SOUTH BEND, IN – The South Bend Cubs are thrilled to continue to partner with Jordan Automotive for another Teacher Appreciation Night at Four Winds Field on Wednesday, June 8 for a 7:05 p.m. ballgame that includes post-game fireworks.

“We love this night every year,” said South Bend Cubs President Joe Hart. “It provides us a chance to honor and show our gratitude for all the hard work teachers and educators in the area do for our kids.”

“Teachers deserve to celebrate their good work and we love being able to be a part of that celebration,” said Robert Hayden, Executive Manager of Jordan Automotive Group. “Without teachers’ involvement and support, the Food 4 Kids program would not be as successful, and for that and all they do we truly appreciate teachers.”

In order to give back for all the strenuous work done by teachers within the Michiana region, Jordan Automotive is offering up two complimentary tickets and two Four Winds Field food vouchers to teachers and administrators to catch the South Bend Cubs take on the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Both food vouchers are good for one hot dog, a bag of chips, and a fountain soda. 600 food vouchers will be available.

All teachers at Four Winds Field will be honored by the South Bend Cubs in the middle of the third inning when they will be asked to stand and be recognized by everyone else in attendance.

Teachers and administrators can pick up their two complimentary tickets by showing their school ID at the Four Winds Field box office. The box office is open during the week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on weekend game days (Saturday 12 p.m. until the 7th inning and Sunday 10 a.m. until the 7th inning).

Fans attending the game will also be treated to a special Wednesday night post-game fireworks show.

The South Bend Cubs and Jordan Automotive look forward to honoring all teachers from Michiana for their hard work and dedication with a fun night of baseball at Four Winds Field.

NATURALS HOST YOUTH BASEBALL CLINIC AT ARVEST BALLPARK ON SATURDAY, MAY 14

SPRINGDALE, Ark. – The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are excited to partner with D-BAT NW Arkansas to announce the return of the Naturals FREE Youth Baseball Clinic that will take place at Arvest Ballpark from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14 in advance of that night’s 6:05 p.m. game against the Wichita Wind Surge, the Double-A Minnesota Twins.

The Naturals Youth Baseball Clinic, which is presented by D-BAT NW Arkansas is open to children ages 6-12 and will cover instruction of key baseball fundamentals, including hitting, pitching, outfield, infield, throwing, and base running. All kids that register will receive a complimentary ticket to that night’s game that features a post-game Fireworks show.

Registered clinic participants will be broken up into six different groups and they will get to experience six different 10-minute stations located throughout the playing field of Arvest Ballpark. Instruction at certain stations of the clinic will be given by select Naturals players.

There is a registration form titled Kids Clinic Registration Form – May 14 located on the Naturals website, nwanaturals.com, under the SCHEDULE & PROMOTIONS tab that interested parents can fill out to register their son or daughter for the clinic. The deadline to register for the event is Wednesday, May 11 but participants are encouraged to sign up quickly, as previous events have filled to capacity prior to the deadline. Check-in begins at Arvest Ballpark at 2:00pm on the day of the event so we ask that you arrive early as participation is limited to the first 150 children. Participants are asked to only bring their glove and wear proper baseball attire.

By popular demand, “Seventh Inning Stretch” Ballpark Yoga will return to Blue Wahoos Stadium throughout the summer, with four new dates in May and June announced today by the Blue Wahoos.

“After our first Ballpark Yoga session in April, we heard from so many fans clamoring for more, so we’re very excited to add four new dates this summer,” Blue Wahoos events manager Shannon Reeves said. “We’re very grateful to our friends at Disko Lemonade for leading these sessions and making them fun for all ages and experience levels.”

Ballpark Yoga will be offered in May on Sunday, May 1st and Sunday, May 22nd and in June on Sunday, June 12 and Sunday, June 26. All sessions will begin at 9:00 AM – late enough to allow fans to sleep in but early enough to not miss brunch downtown afterwards – and will be led by expert instructors from Disko Lemonade Yoga Studio.

Tickets to each session are available at BlueWahoos.com for $12. Yoga is held in centerfield at Blue Wahoos Stadium, offering attendees exclusive access to the field at the stadium, and participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, blanket, or towel to exercise on.

BlueClaws Collecting Diapers at May 5th Game

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – The BlueClaws are partnering with Child Care Resources on a Diaper Drive at the 6:35 pm game on Thursday, May 5th.

Fans can drop off diapers at the ballpark that night at a trailer along the third base concourse behind Section 110. The diapers will then be distributed throughout the Jersey Shore by Child Care Resources.

“There is indeed a strong need for diapers around the Jersey Shore and we’re happy to help collect diapers and raise awareness for the need,” said Jim McNamara, executive director of BlueClaws Charities. “We’re fortunate enough to work with a great organization in Child Care Resources and help them with their year-round efforts.”

