Kroger presents Macaroni Day: Friday, July 26

The first 2,500 fans at the Friday, July 26 game will receive a box of macaroni and are encouraged to use it as a noisemaker to cheer on the team. After the game fans can take the macaroni home for a tasty meal or donate it back to the Kroger Food Drive Friday event! Kroger will be matching the amount of boxes given away on Macaroni Day with an additional donation of 2,500 boxes! All Kroger Food Drive Friday events benefit the Northwest Ohio Food Bank.

Chasers to Hold Auctions for Oklahoma Tornado Relief for Remainder of Homestand

OMAHA, Neb. – The tragic events in Moore, Oklahoma over the past few days have hit close to home with the Omaha Storm Chasers, not only because of the storm and tornado history associated with the state of Nebraska and the Omaha Metro but also due to the Pacific Coast League membership of the Oklahoma City RedHawks, whose home park is located just fifteen minutes away from the city of Moore.

As a way to show their support, the Omaha Storm Chasers will use the remainder of this current homestand that runs through Thursday to attempt to raise money by holding silent auctions of Storm Chasers, Kansas City Royals and Major League Baseball merchandise. All proceeds will go to the relief efforts in Moore, Oklahoma, and fans will have the opportunity to place their bids on items varying from autographed jerseys, baseballs, bats and game-used cleats from MLB Players/Hall of Famers such as:

  • Joe Torre, Former Player and Manager, current Director of Baseball Operations for MLB
  • Alex Gordon, current Kansas City Royals star and former Omaha Royals outfielder
  • Wil Myers, 2012 Minor League Player of the Year and former Omaha Storm Chasers outfielder
  • Ryne Sandberg, Major League Baseball Hall of Famer

“Our thoughts are with all those affected by this unthinkable tragedy, and we hope the money raised during the rest of our homestand will help the area of our Pacific Coast League teammate,” said Martie Cordaro, President and General Manager of the Omaha Storm Chasers. “We believe our fans will join us in this effort to help this devastated part of our great country.”

Bids will be accepted during all three remaining games of the homestand, with the option for fans to purchase the item at an elevated donation price. The auction will close following the completion of Thursday’s series finale with the Padres, and the winners of each item will be contacted Friday morning

Also during the remainder of the homestand, the Omaha Storm Chasers will be informing fans in attendance of the ways they can get involved in the relief efforts without bidding on the merchandise. Fans can Text REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief, which helps people affected by disasters such as the recent tornadoes in Oklahoma.

All money that is raised will be donated through the Home Run Foundation of Greater Omaha to the American Red Cross. The final amount will be presented in a ceremony when the Storm Chasers visit the Oklahoma City RedHawks for their series beginning a week from today on May 28. The Storm Chasers players and front office are exploring additional ways to help the affected area of Moore.

2013 Timber Rattlers Golf Outing for the Miracle League of the Fox Valley

Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to hold charity golf outing on June 24

GRAND CHUTE, WI – Hit the links with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to benefit The Miracle League of the Fox Valley. The Midwest League affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers will hold their annual golf outing on Monday, June 24 at Shamrock Heights Golf Course in New London.

A foursome may register for $350. Foursomes have the opportunity to play with a Timber Rattlers player, but that chance is based on a first come, first serve RSVP. Individuals may register for $100.

The outing tees off with registration beginning at 8:00am and a shotgun start at 9:00am. Lunch is included with registration and will be served at the turn. Snacks will be available after the round of golf from 2-4pm. A raffle drawing and awards presentation will conclude the event.

The league has an Opening Day Celebration set for Saturday, June 8 from 10am to noon at the John Wollner Fox Cities Miracle Field in Appleton’s Memorial Park. The Miracle League of the Fox Valley starts its fourth season of play on Monday, June 10 at Miracle Field.

