RiverDogs Host Fifth Annual Trick-or-Treat Movie Night Down at The Joe

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The RiverDogs are getting in the Halloween spirit with the fifth annual Trick-or-Treat Movie Night featuring Disney’s “Monsters University” from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, October 26 at Joe Riley Park.

The night begins with trick-or-treating around the Riley Park concourse starting at 6 p.m., followed by the showing of Disney’s animated hit starting at 7 p.m. on the video board. Admission for the event is $5 per person or free with a donation of five (5) or more canned food items for the Lowcountry Food Bank. Members of the MUSC Health Kid’s Club get in free, as do all children ages three (3) and under.

Trick-or-treaters are encouraged to dress in costume. Fans will have the opportunity to interact with various characters, enjoy a bubble station with ‘Good Clean Fun,’ and play in the RiverDogs’ Kids Zone as part of the evening’s festivities.

Coming off the heels of their second straight year eclipsing 300,000 fans through the turnstiles, the RiverDogs have already begun preparations for another year down at The Joe. Crawdads to Host Trunk-Or-Treat at the Ballpark

Hickory, NC- The Crawdads will be hosting their first-ever Trunk-Or-Treat at the stadium on Monday, October 29th from 6pm to 8pm. The free event will feature a family-friendly place for kids to trick-or-treat, food, Halloween-themed games, and ‘Dads ticket specials.

The Trunk or Treat will have $2 specials on hot dogs, Pepsi products and Dippin’ Dots in addition to free popcorn. The Catawba Farms Crawdads Café will be open for food and refreshments with a limited menu. There will also be an inflatable bounce house, speed pitch, and cornhole set up at the event.

Fans will be able to purchase sweetFrog Claw Club, the official Crawdads kids club for kids 12 and under, packages for a discounted $34 (regular price $49). Silver Slugger, the ‘Dads club for fans 60+, memberships are also available for 2019.

Yankees present donation to Pulaski County 4-H

PULASKI, Va. – The Pulaski Yankees today presented the Pulaski County 4-H with a donation of nearly $3,000 in funds raised from the team’s Agriculture Night presented by Farm Credit of the Virginias on August 22. The theme night featured two fundraising opportunities – a raffle to win a live cow and the auction of game-worn specialty cow jerseys. Through these efforts, the organization raised $2,906 to benefit the local 4-H in Pulaski County.

“Our Agriculture Night was a huge success both for the ballpark and the community,” said Pulaski Yankees General Manager Betsy Haugh.
“We were thrilled by the fan support we received for this promotion and are excited to make this donation to the 4-H to help support agriculture and youth development in our area.”
The Pulaski County 4-H is 100 percent community funded, with money raised going back into local operations.
“We’re appreciative of this partnership and the opportunity to use the funds to put back into our local program,” said Senior 4-H Extension Agent Chris Lichty.
In addition to the cow raffle and the specialty jerseys, Agriculture Night – sponsored by Farm Credit of the Virginias – featured a petting zoo at Motor Mile Field at Calfee Park and a plush mascot giveaway of the Yankees’ mascot, Calf-E, for the first 250 children in attendance. The winner of the cow raffle, Adam Phillips, was given the choice of accepting the cow living or after processing, provided by Thompson’s Meats.
“We appreciate the opportunity to participate in this,” said Farm Credit of the Virginias Branch Manager Brian Repass. “We enjoyed it and thought it was very beneficial. We’re glad we were able to help out the local 4-H, which is part of our mission.”
The Pulaski Yankees, Pulaski County 4-H, and Farm Credit of the Virginias plan to partner together again in 2019 for another Agriculture Night promotion. The 2018 Home Runs for Heroes program has now generated over $300,000 in 10 years for area non-profits thanks to the OceanFirst Foundation!

The OceanFirst Foundation donated $78,000 to area non-profit organizations as part of the Home Runs for Heroes program in 2018.

Each time the BlueClaws hit a home run at FirstEnergy Park this year, the organization(s) paired with the corresponding inning received $1,000 from OceanFirst Foundation. The program has now raised over $300,000 in 10 years for local organizations that support military-personnel, both veterans and active.

The BlueClaws hit a franchise record 44 home runs at FirstEnergy Park this year, but because four innings featured two different organizations, home runs hit in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings each generated $2,000 in donations.

