, and four field reserved seats to enjoy the game. The team is actively searching for a title sponsor of the program that will all the more solidify PNC Field as NEPA’s community ballpark.

“On behalf of our entire organization, a huge thank you to all of our veterans,” said RailRiders president/GM Rob Crain. “We try to do what we can for our own here in NEPA, but this program truly stands out since it helps those that help us all on the ultimate level.”

Area veterans, active military and families thereof are encouraged to contact the team’s community relations department with their armed forces tale as the nightly honors are expected to go quickly. Scrappers Launch Healthy Kids Challenge

NILES, OH – The Mahoning Valley Scrappers have launched Scrappy’s Healthy Challenge, presented by the Eastwood Mall Complex with partners Humility of Mary Health Partners, M.V.P.B.A. Scrappers Backers and ComDoc, to encourage physically active and healthy lifestyles.

Scrappy’s Healthy Challenge follows the 5-2-1-0 message: 5 — or more servings of fruits and vegetables, 2 — hours or less recreational screen time, 1 — hour or more of physical activity, 0 — sugary drinks, more water and lowfat milk (adopted from Let’s Go! www.letsgo.org).

The Scrappers are working with local schools to participate in the program. For 21 Days, students log their choices into a journal. All of the students that complete Scrappy’s Healthy Challenge will receive a ticket to go to a Scrappers game during the 2013 season. At the game they will receive a special 5-2-1-0 Scrappy’s Healthy Challenge Completed T-Shirt and special recognition at the game.

Keys Host Toys for Tots Drive

Fans Who Bring in a New Toy will Receive 2014 Keys Tickets and Hats

With the holiday season upon us, the Frederick Keys have announced a partnership with Toys for Tots for a second consecutive season. The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children.

Members of the Frederick community can donate a toy at Harry Grove Stadium during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm. Those who donate will receive two tickets to a 2014 Frederick Keys home game along with two Keys hats.

The Toys for Tots drive will run until Saturday, December 14th, when the Keys host their annual holiday event in the Mattress Warehouse Club.

“We were extremely pleased by community support for our toy drive last year,” said Marketing & Sponsorship Manager, Bridget McCabe. “Helping provide a better holiday season for many local kids through the product of Keys Baseball is very uplifting and we are glad this is now an annual partnership.”

The Keys Holiday Event, held on December 14th from 10am-1pm, will feature pictures with Keyote Claus and discounts on merchandise. Fans who donate toys during the event will receive a special discount on the items that are for sale.

Community Love: 2013 Thus Far

Thousands of Hours, Over $200,000 Given Back to NEPA

Moosic, Pa. – It’s more than numbers. It’s more than hours or dollars. It’s human. It’s real. It’s one of life’s most paradoxical, yet overwhelming true truths. An intangible concept, an experience really, that resounds with a firmness greater than Montage Mountain herself. It is better to give than to receive. Year one of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) and the new PNC Field afforded the new-look franchise and the good folks of NEPA to get to know each other once more through more than just baseball. And the giving? Well, it sure felt good.

Below is a quick checklist of the highlight totals in 2013:

Front office staff hours volunteered: 890.5

Player hours volunteered: 202.5

Mascot appearances: 130

Donations: $24,044 (tickets/merchandise/autographed memorabilia)

Hurl the Pearl donation (Boys & Girls Club): $12,092

Allied Health Services donation: $16,000

Total donation including monetary value of volunteered hours from team/staff, all monetary donations and in-kind donations: $217,737

“The sum totals sound good, but what sticks with me are the individual moments,” said RailRiders president/GM Rob Crain. “I got more goosebumps from seeing the impact of the efforts spearheaded by our staff and community relations manager Rachel Mark than I’ve had at any other point in my life. It was a very good year.”

The Community Organization of the Night program made its debut this season. Each of the team’s 72 home games spotlighted a local non-profit/civic organization. That CON had the opportunity to spread its message to every guest through a pre-game on-field interview, a ceremonial first pitch, an on-air radio interview and a concourse table display.

