Roswell Park to help Bisons fans protect their skin with free sunscreen at games

May 5, 2018

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Buffalo Bisons are teaming up to help Bisons’ fans protect themselves from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays, which can burn and damage the skin. Damaged skin cells can lead to skin cancer, the most common cancer in the U.S.

Throughout the Bisons’ 2018 season, sunscreen will be provided to game attendees to make it as easy as possible to protect their skin, even on cloudy days when the sun can still do damage. Six sunscreen dispenser stations will be available throughout Coca-Cola Field in downtown Buffalo.

“Always protect your skin by wearing sunscreen, and choose one that has an SPF (sun protection factor) of 30 or higher. Be sure to reapply it every 1-2 hours,” says Ilene Rothman, MD, Interim Chair of Dermatology and Associate Professor of Oncology in the Department of Dermatology at Roswell Park. “Many people think that because we’re in Buffalo, their risk of developing skin cancer is low, but skin cancer is the most common cancer even in Buffalo. Plenty of sun damage occurs on a cloudy day, and just one sunburn causes significant harm to your skin.”

“There’s nothing better than sitting back and enjoying a warm, sunny day at the ballpark. Thanks to our great partnership with Roswell Park and the installation of these free sunscreen dispensers throughout Coca-Cola Field, our fans will be able to easily protect themselves while cheering on the Bisons throughout the season,” said Mike Buczkowski, Vice President/General Manager of the Buffalo Bisons.

Skin cancer awareness days will also be held thoughout the season, kicking off with Melanoma Monday on Monday, May 7. Roswell Park representatives will be on hand to educate fans about the signs and symptoms of skin cancer, prevention and early detection. Monday, May 7, 2018, is Melanoma Monday. The national awareness day focuses on melanoma, which is the deadliest type of skin cancer.

Friday, May 25 is Don’t Fry Day. It’s part of the national effort to encourage sun safety awareness. The public will have an opportunity to learn more about skin cancer and get sunscreen samples during both events.

PawSox Foundation to Support “Empire Gives Back” Night on May the Fourth

May 3, 2018

After the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders announced that they will present “The Empire Gives Back” at PNC Field on their annual Star Wars Night May 4, and that they will honor Red Sox Nation’s “villain du jour,” Tyler Austin, who survived testicular pediatric cancer at age 17, the PawSox/Skeffington Charitable Foundation will make a donation of $2,004 to the RailRiders’ charitable efforts, and will send memorabilia that can raise additional funds at their charity auction.

“The Red Sox and Yankees have one of the great rivalries in the world of sport,” said PawSox President Dr. Charles Steinberg, “And they have also come together in compassion and unity in the face of real enemies, such as pediatric cancer. While fans enjoy the battle between the lines, we are grateful for the oncology research that has allowed Tyler Austin to participate in such battles. We wish the best of health to him and to all who battle these horrible diseases.

“We have been inspired by displays of sportsmanship demonstrated when cities of teams have been injured, and we have been keenly aware of the display of generosity by the late George Steinbrenner and his family during the annual Red Sox/Jimmy Fund Radiotelethon that benefits the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

“When it comes to matters that matter, our organizations can do a world of good, especially when we work as one.”

Throughout the world of baseball, May 4 is often a Star Wars night, in a play on “May the force [or fourth] be with you.”

The PawSox, who are visiting their rivals on May 4, will hold their own Star Wars night on Saturday, June 9. It is the fastest-selling game of the year.

The PawSox welcome the Yankees’ Triple-A Club to Pawtucket this Saturday for a 6:15 pm and Sunday at 1:35 on “Evil Empire Weekend” at McCoy Stadium. Tickets and information are available via pawsox.com, by calling (401) 724-7300, or in person at the McCoy Box Office.

The EMPIRE GIVES BACK on May the Fourth

April 24, 2018

MOOSIC, PA. (April 24, 2018) – On May the Fourth, in a ballpark not too far away, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders embrace the rebellion as the Empire Gives Back at PNC Field. In conjunction with their annual Star Wars Night, the RailRiders will host the Pawtucket Red Sox at 6:35 p.m. and will work with two tremendous organizations to raise funds and awareness.

The first 2,500 fans through the gates will get a Chance Adams bobblehead, presented by Geisinger. The RailRiders will wear custom Star Wars-themed jerseys, which will be auctioned off to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network.

