Erik Macke to Celebrate “Home Run For Life” Friday

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Dodgers and INTEGRIS continue the 2017 “Home Run for Life” series Friday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark by recognizing Erik Macke, who was involved in a high-speed motorcycle accident that led to a fractured spine, partial paralysis and amputation of his lower left leg.

Originally expected to be confined to a wheelchair, Macke, now 23, has mastered driving, began walking with a prosthetic and arm crutches and also started a successful leathercrafting business.

“Home Run For Life” recognizes individuals in the Oklahoma City community who have overcome a significant medical event with the help of their families, physicians and health care professionals. To symbolize the end of their battle against adversity, honorees take a home run “lap” around the bases during an in-game ceremony.

“We are proud to continue the Home Run For Life Series this season and honor some remarkable individuals in our community who have battled exceptional challenges with their health,” OKC Dodgers President/General Manager Michael Byrnes said. “Their resolve and courage offer great inspiration for us all and we are pleased to join with INTEGRIS to recognize their triumphs.”

Motorcycles were always part of Macke’s life and he started taking long distance trips across the country at age 18.

He was recently married with a daughter on the way in July 2015 when a motorcycle ride changed his life. Macke was involved in an accident and taken to the hospital with a fractured spine and severe damage to his left leg.

He underwent surgery to fuse his spine and his leg had to be amputated above the knee. He remained in the intensive care unit for one week before being moved to Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation at INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center for three weeks of inpatient therapy.

Due to his spinal cord injury, Macke lost all function from his waist down for about six months. He required the assistance of two people to get in and out of bed and to his wheelchair. He also needed assistance sitting up and completing routine daily activities.

Macke worked hard to build his upper body strength and sitting balance and left his first stay at Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation as a wheelchair user in August 2015. Macke continued his hard work, learning how to drive with adaptive hand controls and mastering other daily tasks through numerous hours of outpatient therapy.

A year later, Macke returned to Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation for three weeks to begin inpatient prosthetic therapy. With a new prosthetic leg and the use of forearm crutches, Macke learned to stand and walk.

“Getting to stand tall again was one of the greatest feelings,” Macke said.

Macke said he had a great experience with the staff and care he received at INTEGRIS Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation and now works as a peer mentor there, encouraging young spinal cord injury patients.

“I feel very blessed and thankful for my recovery so far,” Macke said. “I believe a positive mind helps with positive healing. Life’s too short to not be happy all the time. We all have problems going on in life, but if everyone takes a minute and thinks about all the blessings around them then you realize there is nothing to worry about.”

His daughter is now 1 1/2 years old and he and his wife Emily are expecting a baby boy in October.

During his recovery, Macke started a business called Macke Leatherworks and now works fulltime as a leathersmith crafting various leather products such as wallets, belts, purses, keychains and more, selling them both locally and online.

“Leather work was an escape for me through some of the worst times in my recovery,” Macke said. “It has been a great success so far and I can’t thank my customers enough for that.”

The gates open at 6 p.m. and the first 2,000 fans through the gates receive an OKC Dodgers blanket presented by New Amsterdam. Fireworks are scheduled to follow the game presented by Francis Tuttle.

The Dodgers continue their current eight-game homestand tonight at 7:05 against Reno. The teams meet again at 7:05 p.m. on a $2 Thursday, featuring $2 soda, water and beer from a line of Pepsi and Budweiser products.

The Dodgers remain at home through Tuesday, Aug. 1, including a four-game series against the Tacoma Rainiers starting at 7:05 p.m. Saturday in Bricktown.

Muse Machine Named 2017 Community All-Star

The Dragons and Vectren will honor Muse Machine during the unique “Community All-Stars” program on Monday, July 24, at 7:00 p.m. when the Dayton Dragons take on the Burlington Bees at Fifth Third Field.

The Dayton community is a great place to live, work and play. But what makes Dayton truly great are the people that call Dayton home. We have great people and great organizations in our community that do incredible things each and every day. Throughout the season, the Dragons and Vectren will honor five “All-Stars” with a special inning break tribute in recognition of their service.