The RailRiders’ Military Appreciation Program was implemented this season to show the team’s support of our nation’s active and retired military. The serviceperson and his/her family were honored. Activities included complimentary game tickets, a pre-game on-field interview and a ceremonial first pitch.

SWB’s patriotic pride continued with another new tip of the cap, Setting A Seat Aside. To honor men and women affiliated with our nation’s military whom could not be at PNC Field, one significant seat (section 13, row 15, seat one) will forever remain empty and unsold.

A standard from previous years got a big boost as the Adopt-A-Field Program upped the number of local fields renovated to four. Front office staff and grounds crew members combined to give the area little league/softball fields a big league facelift. Staffers spent the entire day at each park cutting the infield, rebuilding pitching mounds, fertilizing/mowing grass, cleaning dugouts and more. The fields were chosen through a contest on the team’s Facebook page with representatives of local leagues posting pictures of their field and describing its renovation needs. The four photos that received the most “likes” on Facebook were the lucky winners (Avoca/Dupont Little League; South Scranton Little League; Staback Park; Marvine Dutch Gap).

As the top affiliate of the New York Yankees, the RailRiders proudly played their part in the organization’s annual HOPE (Helping Others Persevere and Excel) Week effort. The week-long community outreach program’s purpose is to touch as many lives as possible in your area. Members of the RailRiders’ coaching staff, players and front office folks made their way throughout NEPA.

The week included a Children’s Miracle Network Day at the Ballpark on July 7. Twin boys who have overcome the worst of health adversities spent time on the field with players during batting practice, stopped by the pre-game clubhouse, threw out ceremonial first pitches and spent the game in the owner’s suite with friends and family. One day later, the RailRiders hosted a baseball game for the Lackawanna County Challenger Little League. LCCLL gives children with special needs the chance to participate in athletics. RailRiders coaches and players spent the entire game on the field, coaching and encouraging the boys and girls while helping them to bat, run and slide. A ballpark lunch followed. July 9 meant two surprise hospital visits to Moses Taylor and Geisinger in downtown Scranton. Patients interacted with the players while receiving giveaways, autographs and an overall fun time. The week concluded with players and front office staffers visiting the Boys & Girls Club of NEPA. The morning was spent playing baseball, billiards and computer games. The epic conclusion sported a dodgeball match between the RailRiders and the Boys & Girls club.

On Aug. 21, a tag-team food drive by the RailRiders and the Voluntary Action Center of NEPA sought out to stock as many food pantries in NEPA as possible. Fans received free game tickets in exchange for non-perishable food items. In addition to the food from fans, the RailRiders also presented the Voluntary Action Center with a check for $1,300 to assist with the fight against hunger in NEPA.

First Military Appreciation Day at Werner Park Ends Regular Season

Ticket and Team Store Discounts offered with Military ID, Pre-Game Swearing In Ceremony

OMAHA, Neb. – The final weekend of the 2013 season will be an exciting one for the Omaha Storm Chasers as the race for the American Conference North Division may come down to the final game of the season. That 12:05 p.m. game on Monday September 2 is not only important for a third straight division title but will also serve as the first ever Military Appreciation Day at Werner Park, presented by U.S. Bank.

More than 900 tickets have already been donated to local Military personnel by U.S. Bank and also through the season-long “Hat For Heroes” promotion at the Storm Front Team Store. In addition to donated tickets, the Storm Chasers will honor all the individuals that keep our country safe by offering any Military personnel a free McDonald’s Berm ticket by showing a valid Military ID.

Pre-Game on the field will feature the United States Air Force Delayed Entry Program swearing in ceremony, led by Lieutenant Colonel Steven E. Phillips. The ceremony will feature 20-40 Military members being sworn in, while Lieutenant Colonel Phillips will also throw out a first pitch for the game.

The first 1,000 fans through the gates of Werner Park will receive a special Camouflaged Apron courtesy of U.S. Bank, with gates opening at 10:45 a.m. In honor of Military Appreciation Day, the Storm Front Team Store will offer a 20% discount to any Military member that shows their valid Military ID on full-priced merchandise, and the 87 Storm Chasers who purchased “Hats For Heroes” will receive in-game recognition.

