Pink Out Night

Tampa, FL. – The Tampa Yankees and The Container Store will team up in the fight against Breast Cancer as they host “Pink Out Night” on Saturday, May 4th, at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Gates open at 5:00pm, and the Tampa Yankees will take on the Clearwater Threshers at 6:00pm. There will be pre-game activities for all fans and a post game fireworks show sponsored by Bright House Networks.

Tampa Yankees players and coaches will be wearing custom made pink jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute. At the conclusion of the game all auction winners will have the opportunity to have their picture taken and jersey signed with the player who wore it.

Tickets for Pink Out Night, as well as future Tampa Yankees games can be purchased at the George M. Steinbrenner Field Box Office or through TicketMaster. Ticket prices start at $4 for General Admission and $6 for Reserved Seating. Family 4-packs are also available for Saturday’s game for $38 and include two passes to Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo.

RiverDogs Introduce “Healthy Challenge Tuesdays”

Charleston-RiverDogsThis season, the RiverDogs, the Class A affiliate of the 27-time World Champion Yankees, introduce the “Healthy Challenge Tuesday” as the club partners with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) to make every Tuesday’s game at The Joe a night that is themed around living a healthier lifestyle.

“Tuesday night games will now be geared toward living and promoting a healthy lifestyle, both physically and mentally,” said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols. “We all can do a better job of taking care of ourselves, and why not start doing it at a baseball game?”

MUSC-logoThe RiverDogs have teamed up with the MUSC Wellness Center to create an entire new line of healthy concessions options available throughout the season, many made from crops grown on the MUSC Urban Farm located in downtown Charleston. Each Tuesday game will feature a different item from these new healthy selections and be offered to fans at a discounted rate.

Additionally, the club’s renowned between-innings promotions will also be health and fitness oriented for Tuesday home games this year. MUSC Wellness staff will be heard from throughout the night on the video board providing quick, simple, healthy lifestyle choices ranging from exercise activities to snack options to general healthy lifestyle tips.

“The MUSC Wellness Center and Healthy Charleston Challenge are excited to partner with the RiverDogs to help promote healthy lifestyle habits for the whole family while enjoying America’s pastime,” said Janis Newton, Assistant Director of the MUSC Wellness Center. “Together we’ll offer families the opportunity to eat healthy and increase physical activity while having fun cheering on the RiverDogs in 2013.”

LAKEWOOD, NJ – As a nutrition-conscious America looks for more healthy menu options when dining out, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and the Lakewood BlueClaws are teaming up to bring smarter eating choices to America’s pastime.

Just in time for the BlueClaws 2013 baseball season, Horizon BCBSNJ is opening a new “Horizon Healthy Plate” concession stand at FirstEnergy Park, where fans at every game will be able to find nutritious alternatives to the traditional ball park fare.

“Good food and family fun are the great staples of a professional baseball game at any of New Jersey’s Minor League ballparks,” said Jonathan Pearson, Director of Corporate Philanthropy and Community Affairs for Horizon BCBSNJ.  “Healthy eating should be a part of the ballpark experience, too. That’s why Horizon BCBSNJ’s pitch to fans is to bring their appetites to the Horizon Healthy Plate concession, where menu options are both nutritious and delicious,” Pearson said.

“Enhancing our ballpark menu to offer a more healthy variety of food is something that we are excited to do this summer,” said BlueClaws General Manager Brandon Marano. “We thank Horizon BCBSNJ for their support and we think our fans will enjoy these new options.”

The Horizon Healthy Plate concession has received the support of the New Jersey Department of Health, which administers ShapingNJ, a public/private partnership for nutrition, physical activity and obesity prevention.

“The New Jersey Department of Health and the ShapingNJ  Partnership are pleased to collaborate with Horizon BCBSNJ to bring healthy concessions to places where our residents enjoy leisure-time activities,” said Peri L. Nearon, MPA,  Director of the Office of Nutrition & Fitness, NJ Department of Health. “It is so important to give families and individuals healthy choices, and to make healthy choices easier  for people to make not only for themselves, but for their children.”

