Iowa Cubs Now Accepting National Anthem Auditions for 2020

Auditions will be held at Principal Park on April 4

The Iowa Cubs are now accepting auditions to perform the National Anthem before a home game in 2020. Live auditions will be held at Principal Park on April 4 from 2:30-4:40 p.m. Participant entrance and registration will be at Gate C.

For the first time, applicants can also submit video files for consideration in lieu of a live audition. Applicants wishing to virtually apply must email Beth at bethk@iowacubs.com with a completed application (download here) and a downloadable video file, or a video link such at YouTube, Google Drive or DropBox. Audio files, tapes, or CDs will not be accepted.

Individual and group vocalists, as well as instrumentalists, are invited to audition. All vocal auditions must be performed a cappella (no musical accompaniment). Performances of the National Anthem are not to exceed two minutes.

The last day to submit 2020 National Anthem auditions is Saturday, April 4. A member of the Iowa Cubs staff will reach out to those who have been selected.

The Iowa Cubs play 70 games at Principal Park in 2020 and will open the home schedule on April 14 at 6:38 p.m. vs. San Antonio.

ValleyCats to Host Job Fair for 2020 Season

TROY, NY – The Tri-City ValleyCats will host their Annual Job Fair at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy on Saturday, March 14 from 10:00am – 12:00pm. The Class A affiliate of the Houston Astros will be holding on the spot interviews for various positions for their 2020 summer season.

Potential employees must be over the age of 15 and have the availability to work during the months of June through September. Applications are available at “The Joe,” or can be filled out in advance by downloading a copy from the ValleyCats website.

Each year the ValleyCats employ approximately 200 summer gameday staff in departments that include food and beverage, stadium operations, box office, merchandise, promotions and production. The ValleyCats 2020 home opener is set for Wednesday, June 24 as the 19th season of Minor League Baseball begins at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy.

National Anthem Tryouts on April 1st at FirstEnergy Park

LAKEWOOD, NJ- The BlueClaws will hold their 2020 National Anthem tryouts on Wednesday, April 1st at FirstEnergy Park. The auditions will run from 5 pm – 7 pm.

All interested participants must fill out an application prior to the audition. Applications can be filled out online by clicking here.

All National Anthem auditions will be performed a capella. Instruments will be permitted, but only those that do not require electricity. Singers can apply individually or as a group.
Groups no larger than three are welcome at the auditions. Those that are interested in performing with larger groups can contact the BlueClaws at 732-901-7000, option 3.

Applications will be reviewed on a first-come-first-served basis and performance times are subject to availability. All applicants will be notified by phone regarding a possible audition, but applicants are not guaranteed an audition.

A decision will not be made the day of the tryout. All who tryout will be notified if they have been selected to perform at FirstEnergy Park for the 2020 season. All judges’ decisions are final.

The BlueClaws are the Jersey Shore’s top stop for affordable, family entertainment. The 2020 season kicks off with Opening Night at FirstEnergy Park on April 16th, presented by Jenkinson’s Boardwalk.

TinCaps Team with Ball State University Class

College Students Gain Real-World Experience in Ticket Sales

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Minor League Baseball is all about development. That applies not only to the players on the field, but on the front office side as well.

With that mission in mind, the Fort Wayne TinCaps annually have partnered with Ball State University’s Sports Administration Program. The program actually predates the TinCaps, going back to 2008, when the team was known as the Fort Wayne Wizards. In a mutually beneficial program, BSU students gain real-world experience by making sales calls to TinCaps fans who’ve attended games in the past.

For students, it’s an immersive learning project that can’t be replicated in a regular classroom setting. Meanwhile, for the TinCaps, the partnership enables the team to keep contact with hundreds of fans during the winter.

“Many sport administration graduates don’t have the opportunity to make any real sales calls until they’re in their first job out of college,” said Paige Watson, TinCaps Director of Ticketing. “This partnership with Ball State gives students a head start in experience while still in school.”

As part of their professional development, students taking “Revenue Generation in Sport” also benefit from the chance to network with TinCaps full-time staff members. Over the years, the program has led to several students earning internships with the team and in some cases, even full-time employment. In fact, Watson was once a student in the class herself.

The 2020 program kicked off on Jan. 17 when this year’s class traveled from Muncie to Parkview Field. Professor Eric Klosterman‘s group toured the award-winning ballpark and also received training from Watson. Over the course of the spring semester, other members of the TinCaps Ticket Office and Ticket Account Management staff will visit the class on campus in Muncie for additional training and oversight.

