Scrappers Announce Colorburst 5K for 2017

ColorBurst 5K, producers of paint run events across America, in conjunction with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers are delighted to announce that the Second Annual ColorBurst 5K run will take place within the grounds of Eastwood Field on Saturday August 5, 2017. This family friendly 5K fun run will be staged in partnership with the Scrappers and will be held the same day as the team’s home game against the State College Spikes.

The CB5K experience brings people from all walks of life together in a technicolor burst of energy and excitement blending color, music and ‘good vibes’ against the backdrop of a 5K fun-run suitable for the entire family.

Shuckers announce inaugural Kids Clinic series

BILOXI, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers announced plans for their inaugural Shuckers Kids Clinic Thursday morning, launching another effort to engage with the community through baseball.

The Biloxi Shuckers Kids Clinic aims to help youth baseball players along the Mississippi Gulf Coast improve their baseball skills while receiving hands-on instruction from former Mets catcher and Shuckers team ambassador Barry Lyons.

Lyons, a Biloxi native and Shuckers team ambassador, will lead the series of events as he imparts his wisdom gleaned from a 7-year Major League career. The 1986 World Series champion will enlist the help of current Shuckers players at the four camps over the course of the summer.

The clinics are tailored to different age groups to ensure that instruction is as personalized as possible. Camps on May 31 and June 12 are targeted towards kids age 5-8, and the June 1 and June 13 dates are intended for kids age 9-12.

Registration and sign-in begins at 8:30 a.m., and the clinics will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Participants will receive a Shuckers Kids Clinic t-shirt, autographs from Barry Lyons and Shuckers players, a Shuckers team photo, a ticket voucher for a 2017 game, Papa John’s pizza and pre-game recognition on the field before that night’s Shuckers game.

Kids are encouraged to bring their own baseball equipment and wear proper baseball attire, including a cap and athletic shoes or cleats. Water will be provided, and parents are invited to stay during the camp.

The cost of registration is $60 per child. Space is limited, so early sign-up is encouraged. Kids must be signed up by May 24 to guarantee the correct t-shirt size. SACRAMENTO RIVER CATS PARTNER WITH SUNRUN TO EDUCATE FANS ON HOME SOLAR POWER

WEST SACRAMENTO, California – April 12, 2017 – The Sacramento River Cats announced it will be one of 16 teams featured in a multi-year partnership between Minor League Baseball™ (MiLB™) and Sunrun (Nasdaq: RUN), the largest dedicated residential solar company in the United States. The partnership, now in its second year, was inked in 2016. As the “Preferred Residential Solar Power Provider of Minor League Baseball,” Sunrun will help educate baseball fans across the country on the financial and environmental benefits of Sunrun solar.

The River Cats join a list of clubs in all classifications of MiLB to support Sunrun’s campaign to educate fans on the financial and environmental benefits of Sunrun solar. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the Sunrun brand, showcasing that it can provide homeowners access to technology that enables energy generation, storage and management.

As part of the campaign, River Cats right-hander Tyler Beede has been selected to Sunrun’s ‘The Future is Bright’ lineup. The list, compiled by participating clubs, highlights one top prospect in each of the 16 communities that Sunrun serves in partnership with MiLB. Beede continues to show the promise that made him the San Francisco Giants’ first round pick in 2014 out of Vanderbilt University. The 23-year-old has posted a 2.76 ERA in 25 starts since the beginning of the 2016 season, while striking out 138 batters in 153.1 innings.

“Tyler Beede is a top prospect in the San Francisco Giants organization and certainly deserves to be included in Sunrun’s ‘The Future is Bright’ lineup,” said Sacramento River Cats General Manager Chip Maxson. “We’re proud to partner with Sunrun this season to educate our fans on the benefits of using solar to power their homes.”

This season, the River Cats will also host “Sunrun Sundays,” giving young fans the opportunity to escort players to their on-field positions as part of Sunrun’s Jr. All-Stars program.

