Sea Dogs to Hold Food Drive

Portland, Maine– The Portland Sea Dogs, in partnership with Maine’s Credit Unions, will hold their 18th annual Food Drive which will run from Tuesday, January 9th through Friday, February 2nd. All the collected food items will be donated to the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

As in the past, this year’s food drive will be “Buy One, Bring One, Get One.” For every ticket purchased and every donated food item you bring, you will receive a free Sea Dogs ticket to the same game. For example, if you buy three tickets to the June 18th game and bring in three food items, you will receive three additional complimentary tickets of equal or lesser value to the June 18th game. The offer is good for Box Seats, Reserved, General Admission, and Pavilion seating (excluding All-You-Can-Eat tickets); subject to availability.

Fans may take advantage of this offer by bringing their non-perishable food items to the Hadlock Field Box Office. The Sea Dogs Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

“Raising both funds and awareness about hunger is an important part of why we are so committed to the cause of ending hunger in Maine. Through our partnership with the Sea Dogs, we are once again focusing attention on this significant issue in Maine. Since 1990, Maine’s credit unions have raised more than $7.2 million to help end hunger in Maine, however, much more work remains to be done not only in terms of collecting food and money but getting it to the people who need it most. We continue to look for opportunities to make a difference and look forward to working with the Sea Dogs once again,” said Todd Mason, President of the Maine CU League.”

Each year the Sea Dogs have been able to donate hundreds of food items to the Good Shepherd Food Bank thanks to the generosity of Sea Dogs’ fans.

The Sea Dogs open the 2018 season on Thursday, April 5th in Binghamton, New York. The home opener is scheduled for Friday, April 13th at 6:00 PM against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

Miracle present checks for Irma relief

FORT MYERS, Fla. – In the past few weeks, the Fort Myers Miracle completed check presentations to eight charities across the Southwest Florida community that have played a major role in Hurricane Irma relief efforts.

This was made possible by a $13,000 donation from MiLB Charities. The Miracle then allocated the money to the following organizations: Lee County Schools, Harry Chapin Food Bank, Midwest Food Bank, Southwest Florida Community Foundation, Goodwill, New Horizons of Southwest Florida, Naples Zoo, and Everglades Wonder Gardens.

“We selected these organizations because of their incredible commitment to this community after the devastation of Hurricane Irma,” Miracle owner Jason Hochberg said. “As the community’s baseball team, we felt this was the least we could do to thank them for their efforts.”

The check presentations included leaders from all the organizations, Miracle mascot Sway, and representatives from the Miracle front office.

“As a non-for profit all funds are deeply appreciated,” Karl Steidinger, Director of Operations for Midwest Food Bank said. “The money will help us continue both our relief effort in the aftermath of Irma and our mission to alleviate hunger in southwest Florida. We are grateful for organizations like the Fort Myers Miracle that share in our passion to help others in our communities. Together we will make a difference our community and beyond!”

The Minnesota Twins, the parent club of the Miracle, also pitched in to help with Irma relief. They partnered with the Boston Red Sox to contribute $200,000 to the Southwest Florida Community Foundation. Miracle ownership and fans have also donated over $20,000 to various charities for Irma relief.

“It was great to see the entire community come together in the wake of the worst storm to hit this area in a long time,” Miracle general manager Chris Peters said. “The aftermath of Irma was tough, but the worst brought out the best in Southwest Florida and helped speed up the recovery process. We are happy to have helped and our hats go off to these great organizations.

The Miracle will host an Irma Recovery/First Responders night at the CenturyLink Sports Complex in April. Opening Night is April 5, when the Miracle host the Charlotte Stone Crabs.

Minors teams raise over $300,000 for disaster relief

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Minor League Baseball Charities today announced the distribution of over $180,000 in cash to charities assisting with recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. Minor League Baseball’s 160 teams combined to raise over $300,000 for disaster relief.

The city of Corpus Christi, Texas, and the surrounding communities suffered significant damage during Hurricane Harvey. As a result of Minor League Baseball’s fundraising efforts, the Corpus Christi Hooks, the Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, made a significant donation to the Coastal Bend Disaster Recovery Group and will be making donations to Little League programs in Port Aransas, Rockport, Refugio, Aransas Pass and Ingleside to help the leagues repair facilities and purchase equipment that was damaged or lost in the storm.

“We are overwhelmed with gratitude at the generosity of teams across Minor League Baseball as our industry meets the needs of those who have come into harm’s way,” said Corpus Christi Hooks Vice President of Sales and Marketing Andy Steavens. “These funds will help fuel recovery in the Coastal Bend as the calendar turns to 2018. It’s a long process, but we’re pleased and privileged to help and proud to be a part of this region and Minor League Baseball.”