RiverDogs Buddy up with the Summerville Miracle League

Charleston-RiverDogsOn Saturday, May 11th, the Summerville Miracle League welcomed the Charleston RiverDogs to their facilities in Summerville for a morning of fun, and baseball. Ten players from the 2013 RiverDogs team volunteered as “Buddies” for the league, assisting the young players hit the ball, run the bases, and play the field.

“It was amazing to watch these kids on the field,” says Community Relations Intern, Lily Belter. “They were having so much fun! And it was great to see them interacting with the RiverDogs players.”

RiverDogs Donations Amounts to Peanuts

Charleston-RiverDogsLeave it to the Charleston RiverDogs to come to the aid of one of their own.

“Tony the Peanut Man,” the moniker for Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park’s long-time peanut vendor Anthony Wright, suffered a tremendous loss this week with a home fire as chronicled by local media.

Wright reportedly suffered approximately $10,000 in damages to his peanut-boiling equipment that included steel pots and other gear. They were located in the back yard of his West Ashley home.

The RiverDogs, where Tony consistently toils in front of large crowds with his specially-made t-shirt and renowned sweetgrass hat with no top, will donate to him a portion of the club’s peanut sales for this entire four-game homestand (April 19-22). The club will also have a donation station for Wright at Guest Services throughout the homestand. Piggly Wiggly has also pledged to replace all of the peanuts that he lost in the fire.

“We feel for Tony,” said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols. “He’s been a Riley Park staple for so long that we felt that we had to do something for him. We’re certain that many of his customers will come to his need during this delicate time.”

The club will also have a between-inning salute for Wright to help raise awareness when the entire Riley Park audience will be invited to participate in singing his famed composition (“Haaaay, haaaay; what I saaaay”) that he includes while dancing his jig after a sale of one of his bags of roasted or boiled peanuts. The ceremony will also acknowledge the contribution the RiverDogs will be making to Tony and hopefully encourage fans to lend a hand and make their own donation.

Snappers Donate Over $1,000 to Cancer Research

Funds From Jersey Auction Donated to Mercy Foundation

BELOIT, WI – On Thursday, May 16th, the Beloit Snappers presented the Mercy Foundation with a donation of $1,150 for breast cancer research. The Snappers raised this money during the team’s pink jersey auction on Mother’s Day, May 12th.

Mercy Health Systems is a group whose mission is to inspire positive change and healing through philanthropic giving. Their purpose is defined as “to make a difference by creatively connecting your philanthropic goals with opportunities to support healing in the broadest sense in every community Mercy serves.”

“We’re just happy that we’re able to contribute to this great organization,” said Snappers Community Relations Director Natalie Tobey. “This is an extremely important issue to all of us and we wanted to do whatever we could to help the Mercy Foundation in its fight to find a cure.”

The pink jersey auction was the first of four jersey auctions the Snappers will be doing this year. The team will pay tribute to local firefighters and police with a Guns N’ Hoses jersey auction on June 2nd. They will be sporting military themed threads on July 14th for a National Guard Jersey Auction. Finally, an A’s themed jersey auction is scheduled for August 18th, with the team wearing jersey’s similar to those of their Major League affiliates.

Silver Hawks Ready to Knock Cancer out of the Park

Your Silver Hawks host the annual Pink in the Park this Saturday and Sunday to honor all those affected by breast cancer. The annual event at the Coveleski Regional Stadium is presented by Memorial Regional Breast Care Center, B100 and ABC 57. A special pink Silver Hawks’ replica jersey on will be given out to the first 500 women 18 and older Saturday and Sunday.

Habitat for Humanity to Hold 50/50 Drawings at Blue Rocks Home Games

WILMINGTON, DE – The Wilmington Blue Rocks are pleased to announce that Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County will hold a 50/50 raffle at each of the remaining Blue Rocks home games during the 2013 season. Proceeds from each raffle go to benefit the Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County.