Muse Machine’s Story

Muse Machine is an arts education organization that uses the arts to enrich the educational experiences of children in 109 schools. The organization was founded by Suzy Bassani in 1982, after she noticed that the audience at most performances in theaters and other similar venues lacked young people

Participating schools receive multiple performances in their schools and discounted tickets to shows in Dayton and around the country. Students at Muse schools have the opportunity to audition for the organization’s productions and to attend workshops with well-known performers. Teachers from Muse-participating schools can attend year-round professional development programs offered by Muse.

Mary Campbell Zopf, the executive director of the organization since 2014, explained that the program always aims for the highest quality of work, while never forgetting about the capacity for arts to bring joy to children. “Muse Machine opens the door to artistic experiences and the power they can have on someone’s life,” said Campbell Zopf.

Later this summer, the Suzy Bassani Theater Off Third will open inside the newly renovated downtown branch of the Dayton Metro Library. This addition will make Muse Machine programming available to local children with a library card, making it easier for kids to get arts-related experiences outside of school.

Initially, the program was part of 22 schools in the Dayton area. Now in its 35th year of existence, Muse Machine serves more than 72,000 preschool through high school students in 12 counties across Central and Western Ohio, and now also in Kentucky. Legends & SAL teams partner with The BairFind Foundation

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) – The Lexington Legends are pleased to announce three missing children, whose status as missing was advertised at Whitaker Bank Ballpark through The BairFind Foundation, have been located and returned home. The BairFind Foundation partners with 153 Minor League Baseball teams to publicize missing children with the hope of locating them as a result. So far this baseball season 224 children have been located across the country. Teams in the South Atlantic League have successfully helped locate over 30 missing children as a result of their participation in the BairFind program, a testament to the passion of our fans for our community.

“The SAL partnership with The BairFind Foundation is a great example of how the Clubs turn the support they receive from their fans into another way to help their communities” said Eric Krupa, South Atlantic League President. “While the act of looking at a sign seems simple, all those eyes on those signs can really help the families whose children are missing. Red Sox Foundation and Pawsox Foundation Partner with Rhode Island Little League to Support all 48 Leagues in the State

The Red Sox Foundation and the PawSox Foundation, the charitable arm of the Pawtucket Red Sox, today announced a partnership to support all 48 Little Leagues throughout the Rhode Island. The relationship will include leadership and instructional skills training for coaches and administrators.

“We are proud to partner with our Triple-A affiliate, Pawtucket Red Sox, to support Rhode Island Little League and expand on the important work the Red Sox Foundation has begun with Boston’s inner city youth through Rookie/RBI programs and Little League teams in Massachusetts,” said Red Sox Foundation Board Member Mike Egan. “As a former little leaguer, I know how important playing the game as a child can be to fostering a lifelong love for the game, and we look forward to helping the league pass along the invaluable lessons about teamwork and camaraderie that baseball imparts.”

The partnership will assist the 48 leagues with production and development, and will include sponsorship of three events: the Rhode Island Little League State Tournament, which opens on Saturday, July 22; the Rhode Island Little League Volunteer of the Year Award, which will be presented in August; and a coaches’ clinic this fall.

“The support of the Red Sox Foundation, PawSox Foundation and its partners on the Rhode Island Little League program is real and tangible,” said Rhode Island Little League Board Member John Pesaturo. “The sponsorship that is available to each league provides them with funding along with opportunities for teams to come to Fenway Park and for some, a special mascot visit to their home town. Chartered Leagues from Providence to Newport are enjoying a new connection as part of Wally’s team thanks to the Red Sox Foundation!”

“As Rhode Island’s professional baseball organization, we are eager to embrace and enhance our support of the Ocean State’s Little Leagues,” said PawSox President Dr. Charles A. Steinberg. “We are continually inspired by the commitment of coaches and administrators who devote so many hours to our children, and we are constantly gratified to see these children learn the lessons of life that baseball can teach.”

The tournament’s opening ceremonies will take place in Johnston, Rhode Island, hosted by Johnston Little League at Kennedy Field at 1583 Hartford Ave. The Volunteer of the Year, a coach selected based on nominations by peers and teams, will be honored at Boston’s Fenway Park on Rhode Island Day, August 1st, and again at Pawtucket’s McCoy Stadium later in the month. Applications were made available by John Pesaturo, Rhode Island Little League, District Administrator, and were due July 3rd. The coaches’ clinic will take place in the fall.

