PawSox Commemorate Veterans Day Holiday with Dinner for Veterans

The Pawtucket Red Sox are commemorating the Veterans Day holiday by welcoming veterans to a steak dinner at McCoy Stadium tonight (Friday).

For the fourth straight year, the PawSox this evening are presenting a four-course steak dinner inside the PawSox Clubhouse. The guests also receive a tour of McCoy and gifts from the PawSox. The honorees are veterans from the YWCA of Rhode Island Gateway to Independence, the Rhode Island Military Organization, Chapter 3 of the Pawtucket DAV, Central Falls American Legion Post 79, Newport VFW Post 406, RI Association of Fire Chiefs Honor Flights, and Operation Stand Down.

“Hosting veterans in 2015 was our first community event after several of us joined the ballclub, and it was inspiring,” PawSox President Dr. Charles Steinberg said. “We have since turned this into a traditional gathering that we very much look forward to around the Veterans Day holiday. This modest gestures allow us to continue to demonstrate our appreciation to those who have served our country.”

Chasers Earn 11th Straight ‘Best of Omaha’ Honor

The Omaha Storm Chasers have once again earned top honors by being named Omaha’s Best Professional Sports Team, as selected on by voters of Omaha Magazine. This year marks the eleventh consecutive year the organization has received the “Best Professional Sports Team” award. The Storm Chasers organization accepted the award at Omaha Magazine’s Best of Omaha Soiree: A Night of the Best on Thursday night at the Omaha Design Center.

“We are proud to be the Metro’s top professional sports team for over 50 seasons,” said Storm Chasers President and General Manager Martie Cordaro. “Making the fan experience at Werner Park the best it can possibly be is our top priority and we are very excited for the 2019 season to begin with the Kansas City Royals Exhibition Game.”

The eleven-year stretch in which the Storm Chasers organization has received Omaha’s Best Professional Sports Team honor comprises all eight seasons the franchise has played at Werner Park, where the squad has won four division titles, as well as three Pacific Coast League Championships and Back-to-Back Triple-A National Championships in 2013-14. The ballpark also hosted the First National Bank Triple-A All-Star Game in 2015.

Since hosting its initial Opening Day on April 16, 2011, over three million fans have come through the gates of Werner Park. The 2018 season marked the 50th season in franchise history since the organization first began play in 1969 at Rosenblatt Stadium.

Braves Present Gift to Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association

DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Braves continued their community-focused efforts to local non-profits, most recently with a donation to the Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association (DPC).

The Braves charitable contributions come from their Cancer Awareness night on August 11, presented by Centra Health, where fans could purchase game-worn jerseys from Danville Braves players and coaches. On that date, D-Braves players touted special Danville 97s jerseys, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the year Danville had two minor league affiliated teams. The proceeds of the sale totaled over $1,000. In total, the Danville Braves have raised over $16,000 as a result of the jersey auction sales over the past eight seasons.

DPC provides financial, educational and emotional support to cancer patients in the Danville and Pittsylvania County area. Donations to the organization aim to defray the cost of cancer-related prescriptions, equipment, supplies, transportation reimbursement, nutritional supplements, as well as other special needs. South Bend Cubs Host Third Annual Polar Plunge

SOUTH BEND, IN – For the third straight year, the South Bend Cubs will host the Michiana Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Indiana on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Four Winds Field. Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. with the plunge beginning at 12:00 p.m. followed immediately by the After-Splash Bash in the Pepsi Stadium Club.

The Polar Plunge, an event held across the state of Indiana, continues to be a hit among the South Bend community. Because of this fundraiser, Special Olympics Indiana can continue to work towards their objective of improving the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by offering year-round programs and events such as the plunge. All funds raised at the Polar Plunge goes towards supporting the 16,000 Special Olympics athletes in all of Indiana.

“In 2019, Special Olympics Indiana celebrates 50 years of serving people with intellectual disabilities,” said Special Olympics President and CEO Jeff Mohler. “During this important milestone, we have set a goal to reach $1 million through our Polar Plunges across the state. The South Bend Cubs and our polar plungers will make this possible. Help our athletes reach their goals too.”

After raising over $17,000 dollars last year, the South Bend Cubs are issuing a challenge to the community in the hope of breaking last year’s record.