AquaSox Receives NWL Community Service Nomination

Everett, WA – The Everett AquaSox have been selected as the Northwest League nominee for Minor League Baseball’s John Henry Moss Community Service Award. The John Henry Moss Community Service Award is awarded to a club that demonstrates an outstanding, on-going commitment to charitable service, support and leadership within their local community and within the baseball industry.

Throughout the season the AquaSox tied theme and promotional nights to the community by partnering with multiple local organizations. This season the AquaSox partnered with Braden Bishop, former Everett AquaSox outfielder and currently Seattle Mariners prospect with his 4MOM Foundation for Local Heroes Night. Braden’s mother, Suzy, was diagnosed in September 2015 with early-onset Alzheimer’s. The night originally was planned to be a Braden Bishop bobblehead giveaway, Everett Fire versus Police Department Home Run Derby and a donation drive for the 4MOM Foundation. Due to a season-ending injury, Braden was able to join the AquaSox for his very own bobblehead giveaway. With his appearance, the AquaSox and fans raised $2,500 for 4MOM Foundation.

“We love supporting the Everett community and beyond year after year,” said General Manager Danny Tetzlaff. “Being recognized for all our efforts by our peers in the Northwest League is very fulfilling.”

Providence Regional Medical Center and the AquaSox worked together annually for Pink in the Park. This event raises money for the Providence Comprehensive Breast Center. Proceeds from the night along with a Star Wars jersey auction on Star Wars Night, June 23 allowed the AquaSox to donate over $5,600 to the Providence Foundation. In addition to Pink in the Park, the AquaSox supported Hilinski’s Hope during Coug Night raising $1,503. Hilinski’s Hope is a foundation geared toward mental health awareness in memory of Tyler Hilinski, who was the Washington State Cougar Quarterback that ended his life earlier this year.

After the August 12 game, the AquaSox hosted a Challenger Miracle League game in which fans of any age and disability come onto the field to play a few innings with our AquaSox players and coaches. It easily one of the best, and most humbling experiences one can have on a field.

“In my first year with the AquaSox, I am proud to be a part of an organization that supports the community and one the community supports,” Director of Community Relations & Merchandise Ashlea LaPlant said. “I look forward to the continued growth of our community outreach.”

Away from the ballpark Webbly and the staff were involved with multiple events including Little Leagues, National Night Out, non-profits, school visits and a welcoming fair for the newest crew to join the Everett Naval Base.

The AquaSox made many new connections, fostered growth with current partnerships and set a new standard for our relationship with the Everett community. We look forward to even more growth in the 2019 season!

Canadians Thanksgiving provides local families with holiday cheer

Trick-Or-Beat returns on Halloween

CHARLESTON, WV (October 2, 2018) – The West Virginia Power, in conjunction with 98.7 The Beat and West Virginia Radio Corporation, will host the 13th annual Trick-Or-Beat at Appalachian Power Park on October 31, 2018. This event provides a safe and well-lit environment for Charleston area youth to trick-or-treat on Halloween.

“We are happy to be hosting Trick-Or-Beat for the 13th consecutive year,” said Power General Manager Tim Mueller. “This event has always created a fun atmosphere for everyone in the Charleston community to come out and enjoy together.”

There will be two trick-or-treating sessions at the ballpark on October 31. Session one begins at 6:00 P.M. and will last until 7:00 P.M. The second session starts at 7:30 P.M. and will conclude at 8:30 P.M. Children ages 12 and younger are free to walk around the concourse and pick up candy from different illuminated stations. There is no cost of admission, but all children must have a ticket to enter the ballpark.

Tickets are limited to 1,250 per session and are available now at the West Virginia Power front office or at West Virginia Radio Corporation, located at 1111 Virginia Street East in Charleston. Adults do not need a ticket and are asked to refrain from taking any candy during the event.

New for 2019, all tickets come with a pizza voucher, which can be redeemed after each child finishes trick-or-treating for the evening.

Local businesses are encouraged to contact the Power front office or fill out this form if they are interested in making a candy or monetary donation towards the purchase of candy for the night. If businesses are interested in attending the event to pass out candy and set-up table displays, they can also contact the Power to make the necessary arrangements.