The 48 Rhode Island Little Leagues, comprised of over 1,100 teams and over 16,000 children from ages 5 to 16, allow Rhode Island’s children play baseball and softball, and learn the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and inclusion.

Cougars to Honor First Responders on July 29

GENEVA, Ill. – The Kane County Cougars have announced that they will honor first responders at Northwestern Medicine Field on Saturday, July 29. Tickets are on sale now at kccougars.com or by calling the box office at 630-232-8811.

First responders who wish to attend the game can purchase a buy one, get one free reserved seat ticket deal in person at the Cougars box office beginning today through July 29. Proof of identification must be presented at the time of purchase. There is a limit of 10 tickets per order. Offer is not valid on previously purchased tickets.

In addition, there will be local first responder vehicles displayed outside the gates for fans to admire including patrol cars and fire engines.

For the game, the Cougars will sport limited edition First Responder Night jerseys. One half of the jersey is fire engine red with yellow and orange flames running down the sleeve to represent our heroic firefighters while the other half of the jersey features an armored look to represent the police officers who protect us.

Before the game, St. Charles police officer John Losurdo will throw out a ceremonial first pitch. Officer Losurdo, named the top police officer in Kane County, was presented the 2016 Louis Spuhler Award for his outstanding police work. Additional first responders will be honored throughout the game including an in-game presentation for the Meijer Hometown Hero.

Graduates from the Kane County Sherriff’s Office Junior Deputy Program (JDMP) will also be in attendance and honored on the field. The JDMP helps students between the ages of 14-17 build their self-esteem while providing insight into the professional life of law enforcement officers in an effort to build trust between the Sherriff’s Office and the community.

Other highlights for First Responders Night include a pre-game performance by Beatles tribute band, American English, in the Acres Music Garden from 4:45-6 PM while the always hilarious ZOOperstars! will provide in-game entertainment. Gates will open at 4:30 PM.

Dragons Host Start of Warrior Weekend Thursday

The Dayton Dragons are hosting the opening event of the 2017 Team Fastrax Warrior Weekend to Remember at Fifth Third Field on Thursday, July 20 during their game with the Peoria Chiefs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Dragons fans are already familiar with Team Fastrax, the professional skydiving team that has landed in the outfield carrying the American flag prior to games on multiple occasions. The team is composed primarily of military veterans and four years ago, co-founders John and David Hart decided that they wanted to do more to honor our nation’s heroes. That is when Warrior Weekend came to fruition.

“It is important that we honor and remember our nation’s veterans and the families that have lost their loved ones,” explained co-founder David Hart. “Especially those who have been injured physically and emotionally.”

The mission of the weekend is to honor veterans, combat injured/Purple Heart recipients, and the families of fallen military members by providing life-changing experiences that facilitate new friendships and emotional healing. Each year, over 50 individuals are honored as part of the event.

The Dragons game on Thursday is just the first of several Warrior Weekend events in the Dayton area that are open to the public. Others include a car show, silent auction, balloon festival, and 5k run/walk.

“We invite everyone to come out and join us,” said John Hart, co-founder of the event. “There are many events that the general public can get involved in. Visit our website, attend, and celebrate these amazing men and women.”

Prior to the game, there will be army vehicles, motorcycles from the US Veterans Motorcycle Club, and Muddy Buddys jeeps on the plaza. On the field before the game, the jeeps will take part in a parade around the warning track, skydivers from Team Fastrax will land in center field with the American Flag, and Medal of Honor/Purple Heart Recipient Command Sgt. Drive Announce Bob Hughes as 12th Annual Green Day Honoree

Greenville, SC – The Greenville Drive announced today that Bob Hughes, Chairman of Hughes Development Corporation, has been selected as the honoree for the team’s annual Green Day event. The 12th annual Green Day celebration presented by TD Bank will be held Tuesday, August 1st at Fluor Field when the Drive host the Asheville Tourists at 7:05 PM.

Each year, the Drive pay tribute to an individual who has helped make Greenville one of the most dynamic regions in the country. Hughes has been chosen as the 2017 honoree due to his significant role in the renaissance of Downtown Greenville through real estate and mixed-use development, and he has been one of Greenville’s primary visionaries in the continuing growth of the local community.