“These donations are another example of the collective power of Minor League Baseball and our 160 teams across the country,” said Courtney Nehls, Assistant Director, Community Engagement, for Minor League Baseball. “In times of need, whether a natural disaster or otherwise, our organization and its teams have proven time and time again that together, our charitable efforts help build stronger communities.”

With the devastating flooding that took place in Houston, Minor League Baseball Charities made a significant donation to the Houston Astros Foundation to assist with its disaster relief projects, and with guidance from the Astros Foundation, made donations to the Houston Police Department’s Blue Santa Program, the Houston Food Bank and the Houston Children’s Charity, which will provide beds and linens to children when they return to their homes.

As Hurricane Irma cut a path across Florida, three Florida State League communities and one Southern League community saw extensive damage, and Minor League Baseball raised over $50,000 for relief assistance in those areas.

The Fort Myers Miracle, the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, split a donation from MiLB Charities between eight worthy organizations in their community: The Harry Chapin Food Bank, Everglades Wonder Gardens, Goodwill, Lee County Schools, Midwest Food Bank, Naples Zoo, New Horizons of Southwest Florida and the Southwest Florida Community Foundation.

The Charlotte Stone Crabs, the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, donated their portion of the Hurricane Irma relief funds to the United Way of Charlotte County to assist with their continued recovery efforts.

The St. Lucie Mets, the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the New York Mets, split their donation between the Mustard Seed Ministries, SAFER St. Lucie and the United Way of St. Lucie County.

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Double-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, donated their portion of the Hurricane Irma relief funds to the Trinity Rescue Mission Women and Children’s Center.

In addition to the $180,000 distributed by Minor League Baseball Charities, Minor League Baseball teams made donations totaling over $120,000 directly to relief organizations including the Red Cross, The Salvation Army and United Way Worldwide.

RiverDogs Get in Holiday Spirit with “Season of Giving” Initiative

CHARLESTON, S.C. – It’s the “season of giving,” and the Charleston RiverDogs are getting in the holiday spirit. The club has pledged to donate a dollar to one of four local Lowcountry charities for each ticket sold as part of a group outing at The Joe for the upcoming 2018 season, through Friday, December 22.

For every group ticket plan of 25 or more, picnics of 50+, suite rental, and Riley Park Club group of 10+ sold by the 22nd, the RiverDogs will donate a dollar per ticket to either the Lowcountry Food Bank, Charleston Animal Society, the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, or the Palmetto Military Support Group at the choice of each customer.

In the same spirit of giving, the RiverDogs will also be offering holiday flex plan deals during the month of December. Packages start at just $50 and included five undated grandstand vouchers, good for almost any game during the 2018 season, along with the choice of a RiverDogs hat, shirt, or the option to donate $10 to one of the four charities. A package that includes ten undated vouchers will run at $85.

Sounds Donate to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee on Giving Tuesday

The Nashville Sounds announced today that, in partnership with BUSH’S® Beans, they will provide a donation to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee as part of #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration, on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

Daytona Tortugas Make Donation for Giving Tuesday

Lake Monsters Free Family Fun Fest November 18th

The Vermont Lake Monsters will be hosting their fifth annual FREE Family Fun Fest on Saturday, November 18th from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm in the Blue Ribbon Pavilion at the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction.

Join CHAMP and the Lake Monsters for a morning of FREE fun and activities that will feature:

  • A special appearance by everyone’s favorite mascot, CHAMP, who will be on hand to take pictures, and sign autographs
  • Fan-favorite inflatable games including the speed pitch and obstacle courses
  • CHAMP coloring and activity stations
  • Free hot dogs for fans in attendance, while supplies last, courtesy of McKenzie Country Classics & Freihofer’s
  •  A wide variety of snakes, lizards and other reptiles to see, hold and take pictures with, thanks to 802 Reptiles
  • Raffles with lots of great prizes to be given away

Even though it is a free event, the Lake Monsters are encouraging all attendees to bring at least one non-perishable food item as we host the New England Ford Dealers’ Fill-A-Ford truck, with all food being donated to the Vermont Foodbank.

RiverDogs Host Fourth Annual Trick-or-Treat Movie Night Down at The Joe

CHARLESTON, S.C.- With Halloween just around the corner, the Charleston RiverDogs are getting in the spirit of the season with the fourth annual Trick-or-Treat Movie Night featuring Disney’s “Moana” from 6-9pm on Friday, October 27 at Joe Riley Park.

The night begins with trick-or-treating around the Riley Park concourse starting at 6pm, followed by the showing of Disney’s 2016 animated hit starting at 7 on the video board. Admission for the event is $5 a person or a donation of five or more canned food items for donation to the Lowcountry Food Bank. Members of the MUSC Health Kid’s Club also get in free.

Trick-or-treaters are encouraged to dress up as a “Moana” character and young fans will have the opportunity for a meet & greet with Moana and enjoy a fire juggling show as part of the evening’s festivities.