Thousands of Local Children to Learn Life Saving CPR at Four Winds Field

SOUTH BEND, IN – For the second year in a row, the South Bend Cubs will host a CPR Training Event with over a thousand local children participating from South Bend Community School Corporation and School City of Mishawaka at Four Winds Field. This event is the largest in the region.

Students will be given training in Hands-Only CPR by area EMS, fire, police, and medical personnel. Each student will be given their own CPR Anytime training kit complete with an inflatable manikin and DVD with instructions in CPR. Students will be encouraged to take home their kits and train friends and family using the DVD. While at the training they will also hear speeches from local community leaders and testimonies from area sudden cardiac arrest survivors.

The event is coordinated by enFocus, a local nonprofit, and the Out-Of-Hospital-Cardiac-Arrest (OHCA) Task Force to drive home the importance of prompt bystander intervention for victims of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). Research indicates that hands-only CPR can significantly increase the likelihood of survival of such an event. The national average for survival is only about 10% and in 2015 in Saint Joseph County it was only 5%.

“We are honored to host this event again in conjunction with enFocus,” said South Bend Cubs President Joe Hart. “The amount of space Four Winds Field has, gives us the flexibility to host such a large number of students. Our hope is that the students trained at this event will then train their friends and family.”

This is not a public event, but media representatives are welcome. South Bend Schools will be trained during the morning session (10:30am – 12:00pm) and Mishawaka and Catholic schools will be trained in the afternoon session (1:00pm – 2:30pm). In the event of inclement weather, the event will be postponed until Tuesday, October 16. GENEVA, Ill. – The Kane County Cougars have been nominated by the Midwest League for the John Henry Moss Community Service Award.

The award is presented to a Minor League club which demonstrates a commitment to charitable service as well as support and leadership within their local community and the baseball industry.

Community impact has been one of the pillars of the Cougars organization since 1991, but prior to the 2018 season the Kane County Cougars Baseball Foundation, Inc. launched a historic fundraising goal known as “A Million Smiles Campaign.” The first campaign of its kind in the history of MiLB, the Foundation worked towards reaching a donation total of one million dollars with each dollar donated providing a welcome smile for those in need. Dragons Website Going Pink in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

DAYTON, OH – The Dayton Dragons have gone pink during the month of October. In partnership with Kettering Health Network, the Dragons have turned their website pink to raise breast cancer awareness and support the upcoming Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk.

The Dragons website, www.daytondragons.com, and Dragons Facebook page will remain pink for the month of October to help draw attention to the efforts by Kettering Health Network to increase breast cancer awareness in the Miami Valley.

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and it is estimated that over 40,000 lives will be lost to breast cancer in 2018. And while the breast cancer diagnosis rate has increased, there has been a steady drop in the overall breast cancer death rate since the early 1990’s.

You can help win the fight. The walk and donations go directly to the support, transportation, recovery, and other needs that arise with the diagnosis of breast cancer. The American Cancer Society also invests in groundbreaking breast cancer research to better understand, prevent, find, and treat the disease.

The 2018 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk will be at Fifth Third Field on October 20 at 8:00 a.m. This event is part of a national fundraising effort. In 2018 alone, over 1 million walkers across the country collected more than $60 million to help fight this disease.

Fifth Third Field to Host Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday

DAYTON, OH – Dayton, Ohio will host one of the nation’s largest Walks to End Alzheimer’s as the annual event brings attention to the impact and reach of the disease.

More than 3,000 people are expected to participate in the Saturday, Oct. 6 event sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association Miami Valley Chapter. The event is a great way to support efforts for a cure, celebrate a loved one or honor caregivers.

“We’re looking forward to this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s,” said Eric VanVlymen, Executive Director of the Miami Valley Chapter. “Not only does the Walk support Alzheimer’s research, care, and support programs, but it’s also a chance for families and friends to come together and share a message of hope. We’d love to see the entire community get involved and join the fight to end Alzheimer’s.”

The Dayton Walk will take place at Fifth Third Field. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The walk starts at 10 a.m. While at the walk, participants can learn about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association Miami Valley Chapter. Walk participants also honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with a poignant tribute known as the Promise Garden ceremony.

