Wings, County announce Covid-19 Vaccine Clinic at Frontier Field

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello and Rochester Red Wings President & CEO Naomi Silver are excited to announce that Frontier Field will host a pop-up COVID-19 vaccine clinic on Saturday, April 24 from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. As an incentive, those who get their vaccine at Frontier Field on Saturday will receive a coupon good for a hot dog when they come to a Red Wings game this season.

“Summer nights at Frontier Field are a Monroe County tradition that residents and families missed out on in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the Red Wings anticipated return on the horizon, now is the time to get your COVID-19 vaccine and ensure you’re able to catch a game at Frontier Field this season,” said Bello. “Vaccination is key to returning to normalcy and enjoying the things we love most about the summer months in Monroe County. We can all end this together, and it starts with the simple act of getting your COVID-19 vaccine.”

“I want to thank County Executive Bello and his staff for arranging this vaccination clinic to be held at Frontier Field. This is a great service to both our fans and employees who recognize the need for the safety the vaccine provides. Proof of vaccination will be the simplest way to gain access to games and other events at Frontier Field, and the more fans – and others – who are vaccinated, the safer we will all be in our community and beyond,” added Silver. “Please get vaccinated and come to a game! Let’s get our lives back to normal! I’d like to see our community be a leader in the effort to get to herd immunity.”

The COVID-19 vaccine is FREE to anyone, regardless of health insurance or coverage. This clinic will offer first-dose Pfizer vaccine, which is approved for anyone 16 years of age and older. Appointments will be required for this vaccine clinic and can be made on the Monroe County scheduling website, https://www.monroecounty.gov/health-covid19-vaccine, or by calling the Monroe County COVID-19 hotline at (585) 753-5555. Second-dose Pfizer appointments for anyone attending this clinic will be held on Saturday, May 15 at the same time as your first-dose appointment.

The Rochester Red Wings are slated to make their long-awaited return to Frontier Field on May 18, 2021, with an extended home stand until May 30. The Red Wings will then have another extended home stand from June 15 – June 27.

Under New York State COVID-19 guidelines, fans will have to present proof of full COVID-19 vaccination OR a recent negative COVID-19 test in order to attend outdoor professional sporting events, including Rochester Red Wing games at Frontier Field. Anyone vaccinated at through this weekend’s clinic will be eligible to attend games at Frontier Field starting May 29 under the full vaccination guidelines, meaning no COVID-19 test will be required.

BlueClaws, RWJBarnabas Health Partner on May 10th Blood Drive

JERSEY SHORE, NJ – The BlueClaws and RWJBarnabas Health will partner on a special blood drive to be held at FirstEnergy Park on Monday, May 10th from 11:30 am – 5:30 pm.

Registration is strongly encouraged and can be made by clicking here or calling 732-235-8100 ext 221 or 248. There is limited availability within each 15-minute time slot to ensure social distancing protocols will be followed.

All donors are instructed to eat and drink prior to the donation and to bring a photo ID. Masks or cloth face coverings are required for entry. Those that have been exposed to or cared for a positive COVID-19 patient within 28 days prior to the drive are not eligible to donate.

A screening will take place on the ground level before donors enter the lobby outside the ballpark.

All donors will receive two complimentary BlueClaws tickets and a commemorative t-shirt. Donors will also be entered to win a BlueClaws VIP experience for 20 that includes a night in a Luxury Suite, and 20 boardwalk and mini golf passes.

The BlueClaws are the Jersey Shore’s top stop for affordable, family entertainment.

M-Braves to continue $5 Ticket Program for military, veterans and first responders

PEARL – The Mississippi Braves are proud to announce the continuation of a program that offers discounted tickets to our local first responders, military, and veterans. All members and veterans of all branches of the U.S. military and first responders/emergency personnel will receive $5 Diamond Level tickets ($10 discount) to all Mississippi Braves home games in 2021 when presenting a valid ID at the box office. This expanded discount on tickets for all home games at Trustmark Park to our local heroes is an extension of AMR First Responders Day each Wednesday, in which a complimentary Field Level ticket is offered.