2017 Perdue Strike Out Hunger Challenge Delivers Record 180,000 Meals In Fight Against Hunger On Delmarva

SALISBURY, MD. – As part of a company commitment to hunger relief, Perdue Farms teamed with the Delmarva Shorebirds – the Class A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles – and three Delmarva food banks for the annual season-long 2017 Perdue Strike Out Hunger Challenge on Delmarva to deliver a record 180,000 meals across Delmarva communities.

“We’re proud of the collaboration we have with the Delmarva food banks, the Shorebirds and its fans, and the community at-large,” said Kim Nechay, executive director of The Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation. “The way in which everyone responded to the Strike Out Hunger Challenge again this year reflects the passion and commitment our communities have for helping those in need.

“We’re delighted that the Strike Out Hunger Challenge continues to provide a large platform to raise awareness about the problem of hunger on Delmarva and provide much-needed relief to those in need,” she said.

The 2017 Perdue Strike Out Hunger Challenge on Delmarva provided the forum to continue the awareness and community engagement that began with Perdue’s sponsorship of the 2011 South Atlantic League “Perdue Strike Out Hunger All-Star Game” promotions. Since then, the Shorebirds and food banks have embraced the Strike Out Hunger Challenge to generate more three quarters of a million meal equivalents for those in need on Delmarva.

“It’s amazing that the Strike Out Hunger campaign made such a significant jump (40,000 meals) over last season,” said Jimmy Sweet, assistant general manager of the Delmarva Shorebirds. “The Shorebirds look forward to working with Perdue moving forward to surpass 200,000 meals next season.”

To drive this year’s Perdue Strike Out Hunger Challenge on Delmarva, Perdue Farms issued a $15,000 challenge grant funded by the Perdue Foundation – the charitable giving arm of the company – to benefit the Eastern Shore Branch of the Maryland Food Bank, the Food Bank of Delaware and the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.

Each of the food banks were required to engage the Delmarva community to raise the equivalent of 10,000 meals in order to claim their equal share of the first $10,000 of the Foundation challenge grant. This included any combination of pounds of food collected, funds collected and donated, or volunteer hours throughout the duration of the Shorebirds’ season.

Additionally, Perdue also donated $10 for each time the Shorebirds’ pitchers struck out an opposing batter up to $5,000.

“Eastern Shore residents challenged by hunger continued to find support through community partnerships pledging to donate food, funds and their time through volunteerism in support of the 2017 Perdue Strike Out Hunger Challenge,” said Jennifer Small, managing director of the Eastern Shore branch of the Maryland Food Bank. “Our collaborative efforts have helped provide Maryland’s hungry with more than 260,000 meals. This initiative remains a pivotal part of the Maryland Food Banks’ ability to meet the daily needs of those who struggle to feed their families.”

As Chad Robinson, director of strategic initiatives for the Food Bank of Delaware in Milford, explains, “Strike Out Hunger has been a vital part of summer for the Food Bank of Delaware. The challenge from Perdue and the Delmarva Shorebirds helps us to ensure that we are able to feed hungry Delawareans throughout the summer months, when donations can be low. It also presents a great opportunity for families to have an easy way to give back, as they enjoy America’s greatest pastime.”

Charmin Horton, branch manager of the Foodbank of the Eastern Shore in Tasley, Va., said the partnership helps provided much needed service to more than 12,000 people. “Our long-term partnership with Perdue and now the Shorebirds has enabled us to provide much-needed food and programs to those facing food insecurities here on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. These programs provide meals and nutrition education to families, children and seniors who are currently facing issues of hunger.”

D-Braves present donation to God’s Storehouse

August 12, 2017

DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Braves presented God’s Storehouse with a donation of nearly $2,000 prior to the team’s game against Bluefield Friday, August 11. The Braves raised $1,992.88 from the first ever Danville Braves 5K presented by Planet Fitness held earlier this season on July 15.

“We were very pleased with the turnout and the results of our first ever 5K,” said D-Braves Community Relations and Sales Manager Betsy Haugh. “We appreciate the community’s support of this event and are thrilled that we are able to make this donation to a great local non-profit organization in God’s Storehouse.”

65 runners and walkers competed in the Danville Braves 5K presented by Planet Fitness. The event was sponsored by Planet Fitness, HomeTrust Bank, and the Brick Running & Tri-Store, with all proceeds benefiting God’s Storehouse, a non-profit food pantry serving Danville and Pittsylvania County.

RCS Pinellas and the Threshers Hit a Home Run for Families in Need

CLEARWATER, Fla. – RCS Pinellas and the Clearwater Threshers are teaming up to serve families and those in need in Pinellas County. On Monday, August 14, Threshers players will be volunteering at the RCS Food Bank in Clearwater in support of the RCS mission to feed the hungry, help families facing homelessness return to self-sufficiency, and empower survivors of domestic violence.

