66ers Honored with California League’s Award for Community Service

San Bernardino, CA – On Friday the California League announced the 2016 Front Office Awards and named the Inland Empire 66ers the winner of the Excellence in Community Service Award. The award, which was voted on by the other organizations in the California League, was given to the 66ers due to their outstanding and on-going commitment to charitable service, support and leadership within the local community.

The Sixers received high praise from the league for their efforts and commitment to the community following the tragic events on December 2nd. A day after the incident, thousands came to San Manuel Stadium to attend a candlelight and prayer vigil. Victim’s families and friends, civic leaders and the community at large started healing the healing process together. On this night “SB Strong” came into existence and an organic fundraising opportunity happened after multiple attendees asked where they could buy tee shirts with the SB Strong logo on them. The fundraiser was a great success as over 2,000 shirts were purchased with 100% of the proceeds heading to the San Bernardino United Relief Fund. Following the vigil the club would go on to host a luncheon for the first responders, a SB Strong Charity Picnic and Blood Drive and the team’s SB Strong Night Game. During this game the Sixers and the visiting San Jose Giants wore specialty SB Strong jerseys that went up for auction to raise funds for the cause. In total, $74,115.26 was raised for the victims and their families through events held at San Manuel Stadium.

The 66ers continued their excellence in community service by closely working with local schools in several ways. The team’s reading program, which provided tickets for children and their families for reading, saw an increase in participation by over 30%. In addition, the club introduced the Breakfast with a Book Program in which students were rewarded for their academic efforts by receiving breakfast and a new book courtesy of the club. The commitment to the area didn’t stop there as the 66ers worked with over 200 local partners that had an impact of over $400,000 in donations during the 2016 Season.

About the Inland Empire 66ers

The Inland Empire 66ers are the California League Affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels and play their home games at San Manuel Stadium. The club is one of eight Elmore Sports Group owned franchises and one the six Minor League Baseball clubs in the group. Other Elmore Sports Group baseball franchises include the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Pacific Coast League), The San Antonio Missions (Texas League), Lynchburg Hillcats (Carolina League), Eugene Emeralds (Northwest League), and the Idaho Fall Chukars (Pioneer League). The 66ers franchise will play their 30th season in San Bernardino during the 2017 season which starts on Thursday, April 6th.

PawSox Fans Donate Record 71 Pints in Inaugural 9/11 Blood Drive

On the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, members of the PawSox community set a club record by donating 71 units of blood for the Rhode Island Blood Center at McCoy Stadium. PawSox blood drives in past years garnered less than a dozen units. Yesterday’s Day of Remembrance Blood Drive was the first on this date in PawSox history.

In previous years, a blood mobile visited McCoy Stadium before a game. An average of five-to-seven fans participated. Yesterday’s total, more than 10 times more, far exceeded the expectations of the Rhode Island Blood Center.

“To see a sports franchise so committed to the well-being of its community is a real source of pride for Rhode Island,” said Eric St. Peter, Account Manager/Public Relations Coordinator at the Rhode Island Blood Center. “We should be proud to have such a great club with such great fans who understand the importance of life-saving blood donations here in our state.”

“We are pleased that the PawSox could play such a meaningful role on such a special day of remembrance,” said PawSox President Dr. Charles A. Steinberg, who was instrumental in the creation of the Boston Red Sox’ Annual Blood Drive that has taken place at Fenway Park each September 11 since 2002. “This inspiring show of support is a tribute to the people of Pawtucket, who demonstrated their heart in record numbers.”

The PawSox and the Rhode Island Blood Center intend to hold their Second Annual Day of Remembrance Blood Drive on September 11, 2017.

BLOOD ASSURANCE AND ROME BRAVES PARTNER TO BRING A LIFESAVING CAUSE TO HOME PLATE

– With baseball season under full swing, non-profit regional blood center Blood Assurance is partnering with the Rome Braves to host a blood drive on Friday, May 13, from noon until 6 p.m. at the team’s stadium located at 755 Braves Blvd. All community members who make a blood donation will receive an “American Blood Donor” t-shirt, and the first 25 donors will receive a complimentary general admission ticket to any Rome Braves game this season.

“Donors are pivotal to our mission, saving three lives with just one blood donation,” said Mindy Quinn, marketing manager for Blood Assurance. “With that in mind, every donation truly has a revolutionary impact, and we encourage those who are able to donate to please come out to our Rome Braves blood drive and be the force that might save your neighbor’s life.”

Blood Assurance believes in giving back to the communities in which it serves. Blood donations stay local, but, when local supplies are insufficient to meet needs, the organization has a Blood Assurance network of 15 regional donation centers and 13 mobile centers available to help.