“The M-Braves want to say thank you to all members of our armed forces and first responders/emergency personnel for their service and sacrifice,” said Mississippi Braves Vice President and General Manager Pete Laven. “Recognizing these exemplary citizens by providing them a fun ballpark experience is something which the Braves and AMR are very proud of. Couch Oil Cares Scholarship Program

The Couch Oil Cares Scholarship Program was established in 2015 in an effort to help defray the rising costs of higher education. Again this year, Couch Oil Company is teaming up with the Durham Bulls to award scholarships to six deserving students. This $1,000 scholarship is available to students who have been accepted into either a four-year or community college and reside in a 16-county area surrounding the Triangle.

Indy RBI Ready for Successful 2021 Season

Back in the early 1980s, Mike Lennox was experiencing instability in his line of work. Out of college, Lennox worked in the radio business bouncing from station to station, but it did not provide a stable life at home. In his twenties at the time and newly engaged, Lennox transitioned into public relations and marketing work, landing his first job off the airwaves with the Indiana Department of Commerce in its Tourism Development Division. He was a supportive team member for its Wander Indiana campaign that promoted tourism opportunities for the entire state, but the gig still left him unfulfilled.

In the late 80s, Lennox joined the Family Service Association of Indianapolis as its director of development, and it was there where he found his calling. He attended an intense 7-day fundraising course through The Fund Raising School, which is now part of the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, and was mesmerized.

“This is it,” Lennox, the current Executive Director at Indy RBI, remembered thinking at the time. “I quickly learned that I wanted to help raise money for the less fortunate, but the right opportunity just wasn’t there for me yet.”

Insert Milt Thompson, an active member on the Indianapolis Indians Board of Directors. Lennox gives Thompson, who attended the same church as him and became a close friend, a ton of credit for getting him to where he is today.

“Milt knew I wasn’t happy with the work I had been doing, so he told me one day, ‘I’ve got a job for you if you want it.’” Lennox said.

The offer was to help run an inner-city baseball program called the Indiana Amateur Baseball Association, a nonprofit Thompson had originally founded in 1982. Lennox received the offer in March 1996. He accepted, but soon after he experienced one of the biggest hurdles he would have to overcome.

“I went to Lilly Endowment and asked for a $100,000 grant to help get IABA off its feet again. It felt like we were shooting for the moon and this was a make-or-break situation,” Lennox recalled. “Once we received that contribution, we hit the ground running.”

Still in his first year, Lennox was part of IABA’s request to join Major League Baseball’s Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) initiative. It didn’t take long for that approval, and the positive impact on inner-city youth and families – providing every kid the chance to play baseball or softball each summer – has since been noticeable.

“Every kid is given the chance to play, but it’s not just the kids who benefit from our Indy RBI program… truthfully, the parents and mentors to these student-athletes learn a lot about themselves every summer,” Lennox said. “[The parents] grow as individuals and realize that our leagues are not focused on the winning and losing, but rather on the idea of creating major league citizens. We practice good sportsmanship, teamwork, and try to foster positive off-the-field behavior.”

In a normal year, Indy RBI has nearly 2,000 participants in youth baseball and softball for various age groups. Teams play mostly at Forest Manor Park, Rhodius Park, Christian Park and Garfield Park, with many Indianapolis Public School (IPS) and charter school fields used for the older divisions. However, 35% of those approximate 2,000 ballplayers are unable to cover the $25 registration fee, which equates to nearly $15,000 in registration costs covered by Indy RBI alone each summer. That is where partners like Indianapolis Indians Charities, or individuals in the community, have and still can step up to the plate.

Now in his 25th year with Indy RBI, Lennox understands that the organization’s successes aren’t possible without great partners like Indianapolis Indians Charities.

“We were at a disadvantage for years because we do not have a major league team [in Indianapolis],” he said. “The RBI programs in Chicago, Cincinnati, St. Louis, any city with a major league team, they are funded six figures by those clubs. Fortunately for us, four or five years ago, the Indianapolis Indians increased their support to us to help cover registration fees, uniform costs, field projects and umpire dues.”

