Autism Awareness Night.

The Tampa Yankees will support Autism Awareness as they host their second annual “Autism Awareness Night” on Saturday, April 25th at George M. Steinbrenner Field against the Daytona Tortugas. The game will begin at 6:00 pm & the gates will open to all fans at 5:00 pm. The night is sponsored by Uncle Bob’s Self Storage.

On “Autism Awareness Night,” custom jerseys will be worn by the players & coaches that will be auctioned off during the game. Auction winners will have the opportunity to get their jersey signed by the player or coach who wore it after the game. The auction will benefit The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) at the University of South Florida.

Saturday, April 25th will also be Friends & Family Night, where Family 4-Packs will be available for $38. Included are four reserved tickets, hot dogs, bags of chips, sodas, TY caps & two passes to Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo. Family 4-Packs can only be purchased at the Steinbrenner Field Box Office.

Before the game, kids will have the opportunity to run the bases from 5-5:15 pm & player autographs will be given on the concourse from 5:10-5:30 pm.

Tickets are $4 for general admission, $6 for reserved seating and can be purchased at the George M. Steinbrenner Field Box Office.

MBF Announces 2015 Grant Recipients

22 organizations are part of 2015 grant class

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Michigan Baseball Foundation (MBF) is pleased to announce that 22 organizations are part of its 2015 grant class. The 2015 grant total is $108,477.

At Olson Park in Saginaw County, Heritage High School Athletics will install two scoreboards with an $8,000 grant. The Mt. Pleasant School District in Isabella County received $6,900 for construction of a press box at their athletic complex. Improvements to the horse arena at the Bay County Fair and Youth Expo received 6,858 this year. In Tuscola County, the Reese High School softball program received $5,000 to build batting cages for their teams to use.

Since 2008, the Michigan Baseball Foundation has awarded 231 grants to deserving non-profit organizations across 14 counties, bringing the grant program’s total to $829,491 since its inception.

The Foundation began its eighth annual grant process in April 2014 and solicited grant applications from non-profit organizations throughout the region. All applicants were required to meet one or more of the following guidelines, which reflected the purposes for which the Michigan Baseball Foundation was organized:

•   The organization contributes to regional economic development.
•   The organization is based in Mid-Michigan and serves young people.
•   The organization promotes amateur sports and fitness

The 2016 grant session begins Monday, April 20, 2015 and applications will be accepted until February 19, 2016. For more information, contact Eric Ramseyer at 989.837.6166, or at eramseyer@loons.com.

The Michigan Baseball Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and public charity, which was formed in 2006 to generate regional economic development and to enhance the efforts of regional organizations that serve young people through creative partnerships and grants. The Michigan Baseball Foundation owns and operates Dow Diamond, home of the Great Lakes Loons, a Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Foundation received its initial funding from The Dow Chemical Company Foundation, The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation, The Dow Corning Corporation, The Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation, The Charles J. Strosacker Foundation and The Bill and Linda Stavropoulos Foundation.

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Grizzlies are allowing fans to pay whatever they want for any available seat to their Wednesday, April 15th home game that begins at 6:35 p.m. The promotion, called Good Karma Night, has the Grizzlies donating half of the proceeds from each ticket purchased to Valley Children’s Hospital. Fans can choose their own price point at the Chukchansi Park Box Office or by calling 559.320.TIXS. If a fan wants to purchase tickets for the game online, there are three price points listed for each available seating section.

            The unique promotion also has the Grizzlies adding an additional player to the roster. Jackson Standifer, 12, is a Valley Children’s patient who recovered from Burkitt’s Stage-4 Lymphoma this past January and signed a one-day contract with the team last week. Standifer is expected to enter the ballpark at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, head to the Grizzlies clubhouse, take the field with the team for warmups, and throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Grizzlies General Manager Derek Franks made a point to ensure that weekday games (Monday through Thursday) during the school year ended earlier than in years past. Although the front office can’t control the length of a baseball game, they made a point to move first pitch up 30 minutes from previous years in order to allow families to watch an entire game and get home before 10:00 p.m. The April 13th Monday game also marks the first of a new $20 Must Catch Monday promotion, presented by The Fresno Bee, that includes two Field Level Reserve game tickets, two Fresno Chaffee Zoo vouchers, two Blackbeard’s Mini Golf vouchers, and two John’s Incredible Pizza Company vouchers.

In what’s being dubbed Good Karma Night at Chukchansi Park, fans choose their own price point, with half of the proceeds from each ticket purchased benefiting Valley Children’s Hospital. 7th Annual Autism Awareness Night is April 18th

With 1 in 110 children in the United States diagnosed with some form of Autism, the Hillcats are lending a hand to offer awareness and support to this cause in 2015. The 7th Annual Autism Awareness Night presented by Physicians Treatment Center is scheduled for Saturday, April 18th and will raise money for Commonwealth Autism Services.

