Sea Dogs to Host Autism Awareness Day on April 20

March 29, 2019

The event will be held with the support of the University of New England Occupational Therapy graduate students. The UNE students will create and facilitate activities for children and families in a special “Sensory Room” that will allow children with autism to self-regulate using movement, calming sensory input and fidget items. Earplugs will also be available.

In addition to the “Sensory Room,” early entrance into the ballpark will be available for any families who wish to avoid crowds.

The goal of the event is to raise autism awareness and to help people with autism perform the occupations of everyday life.

Tickets to the game are available at the discounted rate of $6.00.

Fans attending the April 20th game are asked to wear the color orange to show support for Autism Acceptance.

The Sea Dogs open the 2019 season on Thursday, April 4th at 6:00 PM.

Safe Kids Upstate Day is Sunday, April 7th

The Greenville Drive are excited to host the annual Safe Kids Upstate Day at Fluor Field on Sunday, April 7th in celebration of Safety Patrol members across Greenville, Pickens, and Oconee Counties.

First pitch against the West Virginia Power is at 3:05 PM, and the first 300 kids to arrive when gates open at 2:00 will receive a complimentary, custom-fit bike helmet.

All afternoon, the Drive and Safe Kids Upstate have plans for fun activities, family safety exhibits and giveaways! The interactive exhibits include Buddy’s Safety House, a Teen Driving 3D Road Course Challenge, Hands Only CPR Demonstrations, and a chance to meet with local firefighters and law enforcement. Great prizes like drones, scooters and giant pool inflatables will be given away throughout the day.

Renovations to four youth ball fields set for April 11

TROY, NY- The Tri-City ValleyCats and their partners, BlueShield of Northeastern New York and Hannaford Supermarkets, are set to renovate four youth ball fields on Thursday, April 11th during the 9th Annual ‘4 in 24’ youth field renovation project. Upon completion, over 36 fields will have been revamped by this strong community initiative which has positively impacted thousands of youth ballplayers in the Capital Region and beyond.

The four leagues to be renovated on April 11 will be Green Tech High Charter School, Rensselaer Little League, Broadalbin Little League, and Brunswick Girls Softball. The project will be focused primarily on the infield surface, with the mission to allow for a safe place to learn and play ball.

The scope of work includes laying brand new grass, rebuilding the pitcher’s mound and home plate areas, grading and raking the baselines, installing a new pitching rubber, plate, bases and more.

“First I want to express our gratitude to BlueShield of Northeastern New York and Hannaford Supermarkets for being tremendous partners in this initiative,” said ValleyCats General Manager Matt Callahan. “We all share in the common goal of a bright future for our youth, and this project goes a long way to provide the resources to help them succeed.”

Both longtime supporters of the ‘4 in 24’ project, BlueShield and Hannaford make the renovations possible through the aid of necessary monetary resources, and volunteer efforts of their staff.

“With more than 30 fields renovated over the last nine years, BlueShield’s commitment to the community continues to provide our region’s young athletes access to healthy activities as they grow,” said Nicky Chlopecki, Manager, Community Relations, BlueShield of Northeastern New York. “As a longtime partner of the Tri-City ValleyCats, our employees are eager to rebuild fields alongside the players as they work to make a positive impact in our community.”

“Hannaford is committed to promoting healthy lifestyles at all ages and youth sports are an ideal way to instill the importance of activity and wellness in our community’s youngest members,” said Hannaford Supermarkets Community Relations Specialist Brian Fabre. “We are pleased to continue this partnership with the ValleyCats and BlueShield as we provide local ball players with not only improved facilities, but also the opportunity to grow as individuals and members of a team.”

The renovations will commence at daybreak on Thursday, April 11, with four crews split up among the fields. A press conference will be held at Green Tech High at 9:00 a.m. to officially kick off the project.

The efforts are also supported by Admar Construction Equipment, Brightview, Profile Products / Turface Athletics, and SiteOne Landscape Supplies, who are contributing some of the necessary equipment and materials. Additional support comes from ‘Cats Care, the ValleyCats’ arm of the New York-Penn League Charitable Foundation.

Green Tech High Charter School

Opening Day: April 1, 2019

League Information: Green Tech’s baseball team currently plays their home games off site because they don’t have a useable field at their high school. The ValleyCats and their partners will transform an old softball field at the school into a baseball field for their team to call home. The field will also be used for Eastern New York Travel Baseball league games.

