Fifth Third Field to Host Flame of Hope 5K

Dayton-DragonsFifth Third Field will host the Epilepsy Foundation of Western Ohio 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, May 3rd from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Heater, the Dragons mascot, will be in attendance.

A portion of proceeds will be used to send several children with epilepsy to Camp Flame Catcher. Camp Flame Catcher is designed to give kids with epilepsy a typical camping experience that their friends enjoy with the added benefit of trained epilepsy specialists.

Epilepsy-FoundationThe event will include a traditional timed 5K for all runners and walkers as well as a one mile stroll. The event will begin on the Plaza at Fifth Third Field and continue along the scenic Great Miami River.

Bees to Support Health and Education During Eight-Game Homestand May 2-9

Salt-Lake-BeesThe Salt Lake Bees will host their eighth annual “Pack the Park Pink Night” at Smith’s Ballpark on Saturday, May 3 in collaboration with Huntsman Cancer Foundation (HCF) and Swing for Life. On Tuesday, May 6, the eight-game homestand will continue with the team honoring local educators during “Teacher Appreciation Night.”

Huntsman-Cancer-FoundationWhen the Bees take on the Reno Aces on May 3, players will wear commemorative caps and jerseys featuring pink ribbons in support of breast cancer awareness and fans will encouraged to help “Pack the Park Pink” by wearing the color of the night. A highlight of the evening will be a blind auction of the player-worn jerseys and caps with all proceeds benefiting HCF. Following the game, jersey buyers will have the opportunity to meet Bees players on the field for photograph opportunities while collecting their player-autographed jerseys. In partnership with the Bees, Swing for Life will also have pink t-shirts available for purchase with all proceeds benefiting HCF. Gates open at 5:35 p.m. and fans will be treated to a fireworks show following the conclusion of the game.

As part of an ongoing effort to honor and thank local educators, the Bees will host “Teacher Appreciation Night” on Tuesday, May 6 when the team takes on the Las Vegas 51s at 6:35 p.m. Admission to the game is free for all teachers when they show their school I.D. at the box office. Teachers may also purchase discounted tickets for family members for just $8.

“Pack the Park Pink Night” and “Teacher Appreciation Night” are part of the Bees organization’s year-round community outreach initiatives to support health and wellness, education and youth development.

‘Dads Breast Cancer Awareness Weekend

Weekend highlighted by pink jersey auction on Sunday

Hickory-CrawdadsThe Hickory Crawdads have announced the details for their annual Breast Cancer Awareness weekend, which is scheduled for Friday, May 9th – Sunday, May 11th.

The 3-day promotion, presented by KICKS 103.3, will focus on the color pink with the team hoping to raise both awareness and financial support in the battle against breast cancer. The festivities begin on Friday, with the Crawdads looking to “Paint the Park Pink.” The ‘Dads players will debut special pink game jerseys that they will wear throughout the weekend, and any fan who wears pink to the ballpark will receive a $5 ticket to the game.

Saturday will feature replica pink Crawdads uniforms for the first 1,000 fans with paid admittance, courtesy of Pepsi.

The weekend promotion will wrap up with a big day on Sunday. In honor of Mother’s Day, all moms in attendance will receive a free carnation at the front gate. The Crawdads will also finish the auction of their game-worn, pink jerseys, with a live silent auction at L.P. Frans Stadium. The online portion of the jersey auction is available now, with fans able to bid on the uniform of any 2014 Hickory Crawdad. The online auction will end at 12:00 pm on May 11th, with the auction concluding live at the ballpark during the game

A portion of the proceeds from the jersey auction will go towards a local breast cancer support organization. You can find the online auction page on the Crawdads website here.

City Stadium Will See Purple on May 2nd!

Lynchburg-HillcatsThe Lynchburg Hillcats are teaming up with Relay for Life of Lynchburg and the American Cancer Society on Friday, May 2nd at 6:05pm for the 3rd Annual Paint the Park Purple Night and T-Shirt Giveaway for the first 1,000 fans presented by Gastroenterology Associates of Central Virginia!

Gates will open at 5pm and general Admission Tickets for the game will be $10 with a portion of every ticket sold benefiting the American Cancer Society. Relay for Life of Lynchburg will be held on May 30, 2014 at Heritage High School and is an overnight relay style walk-a-thon that raises money for the American Cancer Society, as well as honors cancer survivors and remembers those lost to cancer. Local participants have been able to sell tickets to Paint the Park Purple Night as a part of their fundraising for their relay team. Fans will also be able to participate in a 50/50 raffle during the game, proceeds of which will also benefit the American Cancer Society.