“We truly appreciate the chance to team up with the TinCaps,” said Klosterman, Ball State’s Assistant Lecturer of Sport Administration and Coordinator of Undergraduate Sport Administration Program. “It’s an invaluable experience for our students to work with a professional organization. That the TinCaps are a first-class operation and one of the top franchises in all of minor league sports just makes it that much more impactful. TinCaps staff members go out of their way to make sure this is a meaningful experience for students.”

“As a student, this class not only helped me gain experience that was applicable to work after college,” Watson said. “But it also helped me become more familiar with the organization and the front office staff here, eventually leading to my full-time employment with the team.”

Watson is one of six Ball State alums currently on the full-time staff for the TinCaps.

“We’re grateful to have this partnership with Ball State,” TinCaps President Mike Nutter said. “Just about everyone working in this industry had guidance from professionals at some point as they were coming up. We’re glad to be able to pay it forward to BSU’s students and at the same time, we appreciate the help they’re providing us in return. It’s a credit to everyone involved in the program that it has produced interns and full-time employees for us in the past and we hope that trend continues for many years to come.”

RiverDogs Set to Host 15th Annual Charity Golf Tournament

Even when the team is on the road, the Charleston RiverDogs aren’t opposed to throwing a party, especially when it benefits a good cause. Under the theme of “Cinco de Mayo Fiesta,” the RiverDogs will host their 15th annual charity golf tournament at the Wild Dunes Harbor Golf Course on Tuesday, May 5.

Presented by Container Maintenance, this year’s event will provide an afternoon filled with golf and networking. A portion of the proceeds will benefit MUSC Children’s Health.
“We are looking forward to another great golf outing at Wild Dunes. It will be a fun way to spend an afternoon celebrating Cinco de Mayo and, at the same time, supporting a great cause,” said RiverDogs Director of Special Events, Lisa Dingman.

The event begins with an 11:00 a.m. shotgun start, and limited space is available. Foursomes can reserve a spot for $650 and individuals may register for $175. Sponsorship opportunities for the event begin at $400.

The afternoon will feature costume contests, celebrity appearances and plenty of chances to win prizes. The Cinco de Mayo theme also relates to the RiverDogs continued participation in Minor League Baseball’s Copa de la Diversión initiative. The club will once again take the field as “Los Perros Santos” for four home games during the 2020 campaign. Lunch and dinner are included with lunch being provided by The Kickin’ Chicken.

Sod Poodles Announce Reading Program Presented by Kumon

The Amarillo Sod Poodles announced today the launch of their brand-new reading program presented by Kumon Math and Reading Center of Amarillo.

The program’s mission is to help promote literacy and education among local Amarillo and Canyon students by providing incentives when they reach specific goals. The program is completely free for participating schools and is set to impact approximately 9,000 students in Amarillo and Canyon school districts in levels K-7.

Intended as a five-week program, students are encouraged to “complete a game” by reading nine books that are appropriate to their particular level of reading comprehension.

Like a baseball game, the program is divided into a nine-inning format. For every book a student finishes, they complete an inning. After the first three innings are completed and he/she moves on to innings four through eight, the students earn incentives from program sponsors including Whataburger, Cinergy, McDonald’s, Sonic, and Gatti’s.

After a student finishes the ninth (final) inning, they receive a free voucher for a Sod Poodles game and are entered in a drawing to win a prize on behalf of Kumon Math and Reading Center of Amarillo.

All materials for the free reading program will be provided and delivered to schools by the Amarillo Sod Poodles. The program is scheduled to run from March 2 to April 3.

To kick off the program, Sod Poodles team mascot RUCKUS will be attending school assemblies to promote the program and get students excited.

Spring Fan Fest, Anthem Auditions to be Held March 7

The Durham Bulls will host their 2020 Fan Fest on Saturday, March 7 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The free event provides fans a chance to take batting practice on the field and purchase single-game tickets for the 2020 season. Additionally, National Anthem auditions will take place at the DBAP the morning of March 7 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

The event will feature a free raffle for all fans in attendance, with grand prizes such as Bulls merchandise. Each fan in attendance will be given a raffle ticket upon arrival. Fans can earn more raffle tickets throughout the event in several ways, such as purchasing individual game tickets and packages along with retail purchases. Winners will be selected every 30 minutes, and the individual must be present to win.

Two batting practice sessions will be held at the event. All attendees 13 and older wishing to hit on the field will be able to line up from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., and all fans 12 and under wishing to take batting practice may line up from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Each participant will get 3-5 pitches only. Guests will be required to sign a waiver to participate. Waivers are available here for completion prior to Fan Fest. Please print, complete and bring with you for Spring Fan Fest.