“Last year, we nearly doubled our fundraising goal,” said South Bend Cubs Director of Media and Promotions Chris Hagstrom-Jones. “With our new goal of $20,000 for 2019, we’re adding an incentive for our plungers. The individual or group who raises the most money will receive a free outdoor suite to a South Bend Cubs game in April and the chance to throw out a ceremonial first pitch.”

Fans who do not wish to plunge can also donate to the South Bend Cubs front office team, headlined by Owner & Chairman Andrew Berlin. To participate in the 2019 Michiana Polar Plunge, individuals or groups must raise a “bear” minimum of $75 in pledges. All funds raised will benefit Special Olympics Indiana. Jumbo Shrimp to host Family Holiday Event at the Baseball Grounds Dec. 8

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and Fun 4 First Coast Kids invite fans to kick off the Holiday season with our very Shrimpy Christmas event on Saturday, December 8 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

The event will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with Christmas movie classics How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Frosty’s Winter Wonderland being shown on the high-definition video board. Fans can also enjoy free pictures with Santa Claus, face painting and Christmas crafts. There will be s’more for sale, as well as other Christmas treats, and a kid zone on the field with a bouncy house and inflatable slide.

Admission is only $1 per person at the home plate gate or free with one new unwrapped toy, per family, to donate to children in need this holiday season. Attendees may sit on the field, and the stadium seating bowl will be open for seating. Riders support numerous local non-profits in October

FRISCO, Texas (Nov. 6, 2018) – Though the 2018 baseball season has ended, the RoughRiders Foundation stayed extremely productive during the month of October.

“There’s no offseason when it comes to the work we do with the RoughRiders Foundation,” said Breon Dennis, Executive Director of the RoughRiders Foundation. “We are constantly seeking ways to get involved with the great people of North Texas and our body of work in October was no exception.”

Below is a recap of the Foundation’s activity in October:

* Casino Night (October 13): The Foundation raised more than $6,000 at its annual VIP event thanks to the generous support of the team’s Founder’s members, suiteholders and corporate partners.
* Frisco Family Services (October 16): Riders staff helped sort through donated items and assisted in restocking shelves at the facility.

* StreetSide Showers (October 17): Staff made and distributed hygiene kits, while also helping pass out lunches.

* RoughRiders Baseball Academy (October 21): During the latest clinic for kids, Halloween candy was collected and donated to Soldier’s Angels Treats for Troops.
* National Breast Cancer Foundation (October 24): Riders employees helped make HOPE kits that will be sent out to patients who are battling breast cancer.

* RoughRiders Fall Festival (October 27): More than 2,000 cans of food were collected and donated to North Texas Food Bank as part of the team’s annual event.

In addition to its involvement in community activities, the RoughRiders also hosted the following events to help support various non-profit organizations:

* Red River Celebrity Softball Game (October 4), benefitting the Toby Keith Foundation, the Roger Clemens Foundation and the Just Keep Livin Foundation.
* The Ticket Dinger Derby (October 26), benefitting Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

* Light The Night Walk (October 28), supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Contribute to the Annual Toys for Tots Drive!

FREDERICK, MD-The Frederick Keys are excited to announce their continued partnership with the Toys for Tots Program. Entering the seventh straight year where the Keys and Toys for Tots have worked together, fans are encouraged to donate new, unwrapped toys in November and December. These gifts are then handed out to less fortunate children on Christmas Day.

“It is important that the holiday season is a special time for local children,” said Keys Director of Marketing, Erin Lawson. “We’ve been impressed at the community’s support each year and we can’t wait for another great turnout in 2018.”

The collection period for Toys for Tots is underway and runs through Friday, December 14. To make a donation, fans can visit the Nymeo Field main office (adjacent to the stadium main gates) during normal business hours (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) Monday-Friday. Anyone who contributes a new, unwrapped toy receives a Keys hat and two tickets to a game in 2019. Fans can also bring toys to the annual Keys Holiday Event on Saturday, December 1 which runs from 10 a.m-1 p.m. Prize packs will be limited to one per person.

Nymeo Field has frequently been one of the top collection sites in Frederick County. A program that began in 1947, there are more than 150 Marine reserve sites as wells as more than 800 local Toys for Tots programs across the country. In 2016 nearly 50,000 toys were collected in Frederick County and almost $30,000 was raised.