Charleston-RiverDogsGeneral Manager Dave Echols has announced that the Charleston RiverDogs will be participating in Minor League Baseball’s “Winning with Doubles” fundraising campaign to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Carolina Youth Development Center.

Fans can participate by visiting the “Winning with Doubles” site (www.MiLB.com/give), select the Charleston RiverDogs as their team, and pledge the amount they would like to donate for each double hit by a RiverDogs player in April and May.

Big-Brothers-Big-Sisters2Bigs and Littles will be attending the RiverDogs game on Friday, May 16, against the Hickory Crawdads. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.

The RiverDogs plan to have the Bigs and Littles stand on the field with players and coaches before the game and will donate items for a BBBS raffle. One lucky Little will throw the ceremonial first pitch.

Another opportunity for fan participation will be at the May 16 game when fans can purchase tickets for the BBBS raffle.

“We hope that by creating further awareness for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Carolina Youth Development Center and the need for more caring adult mentors here in the Lowcountry, we will encourage people to become involved in the program by applying to volunteer as a Big,” said Echols, who is a longtime member of their board of directors.

High School Baseball Returns to Fifth Third Field on Monday Night

Dayton, Ohio- Fifth Third Field and the Dayton Dragons will host high school baseball for the ninth straight season in 2014 with the action starting on Tuesday, April 8 at 4:30 p.m. Overall this spring, 30 high schools will play regular season games at the home of the Dragons.

High school baseball at Fifth Third Field also serves as a fundraiser for the participating schools. This year’s series of games will raise approximately $30,000 for the schools to help with the cost of uniforms, equipment, and bus transportation.

All games are sponsored by MAC Athletics, experts in athletic facility planning, design, construction, and equipment acquisition. Go to macathletix.com for more information on their services.

Monday evening’s game features the Franklin-Monroe Jets and the Arcanum Trojans. In the most recent Miami Valley Baseball Coaches Association poll, the Trojans were ranked as the third best team among Division IV schools. Arcanum claimed a 2013 Division IV Southwest District Championship. Arcanum and Franklin-Monroe both compete in the Cross County Conference. The game will be broadcast live on 97.5 WTGR and online on the Gem City Sports Network.

The Dayton Dragons have been hosting the Miami Valley’s best baseball teams since 2006 and are proud to continue the tradition for a ninth year. A complete list of high school baseball games scheduled to be played at Fifth Third Field can be found at daytondragons.com.

All games are free to attend and the media are invited to cover them. Gates will open one hour prior to the first game played that day. High schools may provide their own PA announcers, cheer squads, and national anthem singers. Some even bring their own radio broadcasters to the ballpark. Participating high schools sell Dragons tickets to help raise money for their programs.

6th Annual Autism Awareness Night April 19th

Lynchburg-HillcatsWith 1 in 110 children in the United States diagnosed with some form of Autism, the Hillcats are lending a hand to offer awareness and support to this cause in 2014. The 6th Annual Autism Awareness Night presented by Physicians Treatment Center is scheduled for Saturday, April 19th and will raise money for Commonwealth Autism Services.

As many as 75,000 in Virginia are affected with this developmental disability and Commonwealth Autism Services is an organization that strives to enrich the lives of those in Virginia with autism, throughout their entire lifespan through statewide services. GA tickets are $10 and two dollars of each ticket sold for April 19th’s game will be donated to this organization.

Plus, the first 1,000 fans through the gates that evening will receive a free commemorative t-shirt! Five Guys Team Up With Lake Monsters For Annual “May Days” Fundraising Campaign

BURLINGTON, VT — The Vermont Lake Monsters are excited to announce Five Guys as a partner with their annual May fundraiser to benefit non-profits from across the state of Vermont. “Five Guys May Days” fundraiser will launch May 1st as a month-long program devoted to helping raise funds and awareness for state wide non-profits.

“We at Five Guys are very excited to get a chance to support Vermont charities.”, said local Five Guys franchisee owner Greg Vasey. “It’s even more fun when we can show that support while cheering on the Lake Monsters. We’re flattered by the welcome we have received since opening a couple years ago, and this a great way to give something back.”

Support of local non-profits has shown both the Lake Monsters and Five Guys strong commitment to the greater Burlington community. The goal of this program is not only to provide the opportunity for organizations to raise money, but also raise awareness for their programs all while providing a chance for supporters to come together on their night at the ballpark.

Dragonheart VT is just one of the many local non-profits who have made coming out to the ballpark a yearly event for their supporters.