And the relationship has only strengthened from there.

Indianapolis Indians Charities recently made a three-year commitment of $300,000 to cover team sponsorships, events and league programming. Also, in partnership with the Indianapolis Parks Department, Indians staff has committed itself to spending Indy Do Day renovating a city park diamond that will be used by Indy RBI and other inner-city schools. In years’ past, staff has volunteered renovating fields at Forest Manor Park and Manual High School. Further, internal work by Indians staff to rework Indy RBI’s website and social channels has not gone unnoticed by Lennox, either.

“Everything Indianapolis Indians Charities and the Indians staff has done over the last couple years has been nothing short of amazing,” he said.

With a season that begins in early May and wraps up with Indy RBI hosting a regional in mid-July, the 2021 season will come and go in the blink of an eye, meaning the time to act – and support – is now.

A $25 donation will cover the registration fee for one player while a donation of $300 will cover the costs associated with sponsoring an entire team. For those wanting to possibly coach an Indy RBI team or umpire baseball and softball games, email [email protected]. Any volunteer work or monetary donation is of great value to Lennox and his team. After all, Indy RBI has served over 25,000 boys and girls ages 3-18 since 1996, and momentum is picking up as teams are filled and added for the 2021 season.

“We will never turn a child away who wants to play ball,” Lennox said. “We want them to learn fair team play, become major league citizens and enjoy [baseball or softball] their entire lives.”

On top of its support to Indy RBI, IIC also has existing partnerships with the Indy Flames and Indy Thunder.

The Flames participate in Alternative Baseball™, which provides a traditional baseball experience to those with autism and other disabilities, ages 15 and up. The program was founded in Dallas, Ga. by a young man on the autism spectrum. His goal was to develop physical and social skills in an environment where players will be accepted for who they are, encouraged to be the best version of themselves, and instilled with confidence to fulfill their dreams on and off the field. Charitable Tuesdays Return in 2021

Again this season, the Williamsport Crosscutters will present Charitable Tuesdays. The program, presented by Pennsylvania Skill by Miele Manufacturing, gives local non-profit organizations a no-cost opportunity to have a presence at Historic Bowman Field, for the purpose of educating fans about their organization.

One organization will be featured at each of the Cutters six Tuesday home games and receive;

  • A display table in the stadium to display and distribute promotional literature and materials
  • A live on-field interview before the game
  • Ceremonial 1st pitch honors for the organization
  • A $500 donation to the non-profit courtesy of Pennsylvania Skill by Miele Manufacturing and the Crosscutters, presented during an on-field ceremony

RubberDucks Mascot Auditions To Take Place By Appointment Ahead Of 2021 Season

(AKRON, OHIO) April 14, 2021 – Have you ever wanted to bring fun to the fans at Canal Park? Then being a RubberDucks mascot might be for you! The Akron RubberDucks are searching for performers to play the four mascots, Webster, Rubberta, Homer, and Orbit during RubberDucks home games for the 2021 season.

All interested candidates can send their resumé to [email protected], and they will be contacted by a RubberDucks staff member to coordinate an in-person, socially-distanced audition appointment at Canal Park.

The deadline to apply for a position as a RubberDucks mascot is Friday, April 30. Candidates are encouraged to send in their resumés early due to expected high interest and performers will be selected on a rolling basis as we get closer to the RubberDucks home opener May 4.

St. Lucie Mets Community Market Coming April 25th

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (April 14, 2021) – The St. Lucie Mets are excited to announce the launch of the St. Lucie Mets Community Market.

The mission of the St. Lucie Mets Community Market is to promote and support regional artists, crafters and food vendors by providing a viable and productive market place where local producers can create mutually beneficial interactions with area residents and visitors. Annual Cutters 5K Race Set for June 12

The Williamsport Crosscutters, in partnership with Hope Enterprises, will be holding the Annual Cutters 5K on Saturday, June 12 at Historic Bowman Field sponsored in part by; Hamilton Patriot, Horizon FCU, iHeart Media, Lamar, Muncy Bank & Trust, Williamsport Sun-Gazette, & Woodlands Bank.