Ovations will feature a discounted food and drink menu for all fans in attendance. Patriotic music will be played throughout Werner Park and local Military branches will be honored on the video board to say thank you to those who make the ultimate sacrifice.

The Storm Chasers currently lead the Memphis Redbirds by one game in the American Conference North Division with six games left in the season. The final weekend will feature four games against the Round Rock Express, Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, after the team returns home from the series with the Iowa Cubs.

Donations Good for Naturals Game Ticket

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals have joined Arvest Bank’s effort to fight hunger in our area. Donate $5 or 10 nonperishable food items at a Naturals game Aug. 26-29, and you can be part of the team, too.

The Naturals ticket offer is a warm-up for Arvest Bank’s 1 Million Meals initiative, which officially begins Sept. 4, and aims to raise a million or more meals to fight hunger. All donations made at Arvest Ballpark will benefit the NWA Food Bank.

Considering $1 = 5 meals, you can make a big difference by donating $5 or 10 nonperishable food items. In return, you’ll receive a reserved ticket for that evening’s game. Come watch the Naturals play the Arkansas Travelers on Aug. 26, or the Tulsa Drillers Aug. 27-29.

Some of the most-needed food items, which can be dropped off at the Naturals team van near the ticket office, include:

• canned meat
• canned vegetables
• fruit cups
• macaroni & cheese
• boxed dinners
• cereal

In its third year, 1 Million Meals runs Sept. 4-Nov. 2 and challenges Arvest associates, customers and communities to help fight hunger in the more than 120 communities the bank serves. Last year, the initiative raised 1.38 million meals. This year’s effort benefits 53 organizations in the four states – Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma – Arvest serves.

Douglas Park FREE Baseball Clinic

The Elizabethton Twins will be conducting a free Youth Baseball Clinic on August 17, 10:30AM to 12:30PM at Douglas Park.

Douglas Park is located behind the Elizabethton City School System Administrative Offices at 804 South Watauga Avenue. Instruction in the fundamentals of baseball will take place along with lunch and an autograph session.

“We look forward to a great day at Douglas Park and hope to see many of our local youth at this event, said Mike Mains, Parks and Recreation Director.” “This is just another way our Minor League Baseball Franchise can give back to this community which is a win for our players, staff and fans alike.”

The camp will feature basic instruction in hitting, fielding and throwing. Participants will also have the opportunity to talk one on one with Elizabethton Twins players, will receive tickets to a future game and will have lunch with team members. Participants must be above seven years of age. This is a free event sponsored by the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department. For more information call 423-547-6441.

LAKEWOOD, NJ – The BlueClaws will host a School Supply Drive at their game on Friday, August 23rd to benefit the Salvation Army of Ocean County.

Fans are encouraged to drop off items at the New Jersey Natural Gas Information Booth during the game, which begins at 7:05 pm.

Anyone that donates will receive a voucher for two tickets to one of the four Labor Day weekend BlueClaws home games – August 30th – September 2nd (promotions here).

New Life Necessities Diaper Drive

Your donation of a package of diapers will gain you free admission to Power games all month long!

Life Necessities Diaper Bank, a program of CDOM, was established to eradicate diaper need in West Virginia. New Life Necessities provides diapers at no charge to agencies who distributes them to families in need.

“New Life Necessities Diaper Bank has distributed over 5,000 diapers to almost 300 families in just the last four months that we’ve been open,” says Erica Strother, Director of New Life Necessities. “Diaper need is a basic need for babies just like food, clothing and shelter, yet there is very little assistance. Both the parents and the children suffer emotionally and physically,” said Strother.

“We are excited to partner with Erica and the Diaper Bank for the remainder of our 2013 regular season home schedule,” says Jeremy Taylor, Assistant General Manger of the Power. “Since the opening of Appalachian Power Park in 2005, the West Virginia Power has, and always will be, a community driven organization and we are more than thrilled to be able to help with the tremendous need for diapers in this community.”