Walk Committee member Jenica Huelskamp said, “The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is truly a day of showing support and love for those facing Alzheimer’s. I’ve been participating in the walk for years with my family and I always leave feeling hopeful and refreshed that we can make a difference to end Alzheimer’s.”

All funds raised through the Walk to End Alzheimer’s further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. The Dayton Walk is the 25th largest walk in the nation based on dollars raised. Last year, $550,000 was raised during the Dayton walk.

SMOKIES AND U.S. CELLULAR TO HOST LITTLE LEAGUE TAKEOVER

SEVIERVILLE – The Tennessee Smokies have announced they have teamed up with U.S. Cellular to host a Little League Takeover on Monday, October 1st at Sevierville City Park Baseball fields from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM. The U.S. Cellular Little League Takeover will allow the youth baseball players ages 5-13 to experience what it is like to be a Smokies player for a day.

“We are extremely excited to team up with U.S. Cellular for this event,” added Smokies President and COO Chris Allen. “This is a great event to allow these kids the chance to experience what it is like to be a Smokies player for a day. We are thrilled to be involved in this event as we love being a part of this Sevierville community.”

The event will take place at the Sevierville City Park Baseball fields located at 1005 Park Rd, Sevierville, TN 37862. The youth baseball players will play their scheduled games with a host announcing the players, on-field games, inflatables, prizes, and much more. The youth baseball players will also have a chance to feel like a true Smokies player with a mock interview station featuring a podium and a media backdrop where they can answer questions following their game.

“At U.S. Cellular, we’re happy to bring interactive experiences like this to the communities we serve,” said Nathan Waddell, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Tennessee. “Providing an opportunity for these kids to enjoy a day in the life of a professional baseball player is as exciting for us as it is for them. We hope they all soak in this once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

The U.S. Cellular Little League Takeover will also feature Smokies mascots interacting with the players throughout the event.

Wings Nominated for John Henry Moss Community Service Award

The Rochester Red Wings have been nominated by the International League for the John Henry Moss Community Service Award.

The award is presented to a Minor League club for their ongoing commitment to charitable service and their support and leadership within the community and the baseball industry. The honor was created in 2013 by Minor League Baseball in honor of the late John Henry Moss, who founded what would become the South Atlantic League in 1959 and headed the circuit until 2007.

Community is the team’s middle name in Rochester, where over eight thousand community members came together in 1957 to form Rochester Community Baseball and keep the Red Wings in Rochester. The team has continually developed partnerships with local socially concerned organizations, lending support in a variety of formats such as programs, promotions, awareness events, charitable contributions, appearances, volunteer service.

“The act of doing, giving and participating is more a way of life for us than a concerted effort,” Red Wings President Naomi Silver said. “In baseball, we all know that the impact that we make on a community goes well beyond what we do inside our fences. It’s the outreach we make the other 295 non-game days a year that allows us to really make a difference. In Rochester, we treasure our role in giving back in support of our community. Since 1957 when the Red Wings became incorporated as Rochester Community Baseball, we have taken our commitment seriously. It is a tremendous honor to be recognized outside of our own community.”

“All Minor League Baseball teams are involved in their community in many positive ways, but the front office of the Red Wings takes this to another level entirely,” said International League President Randy Mobley. “From the very first person on the organizational chart to the very last, all are involved in multiple community organizations and many serve in multiple leadership positions. The breadth and depth of the commitment by this staff to ‘do good’ in the community is not only commendable, but truly inspiring. The Red Wings front office is a wonderful example for us all.”

The award will be presented at the Winter Meetings Awards Luncheon on Monday, December 10 in Las Vegas.

SC Veterans Upstate Salute at Fluor Field on November 11th

The Drive are excited to team up with fellow Upstate Veterans Alliance partners GE, Greenville Health System and Michelin for the third annual SC Veterans Upstate Salute! You’re invited to join us in this free celebration on Sunday, November 11th at Fluor Field, as we will honor our local veterans with a night full of entertainment.

The Fluor Field gates will open at 3:00. Highlights of the evening include a concert from the Charlie Daniels Band, a 21-gun salute, parachuters, an aerial flyover and opportunities to meet community agencies supporting veterans and their families. The night will conclude with a spectacular fireworks show. The concession stands at Fluor Field will be open throughout the evening.
