Rattlers Host Career in Sports Night on May 5

GRAND CHUTE, WI – The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers will host a Career in Sports Night in the Fox Communities Credit Union Fox Club for fans looking to learn about job opportunities and receive tips and information on starting a career in sports on Thursday, May 5. The event will feature representatives from the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Brewers, and more with a panel discussion and a networking/career fair prior to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers game against the Fort Wayne TinCaps that night.

Dragons to Recognize “Hometown Heroes” Honoree During Game on April 22

Dayton, Ohio — The Dayton Dragons will recognize the Miami Valley Young Marines as a “Hometown Heroes” honoree during a special inning break of the Dragons game on Friday, April 22 against the West Michigan Whitecaps at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District. The game will start at 7:05p.m.

The Dayton Dragons shine the spotlight on the military, past and present, through the Hometown Heroes program. This program hosts military families at every Dragons game, recognizing outstanding military organizations and individuals.

Young Marines is a national non-profit education and service program for boys and girls, ages eight through high school. The organization promotes mental, moral, and physical development of its members, upholding the Marine Corps’ core values, as well as the Young Marines’ core values of leadership, discipline, and teamwork.

The Miami Valley unit participates year-round in community projects and events that focus on character building and leadership. Their mission is to nurture and develop its members into responsible citizens who enjoy and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

One of their major initiatives is called “Drill Heroes,” a drill competition held to raise money to complete the Miami Valley Veterans Museum. With multiple age-based competitions, this event brings friends, families, co-workers, and other members of the community together to compete in the largest knockout drill competition ever assembled.

Furthermore, the unit has partnered with Wreaths Across America to lay remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country’s heroes at the Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. This local unit has also been awarded the Fulcrum Shield Award for excellence in youth anti-drug programs from the Department of Defense twice – a distinction that no other unit has achieved.

GO Blue For CASA Event Set For May 5

Bridgewater, New Jersey – The Somerset Patriots, the New York Yankees Double-A affiliate, have teamed up with CASA for a child advocate event at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday, May 5 for the 6:35 p.m. game against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays).

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy declared April 2022 as CASA Child Advocate Month in celebration of the work CASA volunteers do on behalf of the state’s most vulnerable children.

The Patriots will host GO Blue for CASA Night and encourage fans to wear blue to the game as part of the event designed to build awareness around child abuse.

There will be 139 lawn signs located in front of TD Bank Ballpark to represent all the children served in foster care in 2021.

“We’re so excited to team up with the Somerset Patriots to celebrate our CASA Child Advocate volunteers as well as build awareness around child abuse and the impact within our communities,” said Ellen Davis Director of Development CASA SHaW.

Health Careers Night is Wednesday, April 20th

Wednesday night is Health Careers Night. Throughout the night, the Drive will be promoting careers in the healthcare industry to encourage and educate students interested in following this career path. The day begins at 2pm on Field St. with The Blood Connection blood drive. Tennessee Smokies Announce Smokies Trot 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run for June 18

SEVIERVILLE, TN – The Tennessee Smokies have announced the team will host its Smokies Trot 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run at Smokies Stadium on June 18, 2022 at 8:00am. Early packet pick-up will take place on June 17, 2022 from 4:00pm-7:00pm inside The Batter’s Box Bar + Grill.

The Smokies Trot 5K will begin at Smokies Stadium, continue onto roads surrounding the stadium, and finish with runners rounding the bases and crossing home plate.

Registration for the race will open at 9:00am on April 1 and will be $30. The registration fee will increase closer to the event. The fee for the 1 Mile Fun Run will be $25. Participants may register in teams or individually. Registrants will receive a Smokies Trot 5K t-shirt and a field level ticket voucher good for any June 2022 Smokies home game.

Age groups for the event will include 16U male, 16U female, 17-29 male, 17-29 female, 30-39 male, 30-39 female, 40-49 male, 40-49 female, 50-59 male, 50-59 female, 60+ male, and 60+ female.

The top three overall male and female winners will receive a custom Tennessee Smokies full size wood baseball bat. Age group winners in the 5K will receive a Smokies Trot medal.

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos have joined with local athletic legends Michelle Snow, Beth Barr, and Melissa Miller-Schubeck to present Women In Sports Night on Friday, April 22 at Blue Wahoos Stadium. Prior to the Blue Wahoos game against the Montgomery Biscuits that evening, Snow, Barr, and Miller-Schubeck will lead a seminar for female high school and college students focused on inspiring young women in our community to pursue opportunities and careers in athletics.