Before the PawSox’s plans for the weekend become fully operational, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is also pleased to partner with Tyler Austin, a former RailRider and current New York Yankee. Austin was diagnosed with testicular cancer at age 17, and, thanks to early detection and after several surgeries, he is now cancer-free. In April, which is Testicular Cancer Awareness Month, Austin created a fundraiser for the Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation. Sean Kimerling, the Emmy Award-winning anchor of WB 11 Sports in New York and pre-game announcer for the Mets. Sean died from testicular cancer on September 9, 2003, at 37 years young.

In addition to the jersey fundraiser benefiting the Children’s Miracle Network, a limited number of t-shirts from Austin’s April fundraiser will be for sale with all proceeds benefitting Tyler Austin’s effort for the Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation.

All fans who purchase a “Ball Out” t-shirt that evening will be entered into a raffle at PNC Field. One autographed Tyler Austin baseball will be given away every inning, and, at the end of the game, one fan will win four tickets to an upcoming Yankees game and will have the chance to meet Austin.

In honor of Austin’s jersey number 26, the RailRiders will also donate 26% of all walk-up ticket sales to his fundraising effort.

The RailRiders will also have a dunk tank set up on the concourse at PNC Field featuring Darth Vader. All proceeds from the dunk tank will be included in the donation to the to the Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation.

“There is nothing evil about this empire,” stated Josh Olerud, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Team President and General Manager. “We have the chance to be leaders on many different levels, and the ability to partner with Geisinger, the Children’s Miracle Network as well as Tyler Austin’s fundraising efforts for the Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation, shows that the force of good is strong in Northeast Pennsylvania’s Minor League Baseball club.”

The RailRiders are committed to cancer research, fundraising and awareness through the SWB Pinstripes Foundation. On April 18, the club began a text-to-donate campaign, benefitting Stand Up To Cancer. Fans can make a $5.00 donation by texting SWBRR to 40202.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, will host the Pawtucket for a two-game series beginning on May 3 and 4 prior to a two-game set at McCoy Stadium in Rhode Island beginning May 5. Providence Personal Injury Attorney, Rob Levine & Associates Partners with MiLB, PawSox, for Third Year, in Rob Levine Kid’s Corner Program

April 5, 2018

Providence Injury and Disability Attorney Rob Levine continues his partnership with the Pawtucket Red Sox at McCoy Stadium for the 2018 season. The partnership, initiated by Rob Levine himself in the Fall of 2016 after attending a Red Sox game at Fenway Park, is coined the Rob Levine Kids Corner. The program invites children and community organizations focused on youth to attend a game at McCoy Stadium with Levine’s compliments. Rob Levine’s Kids Corner provides 20 tickets to every (approximately 70) home game during the PawSox season.

Kids Corner attendees receive VIP treatment while at McCoy. “We’re giving organizations and kids within our community the opportunity to attend a game, experience this all-American pastime, and create unique memories at McCoy Stadium,” says Levine. “Dozens of community programs have benefited from the Rob Levine Kids Corner, including the Boys and Girls Club, the local YMCA’s, school groups, and nonprofit organizations focused on youth and children. We encourage all community youth groups and programs to get involved so we can give this opportunity to as many children as possible, “Levine further states.

Levine is passionate and devoted to public services not only through his career as an attorney but also as a retired police officer, paramedic, and military police officer. This sponsorship among others, allow Levine and his Team to advocate for the community in which they live, work, and play. Rob Levine’s Kids Corner highlights their mission of helping those in need from a legal capacity as well as giving back to the community in many ways as often as he can.

“Thanks to Rob Levine, we are thrilled to be able to offer the Rob Levine’s Kids Corner and expand our guest list to provide many more individuals and organizations with a first-class experience at McCoy Stadium,” states Rob Crain, Sr VP of Sales and Marketing for the PawSox. “Rob Levine’s generosity and commitment to community, is amazing and we are proud to have him and his Team as our community partner,” Crain further states.

About Rob Levine and Associates

We know him as the Heavy Hitter and in his current occupation as an Attorney, helping individuals who have been hurt in an accident or who are disabled. However, you may not be aware of Rob Levine’s background. From an early age, Rob knew he had a calling. At sixteen, when most kids his age were simply out being kids, he became part of the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps, holding a position of EMT (emergency medical technician). He was promoted within a year to Crew Chief. During his nine years of commitment and dedication, he rose through the ranks to become second-in-command of a fifty-person rescue squad. This was the beginning of his call to serve.