Osprey to host Job Fairs at MSO Hub

The Missoula Osprey announced today that their annual Job Fair will be over two days with the first set for Wednesday, April 26 and the second for Tuesday, May 23 both at the MSO Hub from 4 – 7 p.m.

The job fairs are open to the entire community that is 16 and older. Everyone who attends and fills out an application is guaranteed an interview for a seasonal position with the Osprey.

The Osprey strive to hire employees that enhance the experience of our fans by providing excellent customer service and entertainment at the ballpark. These positions are ideal for someone looking for a fun summer job.

If a person wishes to work for the Osprey, but cannot attend the job fair, stop by the Osprey office, located on the second floor of the MSO Hub at 140 N. Higgins, to fill out an application and schedule an interview for a later date. Those interviews will be set on a need basis after the job fair.

The Osprey play 38 regular season home games each summer and host multiple non-baseball events at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. The 2017 home opener is slated for June 23 against the Great Falls Voyagers.

MBF Exceeds $1 Million in Grant Donations

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Michigan Baseball Foundation is pleased to announce that after awarding grants for the 2017 cycle, MBF has exceeded $1 million donated to non-profit organizations since 2008. This month, MBF distributed 26 grants totaling $104,515 across seven counties in the Great Lakes Bay Region this past year.

“Giving back to our local youth has been something we have taken pride in since MBF started awarding grants,” Michigan Baseball Foundation vice president Paul Barbeau said. “It’s an important part of what we do at Dow Diamond, not just providing fun entertainment during the baseball season, but also supporting the communities that surround us.”

MBF has awarded 283 grants totaling $1,022,761 to deserving non-profit organizations across 14 counties in the Great Lakes Bay Region over the past 10 years.

This year the Friends of Hoyt Park Foundation in Saginaw received $6,600 for dugout benches and a tractor. Midland Center for the Arts received a grant in the amount of $6,250 to upgrade the permanent microscope exhibit in the museum’s “Hall of Ideas.” The Bay Community Tennis Center will install net posts, while Gladwin Community Schools will use $3,000 to upgrade their athletic building and batting cages.

The Foundation began its annual grant process in April 2016 and solicited grant applications from non-profit organizations throughout the region. All applicants were required to meet one or more of the following guidelines, which reflected the purposes for which the Michigan Baseball Foundation was organized:

•   The organization contributes to regional economic development.
•   The organization is based in Mid-Michigan and serves young people.
•   The organization promotes amateur sports and fitness

The Michigan Baseball Foundation considers funding mid-Michigan non-profit organizations that use the grant money to fund projects; the grants are not intended to fund day-to-day operations. Primary consideration will be given to organizations in the Midland, Bay, Saginaw, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Genesee, Isabella, Tuscola, Huron, Arenac, Ogemaw, Sanilac and Iosco counties.

Barons To Introduce New Recycling Initiative At Regions Field In 2017

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham Barons announced today that the team, in partnership with Waste Management, will introduce a brand new recycling initiative for the 2017 season. There will be 13 different recyclable bins located around Regions Field, with translucent liners to clearly define the areas to dispose of paper, bottles, cans and cardboard.

“We, the Birmingham Barons have always been committed to making Regions Field a ballpark that reflects the values and satisfies the needs of this community, which is why we are implementing a recycling program to make Regions Field more environmentally-friendly in 2017,” Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson said. “Since our time at Regions Field began, we have received positive feedback on all the amenities along with an expressed desire to start a recycling program. We are excited to introduce this new program in 2017.”

The 13 different bins, which will be branded with the Barons logo, will be located in different areas of Regions Field. The bins are expected to be in place for the home opener on Wednesday, April 12th and the Barons encourage all guests to dispose of their trash and recyclables in the specified and clearly marked containers.

“As our continued partnership grows, we are excited to have the Barons join in to help with our sustainability efforts in the Birmingham community,” Leah Harry, Functional Sales Manager of Waste Management Alabama said.

“The Barons look forward to continuing to play our part in taking care of our community and we look forward to having our guests participate in this wonderful program as well,” Director of Stadium Operations Timmy Hinds added.