“Today, more than ever before, women are empowered to create their own destiny, make substantive contributions, and leave our mark on the world of sports. And, while we’re making our difference in real-time, we’re also paving the way for women coming up behind us in this industry so what an important role for us to play,” Blue Wahoos Vice President of Fan Experience Donna Kirby, who will host the seminar, said. “Women are strong and powerful – we are creative thinkers and problem-solvers. It’s gratifying to see our talents leveraged so that the impact we are having both now and in the future, will leave lasting and positive impressions on the sports industry as a whole. A graduate of Pensacola High School, Snow was named Florida’s “Miss Basketball” in 1998. After starring at the University of Tennessee, where she became the third woman in NCAA college basketball history to dunk during a game, she was a first round selection in 2002 WNBA Draft and went on to a 13-year career in the WNBA, making two All-Star teams. Since, she’s become a nationally-recognized speaker, investor, and business advisor.

As a 16-year-old at Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola, Barr won a silver medal in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, swimming the backstroke on Team U.S.A.’s women’s 4×100-meter medley relay. She then attended the University of Texas, winning the 1991 National Championship in the 200-meter backstroke and being named All-America four times. After her swimming career she opened Barracuda Swimworks in Pensacola, using her expertise to help teach children in our community to swim.

Tate High graduate Miller-Schubeck starred nationally in gymnastics as a youth before attending the University of Florida. Named to six All-America teams during her collegiate career, Miller-Schubeck won the SEC All-Around championship in back-to-back years in 1988 and 1989 and was inducted into the University of Florida Hall of Fame. Today, she serves as a Youth Services Director at Heritage Baptist Church.

Storm Chasers, Chasers Charities, share winners of 2022 Chasin’ Dreams grants 

PAPILLION, Neb. – The Omaha Storm Chasers, in conjunction with Chasers Charities, are proud to announce the recipients of the first round of the Chasin’ Dreams Grant.

Cycle 1 recipients of the Chasin’ Dreams Grant include Junior Cougars Baseball, 4SA (non-profit arm of 4Seams Academy), and the Elkhorn Athletic Association. The grant provides funding to local non-profit organizations that help youth baseball and/or softball programs to help with major renovations at their facilities.

Junior Cougars Baseball will use funding to renovate the backstop at Omaha Gross Catholic High School’s baseball field, which is used by the high school team, the Junior Cougars’ U8-U14 teams, legion teams, and men’s over-30 and over-40 teams.

“The support of the Omaha Storm Chasers for our field project is so appreciated,” Junior Cougars Baseball, Inc. President Jim Hempel said. “It will allow us to replace our 30-year-old backstop with some much-needed updates. It will make the field safer and provide our fans with a much better viewing experience.”

4SA, which acquired fields at Aspen Park in the Sun Valley neighborhood in Bellevue, will use funding for fencing, new sod, and dugouts for fields used for free camps and clinics, tournaments and games for 4Seams Academy travel teams, as well as provide free/discounted field use for low-income teams.

“The Chasin’ Dreams Grant will help 4SA build a home field for hundreds of baseball & softball players throughout the Omaha/Metro area,” Co-Owner of 4Seams Academy and Secretary of 4SA Sean Schrader said. “The Grant will help with the cost of bringing these fields up to date. 4SA will build or is in the process of building roofs over the dugouts and installing fences at each field. It will also help with much needed equipment, such as mounds, bases, and paint for our future home. Future renovations include padded backstops, safety netting and permanent outfield fencing. 4SA appreciates everything the Omaha Storm Chasers have donated and want to thank them for their generosity”

The Elkhorn Athletic Association will use funding to add roofs to the existing dugouts at Arbor View Elementary Field, which is used by Elkhorn youth.

“Elkhorn Athletic Association is honored and thankful to receive a grant for building dugout covers on Arbor View Elementary School baseball field from the 2022 Chasin’ Dreams community outreach program,” EAA Executive Director Bruce O’Neel said. “EAA has a long-standing relationship with the Omaha Storm Chasers and enjoys having EAA night at Werner Park each year for our players and families. We admire and respect the Omaha Storm Chasers for being community-minded and investing in youth sports.”

BLUE ROCKS AND ROWAN UNIVERSITY ENHANCE PARTNERSHIP ONCE AGAIN IN 2022



The Wilmington Blue Rocks are pleased to announce yet another expansion to the partnership with Rowan University and Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM. Last year, as part of a collaborative educational effort between the team and the university, Rowan students exclusively handled all aspects of the broadcast, including play-by-play, color commentary and production of all home game broadcasts. As the season continued, additional students were added to the roster in the game presentation and production departments.