The next phase of Rob’s career took him to college for Administration of Justice and to the Rhode Island Army National Guard. There he served three years as a military police officer. After his national service and graduating from college, he took a step toward serving the community. He was hired as a police officer by the Central Falls Police Department. Seeing the many needs of the citizens of Central Falls during his first six months on the force, Rob decided it was time to do more. He began a writing project for a grant and secured sixteen thousand dollars for the department’s first K-9 Drug Enforcement unit. Upon his appointment as the K-9 Officer, he went to California for formal training. In addition to his patrol duty, Rob and his dog were instrumental in fighting the ever-present drug problem in the city.

His police work was not the only thing he was focused on, Rob also concentrated on his personal development. Rob began to attend law school, was learning how to fly helicopters, practicing in a Robison R-22, helicopter. After graduating from law school Rob retired from the police department and began to practice law continuing to help those in need. Rob also continued to feel the need to serve the community as a volunteer and became a Ski Patroller. Not being fully satisfied with his medical background as an emergency medical technician, Rob went back to school to become a paramedic. Rob now works and volunteers his time as a paramedic, riding on an ambulance, trying to make a difference.

His background and focus has always been on helping those in need and giving back to the community in many different capacities as often as he can. Rob Levine and Associates are personal injury attorneys helping individuals who have been hurt in an accident or who are disabled. The firm practices law and services Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut on injury cases. Rob Levine and Associates also handles social security disability and veterans disability cases on a regional and national level as well. Our team is available 24/7 to help you. PawSox Foundation to Present “A Veterans Home Run: A 5k Walk ‘N Run” on Saturday Morning, May 19

March 15, 2018

The PawSox Foundation will again present “A Veterans Home Run: A 5K Walk ‘n’ Run” to benefit those who have served in the military. The 7th annual event is scheduled for Saturday, May 19 at 9:30 a.m., starting and finishing at McCoy Stadium. Participants receive complimentary t-shirts, food, and tickets to a PawSox game.

The event will benefit Operation Stand Down, which serves 67,800 veterans and their families, as well as other organizations. The PawSox will also again recognize the “21 Heroes,” the Pawtucket veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Vietnam War.

One of the premier road races in the area, the PawSox 5K will start from the McCoy Stadium parking lot, weave through the streets of downtown Pawtucket, and finish with “a touch of home” on the PawSox’ actual baseball diamond.

“We have enjoyed our community partnerships with Operation Stand Down, 21 Heroes, and the many organizations who provide needed care to our veterans,” said PawSox Senior Vice President/Club Counsel Kim Miner, who also oversees the foundation. “Our 2017 race had more than twice as many participants as our 2016 race, and we are eager to see the number increase again in 2018.”

“Our veterans and those currently serving in the armed services give so much to us to ensure that our freedom and the American Dream endure,” said Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien. “Partnering to promote causes to support our veterans is the least that we can do. Thank you to the PawSox for working with our local organizations and investing in our community. And thank you to Operation Stand Down and Heroes 21 for ensuring that our veterans are never left behind.”

Erik Wallin, Executive Director of Operation Stand Down RI added, “Operation Stand Down Rhode Island is grateful for the continued support of the PawSox Foundation. The PawSox have demonstrated a commitment to, not only recognizing the service of our local veterans, but also to join OSDRI in giving local veterans in need a hand up. The organization has been truly committed to serving those who have served and giving back to our local heroes.”

The race is presented by National Grid, Planet Fitness, and Coast 93.3. Participants (up to 500) who register on pawsox.com will receive a free race t-shirt. Special pre-sale entry fees start today and continue through March 31. Participants may sign up at normal fees thereafter. On the day of the race, registration will open at 7:30 am and last-minute sign-ups will be accommodated for $5 more per person.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. Participants receive free tickets to the May 23 PawSox game at 6:15 p.m. vs. the New York Yankees’ affiliate (Scranton/Wilkes-Barre), and are invited to take part in a pre-game parade and award ceremony.

Welcome to clubphilanthropy.com!

Minor League Baseball clubs have been actively involved in their communities for many years. For the first time, their activities and contributions will be chronicled on this site.

Clubs don’t publicize all of their activity, so these stories represent a mere fraction of the contributions MiLB clubs make to their communities every year.
