BlueClaws Baseball Is For Everyone – Team to Host Second Pride Night on June 4th

May 17, 2021

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – BlueClaws baseball is for everyone! That continues to be the team’s message as the BlueClaws prepare for their second Pride Night, to be held on June 4th.

The BlueClaws held their first Pride Night, presented by Coca-Cola, in 2019 in front of a capacity, sold-out crowd at FirstEnergy Park. While their second Pride Night in 2020 was cancelled by the pandemic, the team remains undeterred and excited for Pride Night 2021.

“We consider ourselves to be a very open and inclusive organization and proud member of the community,” said BlueClaws Team President Joe Ricciutti. “We want to show the LGBT community that they are, and always will be, welcome at BlueClaws games!”

“It seems so simple–players should be judged on their athletic ability–not by who they love or how they identify. Unfortunately, the sports world can often be the deepest, darkest place in the closet. That’s why Garden State Equality is proud to partner with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws on their annual Pride Night–an evening that sends a message of positivity to LGBTQ people and their families,” said Christian Fuscarino, executive director of Garden State Equality. You have to imagine how inspiring it is for all those young kids sitting in the stands—who might be gay or transgender—when they look up and see their home team saying: ‘It’s okay to be who you are. We support you.’ That’s life changing.”

Pride Night includes a BlueClaws Pride Night cap giveaway for the first 1,500 fans that will be handed out beginning when the gates open at 6:00 pm. First pitch against the Brooklyn Cyclones, affiliate of the New York Mets, is at 7:05 pm and fans are encouraged to stay for post-game fireworks.

Order Tickets: Order tickets online by clicking here.

The BlueClaws will also be wearing special jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game.

Before the game, the BlueClaws will run a panel discussion with Christian Fuscarino of Garden State Equality and Joe Votruba of NJ 101.5 on the 1,857-square foot video board.

Aziza Callahan, a Garden State Equality member, will sing the National Anthem.

“BlueClaws games are about a fun night out with your friends, family, and colleagues. It’s about relaxing, laughing, and having a great time together. This notion has nothing to do with sexual orientation, race, gender, or economic status. It’s a universal notion of affordable, wholesome entertainment. It’s nice to be able to celebrate that with the community.”

Additional resources will be made available for fans at the game. Those interested in attending the night or partnering with the BlueClaws are encouraged to email [email protected].

Tickets are currently available in reserve seating pods, Lawn pods on the two outfield grass berms, concourse picnic tables, and concourse high-top tables around the ballpark. Tickets to Pride Night and all remaining BlueClaws home games can be purchased at BlueClaws.com.

South Bend Cubs to Honor our Military on Memorial Day Weekend

May 11, 2021

SOUTH BEND, IN – The South Bend Cubs will host Military Appreciation Days at Four Winds Field on Saturday, May 29 and Sunday May 30.

As part of the celebration, the organization is providing a free ticket for all active-duty military and armed forces veterans on either night. Due to capacity restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only 150 tickets will be available for each game. Tickets can be claimed by visiting the Four Winds Field Box Office and showing a military ID card or proof of service.

“While current health and safety guidelines have limited our stadium capacity, it is still important to our organization to honor and recognize those who have fought for our country,” said South Bend Cubs Team President Joe Hart. “These tickets are just a small way we can say thank you to those who gave so much for our country.”

The South Bend Cubs players and coaches will wear a patriotic themed hat both nights. During each game, play will be stopped on the field for the teams and fans to honor all active-duty military and veterans in attendance as well as those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. for both nights. Sunday evening’s game will also feature a military inspired post-game firework show. Due to the limited availability of tickets, service members and veterans are encouraged to pick up their tickets in advance.

The South Bend Cubs and Jordan Automotive Present Teacher Appreciation Night

May 6, 2021

SOUTH BEND, IN – The South Bend Cubs are excited to partner with Jordan Automotive for another Teacher Appreciation Night at Four Winds Field on Wednesday, June 9.