Planning for the 2019 Frederick Keys season is underway, which includes the Carolina League All-Star Classic on Tuesday, June 18 presented by Visit Frederick. Yankees donate to LewisGale Regional Cancer Center at Pulaski

PULASKI, Va. – The Pulaski Yankees presented LewisGale Regional Cancer Center at Pulaski with a donation of nearly $1,000 last Wednesday from proceeds raised during the team’s cancer awareness night on August 13. During Calf-E’s Fight Against Cancer presented by Gay & Neel, Inc. the Yankees raised $887 through a dunk tank and by donating $1 of all gameday ticket sales.

“During our 2018 cancer awareness night, we were able to spotlight nine different types of cancer – one per inning – and also raise funds to support cancer research and cancer care here locally,” said Pulaski Yankees General Manager. “We appreciate the tremendous fan support in helping to raise these funds and also thank Gay & Neel, Inc. for their sponsorship of Calf-E’s Fight Against Cancer. We’re proud to donate these proceeds to our friends at LewisGale to support the great work they’re doing to help cancer patients.”

Cedar Rapids Kernels release 2018 Community Report

Cedar Rapids, IA – The Kernels have released their third annual report showcasing how the organization supported the Cedar Rapids community in 2018.

The twenty-page report highlights the work inside and outside of Veterans Memorial Stadium throughout the calendar year. The Kernels Organization as a whole gave over $429,000 in charitable donations which includes money granted by the Kernels Foundation for local recreational projects. Other community efforts showcased include the 20th Annual Kernels Summer Reading Program that promoted the importance of reading to 25,000 local children in Eastern Iowa and the “Home Run for Hunger” program that, since 2017, collected 7,200 pounds of food from farmers’ market vendors for the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) food reservoir.

River Cats salute Veterans with special ticket package

West Sacramento, Calif. – The Sacramento River Cats are proud to announce a special ticket package in celebration of Veterans Day. These Veterans Day ticket packages will only be available to former and active military personnel for two days and only on Thursday, November 8 and Friday, November 9 at the Round Table Pizza Ticket Office at Raley Field.

The package is available in both a Senate level option or an Assembly level option and includes five River Cats games for the 2019 season: Opening Night on April 4, Salute to Armed Forces on May 11, Orange Friday on May 24, Father’s Day on June 16, and Independence Eve on July 3.

In addition, each pack comes with either a River Cats-themed military challenge coin or a choice between three specialty River Cats caps. Prices for the ticket package are $60 for the Assembly seating option with challenge coin and $90 for Senate seating and cap.

“The Sacramento River Cats would like to extend a sincere thank you to all former and active members of our Armed Forces for their service and sacrifice,” said River Cats General Manager Chip Maxson. “The Sacramento region has strong military ties, ranging from Beale and Travis Air Force Bases, the US Coast Guard at McClellan, the California National Guard units, reservists, retired service members, and their families and friends. Rocky Bluewinkle Goes Trick-or-Treating With Local Kids

Wilmington, DE – On a night where kids walk around getting candy for free, Halloween is a highlight on any household’s calendar. Yet the Wilmington Blue Rocks wanted to up the ante, so they sent their mascot to tag along for some trick-or-treating with the Giles family on Wednesday evening.

Rocky Bluewinkle helped collect candy in Wilmington with youngsters Nolan and Mason. Rocky dressed in his Star Wars jersey with light saber in hand. Meanwhile, his young pals went as a baseball player and a shark. The Giles won a social media contest run by the Blue Rocks in October.

Parents Ken and Kelly accompanied the trio on their candy quest and said it was a night to cherish.

“We were the talk of the neighborhood,” Kelly said. “Almost every house got so excited and grabbed their cameras–children and adults alike.”

The young mom said this was a memory her young sons will carry with them for the rest of their life. A night they’ll tell their kids about: ‘When I was a kid I took a seven-foot blue moose mascot with me door-to-door looking for candy.’

“I mean who doesn’t love Rocky?” Kelly said. “He made the night a great one and we can’t wait to come visit him again (for Opening Night) on April 4. It was a tremendous experience.”