League Statement:

“Green Tech is very excited to be getting a new baseball field that the young scholars will be able to play on. It has been tough the last four years finding a place to practice that didn’t require players to travel. Now with a field, the team will operate like a normal program. Rensselaer Little League

Field Address: 112 Lawrence Street, Rensselaer, NY, 12144

Opening Day: April 6, 2019

League Information: Rensselaer Little League is utilized by 150 players across 14 teams. Fideli Field has had drainage issues and is need of a leveling of the infield playing surface. The current baselines are not aligned properly, and the pitcher’s mound and home plate area is in disrepair. With these renovations, the field will receive a much needed facelift to the infield surface with brand new sod, infield mix, a complete overhaul of the pitching and home plate areas, and more.


Broadalbin Little League

Field Address: 30 First Avenue, Broadalbin, NY, 12025

Opening Day: May 4, 2019

League Information: The work will focus on the Majors Field at Broadalbin, a league that serves over 160 players with 13 teams. The league was in the process of flipping the current field to avoid sun glare, but was unable to finish due to bad fall weather.

Brunswick Girls Softball

Opening Day: April 13, 2019

League Information: With 13 teams and over 180 softball players, the renovations to Field 2 at the Brunswick Girls Softball League will go a long way in maintaining a safe field for the athletes to learn and grow.

Scrappers Set To Host 2019 Youth Camp

NILES, OH – The Mahoning Valley Scrappers are excited to announce that they have partnered with Vlad Pediatrics to host a three-day Youth Baseball Camp July 30 through August 1.

The Scrappers Youth Camp provides kids ages 8-13 a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from some of the very best players in Minor League Baseball. All exercises and instruction will be taught by Scrappers players and coaching staff, and will focus on baseball fundamentals, sportsmanship and healthy competition. Boys and girls of all ability levels are encouraged to participate and learn from the Scrappers players and coaches in a small group setting.

Camp registration includes instruction each day from 9am until 12pm, a ticket to the Thursday, August 1st Scrappers game against the Aberdeen IronBirds, on field recognition prior to the August 1st game, a camp t-shirt, and a lunch the final day of camp. To ensure that your child receives individualized attention, the Youth Baseball Camp has been limited to 100 campers and early registration is highly encouraged. The 2019 Scrappers Youth Baseball Camp is $100 per child.

Spokane Indians and Banner Bank Team Up to Help Local Students Attend College

SPOKANE, Wash. – For the fourteenth consecutive year, Banner Bank and the Spokane Indians will team up to reward deserving high school seniors with college scholarships. Five area students will be selected to receive a $500 scholarship based on achievement in leadership, community involvement, scholarship, and character.

“Hard work and dedication deserve to be rewarded-that’s why we are pleased to again partner with the Spokane Indians to award five deserving students with college scholarships,” said Keith Weathermon, Banner Bank Senior Vice President.

Any high school senior in the graduating class of 2019 attending a high school within Spokane County and Kootenai County and/or a member of one of the six (6) regional tribes (the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, the Colville Tribe, the Kalispel Tribe, the Kootenai Tribe, the Nez Perce Tribe, and the Spokane Tribe) is eligible for this scholarship. Emeralds Set to Hit a Home Run in Reading

The Eugene Emeralds are excited to announce they are once again partnering with Oregon Medical Group and Wildish for Sluggo’s Home Run Reading Challenge. Starting this week, the program is designed to motivate students to become better readers by completing reading assignments to earn free Ems tickets!

Last year, 56 schools signed up for the Reading Challenge and a record 11,528 completed the program. “The growth of the Reading Program over the 10 years here at PK Park has been incredible,” said Ems Assistant General Manager Matt Dompe. “It is one of our biggest community outreach programs year after year, and it’s a great way to kick off the Emeralds season with games filled with kids that completed the reading challenge.”

For 2019, the new and improved Reading Challenge assembly will take on a Super Hero theme as Sluggo travels faster than a speeding green bear all over Lane County to spread the joy of reading. At the end of the assembly, teachers will give their students a 10-task reading goal, which students will track with a Sluggo-themed bookmark.

Students who complete their bookmarks receive two free tickets to a Eugene Emeralds baseball game this summer. In addition to the tickets, students will be invited to go down onto the field at PK Park and have a chance to meet some of the 2019 Emeralds players!

“We are committed to helping build healthier communities, and the connection between literacy and health is strong. Oregon Medical Group is excited to once again be part of Sluggo’s Home Run Reading Challenge. Ocean View Little League wins Field Renovation Project

As part of The Youth Field Makeover Project, Ocean View Little League in Norfolk has won a contest in which the Tides organization will renovate their baseball field.