Diaper need is the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers, to remain clean, dry, and healthy. Unlike other basic needs such as food and heat, there are no government ‘safety net’ programs that help families obtain diapers. Kim Perrelli, Executive Director of Child Care Resources explains that providing diapers to a family in need can lead to outcomes like “an increase in parental happiness and a reduction in stress. It also helps with the ability to spend income on other basic needs.”

MiLB and the American Cancer Society to bring back annual cancer fighting initiative

Minor League Baseball™ (MiLB™) today announced a multi-year renewal of its long-time partnership with the American Cancer Society (ACS). The renewal will see a reprisal of the “Hope At Bat” program – a fundraising and awareness campaign in support of cancer research – for the first time since the 2019 season. The initiative will launch in June in support of National Cancer Survivors Month and continue through the remainder of the 2022 season in MiLB ballparks across the country.

“MiLB constantly strives to work with great partners and provide new opportunities to make a positive impact in our communities,” said Kurt Hunzeker, MLB’s Vice President of Minor League Business Operations. “Our long-standing partnership with American Cancer Society certainly has allowed us to help fight cancer nationwide by raising awareness and charitable donations for cancer research, and we are excited to start our next chapter together this season.”

As an Official Charity Partner of Minor League Baseball, ACS will have cancer survivors and caregivers participate in ceremonial first pitch events and fans and players will have the opportunity to create “I Go To Bat For….” cards as part of in-game tributes to those who are currently battling, or have previously battled cancer. All teams will be auctioning off two team autographed purple bats featuring the Hope At Bat logo with the proceeds from one bat going to a local cancer fighting organization and the other raising funds for ACS’ national campaign.

MiLB teams will hold a fundraiser on behalf of ACS to assist in their battle against cancer with local youth baseball and softball teams playing a part in the fundraising efforts. Any youth team that raises over $1,000 for ACS in the month of June will receive a special ballpark trip and experience with their local MiLB team.

Future years of the program will feature players wearing purple-themed attire during games to help honor and celebrate those who have fought cancer or are currently battling cancer, as well as a digital cancer assessment tool that fans can use to understand their cancer risk.

“We are very excited about working with MiLB, their teams and their local communities all across the country,” said Sheri Barros, Vice President of Sports Alliances for the American Cancer Society. “Hope at Bat is awareness with action, raising much needed funds and providing important information to the public about cancer risk. Christ Church and St. Joe's Take Center Stage Thursday at Fluor Field

Two Upstate high school baseball programs will take center stage Thursday night at Fluor Field, as the Christ Church Cavaliers take on the St. Joe’s Knights. This will be the final high school game of the year at Fluor Field. First pitch between the Cavaliers and Knights is set for 6 PM.

The Main Street Gate at Fluor Field will open at 5 PM. Due to the construction of the all-new District 356 entertainment area, Field Street (first base side of the ballpark) will be closed off to pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Concession stands will be open at Fluor Field, and outside food and beverage is prohibited. In conjunction with SCHSL rules, alcohol will not be sold during Thursday’s game at Fluor Field.

Hot Rods Chosen to Receive Truist Spirit of Community Award

*Bowling Green, Kentucky *– On Sunday, the Volunteers in Action executive committee recognized the Bowling Green Hot Rods as their 2022 Truist Spirit of Community Award winner. The Hot Rods join other local businesses and organizations that have won the award including Tony Rose, Crocker Law Firm, Houchens Industries, Chick-Fil-A, and American Legion – Post 23.

Eric C. Leach, Hot Rods General Manager and COO, and Kyle Wolz, Assistant General Manager, received the award at the Warren County Public Library on behalf of the Hot Rods organization on Sunday. The team has been involved in various community initiatives since its start in 2009. The Hot Rods have volunteered and partnered with local organizations like Boyz to Men, the Stuff the Bus Foundation, Kids on the Block, Norton Children’s Hospital, Down Syndrome of Southern Kentucky, Norton Children’s Hospital, and numerous other charitable organizations.

Most recently, the Hot Rods jumped in to aid the community after the devastating tornados that laid waste to Bowling Green and the surrounding areas. The front office assisted in cleaning up from the storm’s damage while also spearheading a charity auction featuring items from all over the country that were donated by various sports teams, colleges, and organizations. On April 10, the team also had #BGStrong day where the Hot Rods wore special jerseys on the field which were auctioned off following the game. All of the proceeds went to continued tornado relief efforts in the area.

“The community of Bowling Green has given us so much since we opened our gates in 2009,” Leach said. “We’ve been able to develop a beautiful ballpark downtown thanks to this amazing city and all the people in it. We’re incredibly honored and humbled to receive this award. It’s a testament to the hard work everyone at our organization has done and continues to do, to make sure we’re always trying our absolute best to be an active member of the community.”