“This is a brand new concept that will be introduced to our fans, but it is something that has worked at other major league and minor league professional sports venues,” said Kevin P. Linton, director of community affairs for the Blue Rocks. “Fans will have the opportunity to participate in something that is very economical and could win them some extra money, all while supporting a great organization here in the Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County, here in Delaware.”

The 50/50 raffle will be executed by 50/50 Central, a company based out of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Fans can purchase tickets two different ways while visiting Frawley Stadium during each Blue Rocks game. Fans may purchase tickets at the 50/50 kiosk, which is located on the main concourse across from the Quarry Team Store. Additionally, people can purchase tickets throughout the game from the seats from a 50/50 vendor walking around the seating area.

Tickets can be purchased from the time gates open until the seventh inning. The 50/50 drawing will take place at the end of the seventh inning, via an electronic draw. Tickets can be purchased in the following increments: 1 for $2, 3 for $5, 10 for $10 and 40 for $20. Fans do not need to be present to win the raffle jackpot each night. Jackpots will vary depending on the sales of the tickets each game.

G-Braves Announce Benefit for Tripp Halstead

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – The Gwinnett Braves have announced plans to raise funds for Tripp Halstead, a two-year old Barrow County, Georgia boy who suffered a brain injury when he was struck by a tree limb during Hurricane Sandy last October. The G-Braves will host a 5K Race, dubbed “Tripp’s Trot,” as well as “Tripp Halstead Night” at Coolray Field on Saturday, June 22.

“Tripp’s Trot” will take place in the Coolray Field parking lot at 8:00 AM on June 22. Those interested in registering may do so by visiting trippstrot.com. The cost is $25 if registering before May 22, $28 if registering before June 1, $30 if registering before June 20 and $35 on the day of the event. A Fun Run will also be held that day, costing just $20 to participate.

A race day raffle for G-Braves’ autographed items and a special Pre-Game Parade on the field for all race participants are also planned for June 22. That night, the Gwinnett Braves will host the Syracuse Chiefs for a 7:05 PM game. Prior to the game, country singer/songwriter Jordan Covington will play a special acoustic set.

The Portland Sea Dogs in conjunction with the Buck’s Naked BBQ and 99.9 The Wolf will hold the “Big Fat Food Drive” on Thursday, May 30th to benefit the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

The Sea Dogs will host the New Hampshire Cats at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field on May 30th. Fans are encouraged to bring non perishable items to the game. Every fan who makes a donation will receive a ticket voucher to use for a future Sea Dogs game for the 2013 season.

Buck’s Naked BBQ will be at the park, with a table and their mascot, where fans can register throughout the game to win Buck’s Naked BBQ Gift Cards.

CCSNH, Fisher Cats Foundation Award $5,000 to Local Schools

Eight schools recognized for perfect Reading Challenge participation

New-Hampshire-Fisher-Cats-logo-2013The Community College System of New Hampshire (CCSNH) and the Fisher Cats Foundation awarded $5,000 to local schools on Monday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. A total of eight schools were honored on the field for having one-hundred-percent of their students complete the Fisher Cats Reading Challenge presented by the Community College System of New Hampshire during the 2012-2013 academic year.

The eight schools from across New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts were recognized as finFisher-Cats-Foundation-logo-2013alists during Monday’s ceremony for having every student complete the challenge by reading five books outside their normal school curriculum. Each school was entered into a drawing to win one of three cash prizes, totaling $5,000, from the Fisher Cats Foundation. Salisbury Elementary School earned the top prize of $3,000; Smyth Road Elementary and St. John Regional Junior High School  were each awarded a $1,000 prize for their all-encompassing efforts during the challenge.

Their dedication shows a true commitment to the improvement of their education both in the classroom and at home.”

The support of the Fisher Cats organization adds a special dimension and reward for the students who earn tickets in recognition of their reading achievement and for the schools that took home prizes.”