The BlueClaws and Horizon BCBSNJ will officially open the Horizon Healthy Plate concession stand on Thursday night with a ceremony at 5:45 pm, before the 6:35 pm game.

The Horizon Healthy Plate menu was designed by certified dieticians under the direction of Glenn D. Pomerantz, MD, JD, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Horizon BCBSNJ.  The menu includes a long list of popular heart-healthy dining choices, such as a grilled vegetable sandwich, a turkey burger, and frozen yogurt topped with fruit. The  Horizon Healthy Plate menu also includes nutritional alternatives to the traditional ballpark fare, such as a veggie burger, a veggie hot dog and pop chips.  From entrees to appetizers; from side dishes to beverages; each affordably-priced item includes calorie and other nutritional information.

Expo Coincides With Pirates Spring Training Game Versus Minnesota

Bradenton, Fla. – The Pittsburgh Pirates will host a Senior and Caregiver Expo at McKechnie Field on Wednesday, March 27. The expo will run from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., coinciding with the Pirates Spring Training game against the Minnesota Twins. The game begins at 1:05 p.m.

The expo is open to all fans attending the game at no additional cost. The event is presented by Manatee Memorial Hospital and Humana. Local businesses and non-profits that provide services to senior citizens will have exhibitor tables at the event. The first 2,500 fans will receive a free Pirates eco-friendly bag courtesy of the event sponsors.

CARES Outreach Services of Sarasota will conduct free screenings for blood pressure, glucose/diabetes, and HIV in the roundabout outside the main gate. A TOTAL cholesterol screening will also be offered for $5. These screenings are available to the general public. Participants that opt for all four screenings can get their results in 15 minutes or less. In order to get the most accurate results, participants should fast for at least eight hours before the TOTAL cholesterol and two hours for the glucose/diabetes screenings.

Free Distance Vision and Glaucoma screenings will be available from the Eye Associates Sight Mobile outside of the main gate.

The Pirates are accepting exhibitor booth registration for the expo until Friday, March 22. To register a booth at the expo, call 941-747-3031 ext. 4161. All Pirates Spring Training tabling guidelines apply to expo exhibitors.

Pirates Spring Training season ticket holders can exchange any unused tickets for tickets to the Pirates game on Sunday, March 24 and March 27. Exchanges are subject to availability restrictions and must be made in person at the McKechnie Field ticket office. Unused tickets to the Black and Gold Game and the exhibition against Team Spain are not eligible to be exchanged.

Swing For the Cure – Put Your Photo On a Jersey

PEORIA, IL – The Peoria Chiefs and the Illinois Cancer Care Foundation are offering fans the opportunity to put their own image on a jersey number for the specialty jerseys the Chiefs will wear during the Swing for the Cure event on Saturday, May 18.

Fans can send in a photo that will be placed on a number on the back of a jersey in one inch by one inch segments. All submitted photos are guaranteed to be on at least one jersey. The cost to submit a photograph is $25 and every person who submits a photo will be entered into a drawing to win one of the jerseys. The maximum order per person is five photographs. The jerseys will be worn on Saturday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m. as the Chiefs host the Clinton LumberKings. All jerseys will be auctioned off during the game and all proceeds will benefit the Illinois CancerCare foundation.

The May 18 game also features a post-game Fireworks show and a Pitch-In For Charity Tennis Ball Toss which will also benefit the Illinois CancerCare Foundation.

Lexington Legends donations top $800,000 for the 2012 season

The Lexington Legends announced donations for the 2012 season totaling $800,629.43 to a variety of non-profit organizations serving Central Kentucky. The Ivy Walls Charitable Giving Foundation Fund at Bluegrass Community Foundation, in cooperation with the Legends and business sponsors, presented checks to organization representatives today in the Kentucky Ale Taproom at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Ivy Walls Management is a Lexington-based organization that manages the operation of Minor League Baseball teams, including the Legends.