“Heading into the 2022 season, we had a great foundation based on how our partnership unfolded during the previous year” said Blue Rocks Assistant General Manager Liz Welch. “When we sat down to discuss 2022, we knew that we could build from that foundation and add additional layers to provide more and more students with valuable industry experience. We’re really excited to get these young professionals in here and to have the chance to work with them.”

This season, over 20 Rowan University students will join the Blue Rocks in various departments, including broadcasting, promotions, and creative services. A rotation of eight student broadcasters will once again call all of the action on the field at Frawley Stadium during the 2022 season. In addition, there will be a staff of three students in the Rowan Radio studios producing each broadcast and hosting the pre and post-game shows. These candidates were selected after a live interview and audition process in late-February.

Some of the new elements of the expanded partnership include a team of reporters who will act as beat writers and cover each game, complete with post-game stories that will be published on both Rowan’s own campus news site ‘The Whit’ as well as BlueRocks.com.

Rounding out the program will be a team of promotions assistants that will help in various roles throughout the game including marketing, creative services, in-game entertainment, and much more.

Rowan University has a strong history of developing students into professional broadcasters, including former Blue Rocks radio voice John Sadak (Blue Rocks broadcaster: 2006-2012), who is now the play-by-play announcer for the Cincinnati Reds.

The Tulsa Drillers are partnering with a number of local organizations this season on several important and fun activities at ONEOK Field. Some of the partnerships will highlight a few of the many individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make our community better, while others will provide unique opportunities for young fans. Lastly, some of the partnerships will bring much-needed funds to organizations that provide valuable resources to so many.

Williams Make-a-Difference Wednesdays

The Williams Make-a-Difference Wednesdays program strives to serve the underprivileged. This program works to provide a night of entertainment to those in the Tulsa Community whose resources are limited.

During the season, the people of Oklahoma Oil and Natural Gas (OERB) will honor a Teacher of the Month at selected Drillers’ games. Each teacher will be brought onto the field and presented with a personal check for $5,000, while a $2,000 donation will be made to their school.

Also, if a Drillers player during the 2022 season “drills” the OERB “Hit it Here” sign, located beyond the ONEOK Field centerfield fence, the people of Oklahoma Oil and Natural Gas will donate $5,000 to a local school to benefit its Science & Math Department.**

March 20, 2022 – The Everett AquaSox is excited to announce our 2022 Reading Program Bookmark Contest winners! We received hundreds of entries into the contest and thank everyone who entered. Our winners are all participants of the Everett AquaSox “Hit A Home Run in Reading” program.

The winners are: Annelise (Age 7) – Cedar Wood Elementary, Olivia (Age 5) – Columbia Elementary, Brady (Age 7) – Cedar Wood Elementary, Serena (Age 10) – Totem Falls Elementary.

For over a decade, the AquaSox have been facilitating a free, local, incentive-based program encouraging kids to read daily. This past year, we dad over 10,000 kids participate from various elementary schools in the area. Teachers, Librarians, and PTA coordinators from each school partnered with the AquaSox and assisted with implementing the program to encourage independent reading as a foundation for life-long learning.

Bats Outfielder Rey Volunteers at Youth Clinic

DAYTONA, FLORIDA — Just before departing for Spring Training, Louisville Bats outfielder Brian Rey volunteered at a youth baseball clinic in Daytona.

Rey worked with the youth ballplayers on fundamentals during the camp on March 2, but when he addressed the group after the workout, he stressed the importance of having fun while learning baseball.

“As you guys learn this game some of this could get frustrating,” Rey told the youth players. “(Eventually) you will get the hang of it, I promise…but the number one thing for you guys right now is to have fun.”

Rey made his Triple-A debut with the Bats on Sept. 29 last season and logged five hits with three RBIs in four games. Following the regular season, he starred in the Winter League in Puerto Rico, hitting .362 with a .455 OBP in 14 games for the Indios De Mayaguez

Deadline Approaching for Oklahoma Teachers to Register for Growing OKC Dodgers MVP Program



OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma elementary school teachers have until March 31 to register for the free, statewide Oklahoma City Dodgers MVP Program: Encouraging STEM Education. All second-, third- and fourth-grade teachers and classrooms throughout Oklahoma are eligible to participate in the sixth year of the program thanks to partners Devon Energy and Olsson.

The OKC Dodgers MVP Program incentivizes teachers and students to participate in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum, rewarding students for their STEM achievements both inside and outside of the classroom.

The program is being offered statewide in Oklahoma for a fourth straight year and has expanded to include second-grade classrooms for the first time.