On Monday night, faculty members of Ashby Elementary School, Errol Consolidated School, Maple Avenue Elementary School, Milan Village School, Russell Elementary School, Smyth Road Elementary School, Salisbury Elementary School, and St. Joseph Regional Junior High School were all celebrated for their success.

During the school year, the Fisher Cats and CCSNH reached out to more than 55,000 students in approximately 150 schools to present the CCSNH Reading Challenge. Students needed to read at least five books outside of their normal school curriculum in order to earn individual recognition at a Fisher Cats game. Upon completing the challenge, each student received a pair of tickets, courtesy of CCSNH, to a Fisher Cats Reading Challenge game and the opportunity to participate in a pre-game parade around the field.

RICHMOND, VA – The Richmond Flying Squirrels will partner with Victory Golf Events to hold their first charity golf tournament, the Flying Squirrels Charity Golf Open on Monday, June 17th at the Dominion Club. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Miracle League of Richmond. The tournament will be played with teams of four competing in a scramble format along with a celebrity teammate. Celebrity teammates will include Flying Squirrels players, coaches and staff members as well additional celebrities from the sports and media community in Richmond.

“Hosting a golf tournament is something we have wanted to do since we arrived in Richmond,” said Flying Squirrels’ Vice President & COO Todd “Parney” Parnell. “We always have a lot of guys on the team who love to play, and it is a great way to get many of our other friends in the community involved to aid the effort of the outstanding folks at the Miracle League of Richmond. Dash to hold annual Community Build May 18

Joint effort to include Lowe’s and Habitat for Humanity

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (MAY 7, 2013) – The Winston-Salem Dash will partner with Lowe’s Home Improvement and Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County to assist in the annual Community Build on Saturday, May 18, from 7:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Dash players, staff members and front office team members will join volunteers from both Lowe’s and Habitat for Humanity in the construction of five houses at two separate locations in the Winston-Salem area.

The build project is truly a community effort, so Dash fans are encouraged to help, too. To register as a volunteer, call Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County at (336) 765-8854. Everyone’s efforts will be honored during the Dash’s game on Saturday, July 27, at 7 p.m. A special video will be shown at BB&T Ballpark in dedication to this year’s Community Build.

The first location at 1825 Willow Oak Way features three houses, one of which is very near completion. The other two homes are at 922 and 924 Roosevelt Street. One of these houses, donated to Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County, is undergoing a complete reconstruction, while another home will be built on the property. This donated lot was big enough to divide in half to accommodate a second house.

All five houses are at various stages of their construction, so volunteers will be assigned to a number of different tasks. Volunteers will assist with flooring, installing trusses, installing shingles into the roof and landscaping, among other things.

The Dash are continuing their drive toward one million fans at BB&T Ballpark, and this milestone will be reached sometime in May. For tickets, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.

Tigers Make Donation to Mayor’s Pantry

NORWICH, CT- The Connecticut Tigers are pleased to announce a donation to the Mayor’s Pantry of Norwich of $5,420 from parking revenue collected at Dodd Stadium.

“Norwich Human Services is pleased to accept this check from the CT Tigers on behalf of our Norwich food pantries,” said Director of Human Services Beverly Goulet. “We appreciate this very generous donation and also wish to thank the CT Tigers fans for their support!”

Tigers Vice President & Assistant General Manager Eric Knighton (far left) and Vice President & General Manager C.J. Knudsen (far right) made the presentation on Friday. Goulet, Norwich Human Services Account Clerk Sheila Molocko and Norwich Human Services Administrative Coordinator Janice Thompson (all pictured) accepted the check on behalf of the city.

“It’s vitally important for the Tigers to be an active member of our community,” said Knudsen. “Norwich does so much for us and this is a great way for us to give back!”

The Connecticut Tigers are the NYPL affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play a 76 game (38 home, 38 away) that opens on June 17 against the Lowell Spinners, affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. 2013 season tickets and tickets to the 2013 NYPL All-Star Game are now on sale!