In its 12-year history, the Legends organization has donated more than $11 million to the region.

“It’s a pleasure to work with the representatives of these organizations all year round,” said Legends Director of Community Relations and Special Events Sarah Bosso. “We’re looking forward to another great year in 2013.”

“The Legends have always made community involvement a high priority,” added Legends President/COO Andy Shea. “This event is a nice celebration that brings our business partners together with the organizations that we are proud to support.”

Among organizations receiving funds were:

Autism Society of the Bluegrass: Autism Awareness Night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark was sponsored by Eastern Kentucky University, which purchased special caps worn by Legends players in that night’s game. The caps were auctioned after the game to support the Autism Society.

Boy Scouts of America Bluegrass Council: Sponsored by Windstream, a $25 donation was made to the Boy Scouts for every double or triple by a Legends player during home games.

Bluegrass Military Affairs Coalition (BMAC) Kentucky Wounded Warriors: The Legends supported BMAC with an auction of autographed baseballs and equipment on Military Appreciation Night July 28.

Breast Cancer Research and Awareness: Sleep Outfitters donated five dollars for every strikeout recorded by Legends’ pitchers during home games. The total donated was divided among three organizations: The Pink Connection, which serves breast cancer patients on a personal basis by reducing or eliminating barriers to screening, diagnosis, and treatment; The Markey Cancer Center, established in 1983 as a Comprehensive Cancer Center; and Susan G. Komen For the Cure, the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. The Legends and Sleep Outfitters also hold an annual dinner, with proceeds going to those same three breast cancer charities. In addition, pink jerseys worn by Legends players in that night’s game are sold through a silent auction.

Folds of Honor: For every run the Legends scored at home in 2012, Kentucky Eagle donated $10 to the Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides scholarships and other assistance to spouses and dependents of military personnel who were killed or disabled in military operations.

Kentucky Children’s Hospital: For every stolen base by a Legends’ player during a home game, Insight donated $10 to Kentucky Children’s Hospital, which provides advanced care for children, including specialized emergency transport and Level III Care at the Neonatal ICU.

LexArts: LexArts, Lexington’s cultural development, advocacy and fund raising organization, was a beneficiary of the 2012 Whitaker Insurance Group W.I.G. 5K run/walk held at Whitaker Bank Ballpark August 25.

P.A.W.S.: Sponsored by IncrediPet, two “Bark in the Park” nights were held during the 2012 season, on which dog owners were invited to bring their dogs to a Legends game. The “admission” price for dogs was a donation to the Paris Animal Welfare Society (P.A.W.S.)

Salvation Army: The Whitaker Bank Piggy Bank stationed on the concourse gave Legends’ fans an opportunity to make donations to the Salvation Army.

St. Baldrick’s Foundation: The volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers was another beneficiary of the 2012 Whitaker Insurance Group W.I.G. 5K run/walk held at Whitaker Bank Ballpark August 25.

St. Joseph Hospital Nursing Scholarship Program: At the end of every baseball season, the Legends hold a silent auction for the home jerseys worn during the season with proceeds going to the St. Joseph Hospital Nursing Scholarship Program.

United Way of the Bluegrass: The United Way was the beneficiary of the LexMark Softball Invitational in July. The Legends also worked with United Way on ticket giveaways to United Way donors, listed below.

In-kind donations

The Legends also make substantial in-kind donations throughout the year to many groups and organizations, including a long-standing relationship with United Way of the Bluegrass. Donors to the annual United Way of the Bluegrass campaign receive two free box seat tickets to a Legends home game. In the 2012 season, more than 38,000 box seat tickets were given to United Way donors.

In-kind projects were also associated with YMCA of Central Kentucky, Lexington Clinic, American Diabetes Association, Bluegrass Regional Mental Health/Mental Retardation Board, DanceBlue, a student-run philanthropy at the University of Kentucky, and Hit the Books, a joint effort between the Legends and Chick-Fil-A to encourage Central Kentucky students to read.