“We could think of no better way to give back to the Rome community than by partnering with Blood Assurance and joining in their mission to literally save lives across the region,” said Michael Dunn, general manager for the Rome Braves. “We know this mission will speak to the hearts of many in our area, and we hope you all take just half an hour to be the difference in someone’s life.”

While donors are not required to make appointments, they are encouraged to easily book a time slot at www.bloodassurance.org/romebraves. To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. BlueClaws, CJBC Blood Drive on May 9th

LAKEWOOD, NJ – The BlueClaws and Central Jersey Blood Center will partner on a Blood Drive on Saturday, May 9th that runs from 7 am – 2 pm.

The drive will take place in the BlueClaws Executive Conference Center, and each donor will receive a pair of tickets to a future BlueClaws game.

The BlueClaws and Central Jersey Blood Center encourage all fans to donate, as this is the time of the year when donations are in the greatest need.

Don’t Forget: Please eat before donating. All equipment used during the procedure is sterile and disposable. Donors must be healthy, be at least 16 years of age and weigh at least 120 pounds. Donors must present signature ID.

May 9th is also Bark in the Park, where fans can bring their dogs to the 4:05 pm game. There is a pre-game festival that starts at 1:30 pm and includes vendors, games, a pet adoption showcase, and more. Bark in the Park is presented by 100.1 WJRZ and 95.9 WRAT.

Blood Donors Score Naturals Tickets: May 1 – May 15

April 27, 2015-Each Arkansas Blood Institute (ABI) donor May 1 through 15, will score two premium tickets to a Northwest Arkansas Naturals baseball game. Anyone 16 years and older* is urged to come to the ABI donor center at 5300 S. U St., Fort Smith, or find an area blood drive listed on arkbi.org. Vouchers for Monday through Thursday evening games in May will be awarded to donors. Each can be redeemed at the Arvest Ballpark box office for two seats behind the dugout.

“Being an active community partner is extremely important to our organization, and this furthers that initiative for us,” said Naturals General Manager Justin Cole.

A ‘hero’ T-shirt also awaits each donor. If preferred, a donor can forgo the T-shirt to support Global Blood Fund (GBF). For each donor who chooses this option, a contribution to GBF will be made by Arkansas Blood Institute. GBF is a nonprofit that provides blood center technology and supplies to struggling blood centers around the world, so they can meet local needs through voluntary blood donation.

Donors with Arkansas Blood Institute exclusively provide blood needed by all patients in River Valley hospitals and some 15 other medical facilities in the region.

Appointments to donate are not required but can be made at 877-340-8777 or arkbi.org.

* 16 year olds must weigh at least 125 and provide signed parental permission; 17 year olds must weigh at least 125 pounds; 18+ year olds must weigh at least 110 pounds

SAGINAW, Mich. – The nation’s first blood donation center inside a sports stadium opened in April 2012 and three years later, 10,000 donors have walked through its doors.

The Dow Diamond Donor Center is the result of a partnership between The Dow Chemical Company, the Michigan Baseball Foundation, the Great Lakes Loons baseball franchise, and Michigan Blood. Thanks to a generous donation from The Dow Chemical Company to support renovations, the Dow Diamond Donor Center replaced a long-time location at Dow.

“The Dow Diamond Donor Center is a continuation of the rich history of blood donation in Midland. It’s an honor for Michigan Blood to be a part of this legacy,” said Bill Rietscha, CEO and president of Michigan Blood. “We are pleased to have a center right in the heart of the Great Lakes Bay Region that offers donors another opportunity to help support the needs of our partner hospitals throughout Michigan.”

Todd Sloggett of Midland and an employee of The Dow Chemical Company was the 10,000th person through the doors of the Michigan Blood donation center at Dow Diamond.

“Donating blood allows others to get back to good health. My daughter had to get several pints of blood last year for a surgery. Now my son is donating at Dow High School as a junior which really makes me proud of him and the other students that are starting this process young in life,” said Sloggett who has donated over 6 gallons of blood.

In recognition of the 10,000th donor and three years of operations at Dow Diamond, Michigan Blood will present representatives of The Dow Chemical Company, Michigan Baseball Foundation, and the Great Lakes Loons with its Ruby Award, which recognizes people or organizations that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to saving lives of patients in Michigan hospitals.

“We are very grateful for the ongoing and generous support of these fine organizations,” said Carleen Crawford, Director of Community Relations and Marketing for Michigan Blood. “They, along with hero donors like Todd, help Michigan Blood ensure that our partner hospitals and their patients have this precious blood resource when needed. The MB Ruby Award is our way of recognizing this valuable contribution.”