Ocean View received over 2,300 votes to win the contest. This field makeover will include an upgrade to the playing surface and is set to take place this spring.

Since the inaugural renovation in 2012, the Tides have renovated 13 fields in the Hampton Roads community: Ocean View Little League (Norfolk), Smithfield Recreation Association (Smithfield), Bennett’s Creek Little League (Suffolk), Phoebus Little League (Hampton), Shore Little League (Nassawadox), Cradock Little League (Portsmouth), Little Creek National (Norfolk), Gloucester Youth Baseball (Gloucester), Surry County Pony Baseball (Surry), Deer Park Youth Field (Newport News) and Eason’s Crossroads Ballpark (Gates, NC), Churchland Little League (Portsmouth) and Thalia/Malibu Rec (Virginia Beach).

The project is made possible thanks to the Tides Youth Baseball Fund, a program established by the Tides in 1990 as a way to raise money for youth baseball and softball programs in Hampton Roads. In addition to assisting with field renovations, the Youth Baseball Fund also helps local teams and leagues with travel expenses. The Youth Baseball Fund is partially financed by scoreboard announcements at Harbor Park throughout the season.

Norfolk opens the 2019 regular season on Thursday, April 4th with a 7:05 game at Gwinnett before opening the home portion of its schedule on Thursday, April 11th with a 6:35 contest vs. the Toledo Mud Hens. 3,000 Books Being Donated by the Whitecaps Community Foundation to Area Schools

COMSTOCK PARK, MI – The Whitecaps Community Foundation will donate 3,000 books to six West Michigan Public Schools this month in an effort to encourage children to read during March is Reading Month and beyond!

The books were selected with the help of GRPS educators and will be delivered as a surprise to CA Frost Elementary and Grand Rapids Montessori on Friday, March 15. Then on Wednesday, March 20, MLK Jr. Elementary in Muskegon Heights and Aberdeen Elementary in Grand Rapids will receive the books. Lastly, on Thursday March 21st the Whitecaps Community Foundation will visit Southwest Community Campus and North Park Montessori.

These six schools were selected to receive the free books because of their designation as high priority elementary schools; many of their pupils do not have access to resources such as books. With this donation, every child at these six schools will receive one free book.

This is the fourth year of the book donation program and in that time more than 10,000 books have been donated.

The book donation is a part of the Whitecaps Community Foundation’s Reading Program, which helps area school children enjoy Whitecaps baseball while promoting reading. Children from West Michigan schools who read 15 minutes a day, during the month, can attend a Whitecaps game for free in April through June. The Foundation delivers all support materials, such as reading tracking calendars and posters, to all participating schools at no cost. Last year’s Reading Program had more than 67,000 K-6 area children participate from 322 schools. Nearly 19,000 complimentary tickets were given this season to children and their families in West Michigan.

The Whitecaps Community Foundation, the nonprofit extension of the West Michigan Whitecaps, is a 501c3 organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children and their families by providing them with access to social, educational and recreational programs that will have a positive impact on their futures. With the help and generosity of community partners and members, the Whitecaps Community Foundation continues to strive to make the West Michigan area a better place to grow, learn, and thrive.

In 2018, through a combination of donations and fundraising efforts, the Whitecaps Community Foundation gave more than 1.4 million dollars to local children and their families through programs such as the reading program’s book donation and many others.

Micah Hyde Charity Softball Game to be played at Sahlen Field, June 2 (1pm)

The inaugural Micah Hyde Charity Softball Game benefitting his IMagINe for Youth Foundation will be held at Sahlen Field, home of the Buffalo Bisons on Sunday, June 2 (10 a.m.). A 2017 Pro Bowl player, Micah Hyde will be joined by his Buffalo Bills teammates and other Buffalo legends and celebrities as they battle it out on the diamond for charity.

Micah Hyde shares, “Growing up, I was fortunate to be heavily involved in sports. Though I was given the opportunity to do so, I witnessed the obstacles my family had to face in order to provide opportunities, not only for myself, but my siblings as well. With all of these activities came costs that were not easy for my mother to attain. I can remember being responsible for insurance and participation fees, travel costs along with purchasing the equipment needed. If it were not for my mom doing all that she could do, along with a support system that we were able to fall back on, I would not be where I am today. I know there are many kids that face similar circumstances, but unfortunately, they do not have a support system to depend on. That’s why the IMagINe for Youth Foundation is here to give children the support they need in order to participate.