As many as 75,000 in Virginia are affected with this developmental disability and Commonwealth Autism Services is an organization that strives to enrich the lives of those in Virginia with autism, throughout their entire lifespan through statewide services. GA tickets are $11 and two dollars of each ticket sold for April 18th’s game will be donated to this organization.

This year’s Autism Awareness Night presented by Physicians Treatment Center is slated for 6:30pm when the Hillcats will take on the Potomac Nationals at City Stadium. Plus, the first 1,000 fans through the gates that evening will receive a free commemorative t-shirt! Along with donating a portion of the ticket costs, proceeds from a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and sponsor donations will also be donated during an in-game check presentation. Last year’s Autism Awareness Night raised over $12,000!

Wings to Honor First Responders, Military on Opening Day

For Opening Day on Saturday, April 11 the Rochester Red Wings will honor local police, fire fighters, emergency medical responders, military branches and their families for all they do serving this community. Over 2,000 of these local men and women will be in attendance thanks to the generosity of over 50 local businesses and individuals who donated tickets to our local heroes. Game time is 1:35 p.m. and the gates will open to fans at noon.

Red Wings players and field staff will wear commemorative hats on Saturday in honor of fallen Rochester Police Department Officer Daryl Pierson. The game-used hats will be autographed and auctioned off during the game with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting the Rochester Police Foundation which will benefit Officer Pierson’s wife, Amy, and children; Christian and Charity. Amy will be in attendance to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

“Opening Day is always a special day and this year figures to be no different,” General Manager Dan Mason said. “We are thrilled to host so many of our local heroes and their families at Opening Day. We look forward to honoring Officer Pierson with our commemorative cap and raising money for his family.”

Barons, Children’s of Alabama Host Superhero Night

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Barons are partnering with Children’s of Alabama Friday, April 24 to bring Superhero Night to Regions Field. The Barons will wear superhero-themed jerseys to be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting ill and injured children treated at the state’s only freestanding hospital.

“This will be a fun, exciting night for such a great cause,” Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson said. “Visible just beyond the right field wall, Children’s of Alabama is such an important part of our city, and it is always very fulfilling to give back. We will have a few patients at the game, but even those who can’t make it can still enjoy the fireworks from just a couple of blocks away.”

Fans are encouraged to dress as their favorite superhero, and a special fireworks show set to the theme music of superhero movies is to follow. The Barons also welcome many specials guests with representatives from Children’s to serve as honorary bat boy, throw out the first pitch and cue the start of the game by yelling “play ball!”

Artist Patrick Giles will also be on-hand to entertain fans on the concourse. Fans have the opportunity to purchase original comic sketches and have themselves drawn as superheroes by Patrick, whose resume includes work with Topps, Upper Deck and Conan O’Brien. His recent projects include creating trading cards featuring characters from Star Wars, Batman, X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy.

The jersey auction is also set to take place on the concourse throughout the game as a silent auction. After the game, jerseys will be signed by the player and awarded to the highest bidder.

“Children’s of Alabama is thrilled to partner with the Birmingham Barons for Superhero Night,” Children’s Coordinator of Community Development Shane Autrey said. “We think this theme is ideally suited for the families we treat right down the street from Regions Field, because all of our patients are superheroes to us.”

San Jose, CA– The San Jose Giants unveiled today their 2015 Salute to the Military Trading Card Set, presented by Operation: Care and Comfort. All branches of the United States Military are represented in the set. In addition, the trading cards include current military personnel, individuals killed in action as well as veterans from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and Gulf Wars. Included in the set are San Francisco Giants Hall of Fame outfielder Willie Mays, who served in the Army during the 1950’s, as well as heroic Navy Seal, and author of the book Lone Survivor, Marcus Luttrell. New Raffle to Benefit Ronald McDonald House

The partnership of the world’s most famous and successful baseball team’s top-tier farm club with outstanding, affordable, family-friendly entertainment has meant victory for all of NEPA. In 2015, add another possible triumph to the list. The team has added a 50/50 raffle with half of the proceeds going to a lucky winner and the other half heading to the Ronald McDonald House of Scranton.

Ronald-McDonald-House-Logo-“The people of Northeastern Pennsylvania are so generous and eager to help others,” said Patricia Stella, president of the McDonald’s Association of Northeastern PA and a local owner/operator. “This season, in partnership with the RailRiders, we encourage fans who attend the games to participate in the 50/50 raffle. The money that is raised will help our Ronald McDonald Houses in Scranton and Danville continue to reach out to the local community and help families with seriously ill children.”