The team’s ticket representatives will be available to showcase available 919 Club member seating locations, and the Mako Medical Box Office will be open at 12:00 p.m. to provide fans an opportunity to purchase single-game tickets. 919 Club members in attendance will be granted access to the PNC Triangle Club 30 minutes prior to the event to pick up their membership package and giveaways. In addition to 919 Club packages and single-game tickets, a special Fan Fest Pack will be available only on March 7. Fans eager to secure single-game tickets for the 2020 season can do so beginning Monday, March 2 in an online-only sale, and tickets will become available by phone and in-person at the DBAP beginning March 7.

National Anthem auditions will also take place at the DBAP the morning of March 7 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. for individuals wishing to perform the Star-Spangled Banner at a Bulls game in 2020. Performers who arrive after 8:30 a.m. will not be permitted to audition. Performers will have one minute and 30 seconds to perform the anthem, and lyrics must be memorized and performed in a traditional style.

Participants for anthem auditions may enter through the ballpark’s left field gate and register upon arrival to perform on a first-come, first-sing basis. Singers may leave at the completion of their audition and will be contacted at a later date as the Bulls choose those who will perform at limited, select dates during the 2020 season.

Deadline Approaching for OKC Dodgers Rookie League Registration

OKLAHOMA CITY – The deadline is quickly approaching for area youth baseball players to sign up to participate in the 2020 season of the Oklahoma City Dodgers Rookie League, as registration concludes Monday for the league’s upcoming third year.

The youth baseball league formed in 2018 in partnership with Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation to increase youth baseball participation in the community, as well as foster an environment that emphasizes leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship. The OKC Dodgers helped provide resources and reduce costs in order to make baseball more accessible to area youth.

The league consists of four baseball divisions to accommodate boys and girls in multiple skill levels and age groups. Teams compete in divisions of 4U T-Ball, 6U T-Ball, 8U Coach Pitch and 10U Kid Pitch.

“Through the Rookie League, we are directly impacting the Oklahoma City community by providing opportunities for area youth to participate in baseball and to help grow the game we know and love,” OKC Dodgers President/General Manager Michael Byrnes said. “We are proud to partner with OKC Parks and Rec to help our youth learn valuable lessons such as teamwork and sportsmanship, while having fun and being active. The Rookie League continues to expand each year and we look forward to opening the 2020 season soon.”

The OKC Dodgers Rookie League has already experienced substantial growth. After starting with more than 200 players in 2018, participation quickly grew by 40 percent in 2019 during the league’s second season. Rookie League players hailed from throughout Oklahoma City last season, representing 52 of the 74 zip codes in the metro area. More than 300 players have already registered for the league’s third season.

Registration fees for 4U and 6U participants are $35 and for 8U and 10U participants are $55 to help cover operation expenses such as umpires and field maintenance. The OKC Dodgers provide jerseys, hats, belts and equipment for each team.

Practices will be held once per week starting March 23. The OKC Dodgers Rookie League season schedule consists of seven games played at Wheeler Park, located at 1120 S. Western Ave. in Oklahoma City. Game play begins April 4 and runs through June 13.

An on-field parade for OKC Dodgers Rookie League participants will be held prior to an OKC Dodgers game at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in May and closing ceremonies will take place at the ballpark in June.

April 19, 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing and the OKC Dodgers recently announced that the No. 19 will be retired in the OKC Dodgers Rookie League to honor the number of children lost in the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombing in 1995. No Rookie League participant will ever wear the No. 19 and a memorial display will be placed at Wheeler Park. The OKC Dodgers also recently announced the retirement of the No. 168 to signify the number of total lives lost in the Oklahoma City bombing. The team will place the retired No. 168 next to the currently retired Nos. 1 and 42 along the left field wall at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Wings celebrate Negro Leagues 100th Anniversary June 19

The Rochester Red Wings are joining Minor League Baseball in celebrating the 100th anniversary of Negro Leagues baseball on Friday, June 19 at Frontier Field.

The Rochester American Giants – a minor league team affiliated with the Negro Leagues – called the Flower City home in the 1940’s. The Wings will honor that team by wearing replica jerseys. The jerseys will be auctioned off using the LiveSource mobile app with proceeds benefitting the “They Stepped Up To The Plate” Foundation – a local non-profit led by Honeoye Falls resident Jeff Klein and his family whose mission is to spread the stories of former Negro League players.