“Bob is an individual that has devoted his personal and professional life to making Greenville a very special place – to make Greenville a place of note for its design, its offerings, its opportunities and its energy. San Jose Giants Unveil San Jose Police Department Hat

San Jose, CA– On Friday, July 21, the San Jose Giants will welcome to Municipal Stadium local police officers, fire fighters, EMT’s, and paramedics along with all the brave men and women who serve and protect our community for First Responder’s Night, presented by Alliance Credit Union. During the game, our team will don fire-department-inspired jerseys which fans can bid on with proceeds benefiting the San Jose Fire Department Los Bomberos. Additionally, all first responders who show their badge or ID at the Box Office will receive complimentary admission for themselves and their families.

The San Jose Giants are also proud to announce that they have collaborated with the San Jose Police Department in releasing an all-new, SJPD-themed, On-field New Era 59FIFTY cap for First Responder’s Night. 2017 Nick Adenhart Memorial Scholarship winners

Cedar Rapids, IA – The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Kernels Foundation are pleased to announce Nicole Toppin and Matt Condon as the winners of the 2017 Nick Adenhart Memorial Scholarships. They were recognized in an on-field ceremony before the Kernels game with Peoria on Sunday, July 9th.

Nicole Toppin is a member of the Class of 2017 at Marion High School and plans on attending the University of Iowa and majoring in Business and Spanish. Matt Condon is a member of the Class of 2017 at Linn-Mar High School and plans on attending the University of Iowa and majoring in Business and Sports Management.

Nick Adenhart was a bright young pitcher who played for the Cedar Rapids Kernels in 2006, and was a rising star in the Los Angeles Angels organization. Only hours after Nick’s 2009 season debut on the mound for the Angels, a drunk driver tragically killed him on April 9, 2009 at age 22.

Nick’s family continues to honor him with the awarding of two $1,000 scholarships in his memory. The Kernels Foundation is privileged to administer the scholarships on behalf of Nick’s family.

The Kernels wrap up a seven-game home stand against the Peoria Chiefs on Monday, July 10th at 12:05 PM with the gates opening at 11 AM.

Legends to celebrate the United States Armed Forces July 8!

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) – Honoring the United States Armed Forces is something that the Lexington Legends do every home game in a variety of ways, but there is always one game dedicated to specifically saying “Thank You” to those who have served our country. July 8th is the night the Lexington Legends have reserved as their Military Appreciation Night, which has been celebrated by the organization since their inception in 2001. Military Appreciation Night is presented by LFUCG Department of Environmental Quality.

The night features special ticket offers and discounts for Active Duty and Retired Military as well as Veterans, Armed Forces branch music and recognitions throughout the game, a 20 foot by 30 foot American Flag in the outfield for the National Anthem, Mine-craft inspired digital camo jerseys worn on-field by the Legends players, with those jerseys in a silent auction taking place throughout the game; giving fans the opportunity to take home the special jerseys, the Joe Everson original painting of Iwo Jima (from the July 4th National Anthem) will also be included in the silent auction, and much more. There will be five ceremonial first pitches tossed out by five unique individuals who have bravely served our country in one way or another. First, Colonel Pete Evans, U.S. Army (RET) who has served in Afghanistan, Korea and to the Pentagon. Second pitch will be Mike Niklarz, who is the Director of Kentucky’s National Cemetery Complex, which consists of 9 locations and includes historic Camp Nelson National Cemetery. The Legends third ceremonial first pitch is a 30 year U.S. Air Force veteran and Master Navigator Colonel Mark Roland. Colonel Roland and his wife Barbara are also Gold Star parents-their son, Air Force Captain Matthew Roland paid the ultimate sacrifice August 26, 2015 and was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for gallantry. Gunnery Sergeant James R. Barnett is the fourth ceremonial first pitch, as he has been named “Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year” for the 623rd Field Artillery Battalion, the 38th Field Artillery Brigade, and the Kentucky National Guard for 2017. The fifth and final ceremonial first pitch is 97 year old Captain Helen Horlacher Evans, from Lexington, Kentucky. Captain Helen Horlacher Evans is one of the few remaining female World War II veterans still alive today.