The race, through Williamsport’s West End, begins at 9am with registration open at 8am. The course has runners starting outside the ballpark entrance with the final leg taking place inside the stadium. Both runners and walkers are encouraged to take part in the event.

All proceeds benefit the Hope Foundation and Hope’s TeenLink facility. The TeenLink site, located next to the McCall Middle School in Montoursville, is a community-based learning opportunity for local school districts, BLaST IU 17, autism support coordination and Hope individuals.

“Hope Enterprises is honored to once again be the beneficiary of the 2021 Cutters 5k race,” stated Hope’s CEO/President Rob Labatch. “We are blessed to have the support of the Williamsport Crosscutters, as their devotion to the philanthropic needs of our community is truly remarkable.”

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place runners in seven male and female age categories with the first-place runners having the opportunity to throw out ceremonial first pitches at the Williamsport Crosscutters game on June 19. Additionally, prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female walkers. In keeping with
health and safety guidelines, there will not be a Kids Fun Run held in conjunction with the event this year.

Last year’s race was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and this year’s event will follow CDC guidelines including masking during check-in, and post-race awards along with a timed staggered start to assure safety and social distancing.

Cutters Vice-President of Marketing Gabe Sinicropi said, “The Cutters 5K continues to be one of our signature charity events and are thrilled that we can bring it back this year after a year layoff. We are long-time supporters of Hope Enterprises and their mission and are happy to assist in supporting all they do in our community.”

Registration is $20 per person. All participants registering by June 1 are guaranteed a free a race t-shirt. Online registration is available at FalconRaceTiming.com (click on Registration). The 2021 Williamsport Crosscutters home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, May 25 at Historic Bowman Field as the Cutters begin play in the new MLB Draft League. MVP Club Season Ticket Plans and Bonus Book Mini-Plans are now available online at crosscutters.com or by calling (570) 326-3389. Tickets for Opening Night and other select games go on sale to the general public May 10 at 10am and can be ordered online, by phone or in-person at the Cutters Box Office.

Cardinals Teacher of the Month: Dave Davis, Hillcrest High School

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield Cardinals and Missouri Lottery are proud to announce Dave Davis of Hillcrest High School as our March Teacher of the Month.

Dave, who has been teaching at Hillcrest since 1983, started a Broadcast Journalism class at the school in 1989. Since then, the school’s student-produced show, HTV Magazine, has gone on to become one of the country’s most-honored high school broadcasts and is the longest-running student newscast in the nation.

The 2009 Springfield Public Schools Teacher of the Year award winner also led Hillcrest’s baseball program to two state titles early in his teaching career.

“His students have blossomed under his guidance,” one Teacher of the Month nominator wrote about Davis. “They have won numerous national awards and many of them now have careers in journalism and broadcasting. With the lives he’s touched…I can’t think of a more deserving teacher.”

In 2019, five Hillcrest students from HTV Magazine received the Robert F. Kennedy Book & Journalism award in Washington, D.C. for their “Wildfire” episode of the program’s Bay 11 Podcast. That award marked the ninth time that students from HTV Magazine earned the award.

To show gratitude for their important contributions to the Southwest Missouri community, Dave and each future Teacher of the Month will receive one Cardinals luxury suite rental, one ceremonial first pitch, recognition on the Cardinals video board and Cardinals caps for their group, all made possible by Missouri Lottery.

Created as a way to honor local-area educators from all grade levels, the Cardinals Teacher of the Month Award program, presented by Missouri Lottery, is an opportunity for the Southwest Missouri community to shine the spotlight on teachers who are making a difference in the lives of their students during these challenging times.

One hundred percent of Missouri Lottery profits are earmarked for education. In fact, since the Lottery began 35 years ago, it has generated more than $6.5 BILLION for the state and public education.