The Blue Rocks make community outreach a priority. The team has won five consecutive Matt Minker Awards, which goes to the club that best demonstrates an outstanding, on-going commitment to charitable service, support, and leadership within its community in the Carolina League. The award is named after the Blue Rocks’ founder, who owned the club until his death in 2007. Minker, whose construction company built Frawley Stadium, is still the team’s honorary president.

The Blue Rocks recently announced a two-year extension of their Player Development Contract to remain the Advanced-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. Special Guest Appearance by Darius Rucker for Hurricane Florence Benefit Concert

Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune announced this morning that Darius Rucker will have a special guest appearance during the upcoming Hurricane Florence Benefit Concert. Rucker, originally from Charleston, South Carolina is a singer/songwriter known as the frontman of the musical group Hootie & the Blowfish who transitioned to a solo country artist in 2008.

The concert, which will take place on Sunday, November 11 at TicketReturn.Com Field, also features Michael Ray, Carly Pearce, Love and Theft, Chris Bryant, Josh Phillips, The Davisson Brothers Band, The Swon Brothers, and The Blue Dogs.  Additional artist announcements are expected in the coming days. Tickets for the event begin at $50 and are available at myrtlebeachpelicans.com/concert.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Area Recovery Council through the Waccamaw Community Foundation to support disaster relief efforts in Horry and Georgetown counties, as well as the Eastern South Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross to support disaster relief efforts in the counties of Horry, Florence, Darlington, Marlboro, Dillon, and Marion.  To learn more about the Waccamaw Community Foundation click here.  To learn more about the Eastern SC Chapter of the American Red Cross click here.

Dash’s Aveyard named Women in Baseball Scholarship recipient

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Nov. 1, 2018) – Minor League Baseball and the Women in Baseball Leadership Committee announced on Thursday that Jessica Aveyard, who has served as the Director of Entertainment for the Winston-Salem Dash since August of 2016, has been named one of four recipients of the Women in Baseball Leadership Event Scholarship.

The award includes registration to the Baseball Winter Meetings, which will be held from December 9-13, in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The Women in Baseball Leadership Event was established in 2008 at the Baseball Winter Meetings, providing a platform for female executives in Minor League Baseball and Major League Baseball the opportunity to network with their peers, obtain guidance on career development and enhance their professional skills.

“Jessica’s genuine excitement and passion is infectious and she plays a major role in our organization’s success,” said Dash President C.J. Johnson. “We are thrilled that Minor League Baseball has recognized her performance and provided her with this unique opportunity.”

With Jessica leading the entertainment crew on a game-to-game basis, the Dash have provided an exciting, family-friendly experience at BB&T Ballpark for the largest audience in the Carolina League. For each of the team’s home games the past two years, Jessica was responsible for creating a game log of sponsored reads for the public address announcer, organizing skits for in-game breaks, managing the Dash Pack (the team’s on-field entertainment staff), choreographing MiLB.tv’s gameday production and managing marquees for BB&T Ballpark’s outfield LED and in-stadium scoreboard.

On top of that, Jessica spearheaded several public relations initiatives, including a partnership with the Vs. Cancer Foundation that helped raise thousands of dollars in donations for cancer research.

Along with her daily duties, Jessica also served as the director for seven Dash home games broadcasted on NBC Sports Chicago, the Chicago White Sox cable rights holder. For these seven contests, Jessica was responsible for coordinating countdowns to commercial breaks with the NBC Sports crew, handling technical issues and directing shots, all while managing her regular duties as the Director of Entertainment. This year marked the first season in which the network carried Dash games.

Prior to joining the Dash, Jessica played a key front office role for the Dayton Dragons (Low-A, Cincinnati), one of the most successful teams in Minor League Baseball. With the Dragons, Jessica was an Entertainment Assistant and a part of the on-field entertainment staff known as the “Green Team.” Due to her efforts, Jessica was a part of a staff that helped the Dragons sell out Fifth Third Field each night of her nine-year tenure with the club.

D-Braves Offer Donation to God’s Storehouse

October 30, 2018

DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Braves presented a donation to local non-profit God’s Storehouse on Tuesday morning.

The Braves donation comes from a mystery ball sale held in mid-July, where fans could purchase autographed baseballs collected from minor and major league teams across the country. The proceeds of the sale totaled to $1,000.

God’s Storehouse is a non-profit food pantry that seeks to collect and distribute food resources to those in need throughout the Danville and Pittsylvania County communities.