Looking back, being involved in athletics was more than Xs and Os. Fightins, Capital BlueCross Announce Return of Outstanding Student Program

The Reading Fightin Phils, in partnership with Capital BlueCross, have announced the return of the Capital BlueCross “Live Fearless” Outstanding Student Program for the 2019 season. The program is designed to raise funds for participating schools in the club’s surrounding community.

The Outstanding Student Program is a unique incentive-based program which recognizes and rewards hard-working students. Through the program, students are given an opportunity to celebrate their achievements with their families at a designated Fightin Phils home game. The Fightins have given back $9,400 to local schools since the program began.

Schools can register now to take part in the Outstanding Student Program this season, at no cost to the schools.

Each school decides its own method of selecting its “Outstanding Students,” and every student recognized by his or her school receives two FREE tickets to a Fightins game, an Outstanding Student Medal from a Fightins player, and a photo with the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor during a pregame Outstanding Student Ceremony. This year’s ceremonies will take place on April 25, April 29, April 30, May 7, May 12, and May 16.

For each free ticket that is used, and for any additional tickets that are purchased by family members through the Capital BlueCross “Live Fearless” Outstanding Student Program, the participating school receives $1 back.

Santa Teresa High School Recipient of 2019 Howdy’s Field of Dreams

EL PASO – February 28, 2019 – The El Paso Chihuahuas and Howdy’s are proud to announce that Santa Teresa High School is the recipient of the 2019 Howdy’s Field of Dreams, a program designed to help renovate a baseball facility in need of repair in the southwest region.

The ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled to take place Friday, March 1, 2019 at 5 p.m. on the high school’s baseball field. The ceremony will precede the in-state rivalry game between Santa Teresa and Gadsden High School.

“We are blessed and fortunate to be selected as this year’s recipient of the Howdy’s Field of Dreams,” said Santa Teresa Varsity Baseball Coach Gil Bailon. “Our team has been together for several years and we all cannot wait to step onto this incredible new field this year and many years in the future.”

Representatives from Howdy’s, the El Paso Chihuahuas, including Chico, and members of the Warriors’ baseball team will be in attendance.

“Howdy’s is proud to support the communities we serve, especially through our ongoing support to the ‘Field of Dreams Project’ with the El Paso Chihuahuas. Over the past five years, it has been rewarding to watch the high school fields at Irvin, Jefferson, Bel Air, Andress and the Ernie Rascon Memorial Field in Anthony come to life,” said VJ Smith, Corporate Affairs, Marathon Petroleum. “We are proud to be a part of these projects and it gives Howdy’s great pleasure to see the new field at Santa Teresa High School complete.”

“It is an honor to work with a company like Howdy’s who sees the importance of community investment,” said MountainStar Sports Group Senior Vice President and General Manager Brad Taylor. “Coach Bailon and Santa Teresa are perfect recipients for this project as there was a need to improve their field, their desire to perpetuate it, and their sincere appreciation to be selected.”

The renovations to the field began on February 11, 2019 and were completed by the Chihuahuas grounds crew. The renovations included the installation of 8,000 square feet of new sod, laser grading the infield clay, and the addition of new clay in the batters boxes and pitcher’s mound.

The Field of Dreams project completed its sixth year.

OKC Dodgers Baseball Foundation Hosting Trivia Night March 30

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Dodgers Baseball Foundation is hosting a Trivia Night Saturday, March 30 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, with proceeds providing scholarships for the OKC Dodgers Rookie League.

The Dodgers welcome everyone to participate in a night of “Beer, Baseball and Brainiacs” beginning at 7 p.m, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Each team can comprise of up to eight people, and registration cost is $200 per team.

Cash payouts will be awarded at the end of the night to the top three teams. The format will consist of 10 rounds of 10 questions, with categories ranging from baseball, pop culture, local history and much more.

Raffle tickets will also be available for various prizes, including autographed memorabilia and special experiences available during an OKC Dodgers game in 2019.

In addition to the trivia, the event will be showing the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and the Los Angeles Dodgers game on the center field video board.

The OKC Dodgers Rookie League was formed in 2018 as a partnership between the Oklahoma City Dodgers and Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation in order to help bolster youth baseball participation in the community as well as foster an environment that emphasizes leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship. After Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation was forced to cancel its baseball league due to low participation in 2017, the OKC Dodgers Rookie League had over 220 participants across four divisions in its inaugural season.