Raffle tickets will be available for purchase during every home game throughout the 2015 season from a roaming seller or at a kiosk located behind home plate on the main concourse. Ticket sales will begin when gates open and close at the end of the seventh inning.

Myrtle-Beach-PelicansThe Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, will host the third annual Special Olympics Night in conjunction with Superhero Night as part of “Geekend” on Saturday, April 25 at TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. This season, the Pelicans will wear unique superhero-themed uniforms that will be auctioned off to benefit the Special Olympics as well.

This marks the second time that Special Olympics Night will overlap with Superhero Night, although it is the first time that the Pelicans will wear superhero-themed series on this night. “The superhero theme is a natural fit for Special Olympics Night,” remarked Pelicans Senior Director of Community Jen Borowski. “All the Special Olympics athletes are superheroes in my eyes.”

Special-OlympicsFans who wish to donate to the Special Olympics at the game will be able to do so at the Special Olympics table in the concourse or at the Guest Services booth. Proceeds from the jersey auction and 50/50 raffle will also benefit the Special Olympics.

Those that wish to bid on jerseys will be able to do so whether in attendance or not, as select jerseys will be available for bidding online. The game-worn jerseys will be autographed by the corresponding player or coach immediately following the game, and fans at the game will have the opportunity to take a photo with the player or coach as well.

Over the past two seasons, the Pelicans and the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) have helped raise over $23,000 for the Special Olympics of South Carolina through the proceeds from this event.

“This is a real passion for many of us here locally in law enforcement,” remarked Lance Corporal Felix Cruz, who is part of the LETR, which runs a handful of events in the area to raise money for Special Olympics. “We want to get as many people out there to the game as possible to help raise money for the Special Olympics. The money allows athletes locally, regionally, and nationally to train and compete in Special Olympics events, and without the financial support, many of the Special Olympics athletes would not be able to do so.”

In addition to raising money for the Special Olympics, the night also serves as a platform to highlight the Special Olympics athletes. The athletes will take part in a pre-game parade on the field, participate in a variety of on-field games and in-park promotions, and take the field with the Pelicans players at the start of the game.

Pelicans players and coaches will also hold a private meet-and-greet and autograph session with the Special Olympics athletes prior to first pitch.

The LETR runs a number of events in Horry county to help raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics, including: Teacher on the Roof, Capture the Flag Tournament, Dip, Duck and Dive Dodgeball Tournament, Tip the Waiter, St. James Got Talent, a Fashion Show at St. James, and Krispy Kreme Cops on Doughnut Shop. The Pelicans help the LETR support a number of these programs and recognize Special Olympics athletes outside of Special Olympics Night as well, including an on-field ceremony during the 2014 Carolina League postseason, in which athletes participating in the 2014 Special Olympics USA games were recognized prior to the Pelicans game.

Cougars Announce Charity Partnerships For 2015 Season

Partnerships with multiple organizations to positively impact local causes in 2015

Kane-County-CougarsThe Kane County Cougars have announced a community outreach partnership for the 2015 season in which four organizations will receive a portion of the in-game 50/50 raffle proceeds through Ozzie’s Outreach Foundation, the Cougars’ charitable arm. Those four organizations are Project Backpack (April/May), DuPage Pads (June), Northern Illinois Food Bank (July) and Family Shelter Service (August/September). Also, the Cougars through their partnership with Acres Group, have announced that the Gateway Foundation Alcohol & Drug Treatment Centers will be the recipient of the charitable proceeds from this season’s “Pitch In For Charity” promotion in which fans, following select games, purchase and throw numbered tennis balls onto a target in order to win a prize.

Project Backpack (project-backpack.org) is a community-based initiative led by Elgin Community College that benefits local students who are in need of necessary school supplies.

DuPage Pads (dupagepads.org) has the solution to end homelessness with housing coupled with support services and employment which leads to improved health and economic sustainability.

Northern Illinois Food Bank (solvehungertoday.org) works with 800 community food pantries and feeding programs across 13 counties to solve hunger in northern Illinois by providing nutritious food to more than 71,000 people at risk of hunger each week. Volunteers can assist at one of their three centers including their west suburban location in Geneva.

Family Shelter Service (familyshelterservice.org), founded in 1976 and located in nearby Wheaton, transforms lives by offering help and hope to those affected by domestic violence.

Gateway Foundation Alcohol & Drug Treatment Centers (recovergateway.org) have provided the answers that individuals and their families need about drug and alcohol treatment. The organization has several treatment centers throughout Illinois, including nearby Aurora.

“Since the franchise’s inaugural season in 1991 and continuing through our upcoming 25th anniversary season, the Cougars’ organization has strived to be the best possible neighbor by giving back to the community in many ways,” said Cougars Vice President/General Manager Curtis Haug.