Now accepting Scholarship Applications

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (April 10, 2017) – The South Bend Cubs officially published eligibility rules and the application form for $5,000 scholarships dedicated to softball and baseball players in 11 counties surrounding Four Winds Field in downtown South Bend today.

“We make no small plans here at Four Winds Field. Nor should the young athletes in this region who compete in softball and baseball,” commented Andrew T. Berlin, Chmn./Owner of the South Bend Cubs. “These scholarships are a significant way to show our support of future leaders and the game we all love at the same time. They’re not just for current athletes who will go on to play on varsity teams in college. They’re for any high school senior athlete who intends to continue his or her education full time after high school-whether they continue competing at the varsity level or not.”

In 2016, the South Bend Cubs awarded five scholarships worth $5,000 each to high school seniors from Edwardsburg, MI, Bremen, LaPorte, South Bend and Walkerton, IN. Two of the recipients were softball players, three were baseball players.

Applications for the 2017 South Bend Cubs Scholarships will be accepted from April 10 through May 31. Up to five (5) $5,000 scholarships will be granted. A full set of rules, eligibility requirements and an application form can be found online at www.1stsourcebankperformancecenter.com

“We want to make sure people understand two things about these scholarships that are very important,” said Joe Hart, President of the South Bend Cubs. “These are not just baseball scholarships. Also, we want people to know we’re doing our part to help build a new baseball and softball dynasty in this region. That’s what the 1st Source Bank Performance Center here at Four Winds Field is all about-year-round professional pitching, conditioning, fielding and at-bat training with professional instructors. San Jose Giants Unveil 2017 Military Trading Cards Presented by Operation: Care and Comfort

San Jose, CA– The San Jose Giants unveiled at FanFest, the 2017 Military Trading Card Set, presented by Operation: Care and Comfort. This incredible 40 card set is complete with honorees from each military branch. Furthermore, the pack includes current personnel and veterans who have served in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, the War in Afghanistan and Iraq. The set is filled with men and women from our town and from across the globe who have honorably defended the principles on which the United States is founded upon. 2017 Red Wings Baseball Camp, July 19-20

The Red Wings 2017 Baseball Camp presented by Advantage Federal Credit Union will take place at Frontier Field July 19-20. The camp is open to boy and girls ages 7-12. Camp will run 9 am to 12 om on July 19 and 9 am to 1 pm on July 20.

Campers will learn techniques and fundamentals of the game from Red Wings players and coaches. The instructors will cover everything from fielding and pitching to hitting and base running. Each session will include games.

Staybridge Suites/Missoula Independent Community Corner Returns

The Missoula Osprey announced today that the Staybridge Suites/Missoula Independent Community Corner that recognizes the impact of local non-profits in Western Montana will return for the 2017 season.

For every regular season home game, Staybridge Suites, the Missoula Independent and the Osprey team-up to donate 20 tickets to qualified non-profit organizations.

The tickets can be used by volunteers, sponsors, staff, or those that benefit from the organization’s efforts.

The Missoula Osprey announced today that the Staybridge Suites/Missoula Independent Community Corner that recognizes the impact of local non-profits in Western Montana will return for the 2017 season.

For every regular season home game, Staybridge Suites, the Missoula Independent and the Osprey team-up to donate 20 tickets to qualified non-profit organizations.

The tickets can be used by volunteers, sponsors, staff, or those that benefit from the organization’s efforts. Due to the popularity of the program, Community Corner tickets are only available on a first come, first served basis. “The Community Corner is one of the many programs we offer to non-profit organizations,” said Osprey Vice President/General Manager Jeff Griffin. “With the help of our corporate partners, we are able to recognize the work of local non-profits in our community. These efforts are one of the many things that make Missoula such a special place.”

To reserve a Community Corner spot, non-profit organizations must make a request in writing on the organization’s letterhead. Requests may be mailed to 140 N. Higgins, or e-mailed to jgriffin@missoulaosprey.com.

The 2017 Osprey home opener is slated for Friday, June 23 against the Great Falls Voyagers.