The Hot Rods have also taken on various causes at Bowling Green Ballpark during the season, including hosting an annual Easter Egg Hunt, hosting a community organization of the night at each game, and introducing the Bolidos de Bowling Green alternate identity to celebrate Hispanic heritage in the community.

The Hot Rods proudly accept the 2022 Truist Spirit of the Community award and can’t wait to continue their partnership and work with the South Central Kentucky community!

Spokane, WASH. – In 2019, the Spokane Indians expanded sustainability efforts with the announcement of the Zero Waste campaign and the stated goal of achieving Zero Waste Facility status at Avista Stadium. In 2021, Spokane County Regional Solid Waste joined the campaign, but the overall objective remained the same: to be an industry leader in sustainability in Minor League Baseball. In addition to waste reduction efforts, the Spokane Indians have identified energy and water initiatives as a way to round out the environmental strategy.

WASTE

Over 60 Zero Waste stations with directive signage have been installed throughout the stadium to help fans get their waste into the proper stream – Landfill, Compost, or Recycling. To educate and further engage fans, there are nightly PA announcements, radio spots, and several promotional elements tied to the zero waste efforts including a recycle-focused between inning promotion and Kids Zone games. In addition, there are dedicated waste reduction staff members called the

Green Team: One of the duties of this group is running the in-house sorting area which is located behind the right field bench seats. Sorting occurs during and after every home game in the “Compost Corner”. You will also see the Green Team wearing their Spokane County Regional Solid Waste branded shirts during the game on the inner concourse keeping the stadium clean, educating fans, and answering questions. During the 2021 season the diversion rate (recycling and compost waste that doesn’t go to a landfill) at Avista Stadium was 58%. In 2022 the Indians are looking to build on this success, switching several concession items to compostable containers and improving sorting practices.

ENERGY

The Spokane Indians have been conscious of energy usage since 2001 when game times were moved to 6:30 PM, taking advantage of natural light and reducing energy consumption. During the 2022 season Saturday games in April and May will start at 5:09 PM and all Sunday games (with the exception of the season finale) will start at 1:05 PM.

Solar panels were installed on the administrative building in 2013, and they have been providing power to the grid for over eight years now. In addition, the Spokane Indians participate in Avista Utilities programs centered around carob footprint reduction and investment in solar and other renewables. Most notably, the Spokane Indians have been a part of the Avista “My Clean Energy” program since 2010. A program that provides an avenue for customers to support renewable energy projects and offset their carbon footprint. To date, the Spokane Indians have contributed to an offset equivalent of 94.4 metric tons of CO per year.

The Spokane Indians are committed to working with Avista on improving the energy efficiency of Avista Stadium.

WATER

In 2017, the Spokane Indians Baseball team, together with the Spokane Tribe of Indians and City of Spokane introduced the Redband Rally Campaign in honor of Spokane’s signature fish, the native Redband Trout. This campaign is designed to bring awareness to the Redband trout’s habitat in the Spokane River while rallying the community to protect and keep the river clean.

To create a visible presence and to honor the native Redband trout, the baseball team introduced a new logo that is featured on apparel, signage, headbands, and artwork. In addition to in-stadium promotions, the Spokane Indians established the Redband Rally Fund to financially support local and regional projects that further the campaign’s mission. To date the fund has raised nearly $40,000 and helped to support several projects that improve Redband habitat and the health of the Spokane River.

Hope Choice is a ministry-based organization that offers services for individuals and families who are facing everyday struggles and cultural pressures. The Mahoning Valley Scrappers are excited to unveil the fourth in a series of five specialty jersey nights during the 2022 season. The Scrappers have partnered with the Fairhaven Foundation and Trumbull County Board of DD to create a specialty jersey that the Scrappers players will wear for Developmental DisABILITIES Awareness Night on Friday, June 24th against the Williamsport Crosscutters. The jersey design was inspired by the artwork of three individuals served by the Trumbull County Board of DD. Artists will be recognized at the June 24th Scrappers game. Game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off in person at the game and also online at mvscrappers.com and LiveSource. Jersey proceeds will benefit the Fairhaven Foundation.

Major Composting Effort Highlights Cannon Ballers Earth Day Initiatives

 (KANNAPOLIS, N.C.) – Expanding the team’s commitment to making Atrium Health Ballpark one of the “greenest” venues in Minor League Baseball, the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers have announced new composting efforts aimed at reducing gameday waste.

During each Cannon Ballers home game, fans will now see green composting receptacles located throughout the ballpark concourse. Although locations for trash and recycle still exist, the green bins provide an opportunity for fans to dispose of compostable items which will transform into nutrient-rich soil within a few months. Since their inaugural season, the team had already taken strides to ensure all food waste from kitchen preparations were properly composted.