“This program is a chance for Dragonheart Vermont members to get together and support the Lake Monsters as well as the Lake Monsters supporting us”, said Judy Kinner of Dragonheart Vermont. “We have done this program the past two years are grateful for the opportunity to raise money for breast cancer and supporters dragon boating teams, we will certainly be doing the program again this upcoming season.”

Participating non-profits will have the entire month of May to promote and sell $6 Lake Monsters tickets through a specific URL link designated to their organization for a specific game during the season. After the month of May is completed, the Lake Monsters will total the tickets sold by the non-profit and donate half of the proceeds back to that particular organization. Following the selling period Five Guys will also donate up to $500 to match the amount raised by the highest selling non-profit in the program. When the particular game which the non-profit had been selling for arrives during the season, that organization will be recognized on field and presented a check worth the amount of money which they have raised.

Bandits Race to Home 5K doubles participants, raises over $13K for Bandits Scholars Program

More than 600 participants get unique experience of finishing at home plate inside Modern Woodmen Park

More than 600 runners and walkers competed in the second annual Bandits Race to Home 5K and Fun Run presented by Palmer Chiropractic Clinics and finishing inside Modern Woodmen Park on Saturday morning, helping raise more than $13,000 toward the Bandit Scholars Program.

Participation doubled from the inaugural race of 2013, and funds raised increased by 160% for the Bandit Scholars Program, which annually awards the Bandit Scholarships. Each scholarship pays the entire first-year college tuition for two Quad Cities-area students.

“We want to thank the people of the Quad Cities for embracing the annual Bandits Race to Home 5K with outstanding participation and support of the Bandit Scholars Program,” said River Bandits owner Dave Heller. “All of the participants, volunteers, staff and spectators made this year’s Bandits Race to Home 5K a memorable and unique community event to celebrate the Quad Cities and the start of another fun-filled season at Modern Woodmen Park!”

The fastest male and female finishers in each of the 10 age groups – 19 & under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59 and 60-plus – were awarded trophies courtesy of Crown Trophy, while the second and third place finishers received medals. Additionally, the top three male and female runners were awarded with trophies.

The Bandits Race to Home 5K began on River Drive and Gaines Street in downtown Davenport, Iowa, crossed the Centennial Bridge to Rock Island, Ill., headed over to the Rock Island Arsenal, then back across the Arsenal Bridge before finishing at home plate inside Modern Woodmen Park.

The Fun Run featured young contestants racing the River Bandits’ mascot Rascal from outside the left field wall of the stadium and finishing just inside the gate of Modern Woodmen Park. Each contestant was awarded a Fun Run ribbon to commemorate his or her victory over Rascal.

ABOUT THE BANDITS: Having just been named Ballpark Digest’s winner of Best Ballpark Improvement in America under $1 million, the River Bandits ownership is making one of the biggest improvements to Modern Woodmen Park since the ballpark was first built back in 1931! A new Ferris wheel, standing 110 feet over the playing field, is opening in May, along with a carousel, a new ride called a “Drop and Twist,” an expanded 300-foot long zip line, and many other new games and attractions. Bandits fans can put names on jerseys for Breast Cancer Awareness Night

Deadline April 23 to submit signatures; pink jersey auction proceeds will go to Genesis Center for Breast Health

Quad Cities River Bandits fans were the first in the country to be able to purchase photos on the back of player jerseys for professional sports jersey auction for charity, and this season they will have another unique opportunity to support a cause while honoring loved ones. Through April 23, fans can purchase space for a signature or name to appear on pink jerseys the team will wear for its first-ever pink jersey auction on Breast Cancer Awareness Night presented by Genesis Health Systems and the Quad-City Times on Friday, June 13.

“The entire region has made River Bandits jersey auctions hugely successful events to benefit Quad Cities-area charities, and this summer’s Breast Cancer Awareness Night and jersey auction is another fantastic opportunity for Quad Citians to make a big impact right here in our community,” said team owner Dave Heller. “With the support of our great fans, the pink jerseys will be a memorable tribute to all the women and their families who have bravely battled breast cancer, as well as a strong sign of unwavering support for those who continue to battle breast cancer.”