Teague Moore to Celebrate “Home Life For Life” Saturday with OKC Dodgers

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Dodgers and INTEGRIS Health open the 2017 “Home Run for Life” series Saturday, April 8 as part of Opening Weekend at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark by recognizing Teague Moore, who suffered severe burns in a house fire at the age of 4.

Moore, from Chickasha, was burned over 40 percent of his body during the fire that destroyed his family’s home. He would endure 14 surgeries in a span of less than six months to help his skin and body heal, including seven surgeries at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Today, almost two years after the fire, Moore is in kindergarten and enjoying life as an energetic 6-year-old thanks to the care he received at INTEGRIS.

“Home Run For Life” recognizes individuals in the Oklahoma City community who have overcome a significant medical event with the help of their families, physicians and health care professionals. To symbolize the end of their battle against adversity, honorees take a home run “lap” around the bases during an in-game ceremony.

“We are proud to continue the Home Run For Life Series this season and honor some remarkable individuals in our community who have battled exceptional challenges with their health,” OKC Dodgers President/General Manager Michael Byrnes said. “Their resolve and courage offer great inspiration for us all and we are pleased to join with INTEGRIS to recognize their triumphs.”

On a warm, rainy evening in June 2015, a fire ignited in the garage of the Moore family home where the young boy was playing with his pet dog Ranger. Moore got caught in the flames and screamed for his mother. Shelby Moore rushed from the kitchen into the garage to save her son, instinctively rolling him on the ground to put out the flames that had quickly enveloped him.

He was transported by ambulance to emergency care in Oklahoma City and later that night traveled by MediFlight on a plane to a Texas hospital.

“Things were touch-and-go in the beginning,” Shelby Moore said. “We did not know if he would survive for the first 12 days.”

After spending a total of 48 days out of state, including 32 days in intensive care, 28 days on a ventilator and enduring seven surgeries, he returned home to Oklahoma.

Upon returning to Oklahoma, Teague spent approximately two more months in the hospital during two stays at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center. When he was first admitted to the Paul Silverstein Burn Center, Teague underwent sedated dressing changings and cleanings on his wounds every few days and was fed through a tube and IV to help improve his nutrition levels as his body healed.

Once he was healthy enough for additional surgery, Teague had three major grafting sessions and was placed on a ventilator to help him heal. A few months later, he returned to INTEGRIS for additional corrective surgeries.

Shelby Moore praised the care her son received at INTEGRIS, in both the pediatric unit and the burn center.

“When we got to Baptist, everyone – I mean everyone down to the kitchen staff – was so kind and patient,” Shelby Moore said. “They almost went at his pace. The nurses and staff truly started the healing process, not only physically, but mentally and emotionally. They are some of the most amazing people I have ever encountered in my life. They became family.”

Shelby Moore, her oldest son Trace, and Ranger were fortunate to not suffer significant physical injuries from the fire, but the injuries to Teague and loss of their family home and belongings took mental tolls on all. The staff at INTEGRIS aided them as well.

“They are equipped to treat not only the burn patient, but the burn families,” Shelby Moore said. “Everyone in the family is injured, not just the child that was burned.

“They healed us.”

The family moved into a new house in Chickasha in the fall of 2016 and they regularly return to INTEGRIS on an outpatient basis to ensure Teague’s grafts are growing with him. Shelby Moore describes her son Teague’s physical scars as “intense,” but said he does not have any physical limitations due to his injuries.

“I hope he never changes,” Shelby Moore said. “I hope he stays brave and fearless. And I hope he uses it to show the world that it doesn’t matter what you look like – that it’s your brain and soul that does amazing things.

“He is the bravest and most strong person I know.”

Dragons to Participate in Great American Cleanup Event

As part of the Great American Cleanup, the Dayton Dragons, Montgomery County Environmental Services, and Dayton Inspires will host a cleanup event on May 20th from 9:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. at 42 N. Orchard Ave. in Dayton.

The Dragons will be there from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. to get the event started with hats, raffle prizes, Dragons players, members of the Dragons Green Team, and a mascot. The cleanup of the area will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until 2:00 p.m.