“How incredibly generous and kind of the Threshers to take time away from their busy season to join us in our daily fight against hunger in our community,” said Kirk Ray Smith, BHS, MHS President and CEO, RCS Pinellas. “Here at RCS Pinellas, we depend on the help of over 2,500 volunteers each year to accomplish our mission. Without individuals and groups like the Threshers there would be no RCS. The real home run is seeing children and families run home with a bag full of groceries!”

As members of the Philadelphia Phillies minor-league system, Threshers players participate in the Step Up Community Service Program – which provides opportunities to volunteer and encourages the young athletes to give back to their local communities. The partnership of RCS and the Threshers represents the service-minded goals of both organizations.

The programs at RCS Pinellas include:

RCS Food Bank – provides nutritious food to our Pinellas County neighbors who need help stretching their grocery budget.

RCS Grace House – helps individuals and families facing homelessness return to self-sufficiency. We provide families with 8 weeks of apartment style housing and other wrap-around services.

RCS Thrift Store – provides high quality shopping experiences for our community and program participants at little or no cost.

The Haven of RCS – provides safety, security and support for women and children facing domestic abuse.

Strike out hunger with a Food Drive, July 27

Did you know roughly one out of every eight Americans struggle with hunger? The Toledo Mud Hens are teaming up with Bush Brothers to host a food drive on Thursday, July 27, in conjunction with National Baked Beans Month.

Fans are encouraged to bring canned food items to Fifth Third Field on Thursday and drop them off at the collection bins located at Guest Services on the main concourse. All donations will be taken to the Seagate Food Bank for distribution to the people they serve.

MONDAY: Bisons to hold ‘Food Drive’ in honor of National Baked Beans Month

Fans, did you know July is National Baked Beans month? As part of National Baked Beans Month, the Bisons are teaming up with Bush’s Beans and the Food Bank of Western New York to help strike out hunger.

Prior to the Herd’s game against the Durham Bulls on Monday, July 24 (7:05 p.m.), the Bisons will be holding a Food Drive to help feed those in need in the local community.

Fans can bring their non-perishable food items to the collection bins located outside of the Coca-Cola Field Ticket Office. In return for their much-needed donations, fans will be given a coupon for Buy-One, Get-One Free Ticket coupon for Monday’s game between the Bisons and the Bulls!

The Food Bank of Western New York was founded in 1979, after a group of religious and community leaders came together to develop an effective and comprehensive way to fight hunger in the region. Today, they assist as many as 129,000 individuals in a month through our 329 member agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, youth programs, group homes and senior centers.

Dash to host “Fill the Stands with Cans” on July 21

July 14, 2017

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (July 14, 2017) – The Winston-Salem Dash are proud to announce, in conjunction with the Piedmont Triad Apartment Association (PTAA) and WXII, the return of “Fill the Stands with Cans” for an eighth consecutive season at BB&T Ballpark. On Friday, July 21, before the Dash’s 7 p.m. game against the Salem Red Sox, PTAA volunteers will be positioned outside the gates of BB&T Ballpark collecting non-perishable food items and cash donations to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.

Last year, the Dash were among several organizations to help the PTAA provide a total of 17,832 meals to people in need in the northwest North Carolina area.

“Every summer Second Harvest’s resources are stretched thin because so many children who rely on free and subsidized meals at school are out of school for the summer,” said Jon Lowder, Executive Director of the Piedmont Triad Apartment Association. “That means that Second Harvest and its partner agencies have to supply more food to needy families, and we are so fortunate to be able to partner with three organizations that are dedicated to addressing the community’s needs. This year, we hope to raise 20,000 meals, and we’d love to reach 25,000.”

As a thank you from the Dash and the PTAA for helping support Second Harvest Food Bank of NWNC, any fan who brings a non-perishable food item or cash donation to Friday’s game will receive a ticket voucher that can be redeemed for any Dash home game in August. To redeem your ticket, simply bring your voucher to the Baker Roofing Box Office, which is open leading up to all home games and from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday on non-gamedays.

“We are incredibly excited about hosting ‘Fill the Stands with Cans’ again this year,” said Dash President Geoff Lassiter. “The PTAA does a fantastic job of organizing this event every season, and their goals intertwine with our organization’s community initiatives, so it’s truly a perfect match.”

Gates will open at 6 p.m. for Friday’s 7 p.m. game with the Red Sox, with tickets still available for purchase for as low as $8 by calling the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visiting wsdash.com. Be sure to stick around after the game for a spectacular postgame fireworks show and kids run the bases, powered by New Balance Winston-Salem. Friday is also the first Star Wars Night in BB&T Ballpark history.