Fans can purchase space for the signature or name of a loved one who is battling or has battled breast cancer. The signatures and names will be placed on the River Bandits players’ pink jerseys that will be worn Friday, June 13, for Breast Cancer Awareness Night presented by Genesis Health Systems and the Quad-City Times. After the game, the jerseys will be auctioned off, with all the proceeds benefitting the Genesis Center for Breast Health. Each signature or name space is available for purchase at $25 each, with every single dollar raised going to the Genesis Center for Breast Health. “We are grateful to the Quad Cities community that makes all of these local charity events possible, and we are thrilled to partner with Genesis Health Systems and the Quad-City Times for Breast Cancer Awareness Night,” said General Manager Andrew Chesser. “The pink jersey auction will benefit a great cause and raise awareness for women and their families whom we are humbled to support with this night at Modern Woodmen Park.”

This year will also mark the fourth annual Camo Jersey Auction presented by the Iowa Army National Guard on May 24, as well as the third annual photo jersey auction Friday, Aug. 8, on Autism Awareness Night presented by KWQC and the Quad Cities Autism Center. The River Bandits were the first U.S. professional sports team to auction photo jerseys for local cancer charities in 2012, and the 2013 Autism Awareness Photo Jersey Auction earned a Golden Bobblehead Award from Minor League Baseball for the Best Charity Promotion in the nation.

ABOUT THE BANDITS: Having just been named Ballpark Digest’s winner of Best Ballpark Improvement in America under $1 million, the River Bandits ownership is making one of the biggest improvements to Modern Woodmen Park since the ballpark was first built back in 1931! A new Ferris wheel, standing 110 feet over the playing field, is opening in May, along with a carousel, a new ride called a “Drop and Twist,” an expanded 300-foot long zip line, and many other new games and attractions. In 2013, the team unveiled a new 220-foot long dual zip line, a rock climbing wall, and a number of new bounce houses. Eight Local High Schools to Play at Fifth Third Field this Weekend

Double-headers scheduled for Friday and Saturday

Dayton, Ohio- Fifth Third Field and the Dayton Dragons will host high school baseball for the ninth straight season in 2014 with the action starting on Tuesday, April 8 at 4:30 p.m. Overall this spring, 30 high schools will play regular season games at the home of the Dragons.

High school baseball at Fifth Third Field also serves as a fundraiser for the participating schools. This year’s series of games will raise approximately $30,000 for the schools to help with the cost of uniforms, equipment, and bus transportation.

All games are sponsored by MAC Athletics, experts in athletic facility planning, design, construction, and equipment acquisition. Go to macathletix.com for more information on their services.

Friday’s twin bill features St. Henry and Coldwater at 5:00 p.m., followed by Coldwater and Marion Local at 7:30 p.m.

The St. Henry Redskins are off to a 3-1 start on the year and are only one-half game out of first place in the Midwest Athletic Conference standings. They will square off with a very young Covington Buccs squad, which will turn to OF Justin Williams, 3B Dain Peters and 1B Jake Albright for leadership this season. The Buccs are 2-3 so far this year.

The Coldwater Cavaliers and Marion Local Flyers will play under the Friday night lights in a Midwest Athletic Conference showdown. Coldwater went 22-5 last year and returns seven starters to the field, including senior pitcher Grant Muhlenkamt and junior RF Brady Hoyne. Marion local is 4-1 on the season, good for first place in the league standings. They are led by sophomore Aaron Niepfeld, who hit .426 last season, and lone senior Austin Albers. The Flyers are led by first year head coach Dustin Woods.

Saturday afternoon features two more outstanding matchups. Lehman Catholic will battle Fairborn at 1:00 p.m. and Greenon hosts Northeastern at 4:00 p.m.

Lehman Catholic, members of the Northwest Central Conference, had a solid season last year and returns a number of key players in 2014. Drew Westerheide is the squad’s lone senior, while juniors Greg Spearman and AJ Hemmelgarn anchor the left side of the infield. Head coach Dave King recently picked up his 500th career coaching victory. Fairborn is led by Ryan Profitt and Ty Boedicker, who each have a hit in five of their first 11 at bats this spring. Brent Grody (1-0) has nine strikeouts through five innings pitched.

The Greenon Knights will battle the Northeastern Jets in the final game of the weekend. Greenon returns seven players from last year’s squad and has started the season with excellent pitching, thanks to Dustin McReynolds and James Schroeder.

The Dayton Dragons have been hosting the Miami Valley’s best baseball teams since 2006 and are proud to continue the tradition for a ninth year. A complete list of high school baseball games scheduled to be played at Fifth Third Field can be found at daytondragons.com.

All games are free to attend and the media are invited to cover them. Gates will open one hour prior to the first game played that day. High schools may provide their own PA announcers, cheer squads, and national anthem singers. Some even bring their own radio broadcasters to the ballpark. Participating high schools sell Dragons tickets to help raise money for their programs.