Syracuse Chiefs Charitable Foundation, Inc. makes $5,000 donation to Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund

Syracuse-ChiefsThe Syracuse Chiefs Charitable Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)3 corporation, today presented a check in the amount of $5,000 to the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of Central New York.

The donation is the result of a year-long partnership between the two organizations that was highlighted by Breast Cancer Awareness Night on July 20 at Alliance Bank Stadium. The Syracuse Chiefs hosted a “Pink Cocktail Party” fundraiser in the Hank Sauer Room during that evening’s game against the Norfolk Tides. Among the highlights of the cocktail party was a visit from actor Billy Baldwin, who joined his mother Carol M. Baldwin, in thanking Chiefs fans in attendance for their support.

Carol-M-Baldwin-Breast-CancerIn addition, volunteers from the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund also sold breast cancer awareness merchandise, including bracelets, t-shirts, flip-flops, lanyards, and rings, on the main concourse during every Chiefs home game this season.

“We applaud the outstanding efforts of the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund,” said Chiefs General Manager John Simone. “It is an honor to work with one of the premiere non-profit organizations in this area to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research.”

“I would like to thank the Syracuse Chiefs and the Syracuse Chiefs Charitable Foundation for their commitment to finding a cure for breast cancer,” said Elizabeth Baldwin, Executive Director of the Carol M. Donald Driver Charity Softball Game to return to Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium in 2013

GRAND CHUTE, WI – Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium will host the 2013 Donald Driver Charity Softball Game sponsored by Kwik Trip for the sixth straight season. The offense and defense of the Green Bay Packers face each other in a softball game at the newly renovated home of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Sunday, June 16 at 1:05pm.

Driver is the Green Bay Packers all time leading receiver, a Super Bowl champion, Dancing With The Stars Champion, and a multiple time Donald Driver Charity Softball Champion.

“I am excited to host the game again this year. It is a special time for fans and players to enjoy each other while raising money for some wonderful causes,” said Driver. “My wife Betina and I are thankful for the loyal fans who continue to support the Donald Driver Foundation. Hopefully, the defense will put up a bigger challenge to our offense this time.”

A record crowd of 8,745 saw the offense defeat the defense 22-10 in 2012. That game featured a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, by quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Fans may purchase tickets for the game as part of a package starting November 6 at 10:00am. The ticket package includes three Timber Rattlers games and the Donald Driver game:

The game raises money for the Donald Driver Foundation. Donald and Betina Driver started the foundation to help homeless families, to support health and wellness initiatives, and to improve educational opportunities for disadvantaged youth in Wisconsin and nationally.

Patio tables seat four people and include waitstaff service and an autographed item from Donald Driver.

All You Can Eat Seats are available for $80 for the softball game only. These seats are located on the first base side of the stadium, include a ticket to the Donald Driver Charity Softball Game and an all-you-can eat picnic. These seats go on sale November 14.

RiverDogs Staff Raise Funds for American Heart Association

Charleston-RiverDogsThe Lowcountry Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s mission in action. This annual celebration promotes physical activity and heart healthy living in a fun, family and dog friendly environment. There is a Survivor Reception for Cardiovascular & Stroke survivors and their caregivers. More than 5000 walkers are anticipated to participate in this non competitive one or three mile walk event. As our signature fundraising event, the Lowcountry Heart Walk is raising critical dollars for the American Heart Association’s lifesaving mission.

The Charleston RiverDogs front office staff started a Heart Walk team with a collective fundraising goal of $1,500. By the day of the Heart Walk, the RiverDogs staff were able to donate a total of $1,675 for the American Heart Association.

American-Heart-Association-On September 29th, a police-estimated 5,200 people — men and women of all ages and ethnicities — gathered to celebrate survival, “miracles” and raised a projected $650,000 to help more fight the No. 1 killer of Americans, cardiovascular disease and defects. The walk also focuses on lifestyle change to improve heart health.

This year’s Heart Walk chairwoman, Anita Zucker, said the event helps highlight the Heart Association’s goal to reduce deaths from cardiovascular disease and strokes by 20 percent by 2020.