Funds from Trivia Night will be used to provide scholarships and help cover registration costs for those who would like to participate in the Rookie League but may not be able to due to financial constraints.

BlueClaws, Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore Announce Community Partnership

The BlueClaws have announced a partnership with the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore.

The Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore and the Lakewood BlueClaws announced an expanded community partnership that includes a Girl Scout Family Night scheduled at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood on Friday, June 21, at 7:05 p.m. Thousands of Girl Scouts of all ages, their families and friends will participate in the evening that will feature activities that showcase programming offered by Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore and the impact those programs make in girls’ lives.

The baseball game is the signature 2019 event of the updated partnership between the Girl Scouts and the BlueClaws. “The Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore have always enjoyed the strong support of the BlueClaws,” said Eileen M. Higgins, CEO, Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore. “Our new community partnership takes our collaboration to another level and will directly benefit our girls.”

Staff from both the Girl Scouts and the BlueClaws are working closely together to ensure the game against the West Virginia Power is unlike any other Girl Scout baseball experience. Planned highlights include pre-game and in-game activities such as an on-field parade, contests, exciting Girl Scout exhibitions and post-game fireworks. Gates open for pre-game activities at 6:00 p.m.

“The BlueClaws are very excited to partner with the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore for what promises to be a full night of fun on June 21st,” said BlueClaws Team President Joe Ricciutti. “Girl Scouts and their families from all around the Shore will be able to take part in the best of the BlueClaws – from the boardwalk games, to great food, and fantastic post-game fireworks show!”

Tickets for Girl Scout Night are $11 each and include a hot dog, fountain soda, ice cream and one free boardwalk game. There is an optional on-field overnight open to registered Girl Scouts for an additional $10 and includes a movie, snacks and continental breakfast the following morning. Ticket proceeds will benefit local programs and activities for Girl Scouts from Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

Autism Awareness Day Set For April 13

The Rochester Red Wings have partnered with Autism Speaks for a second year in a row to host Autism Awareness Day at Frontier Field on Saturday, April 13 when the Wings host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at 1:05 p.m.

The Red Wings and Autism Speaks aim to create an environment that will allow families dealing with Autism to enjoy a day at Frontier Field while also raising awareness for Autism, a disorder that affects one in 59 American children.

Senior Coordinator of Autism Speaks, Jessica Joanis, explained the importance of an event like this:

“Every April Autism Speaks celebrates World Autism Month with autism-friendly events and educational activities around the local community to increase understanding and acceptance and foster support. Autism Speaks has partnered up with the Rochester Red Wings for a second year in hosting an Autism Awareness Day. I hope you will join us for the game on Saturday, April 13 to help us go blue for Autism during the month of April.”

Some components of Autism Awareness Day are as follows:
– Lower volume levels throughout the stadium along with other fan-friendly adjustments
– In-game production will be altered to minimize abrupt sound effects and video board displays
– Fans are asked to refrain from bringing “noise makers” that day
– A limited number of blue pom-poms will be available at the Autism Speaks table to substitute for noise makers
– A Safe Zone located in Club 3000 will be open all game long for children in need of a quiet reprieve from the game.
– Designated Autism Aware Section, reserved exclusively for guests with family members on the Autism spectrum.
– Various items and ballpark experiences available via Live Source with proceeds benefitting Autism awareness

Hot Rods Announce Inaugural Charity Dinner

The Bowling Green Hot Rods, Class-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, today announced their Inaugural Charity Dinner and Auction to be hosted on Thursday February 21st. The event will take place at the Corvette Museum and feature special guest, Cincinnati Reds Hall of Famer and former NL MVP George Foster.

The dinner will also help raise funds and awareness for three area charities; Center for Courageous Kids, Playing for Mason, and ‘Boys to Men’ Program. “We are excited to be partnering with these three organizations and help them reach so many others with what they do in the community.” Said Eric C. Leach, Hot Rods General Manager & COO. During the 2018 season the Hot Rods donated over $350,000 last year back into the South-Central Kentucky community and did over 1,700 hours of volunteerism. “Giving back is part of our staff culture and what we are all about. Each organization has a huge impact and that is why we chose them.”

The night will feature a pre-dinner autograph session and meet and greet with George Foster, silent auction, dinner, speakers, and also a live auction where fans can bid on one of kind experiences and memorabilia. 100% of the proceeds from the event will be equally shared with all three of the selected charities.