“We look forward to the opportunity to educate and inform our fans about the Rochester American Giants and many of the other great players and teams from the Negro Leagues as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Negro Leagues,” said Red Wings General Manager Dan Mason. “Our fans will have the incredible opportunity to meet and hear from some former Negro League Players as well as check out an incredible traveling display of Negro League photos and artifacts. We are fortunate to be working with Jeff Klein and his family on this event and we look forward to helping raise some funding for the ‘They Stepped Up to the Plate’ Foundation so that they can continue to educate fans in our community about these great men who played in the Negro Leagues.”

The night will also feature appearances from Ernest Fann, who was a catcher for the Raleigh Tigers, and Ike Walker, a Rochester resident who was a catcher on the 1963 Satchel Paige All-Star Team. Both men will be available on the Frontier Field concourse before the game for a meet-and-greet and will take part in a pre-game interview on the field.

The discussion will also include Sean Gibson – the great grandson of Josh Gibson, one of the most prolific Negro League players of all time. Sean is the executive director of the Josh Gibson Foundation and will have a traveling Negro Leagues display that will be available for fans to check out on the concourse during the game.

The night will conclude with a post-game fireworks show.

Power hosting annual Job Fair on Saturday

Anyone ages 16 and up can apply for a multitude of gameday positions for the 2020 season

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (February 22, 2020) – The West Virginia Power will host their annual Job Fair on Saturday, February 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Appalachian Power Park. All prospective employees ages 16 and older that are interested in applying for gameday employment opportunities are encouraged to attend this year’s hiring event.

For the 2020 season, the Power has gameday job openings in the following categories: Camera Operators, Concessions, Grounds Crew, Mascot, Production, Promotions, Suite Attendants, Ticket Takers and Ushers. Please note that these positions are only required to work during each of the Power’s 70 home games.

Anyone interested in applying should bring their resume and a list of their schedule availability for the 2020 season, as well as be prepared for an on-site interview during the Job Fair.

National Anthem tryouts will not be held at the Job Fair as in years past. The Power will release the details for National Anthem tryouts at a later date.

Annual Job Fair Rescheduled for Thursday, February 27 at Five County Stadium

ZEBULON, N.C. – Due to the threat of inclement weather, the Mudcats today announced that the club’s job fair originally scheduled for Thursday, February 20 has been postponed to Thursday, February 27. The newly rescheduled job fair will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. inside Cattails Restaurant at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C.

Interested job seekers ages 16 and over wishing to work for the Mudcats are highly encouraged to attend the event. The Mudcats also encourage applicants to download, print and submit the employment application form available online at carolinamudcats.com.

Through the job fair, the Mudcats will look to fill multiple positions across various departments including stadium operations, box office, bat boys, on-field entertainment, concessions and game operations. Interviews will take place inside Cattails at Five County Stadium and are conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. The Mudcats will celebrate 30 years of baseball in North Carolina when they begin the upcoming 2020 season by hosting the Winston-Salem Dash on Thursday, April 9 at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, NC.

Season ticket packages, group ticket packages, the latest mini plans and individual game tickets for the upcoming 2020 season are all available now by visiting the Five County Stadium front office in Zebulon, by calling (919) 269-CATS (2287) and by visiting carolinamudcats.com.

National Anthem Tryouts Set for Saturday, February 22

DAYTON, OHIO – A traditional sign that baseball season is just around the corner in the Miami Valley is National Anthem Tryouts, presented by the Dayton Daily News. Tryouts for national anthem performers for the 2020 season will take place on Saturday, February 22 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Mall at Fairfield Commons.

Finalists will perform the national anthem at Dragons games throughout the season, with the grand prize winner performing on Opening Day 2020 before the Dragons host the Great Lakes Loons on Thursday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m.

While all time slots have been filled with performers who registered at DaytonDragons.com, there are still opportunities to perform at the tryouts on a stand-by basis.
To register as a stand-by performer, you must come to the Saturday, February 22 tryouts at the Mall at Fairfield Commons. You will receive a stand-by number that will be called when a spot becomes available. Standby performers are not guaranteed a chance to tryout.

A panel of local citizens including media personalities, city officials, and community leaders will be judging the event. The panel will make its selections based on voice quality, creative style, stage presence, and appearance.

The Dragons Green Team as well as mascots Heater and Gem will entertain fans throughout the auditions at the Mall at Fairfield Commons on Saturday.