The National Anthem for the July 8 game will feature a 20 foot by 30 foot American flag, unveiled by the assistance of thirty retired military, veterans, military family members, and four Tuskegee Airmen; the first African American Fighter and Bomber Pilots in the United States Armed Forces.

The Legends welcome media for photographs and interviews to help honor and support those who will be recognized at the 2017 Military Appreciation Night game, July 8 with gates opening at 5:30pm and first pitch 6:35pm.

‘The Wall That Heals’ Coming to Werner Park Aug. 3-6

The Wall That Heals, featuring a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C., will be coming to Werner Park from August 3-6. The exhibit, which includes the replica wall and Mobile Education Center, will be presented by Werner Enterprises and open 24 hours a day over the four day span starting on August 3rd.

“Hosting The Wall That Heals at Werner Park in conjunction with Werner Enterprises will be an incredible honor,” said Storm Chasers President and General Manager Martie Cordaro. “We highly encourage everyone in the Omaha Metro to take the time to visit and pay tribute along with us to our servicemen and servicewomen in our Armed Forces.”

Approximately 250 feet long, the memorial wall bears the names of the more than 58,000 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam, while honoring the three million-plus Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War. It will be escorted to Werner Park by local law enforcement on Wednesday, August 2 and on display beginning the following day Thursday, August 3. It will be open 24 hours a day until the evening of August 6, following the Storm Chasers’ Military Appreciation Day contest at Werner Park, with closing ceremonies taking place post-game.

“Taking The Wall That Heals on the road gives thousands more veterans and their family members an opportunity to see The Wall and honor those who have served and sacrificed so much,” said Jim Knotts, president and CEO of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, the nonprofit that built The Wall. “It helps veterans from all of America’s conflicts to find healing and a powerful connection through their common military experiences.”

Friends and family members of those who are honored on the wall are encouraged to bring a photo to the exhibit to be scanned and included in the VVMF’s The Wall of Faces. More details about The Wall That Heal‘s visit to Omaha, including opening ceremonies at Werner Park and the Storm Chasers’ Military Appreciation Day on Sunday, August 6, will be announced later this month.

The Wall That Heals has visited more than 500 communities throughout the nation since its dedication. EL PASO – June 30, 2017 – Army veteran Justin Griffin has been named the winner of the Bank of America Manager for a Day announced the Chihuahuas. Griffin, who was nominated via a social media contest, will fill the role on Sunday, July 2nd during the GECU Independence Day Celebration as the Chihuahuas take on the Reno Aces (Arizona Diamondbacks) at 7:05 p.m.

Griffin’s honor comes in addition to a $10 military offer on Zone E, K, L & Standing Room Only (SRO) tickets as well as the best postgame Fireworks Spectacular in El Paso on July 2nd and July 3rd.

“I can’t even put into words how thankful I am for my amazing wife, wonderful family, friends, and for such a great organization for even making this possible,” Griffin said. “This is truly an honor and a dream come true. I feel like a kid again!”

During Griffin’s 12 years of service he received multiple badges, awards and medals. These include but are not limited to the Combat Action Badge, six Army Accommodation Medals, eight Army Achievement Medals, four Good Conduct Medals, and the Humanitarian Service Medal for his assistance with Hurricane Katrina relief. He was also awarded the Joint Meritorious Unit Citation, U.S. Army Airborne Wings, U.S. Army Air Assault Wings and multiple foreign Parachutist Badges, to name a few.

Following his retirement, Griffin is now a stay at home dad to his two sons, Reece (3), and Bennett (1), and is a loving and devoted husband to his wife Karla.

BANK OF AMERICA MANAGER FOR A DAY FINALISTS

ANTONIO GARCIA: Antonio Garcia served in the United States Army with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky. Garcia was an Aircraft Electrician, working on the UH60 Blackhawk.

During his years of service, he received the Air Medal for Persian Gulf Operations, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (for Persian Gulf Operations), the Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), and the Army Achievement Medal.

DAVID NEVAREZ: David Nevarez served as a Marine from Sept 7 1983 – July 7th 1991 as a Logistics Specialist at various Commands during his time in service. He spent many hours on the flight line and pier side ensuring all Marines and equipment were accounted for.