Drive to Support Furman Baseball’s Vs. Cancer Initiative

The Furman baseball program has raised over $30,000 in their annual initiative to raise awareness of pediatric cancer, and because Furman has been such a loyal partner to the Greenville Drive and play games at Fluor Field annually, the Drive are lending their support to the cause.

Because Furman reached $30,000 before their game at Fluor Field against South Carolina, Drive General Manager Eric Jarinko will participate in shaving his head with Furman’s players following the game, with Drive staff members taking turns shaving his head. Jarinko is also encouraging Drive staff members and fans to continue to donate money to Furman’s team.

“The Drive is pleased to contribute to Furman’s team as they continue to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer,” Jarinko said. “Furman is currently in first place out of 120 college baseball teams across the nation in the amount of money raised, but they are being chased closely by the University of Oklahoma. We hope additional donations from our staff and fans will help Furman reach their goal of being the top contributor in college baseball in the fight against pediatric cancer.”

“The Greenville Drive has always been supportive of Furman, our program and the Greenville community,” added Ron Smith, Furman’s Head Baseball Coach. “This is just another example of their extraordinary involvement that goes beyond the baseball field.”

In addition to being near the top of total money raised this season, Furman raised the most money of any college baseball program in 2013. Half of the money Furman raises benefits national childhood cancer research, and the other half goes towards a local children’s hospital.

Come out to Fluor Field on Tuesday night as the Paladins take on South Carolina at 7:00, and stick around after the game as Furman’s players, and potentially the Drive General Manager, shave their heads for pediatric cancer awareness.

Spirit of Boston Run to be Held on Monday

Timed 5K will benefit City of Greenville Youth Baseball Program

Greenville, SC – The Greenville Drive, emediagroup, Caine Halter YMCA and Setup Events have combined forces to coordinate the Spirit of Boston Run, a timed 5K, on Monday, April 21st. The 5K will begin at 5:30 PM, and the run leads into the Drive’s game against the Asheville Tourists at 7:05.

All funds raised will go to the City of Greenville Community Youth Baseball Program, which provides inner city children with an opportunity to play baseball in a structured program at their community park.

“We are thrilled to host the Spirit of Boston Run on April 21st,” commented Drive General Manager Eric Jarinko. “With over $20,000 raised, last year’s Run for One event was a huge success in support of the events at last year’s Boston Marathon, and making this an annual event will be a great step as we continue our efforts to bring the Greenville community closer to the city of Boston.”

Jarinko continued, “We are proud of our affiliation with the Boston Red Sox, and the run will live up to its namesake by channeling the spirit of Boston on the same day as the Boston Marathon. That combined with all funds benefitting the City of Greenville’s Youth Baseball Program will make this an exciting day for everyone involved.”

Runners and walkers will start at the Caine Halter YMCA at 5:30pm. The course will wind its way through Cleveland Park from the YMCA and have its own version of Boston Marathon’s “Heartbreak Hill”. Runners and walkers will finish by entering Fluor Field, running by its own version of the iconic Green Monster, and crossing home plate while high-fiving players and coaches from the Drive.

“We believe that having Drive players and coaches greeting runners as they finish adds a nice touch to the event,” said Jarinko. “They have aspirations of playing or coaching in Boston one day, so they understand the significance of this event and how much the Red Sox organization means to Boston.”

The Drive collected new and lightly used equipment at the Hot Stove event in January, and partly because of the Drive’s efforts, the league is all set for play in 2014.

“Having the Greenville Drive as the Title Sponsor of the Community Youth Baseball Program has been a huge benefit as the program continues to grow,” said Dana Souza, Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Greenville. “The Drive is such a positive force in the entire Upstate Region, and we are pleased that their generous support allows so many children to enjoy a happy and healthy lifestyle through baseball.”

The Drive will provide all participants with a complimentary ticket to attend that evening’s game against the Tourists. Participants and fans will be given the opportunity to purchase t-shirts with the Spirit of Boston logo on them for just $10.

Drive Partnering with Ronald McDonald House

One Night One Shirt campaign to help families in need

On Friday, May 9th, the Greenville Drive are partnering with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas for a fantastic cause, One Night One Shirt! That day has been designated by organizations across the Upstate as a casual day, and employees of these organizations who purchase a One Night One Shirt t-shirt for $13.00 will be able to wear the t-shirt to work, and in doing so, they will help sponsor a night at the Ronald McDonald House for a family in need.

In addition, employees who wear the t-shirt will receive a complimentary ticket to the Drive’s game that night at Fluor Field against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