“To reach this goal, we must start in our communities across the nation,” urges Zucker. “Thank you for committing today to stand for positive change in our community. Today is the day we begin to walk more, eat better and live longer.”

(FISHKILL, NY) – The Hudson Valley Renegades will partner with celebrity personal trainer and fitness author Larysa DiDio on Sunday, August 26 to promote the health and well-being of families throughout the Hudson Valley. DiDio will conduct a 30-minute group “feel good” workout for moms, dads and families on the field following the 1 P.M. game at Dutchess Stadium.

“It was a natural partnership,” said Didio. “Baseball provides the perfect medium for helping families and kids get healthier, together.” During the post-game workout, the Renegades will also conduct an on-field kickball game led by Renegades mascot, Rascal.

“The Renegades are excited to partner with Larysa on this event,” expressed Renegades General Manager Eben Yager. “As a family driven organization, we understand the importance of health, fitness and family involvement and believe this a great opportunity to continue fitness education in the ballpark.”

DiDio will be available for a book signing as well as answering fans’ questions on fitness, diet and family. Book signing and meet and greet will begin at 12 P.M. and continuing throughout the game. DiDio will also take over the Renegades Facebook page on Monday, August 20 from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M to expand fitness and health education.

“Fitness on the Field” will take place Sunday, August 26 as the Hudson Valley Renegades take on the Lowell Spinners at Dutchess Stadium. The first 1,000 kids will receive a Renegades backpack courtesy of New York 529 and K104.

Pitch for the Cure Breast Cancer Walk Returns for 2012

The 7th Annual Pitch for the Cure raises money for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

Spokane, WA – The Spokane Indians announced today that their annual Pitch for the Cure Breast Cancer Walk presented by Mike’s Hard Pink Lemonade will return for 2012 on Saturday, August 25th at Avista Stadium. This marks the seventh consecutive year that the Indians and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation have collaborated on the event, with proceeds benefiting the Eastern Washington Chapter of the Komen Foundation.”The Eastern Washington Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is excited about the Pitch for the Cure,” said Executive Director Claudia Bell. “We appreciate the on-going support of the Spokane Indians, who over the last seven years have raised nearly $20,000 for our mission to save lives and end breast cancer forever.”

Check in for the event is at 5:30 p.m. with the walk set to begin at 6:00 p.m. The one mile, flat walk circles around Avista Stadium before finishing on the field, where the participants will be recognized in a special pre-game ceremony. The game against Salem-Keizer begins at 6:30 p.m. as Spokane players will be wearing special pink jerseys that will be auctioned off to support the cause.

The cost for the walk is $25 for adults and $15 for kids 12 and under. Participants receive a technical t-shirt, a donation in their name to the Eastern WA affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and a ticket to the Spokane Indians baseball game that night against Salem-Keizer.

Deadline for registration is Wednesday, August 8th, with a late registration fee of $5. Packet pick-up is scheduled for Friday, August 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Avista Stadium and the day of the walk starting at 5:00 p.m. at Avista Stadium.

In addition to Mike’s Hard Pink Lemonade, supporting sponsors for this year’s Pitch for the Cure include Itron, Pepsi, and Ross Printing. Media sponsors include The Big 99.9 Coyote Country and KXLY 920 AM.

Novo Nordisk presents Changing Diabetes Night

Pawtucket-Red-SoxLast Saturday, July 14th the Pawtucket Red Sox and Novo Nordisk teamed up to present Changing Diabetes Night at McCoy Stadium when the PawSox took on the Buffalo Bisons. Before a bustling crowd of 7,449 Novo Nordisk continued their goal of educating people on the importance of early detection, treatment and prevention of the diabetes disease that afflicts tens of millions of Americans.