With every package of diapers donated at the West Virginia Power Box Office on Morris Street you will receive two free General Admission tickets to that night’s game or an upcoming 2013 regular season game of your choice. Your donations may be dropped off at the Box Office.

Woodbridge, VA-The Potomac Nationals are proud to partner with INOVA for a blood drive at Pfitzner Stadium on Monday, August 19th from 3:30pm to 8:00pm.

Fans who complete the donor screening process and donate blood will receive two grandstand tickets to the P-Nats game on Sunday, August 25th.

The Hickory Crawdads have announced their first ever Art at the Park event to take place August 13th-15th. All artists are invited to submit their best rendition of their favorite scenes from around the ballpark and have their work voted on by the fans over the three-game home stand.

The event will take place the third week in August as the ‘Dads play host to the Asheville Tourists for a three game series of 7pm games. Artists from around the area are encouraged to submit their original two-dimensional artwork depicting their favorite ballpark scene to the Crawdads Front Office by Monday, August 12th for entry into the competition. All submitted works will be displayed on the main concourse of Crawdads Stadium throughout the home stand for Crawdads fans to view and submit votes for the piece they believe should take home the grand prize. At the conclusion of the home stand, ballots will be counted and the artist whose piece gets the most votes will receive a FREE Luxury Suite for a ballgame.

In addition to the chance to win the grand prize, all participants will receive one free grandstand ticket good for any of the three games during the home stand. All fans and artists are welcome to participate as long as their submissions are within the guidelines. The fan-favorite voting contest will begin when the gates open on Tuesday, August 13th, and will remain open until the conclusion of the game on Thursday, August 15th. The winner will be announced on Friday, August 16th.

‘Donations Weekend’ Kicks Off at Dell Diamond

The Round Rock Express and Goodwill Industries of Central Texas have teamed up to present “Donations Weekend” at Dell Diamond starting Friday, July 26 and running through Monday, July 29, courtesy of Austin Goodwill.

Fans are encouraged to bring a clothing donation to the Railyard Team Store Friday-Monday to receive a “Be Our Guest” card, good for two Reserved tickets, and a coupon for 15% off your entire purchase from the Team Store!

Also, make a donation to the Goodwill store in Round Rock (150 W. Palm Valley Blvd) Saturday, July 27 from 11 a.m. to noon, to meet an Express player and Spike. Fans who make a donation will also receive a “Be Our Guest” card for their donation.

Dow Diamond and Michigan Blood to Host Blood Drive

Loons and Midland Center for the Arts partner for Blood Drive Challenge

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Great Lakes Loons have partnered with Midland Center for the Arts (MCFTA) to see who can donate more blood to Michigan Blood from July 22 through August 16. Donations can be made at Michigan Blood’s Dow Diamond facility and its MidMichigan Medical Center donation facility, along with a one-time blood drive at Midland Center for the Arts.

“We are ready for the blood drive challenge with Midland Center for the Arts,” said Loons President & General Manager Paul Barbeau. “I have already donated and I hope that other Loons employees and fans will as well. MI Blood and those in need of blood will be the real winners of this competition.”

Michigan Blood’s Dow Diamond donation center is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Its MidMichigan Medical Center donation facility is open Tuesdays from noon to 7 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Additionally, MCFTA will also host an on-site blood drive on Tuesday, August 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

When signing in, donors must mention they are donating for the Great Lakes Loons or Midland Center for the Arts. Each participating donor will be included in a drawing to win a prize package of Loons and MCFTA items, including four Loons vouchers, a first pitch opportunity, four tickets to see “Dracula: the Musical” on October 5, an autographed poster from the cast, four drink vouchers for the Saints & Sinners Lounge, and a private dinner for four at Dow Diamond prior to the show.

Results of the contest will be announced at Dow Diamond during MCFTA’ s Salute to the Arts Night on August 20, with the President of the organization that tallies less donors participating in an on-field contest.