Besides the Dow Diamond Donor Center, Michigan Blood collects blood donations at other donation centers in the Great Lakes Bay Region including one at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland. Michigan Blood is the exclusive provider to MidMichigan Health, Covenant HealthCare, and St. Mary’s of Michigan, as well as over 40 other hospitals throughout the state.

Any healthy person 17 or older (or 16 with parental consent) who weighs at least 110 pounds may be eligible to give blood every 56 days. Blood donors should bring photo ID (or two forms of non-photo ID). Appointments are preferred. Individuals can schedule appointments by visiting www.miblood.org or calling 1-866-MIBLOOD (642-5663).

Barons, FOX6 WBRC & Life South Host Blood Drive Feb. 13 at Regions Field

Birmingham-BaronsThe Birmingham Barons, along with FOX6 WBRC and Life South Community Blood Centers, are hosting a community blood drive Friday, February 13 at Regions Field.

“Being an active Birmingham community partner is extremely important to our organization, and this blood drive is another event in which we want to continue our commitment,” Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson said.  “This past December we hosted a coat drive in which the great folks in this community supported, and we hope that we receive that same support with this blood drive. It is an honor to work with FOX6 and Life South. We hope to promote the importance of blood donation, and we hope to see a lot of donors at Regions Field who want to impact the lives of those in need of a transfusion.”

Life-South-Community-Blood-CentersThe drive is located in the Schaeffer Eye Center Club Lounge, hosted on the second floor at Regions Field, and is set to run from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. All participants will receive a drawstring backpack, courtesy of Life South.

BlueClaws Charities Makes Mark Through Community Grant Program

Lakewood-BlueClaws-LogoBlueClaws Charities has completed its 6th annual grant process. After analyzing the applications, BlueClaws Charities handed out grants to 34 Community Partner organizations in Monmouth & Ocean Counties.

BlueClaws Charities, a registered 501c3 organization, raises money at all 70 BlueClaws home games. A 50/50 raffle, special jersey auctions, and miscellaneous programs are used to raise money during games. The annual “Phillies Winter Banquet,” “ALS Celebrity Waiter Event,” “Bowling With the BlueClaws,” and the “BlueClaws Charities Nine & Dine Golf Outing” are additional fundraising initiatives conducted by BlueClaws Charities.

Each organization, also 501c3s, becomes eligible for a grant through a season-long partnership with the BlueClaws.

“This grant program is the culmination of the BlueClaws Charities year and we are very grateful to everyone that supports the organization in any way,” said BlueClaws Charities Executive Director Jim DeAngelis. “Without the support of the fans and donors, we would not be able to aid our magnificent Community Partner organizations.”

The following non-profit organizations received a cash grant from BlueClaws Charities (alphabetical order): ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Red Cross (Jersey Coast Chapter), Ashley Lauren Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County, Caregivers Volunteers of Central Jersey, Central Jersey Blood Center, David’s Dream and Believe Cancer Foundation, Enable Inc., Exit 82 Theatre Company, Family Options Adoptions, Family Resource Associates, First Tee of Monmouth & Ocean Counties, Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore, Go 4 the Goal, LADACIN Network, Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski Memorial Fund, Monmouth County SPCA, Mya Lin Terry Foundation, NJ TEARS, Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity, Ocean County Shriners Club, Ocean County YMCA, Ocean’s Harbor House, Raising Hope for Others, RJM Sports Group, Saint Vincent DePaul Society of Ocean County, Salvation Army of Ocean County, Susan G. Komen For the Cure of Central & South Jersey, Tom Giannattasio Jr. Memorial Fund, United Way of Monmouth County, United Way of Ocean County.

All Community Partners that completed the grant application were rewarded with a grant. Each partner was asked to describe the program within their organization that would benefit from the grant, with the requirement that the grant be allocated to Ocean or Monmouth County.

BlueClaws Charities, in addition to the grant program, supports hundreds of non-profit organizations with gift package donations, golf outing hole-in-one sponsorships, and specialty organizations such as OCEAN, Inc., a federal program that assists the less fortunate in the community. The “Tickets for Kids Program,” another BlueClaws Charities initiative, donates over 2,000 tickets to underserved youths in Lakewood and elsewhere in Ocean County.

Community Partners raise money through a BlueClaws fundraiser outing and have the opportunity to volunteer in the FirstEnergy Park concession stands to raise additional funds. The Lakewood BlueClaws are the Jersey Shore’s top stop for affordable, family entertainment. They have led the South Atlantic League and New Jersey in attendance in each year of their existence. 2015 will be their historic 15th season of family fun.