To kick things off the reigning Mrs. Rhode Island of the Mrs. America franchise welcomed the crowd with a message from the title sponsor and threw out a ceremonial first pitch. Proudly displaying her ‘blue bull’ t-shirt and tiara, she then took up residence in the Cox Fan Center where she spent some time signing autographs and taking pictures with eager PawSox fans. Novo Nordisk and the American Diabetes Association each set up tables in the Main Gate Entry Tower to greet fans as they entered the stadium and distribute literature.

American-Diabetes-AssociatiEver supportive of non profit organizations, Novo Nordisk agreed before a pitch was even thrown to donate $500 per home run hit by either team that day to the Pawtucket Red Sox Charitable Trust Foundation with the understanding that the half of the final tally would then be given to the Massachusetts American Diabetes Association. If a batter were to hit a HR off of the ‘Changing Diabetes’ sign in left/center field the organization would then donate $5,000 to the PawSox Foundation. While there were two round-trippers hit during the contest, by Buffalo’s Zach Lutz and Pawtucket’s JC Linares, Novo Nordisk doubled their obligated contribution making the total contribution $2,000. Representatives from both organizations will take part in a pre-game check presentation on August 31st.

Syracuse Chiefs to host Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Friday, July 20

Event will raise money for the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of CNY

Syracuse, NY- The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, are proud to announce the club will host its second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night at Alliance Bank Stadium on Friday, July 20, when the Chiefs host the Norfolk Tides. All money raised from the event will be donated to the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of Central New York, which gives $250,000 worth of grants to SUNY Upstate Medical every year for breast cancer research.

All fans are invited to attend a “Pink Cocktail Party” in Alliance Bank Stadium’s Hank Sauer Room with Carol M. Baldwin and her son, actor Billy Baldwin. Admission to the party is $50 per person and includes dinner, a game ticket, and parking pass. The Baldwin mother-son duo will throw out the game’s ceremonial first pitch as well.

“As an organization, we’re glad to support such a worthy cause like the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of Central New York,” Chiefs General Manager John Simone said. “Hopefully, even if it’s only in small way, we can contribute to finding a cure.”

In keeping with the theme of Breast Cancer Awareness Night, Chiefs players and coaches will don pink and black jerseys and hats for the 7:00pm game with the Tides. Some players will also wear pink batting gloves and use pink bats and mitts. Additionally, Alliance Bank Stadium’s Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Awareness merchandise cart will be set up, as it is for every Chiefs home game, to sell Pink bracelets, t-shirts, flip-flops, lanyards, and rings.

“The most important part of the fund is that 100% of the money that we raise locally stays locally and goes to research so that we can find a cure,” said Laurence Segal, a Chiefs employee and Carol M. Baldwin Fund volunteer.

Last year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Night at Alliance Bank Stadium raised $6,000 for breast cancer research. In total, the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of CNY has fundraised more than $7 million for research.

“The Baldwin Family and the Simone Family are coming together with two passions,” said Elizabeth Baldwin, executive director of the fund. “One is baseball and the other is finding the cure for breast cancer, so that together we will find a cure.”

‘Cats Clutch in Breast Cancer Awareness Win

A thriller on the 6th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night saw the Hillcats take their second consecutive game from the Winston-Salem Dash, 7-5. A season-high 4,788 saw Edward Salcedo come through with two clutch hits to give the ‘Cats the lead. Lynchburg closer, Juan Jamie, shut the door with two on in the ninth with back-to-back strikeouts.

It had all the makings of a pitchers’ duel early on at Lynchburg City Stadium. The 6th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night began with both Dash righty Matt Heidenreich and J.R. Graham tossing two no-hit innings. However, the Dash struck first in the top of the third.