Concessions at sporting events traditionally create massive amounts of waste each year. As a result, the Cannon Ballers set out to focus their efforts on utilizing more environmentally friendly products in all concession and food service areas. Partnering with Colorado-based Eco-Products, the team has migrated the majority of their food packaging to new items made out of compostable materials. Such items include food containers, beer and soda cups, straws and lids, utensils, napkins, and plastic bags. Along with any leftover food, all of these items can be diverted from landfills and redirected to composting facilities.

“We have been working diligently with all of our vendors to utilize as many compostable products as possible,” said Chris Beasley, Director of Food & Beverage at Atrium Health Ballpark. “Team leadership is deeply committed to a sustainable future and I am confident that our efforts will lead to long term impacts.”

Another key contributor to the Cannon Ballers initiative is locally based Crown Town Compost. Once items are properly placed in the composting receptacles, they are delivered to Crown Town’s Charlotte location for sorting and then redirected to their composting facility that creates soils, mulches, and other landscaping materials from the compost.

Over the course of the season, the team will be educating fans and building awareness on the impact of composting and why it is important for the environment. “Our goal is to educate the community while making it fun at the same time,” remarked Cannon Ballers General Manager Matt Millward. “We will be creating videos with our players that will be shown each night, as well as doing some interactive in-game promotions that bring awareness to what items are compostable.”

In addition to waste diversion, LED field lights and motion sensor lighting assist with energy conservation at Atrium Health Ballpark. The Cannon Ballers also have plans to further reduce their carbon footprint by focusing on strategies aimed at water conservation.

 

Segra Stadium To Host Inaugural ‘Jackie Robinson Showcase’

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Fayetteville Woodpeckers *will host an inaugural “Jackie Robinson Showcase” on Thursday, May 5th at *Segra Stadium. The showcase will feature three high school baseball teams, including E.E. Smith, Westover and 71st High School. Game times are set for 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The showcase aligns with Minor League Baseball’s new initiative, “The Nine.” Launched in 2022, the initiative is a Black-community focused outreach platform specifically designed to honor and celebrate the historic impact numerous Black baseball pioneers made on the sport, provide new opportunities for youth baseball and softball participation, further diversify the business of baseball.

Named for the number Jackie Robinson wore during his only season playing in MiLB with the Triple-A Montreal Royals in 1946, The Nine will connect MiLB teams’ existing, Black-community focused development efforts with new national programming and future special events in a coordinated and centralized campaign. The new inclusion initiative follows MiLB’s Copa de la Diversión — the Latino fan engagement platform introduced in 2017 that included 76 MiLB teams in 2021.

GRAND CHUTE, WI – The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers will host a Career in Sports Night in the Fox Communities Credit Union Fox Club for fans looking to learn about job opportunities and receive tips and information on starting a career in sports on Thursday, May 5. The event will feature representatives from the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Brewers, and more with a panel discussion and a networking/career fair prior to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers game against the Fort Wayne TinCaps that night.

Fans interested in attending the Career in Sports events that night may order through this link using the promo code ‘sports’ and receive a box seat ticket to the game and admission to the panel discussion, the networking fair, and a tour of the stadium. Order prior to May 1 and the cost is just $15 per ticket. Any order after May first is $20 per ticket.

Dragons to Recognize “Hometown Heroes” Honoree During Game on April 22

Dayton, Ohio — The Dayton Dragons will recognize the Miami Valley Young Marines as a “Hometown Heroes” honoree during a special inning break of the Dragons game on Friday, April 22 against the West Michigan Whitecaps at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District. The game will start at 7:05p.m.

The Dayton Dragons shine the spotlight on the military, past and present, through the Hometown Heroes program. This program hosts military families at every Dragons game, recognizing outstanding military organizations and individuals.

Young Marines is a national non-profit education and service program for boys and girls, ages eight through high school. The organization promotes mental, moral, and physical development of its members, upholding the Marine Corps’ core values, as well as the Young Marines’ core values of leadership, discipline, and teamwork.

The Miami Valley unit participates year-round in community projects and events that focus on character building and leadership. Their mission is to nurture and develop its members into responsible citizens who enjoy and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

One of their major initiatives is called “Drill Heroes,” a drill competition held to raise money to complete the Miami Valley Veterans Museum. With multiple age-based competitions, this event brings friends, families, co-workers, and other members of the community together to compete in the largest knockout drill competition ever assembled.

Furthermore, the unit has partnered with Wreaths Across America to lay remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country’s heroes at the Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. This local unit has also been awarded the Fulcrum Shield Award for excellence in youth anti-drug programs from the Department of Defense twice – a distinction that no other unit has achieved.