Richmond-Flying-SquirrelsThe Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, are pleased to announce that the organization has been nominated by the Eastern League of Professional Baseball Clubs for the 2014 John Henry Moss Community Service Award. The league nominates just one team for the award, presented annually by Minor League Baseball.

The John Henry Moss Community Service Award is bestowed upon a club that demonstrates an outstanding, on-going commitment to charitable service, support and leadership within their local community and within the baseball industry.

Community impact has been a foundational focal point for the Squirrels since their inception in 2010. The Squirrels’ nomination comes following a season in which they continued to expand many of their community aims. That included the launch of the Squirrels’ new non-profit arm, Flying Squirrels Charities, created with the goal of growing opportunities for local children. The first major fundraising campaign for Flying Squirrels Charities was “Smooch-a-Pig,” which included the involvement of 10 local celebrities and benefitted “Operation Renovation.” The campaign, which endeavored to rebuild 12 little league fields for the Richmond City Department of Parks & Recreation, raised over $60,000.

“There are many awards that the Squirrels as an organization would be delighted to receive,” said Flying Squirrels’ Vice President & COO Todd “Parney” Parnell. “However, this nomination is of particular significance to us. Community service is the bedrock of the Squirrels’ organization, and it is gratifying that our sustained effort continues to have a profound impact.”

American-Red-CrossThe American Red Cross is facing a looming blood shortage leading to an urgent need for donors of all blood types to roll up a sleeve and give. Since May, donations through the Red Cross are down approximately 8 percent, resulting in about 80,000 fewer donations than expected. The number of donors continues to decline and the shortfall is significant enough that the Red Cross could experience an emergency situation in the coming weeks.

“Many people say they never fully understood the importance of donating blood until they or someone they love needed it,” said Colin Riccobon, External Communications Manager of the Red Cross Northeastern Pennsylvania Blood Services Region. “Summer months are always a challenging time for blood collections, and there are patients depending on donors every day to give them hope.”

How to donate blood
Simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Blood Drive Friday at Fluor Field

Greenville-DriveThe Drive and The Blood Connection will team up for a blood drive at Fluor Field this Friday. Those wishing to donate can come to the Field Street Gate between 11 AM to 7 PM.

Each donor will receive a commemorative t-shirt, a voucher good for two tickets to a 2014 Drive game at Fluor Field, a complimentary hot dog and a 12 ounce Pepsi product.

Blood Drive August 7

Rome-BravesJoin us at State Mutual Stadium on Thursday August 7 for a blood drive put on by the American Red Cross of Northwest Georgia. The Blood Drive will take place from 9am to 2pm in the Three Rivers Club at the ballpark.

Lakewood-BlueClaws-LogoThe BlueClaws and Central Jersey Blood Center will partner on a Blood Drive on Saturday, July 26th that runs from 7 am – 2 pm.

The drive will take place in the BlueClaws Executive Conference Center, and each donor will receive a pair of tickets to a future BlueClaws game.

Central-Jersey-Blood-CentersThe BlueClaws and Central Jersey Blood Center encourage all fans to donate, as this is the time of the year when donations are in the greatest need.

Don’t Forget: Please eat before donating. All equipment used during the procedure is sterile and disposable. Donors must be healthy, be at least 16 years of age and weigh at least 120 pounds. Donors must present signature ID.

July 26th is also BruceClaws Night, presented by Central Jersey Blood Center. It’s the BlueClaws annual tribute to Bruce Springsteen. Only Springsteen music will play throughout the night. Plus there will be a special jersey auction with all proceeds benefiting BlueClaws Charities, special Springsteen-themed promotions, and more.

Burlington Bees to host Community Blood Drive on Monday, July 14

Burlington-BeesThe Burlington Bees will host a community Blood Drive from 3 PM to 6 PM on Monday, July 14 at Community Field inside the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center bus.

Donors on that day will each receive a ticket voucher for any home game of their choosing during the rest of the season. All presenting donors will also be entered to win a party night with the Burlington Bees, including 4 box seat tickets to a home game, hot dogs, chips, and soft drinks for 4 and 2 Burlington Bees t-shirts.

Potential donors must be at least 17 years of age (or 16 with parental permission form found at www.bloodcenter.org) and must weight more than 110 pounds. A photo I.D. or MVRBC Donor Card is requried to donate. Donors who last gave blood on or before May 19, 2014 are eligible to give blood at this drive.

Blood donation is a safe, simple procedure that takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour. Individuals with diabetes or controlled high blood pressure may be accepted as eligible donors.