Nevarez was assigned to 5th Marine Regiment when they were called into Desert Storm and was part of the Logistical Team that assembled the Largest Amphibious Force since the Korean War and served on the USS Tripoli, USS Denver and USS Barbour County. He was part of Regimental Landing Team 5, the Forward Element of 5th Marines during Desert Storm and was assigned to Task Force Papa Bear.

Nevarez received numerous awards including the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Marine Good Conduct Medal with 1 Star, Humanitarian Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), and the National Defense Medal & Combat Action Ribbon.

Nevarez is married to Sandra Nevarez has three children, Adeliade Redding of Jamul, California, and Esteban and Emilio Nevarez.

ROMAN SANDOVAL: Roman Sandoval is an Army Combat Veteran from El Paso. He enlisted in the US Army in 2001 and was stationed at Ft. Bliss as an Automated Logistics Specialist. Sandoval was a member of the 5/52 11th ADA Brigade’s 507th Maintenance Company.

While serving he earned numerous awards including the Unit Soldier of the Month, Battalion Soldier of the Quarter, and Brigade Soldier of the Year nominee, Army Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

The only tour was a deployment for Sandoval was with the 507th to Iraq in 2003 at the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While serving, his unit was ambushed; nine friends and coworkers were killed in action while six others were captured as prisoners of war. He returned safely home.

MICHAEL VELEZ: Michael Velez joined the Marine Corps in September of 2008 and attended the Amphibious Assault Vehicle school and assigned to North Carolina with the 2nd AAV Battalion. Velez was attached to Bravo Company and began doing training for a deployment to Afghanistan. Deployed in December of 2009 to the Helmand Province in Southern Afghanistan, he was part of Operation Moshtarak or also known as “The Battle of Marjah” which was the biggest joint operation in Afghanistan to date.

Velez received numerous awards including the International Security Assistance Force Award (ISAF), a Navy Unit Commendation Award, and a Meritorious Mast given to me by my unit for actions in Afghanistan. He was Honorably Discharged in June of 2012.

ACES TO HOST BABY JAYLIN IN ST. MARY’S “HOME RUN FOR LIFE” CEREMONY

RENO, Nev. – The Reno Aces will host Saint Mary’s “Home Run for Life” ceremony, featuring Dr. Bayo Curry-Winchell, director of Saint Mary’s Urgent Care, and her newborn baby daughter Jaylin, who was born with a rare heart defect. The ceremony will occur on Friday, June 23 when the Aces take on the Tacoma Rainiers at 7:05 p.m. at Greater Nevada Field.

Since 2014, the Aces and Saint Mary’s have been partnered to showcase the “Home Run for Life” program. Once a month, a brave individual in the Northern Nevada community is honored by taking a ceremonial trip around the bases with each team lining the baselines. The ceremony tells the story of a battle against adversity. Individuals honored have overcome or are battling a significant medical event in their life with the help of St. Mary’s personnel.

Anxious for the arrival of a new baby girl to her family, Dr. Curry-Winchell assumed she would be born without any health-related issues, just like her first child. However, shortly after delivery, newborn baby Jaylin received the diagnosis of a rare heart defect that is essentially a “door” between her right to left atrium.

Hearing ‘your daughter has a heart defect’ isn’t something that Dr. Curry-Winchell expected to hear after delivering her second child. Jaylin’s cardiac defect was initially found due to a standard recommendation to evaluate for cardiac disease based on Dr. Curry-Winchell’s history of lupus and a clotting disorder.

A recent follow-up appointment revealed that the defect is still present in Jaylin, which will require additional monitoring. Despite Jaylin’s current condition, life still operates as normal as possible for Dr. Curry-Winchell and her family. She highly advocates individuals to know their family history and obtain health screens based on that information. Because of Jaylin’s diagnosis, she plans to raise both her children to know what it means to be heart-healthy.

Dr. Curry-Winchell and Baby Jaylin will round the bases commemorating her “Home Run for Life” in the middle of the second inning Friday night. The Reno Aces and Tacoma Rainiers players and staff will be lined up along each baseline to greet both of them as they make their way toward home plate while her story of is publicly announced to the stadium crowd.