“Through these types of initiatives, fans can see how deep our commitment is as an organization towards helping others in need,” said Cougars owner Dr. Bob Froehlich.

Added Cougars owner Cheryl Froehlich: “We are reminded more than ever when these milestone seasons occur, that the Cougars organization is aware of how much support that has been shown to us over the years and how critically important it is to give back.”

Muckdogs 2015 Hot Stove Dinner Set

The Genesee County Baseball Club will hold its annual Batavia Muckdogs Hot Stove Dinner and Auction on Saturday, March 21st, from 4:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Church Hall at 17 Sumner Street in Batavia. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under.

The evening will begin with a cocktail hour followed by a buffet dinner at 5:30. The Hot Stove Dinner is a time for good food, friendship and baseball talk. The night also features silent and live auctions of baseball-related memorabilia (including signed bats and balls), work by local artists, and gift certificates from a variety of local businesses. This year’s dinner will also benefit the Center of Hope, the Batavia VA’s new facility for women veterans.

Tickets may be purchased in Batavia at Dwyer Stadium, Gerace’s Hair Care, the Williams Law Firm, the office of Dr. Alan Barcomb, and State Street Animal Hospital.

Gwinnett Braves Award January Grant to The Path Project

Organization receives $1,000 “I Have a Dream” themed grant

Gwinnett BravesThe Gwinnett Braves have announced the recipient of their $1,000 grant for the month of January. The Path Project, Inc. has been awarded the “I Have a Dream” themed grant, aimed at funding an organization that grants wishes, dreams and opportunities for the youth, elderly, injured or sick.

Path-ProjectThe Path Project offers academic, social and spiritual development for at-risk youth living in mobile home communities in Gwinnett and surrounding counties. The non-profit organization works to help those students close the achievement gap, graduate from high school, become productive members of society and find the right path for their lives. The outreach ministry currently operates five community centers in five mobile home parks, serving approximately 450 children each week.

The community centers run by The Path Project provide preschool programs, after-school programs, summer camps, soccer teams and mentoring services. Certified teachers and youth development specialists oversee the centers, run the programs, communicate with parents and schools, as well as lead volunteers. The $1,000 grant awarded by the Gwinnett Braves will be used for literacy and educational enrichment through field trips and the purchase of books and school supplies.

“On behalf of the staff, volunteers, students and families of Gwinnett County that are part of The Path Project, I wish to say thank you to the Gwinnett Braves organization for their generous grant of $1,000,” said Jim Hollandsworth, Co-Founder and Executive Director of The Path Project. “This grant will go directly to academic endeavors that are part of our after-school and literacy programs that serve hundreds of children and teenagers living in Gwinnett County. We are honored to partner with the Gwinnett Braves to help these young people find the right path for their lives.”

About The Path Project, Inc.: The Path Project is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization formed in 2009 by Jim and Melinda Hollandsworth as an outreach ministry of Graystone Church in Grayson, GA. What started as a once-a-week homework help program at the Gwinnett Estates mobile home park soon grew to a four-day-a-week, after-school program that included preschool, mentoring and soccer activities. The Path Project expanded in 2012 to serve other mobile home communities in Gwinnett, Walton and Newton counties, including Valley Brook in Stone Mountain, Bay Creek in Loganville and Riverside Estates in Covington. Gwinnett Braves Award December Grant to The Next Stop

Organization receives $1,000 “Season of Giving” themed grant

Gwinnett BravesThe Gwinnett Braves have announced the recipient of their $1,000 grant for the month of December. The Next Stop Foundation, Inc. has been awarded the “Season of Giving” themed grant, aimed at funding an education organization.

The Next Stop works with developmentally disabled adults, as well as those with traumatic brain injuries in Gwinnett County and the surrounding area. The non-profit organization provides members who have aged out of the school system with a place to socialize, learn and enjoy friendships in a fulfilling and challenging way. Through high-quality group activities, learning opportunities and personalized mentorship, The Next Stop helps its members grow in the areas of self-confidence, social skills, maturity, life skills and awareness.

The-Next-StopOne such group activity, cooking education, provides members with a cooperative environment in which to exercise cognitive and motor skills. Each small group works together to perform recipe preparation and clean-up before enjoying the fruits of their labor. The $1,000 grant awarded by the Gwinnett Braves will fund over two months of kitchen costs associated with the cooking education program.

“We are truly grateful to the Gwinnett Braves for this grant award,” said Vicki LaRoche, Co-Founder and Executive Director of The Next Stop. “At The Next Stop we provide opportunities for members to experience social situations, recreational fun and life appreciation learning. Because our members cook each day at The Next Stop, these funds will be used to support our kitchen education.”