SeaWolves to Hold Auditions for National Anthem, Public Address Announcers and On-Field Emcees

The SeaWolves will hold open auditions on Saturday, March 14 for National Anthem singers, public address announcers, and on-field emcees. Auditions will be held at the Center Court stage in the Millcreek Mall from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Interested parties will register and audition on the spot. Tryouts will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

NATIONAL ANTHEM SINGERS
Singers will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” a cappella (without music) and must complete their audition within a 90-second time frame. Solo performances and ensemble auditions are encouraged. There is no age requirement, but performers must be comfortable singing in a stadium environment. No CDs, tapes, emails or digital submissions will be accepted. Those auditioning are encouraged to review the SeaWolves’ game schedule and identify their availability throughout the season.

PUBLIC ADDRESS ANNOUNCER
The team is seeking one to two individuals to serve as the in-stadium public address voice(s) of UPMC Park for all 70 SeaWolves home games. PA Announcer duties include introducing starting lineups, batters and defensive changes, delivering promotional scripts and improvisational contests, and other duties as assigned. The PA Announcer works closely with the Director of Entertainment to create a fan-friendly and enjoyable experience at UPMC Park. Those auditioning will each read a variety of game day scripts and announce the SeaWolves lineup. Qualifications for this seasonal, game-day position include:

  • Strong vocal talent
  • A unique and definitive personality
  • Execute pre-game, in-game and post-game scripts and player introductions
  • Comfort speaking into a microphone in the control room to a large audience
  • Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and an effective communicator
  • Must possess the ability to think quickly based on game situations and improvise when needed
  • Demonstrate professionalism and comfort while announcing complex names
  • Strong knowledge of baseball rules and positions

ON-FIELD EMCEE
The team is seeking one to two individuals to serve as on-field hosts at UPMC Park for all 70 SeaWolves home games. On-field emcees are responsible for fan engagement during pre-game, in-game and post-game promotions on a nightly basis. The emcee(s) will work closely with the Director of Entertainment and the Wolf Pack Entertainment team. Those auditioning will host a mock in-game contest and read sample promotional scripts. Qualifications for this seasonal, game-day position include:

  • The ability to execute pre-game, in-game and post-game promotions
  • Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and an effective communicator
  • Comfort and poise using a hand-held microphone to speak in front of a large audience
  • Must possess the ability to think quickly based on game situations and improvise as needed
  • Must possess effective interpersonal communication skills for fan engagement
  • Must have a basic understanding of baseball and adhere to MiLB game operations requirements

The SeaWolves open the 2020 season on Thursday, April 9 at the Altoona Curve (Pirates). Opening Night at UPMC Park, presented by Plyler Entry Systems, is Thursday, April 16 at 6:05 p.m. against the Altoona Curve. Ticket packages and hospitality outings are available now by calling 814-456-1300.

SMOKIES HOST SECOND JOB FAIR AT SMOKIES STADIUM

SEVIERVILLE – The Tennessee Smokies have announced that the club will be hosting a second Job Fair at Smokies Stadium on Saturday, March 7 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. When arriving at the stadium, please enter at the Restaurant located on the left-hand side of the stadium.

The job fair will feature positions from many departments with part-time and seasonal positions within Smokies Stadium. The Tennessee Smokies are looking for employees who are able to work all home games and additional events as needed inside Smokies Stadium. Most games are held during evening hours of the week and many weekends.

Available departments include new hires for food and beverage, ticketing, production, promotions, merchandise, and stadium operations.

Food and Beverage is looking to fill positions for cooks, cashiers, runners, servers, picnic attendants, and group area attendants. Other available positions in the Restaurant include cooks, servers, bartenders, and hosts.

Ticketing is looking to fill positions for ticket takers and ticket sellers.

Promotions and Production are looking to fill positions for mascots, rally crew promotion team members, camera operators, and press box personnel.

Merchandise is looking to fill team store representatives.

Stadium Operations is looking for fill positions in first aid, ushers, bat boys, and kid zone attendants.

Most Smokies Stadium positions require a person to stand and walk for extended periods of time, as well as run, sit, navigate stairs, kneel or crouch. Prospective employees may also be asked to occasionally lift and/or move up to approximately 25 pounds and be exposed to various weather conditions and noise levels.

Potential employees will be asked to fill out their top three job choices on their interview questionnaire, which will be provided at the job fair. All persons seeking employment may not be able to work in their area of choice, as jobs will be offered by strength of application and/or resume.

The Smokies will commence their 2020 home opener against the Chattanooga Lookouts on Wednesday, April 15, 2020. Season ticket information can be found online at smokiesbaseball.com, or by calling the Smokies Ticket Office at 865-286-2300.