Miguel Gonzalez got the game’s first hit with a single under the glove of Hillcats’ shortstop Nick Ahmed. Jake Oester executed a perfect hit-and-run with Gonzalez on the move just one batter later. Gonzalez advanced to third with the league’s hottest hitter due up. Marcus Semien extended his league-best hit streak to 18 games with a single between the third baseman and shortstop, Oester advanced to second base and Gonzalez scored to make it 1-0. Dan Wagner laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Semien to second and Oester to third. The number three prospect in the White Sox organization, Trayce Thompson was up next. He laced a double into the left-center field gap. Both Semien and Oester scored to give the Dash a 3-0 lead. With one out, Hillcats’ third baseman, Edward Salcedo made an amazing play to rob Dan Black of a certain double. A ball was on a line when Salcedo dove to his left in full extension. After making the catch, Salcedo threw from his knees to second baseman Tommy La Stella to get Thompson, who was racing back towards second.

Heidenreich, continued his perfect game bid through four. It wasn’t until the bottom of the fifth that the Hillcats could do any damage. Tim Smith took a pitch off the right shoulder to end the perfect game. Garcia got the first hit off Heidenreich between the first and second baseman to advance Smith to second. Mycal Jones, laid down a bunt intended to be for a hit and it was exactly that down the third base side. The bases were now loaded for Braeden Schlehuber after the Robby Hefflinger strikeout. Schlehuber hammered a double over Brady Shoemaker’s head in left. Smith and Garcia cruised home, but an errant throw by Shoemaker was recognized by Jones at third and he broke for home. Semien gathered the ball and threw home to Gonzalez, but Jones went head first with a hook slide to the back part of the plate. He reached his left hand around and touched home before Gonzalez could get to him. The score was tied 3-3.

A two-run rally would give the Hillcats the lead in the sixth. Smith got his fourth double of the season with two outs. Sacledo came through in the clutch with a single just one batter later to give the ‘Cats their first lead of the game, 4-3.

The Dash answered back in the top of the seventh. Gonzalez hit a slow roller over to Salcedo at third, Salcedo made a running throw, but it was off-target and got past Garcia at first. Gonzalez advanced to second base on Salcedo’s 12th error of the season. Oester was the next batter. He hit a hot shot down the right field side, but it was snagged by a diving Garcia on a hop. Gonzalez advanced to third for Semien. A liner up the middle by Semien scored Gonzalez to tie the game at four.

Lynchburg began the bottom of the eighth with walk to Matt Lipka by Nick McCully. La Stella added a one out single to right, the ball was bobbled by Nick Ciolli, Lipka broke for the third and La Stella broke for second on the Ciolli throw to third; each player was safe. The Dash intentionally walked Smith to load the bases for Salcedo. For the second time in the game, Salcedo came through in the clutch with a single up the middle to score Lipka and give the Hillcats a 5-4 lead. With the bases loaded, Garcia entered the box. He hit a high-chopper over Black at first, Black combined with Semien to get the lead runner, but McCully broke late to first and couldn’t get Garcia in time and dropped the Semien throw. Recognizing the mistake, Smith raced home and scored the second run of the play to give the Hillcats a three run cushion.

Lynchburg brought in the first of its closer duo, Matt Chaffee. The inning started with as solo blast by Michael Early to cut the lead to 7-5. Chaffee walked the next batter before a high fly ball was lost by Lipka in center field. Runners were at first and second for Semien, who tried to sacrifice himself, but couldn’t get the job done and eventually went down with the bunting strikeout. That would be the end of the night for Chaffee and part two of the closer duo, Juan Jamie entered. Wasting no time, Jamie came he challenged the Carlos Sanchez and Trayce Thompson with the gas. Neither could hit it and the Hillcats walked away with a thrilling victory in front of a packed house.

Chasen Shreve improved to 2-0 on the season. He went 1.2 innings, surrendering one and fanning one. Nick McCully fell to 2-2 after giving up three runs–two earned–in just 0.2 of a inning. He also walked two and struck out one. Juan Jaime got his fifth save of the season.

The series finale is slated for 2:05pm. The Hillcat’s will look for their third series sweep of the season. Aaron Northcraft (4-1, 2.12) will look to close out the Dash. Righty Jake Petricka (2-3, 5.63) will try to salvage the series for Winston-Salem. The Faith Night Sunday festivites will begin when the gates open tomorrow at 1:00 pm at Lynchburg City Stadium.