To honor the hard work done by all who work in the education system across Michiana, Jordan Automotive will be offering two complimentary tickets and two ballpark food vouchers to teachers and school administrators to see the South Bend Cubs take on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 7:05 p.m. Each food voucher is good for one hot dog, bag of chips and a fountain soda but only 600 vouchers will be available.

Fans attending the game will be treated to a special Wednesday night fireworks show.

It has been an incredibly challenging time over the last year to be working in education, as classes moved to Zoom and remote learning became ubiquitous. Teachers lost invaluable in-person time with their students, sacrificing and adapting to make sure that kids continued to learn and grow in this new fluid educational environment.

The South Bend Cubs will honor all teachers at the ballpark by asking them to please stand and be recognized by the rest of the crowd during a break in action in the middle of the third inning.

Teachers and administrators can pick up their two complimentary tickets by showing their school ID at the Four Winds Field box office. The box office is open during the week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays when there’s a home game from 10 a.m. until the conclusion of the game.

The South Bend Cubs and Jordan Automotive look forward to honoring all teachers from Michiana for their hard work and dedication with a fun night of baseball at Four Winds Field.

Cardinals Teacher of the Month: Morgan Hooker, Cedar Ridge Primary

April 27, 2021

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield Cardinals and Missouri Lottery are proud to announce Morgan Hooker of Cedar Ridge Primary school in Branson as our final Teacher of the Month winner.

As a preschool teacher, Morgan has faced and met the countless challenges that have come from coupling the importance of early childhood education with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Mrs. Hooker is one of those teachers who was born for her job of imparting life skills and early education to form a solid foundation of knowledge to her students so they can go on and add to their knowledge in later grades,” Morgan’s Teacher of the Month nominator wrote. “She is continuously and tirelessly and energetically prepared for her lesson plans and she always focuses her attention on the care and teaching of her little precious students.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has created new sets of rules and expectations to keep students healthy across the country, but those rules can be especially difficult for a younger child to understand–but Morgan hasn’t let that stop her.

“She teaches a classroom full of young students to be independent and to learn to draw shapes, numbers, letters, sounds and so many other important life skills,” her nominator wrote. “Her students are 3-4 years old and need extreme attention every minute of every school day. She tirelessly does her duties because she truly enjoys her career and teaching the next generation.”

Morgan Hooker with her students at Cedar Ridge Primary in Branson, Mo.

A College of the Ozarks alumni, Morgan has executed numerous safety guidelines while still following through with the lessons that are necessary for young students to grow, placing sanitizer stations around her classroom, having students wash their hands with soap and water upon arrival to school, encouraging masks during recess, nap times and meal times, sanitizing surfaces between uses, encouraging students to only use their own materials, and more.

“She spends extra time preparing for virtual learning by making alternate lesson plans if the school or classroom should ever be shut down due to COVID exposure,” her nominator wrote. “Mrs. Hooker practices Google Meets for when she does virtual learning. Her children and their parents respect and adore her tremendously. We all have a purpose and I truly believe her purpose is to instill knowledge to the next generation. Mrs. Morgan Hooker does a fabulous job.”

To show gratitude for their important contributions to the Southwest Missouri community, Morgan and all of our Teacher of the Month winners will receive one Cardinals luxury suite rental, one ceremonial first pitch, recognition on the Cardinals video board and Cardinals caps for their group, all made possible by Missouri Lottery.

Created as a way to honor local-area educators from all grade levels, the Cardinals Teacher of the Month Award program, presented by Missouri Lottery, is an opportunity for the Southwest Missouri community to shine the spotlight on teachers who are making a difference in the lives of their students during these challenging times.

One hundred percent of Missouri Lottery profits are earmarked for education. In fact, since the Lottery began 35 years ago, it has generated more than $6.5 BILLION for the state and public education.