“The OKC Dodgers MVP Program allows us to provide important STEM-based education to our Oklahoma youth in a fun way with unique classroom resources and incentives to learning,” Michael Byrnes, OKC Dodgers President/General Manager, said. “We are grateful to our partners Devon Energy and Olsson for helping us grow the program throughout Oklahoma and we look forward to continuing to reach new classrooms.”

The MVP Program impacted more than 10,000 students during the 2020-21 school year despite having to navigate unique classroom challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, adding a website filled with STEM activities and resources to help accommodate distance learning that remains available for the 2021-22 academic year.

The number of students impacted year-to-date has already grown more than 50 percent from last year with two weeks still remaining to register.

“We’ve already seen a tremendous increase in participation this year and want to ensure eligible teachers don’t miss out on this great opportunity to register their classrooms before the end of the month,” Byrnes said.

Participation in the MVP Program was initially only open to Oklahoma City Public Schools third- and fourth-grade classrooms in 2016-17. After a successful start, the program expanded in 2017-18 to include additional metro-area classrooms in the Mid-Del, Putnam City, Edmond and Norman school districts. The OKC Dodgers MVP Program became available statewide in 2018-19 and added second-grade classrooms for the 2021-22 academic year.

“I use the program to stimulate critical thinking skills in the classroom,” said Kiera Smith, a teacher in Oklahoma City. “The program has also given my students more hands-on moments and a bit of a competitive edge.”

Participating teachers receive all necessary MVP Program materials free of charge, as well as tickets to an OKC Dodgers game honoring MVP participants. All students participating in the MVP Program will receive tickets to an OKC Dodgers game honoring MVP participants and also receive an exclusive MVP baseball hat.

The OKC Dodgers MVP Program culminates each summer with MVP Field Day at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark — an exclusive event for participating MVP students and teachers, as well as their families, featuring numerous STEM activities.

During the last four years, participating teachers have integrated the program into their classrooms in a variety of ways.

“We used digital content to test over basic math and science skills, critical thinking and hands-on STEM challenges,” said Krystal Clouse, a teacher in OKC. “The students had to complete most of the work outside of the classroom and show real initiative in order to participate”

“I use it as a motivational tool,” Rita Entwistle, a teacher in OKC, said. “It keeps the students wanting to work hard in all areas of the school day, with behavior and academics.”

“I use the program in a variety of ways,” said Dorothy Ray, a teacher Wewoka, Okla. “Hard work, organization and engagement are big in my classroom, but above anything else, kindness, respect and self-worth come first. The grade doesn’t define a student’s success. Motivation, determination, convictions, valor and gains is how young people become better at what they will accomplish.”

Dates Announced for 2022 Express Camps Series



ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express are excited to announce dates for the 2022 Express Camps series at Dell Diamond. Seven unique offerings in the popular baseball and softball camp series are available this year, catering to a variety of ages and skill levels. Registration is now available at ExpressCamps.com.

The Express will offer three half-day camps for participants ages 6-12 this summer with sessions running June 13-16, July 11-14 and August 8-11. A half-day softball camps is also available from August 1-4 for ages 6-14. All half-day camps are scheduled to run from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The Express will also offer a pair of full-day camps, available to participants ages 8-14, from June 20-23 and again from July 18-21. The annual winter camp is set for December 28-30 and is available for campers ages 6-14. The winter camp will run from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. each day.

Woodpeckers Fund Sponsors ASYMCA’s Deployment Story Time

The Fayetteville Woodpeckers will sponsor the launch of ASYMCA’s new Deployment Story Time Program. The goal of the program is to provide support to children and military spouses due to the recent deployment of soldiers stationed at Fort Bragg. Included in the program is a read-along story, a free book and a snack and craft related to the theme of the month. The program will run once a month until the end of 2022 and is set to begin in March.

The Woodpeckers Foundation donated $3,300 to the initiative, which includes the funding of snacks, crafts and a take-home copy of each month’s book. Deployment and patriotism will be the main themes for the program while service members are overseas. The Woodpeckers Foundation will also support ASYMCA’s Month of the Military Child Fair at the end of April.

The BlueClaws and the Girl Scout of the Jersey Shore announced a continuation of their community partnership that is headed by Girl Scout Family Night, set for Friday, June 17th. Thousands of Girl Scouts of all ages, their families, and friends will participate in the evening that will feature activities that showcase programming offered by the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore and the impact those programs make in girls’ lives.

“Friendship, adventure, and making a difference are hallmarks of the Girl Scout experience.