Individual participants as well as groups like boy scouts, girls scouts, church groups, and others are invited to participate in the event. The Great American Cleanup is a terrific way to give back to the community. All registered volunteers at the cleanup will be entered into a drawing for a variety of great Dragons prizes.

The Great American Cleanup is the largest organized volunteer litter cleanup and community improvement program in the country. This long standing Keep America Beautiful event, which runs annually from March 1 until May 31, is sponsored locally by the Keep Montgomery County Beautiful (KMCB) program. NYPL Charitable Foundation Announces 2017 Scholarship Contest

The Class-A Short-Season New York-Penn League and its member clubs, including the Williamsport Crosscutters, are proud to announce that the league’s philanthropic arm, the NYPL Charitable Foundation, will once again award over $10,000 in scholarships this summer to deserving high school graduates from the league’s 14 markets.

The Class-A Short-Season New York-Penn League and its member clubs, including the Williamsport Crosscutters, are proud to announce that the league’s philanthropic arm, the NYPL Charitable Foundation, will once again award over $10,000 in scholarships this summer to deserving high school graduates from the league’s 14 markets.

Now in its ninth year, the 2017 NYPL Scholarship Contest is open to any graduating senior from a public or private high school within the league’s footprint. Any student who has been accepted at a two- or four-year college or university, vocational school, or technical education institution is eligible. Applicants will be judged based on academic performance, volunteer and extracurricular activities, and the impact their local NYPL club and Minor League Baseball have had on their lives.

The scholarship contest will consist of two stages – a local round and a league round. In the local stage, students will apply directly to their local NYPL team, with one applicant chosen by each of the 14 teams to advance to the league/final round. The 14 finalists will then be judged by league representatives. Three applicants will be selected to receive the top prize of a $2,500 scholarship. All other finalists will receive a $250 book award.

“The New York-Penn League Charitable Foundation and our 14 member clubs are pleased to have the opportunity to assist outstanding high school seniors within our league’s footprint for the ninth consecutive season,” said Ben J. Hayes, President of the New York-Penn League. “This program will again recognize those seniors who not only meet and exceed traditional scholarship criteria, but demonstrate the positive community impact and lifelong memories fostered by their local NYPL clubs throughout the year.”

High school seniors interested in entering the 2017 Scholarship Contest can obtain the official application by visiting the Williamsport Crosscutters offices at BB&T Ballpark. Applications can also be also be downloaded by clicking HERE.

The deadline to submit applications to the nearest NYPL team is June 5, 2017. Each club’s winner, including the three $2,500 scholarship recipients, will be selected in mid-July.

The New York-Penn League and its 14 member clubs created the New York-Penn League Charitable Foundation, a 501(c) (3) charitable organization, in 2003. The mission of the Foundation is to provide focus and support for the collective and individual charitable and community efforts of the New York-Penn League, its Clubs, and their staff.

Intimidators join with CPS for Medication Take Back Event

April 1, 2017

The Kannapolis Intimidators have partnered with the Center for Prevention Services to host a “Medication Take Back Event” at Opening Night on Thursday, April 6, at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. This provides a great opportunity for community residents to dispose of their unwanted, unused, and expired medications. Fans that bring medications to drop off will receive a voucher for $2 off their ticket at the Intimidators Opening Night game.

Fans will have a chance to meet Major League Baseball legend Darryl Strawberry, who will be signing autographs and taking pictures with fans from 7-9 p.m. courtesy of Hope Haven and Serenity House.

The Center for Prevention Services will have an educational booth located inside the stadium with safe medication storage and disposal information, keychains, t-shirts and so much more to share with game attendees. The Center for Prevention Services will be supported by community partners and high school students (members of Taking Responsible Actions in Life Program) in their effort to reach out to community residents with this great message.

Be sure to to drop off your medications and enjoy the game. Gates open at 6 p.m. with first pitch against the Lakewood BlueClaws set for 7:05 p.m. as the Kannapolis Intimidators open their 23rd season of baseball in our community.
