Graduating high school seniors from each of the league’s 14 markets competing for over $10,000
ST. PETERSBURG, FL – The Class-A Short-Season New York-Penn League and its member clubs are proud to announce that the league’s philanthropic arm, the NYPL Charitable Foundation, will once again award over $10,000 in scholarships this summer to deserving high school graduates from the league’s 14 markets.
Now in its fifth year, the 2013 NYPL Scholarship Contest is open to any graduating senior from a public or private high school within the league’s footprint. Any student who has been accepted at a two or four-year college or university, vocational school, or technical education institution is eligble. Applicants will be judged based on academic performance, volunteer and extracurricular activities, and the impact their local NYPL club and Minor League Baseball have had on their lives.
The scholarship contest will consist of two stages – a local round and a divisional round. In the local stage, students will apply directly to their local NYPL team, with one applicant chosen by each of the 14 teams to advance to the divisional/final round. The 14 finalists will be separated by the division of the team they represent. The winning application from each of the NYPL’s three divisions (McNamara, Pinckney and Stedler) will receive the top prize of a $2,500 scholarship. All other finalists will receive a $250 book award.

High school seniors interested in entering the 2013 Scholarship Contest can obtain the official application from the Jamestown Jammers front office located at Diethrick Park, by clicking here or by visiting the league’s official website, New York-Penn League.com.
The deadline to submit applications to the Jammers front office is June 28, 2013. Each club’s winner, including the three $2,500 scholarship recipients, will be selected in late July and honored at a game in August.
The New York-Penn League and its 14 member clubs created the New York-Penn League Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, in 2003. The mission of the Foundation is to provide focus and support for the collective and individual charitable and community efforts of the New York-Penn League, its Clubs, and their staff.

SALT LAKE CITY (May 20, 2013) – The Salt Lake Bees, in conjunction with the Utah State Office of Education, will host Prevention Dimensions Day at the Bees vs. Memphis Redbirds game on Tuesday, May 21 at 10:35 a.m. The Bees will welcome more than 11,000 students to this 10th annual event at Spring Mobile Ballpark which promotes drug and alcohol prevention.
The Mud Hens Scout Experience, presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods, is a custom learning program created especially for Scouts, wrapped around a great Mud Hens game. The first Scout Experience dates of 2013 are Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1. Visit 
The Portland Sea Dogs in conjunction with the Buck’s Naked BBQ and 99.9 The Wolf will hold the “Big Fat Food Drive” on Thursday, May 30th to benefit the Good Shepherd Food Bank.
The Sea Dogs will host the New Hampshire Cats at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field on May 30th. Fans are encouraged to bring non perishable items to the game. Every fan who makes a donation will receive a ticket voucher to use for a future Sea Dogs game for the 2013 season.


SAN JOSE, CA– On Friday, May 31, the San Jose Giants will present the second annual Strikeout Violence Night at Municipal Stadium. The evening will once again center on an anti-bullying message. The San Jose Giants are excited to welcome back country artist Matt Kennon who performed at the inaugural Strikeout Violence Night. Festivities will include a pregame performance by Kennon, presented by KRTY, and a Junior Giants Peace Pledge Ceremony. Following the pregame events, the San Jose Giants will take on the Stockton Ports at 7:00 PM.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Indians will officially kick off their 2013 slate of Boy and Girl Scout events with the Tribe’s first ever Circuit of Fun Scout Night. This year’s new event is set for Saturday, May 11 and will include an exciting pre-game Scout party before the Tribe’s 7:05 p.m. contest against Toledo.
The Tribe’s Circuit of Fun Night is only the first of four fantastic scouting events scheduled this year at Victory Field. The Indians will also be hosting overnight Boy Scout Campouts on Friday, June 7 and Friday, June 28, as well as a Girl Scout Campout on Friday, June 21.

(Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County Captains, the Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, has announced the line-up for the ninth Annual News-Herald Captains Charities High School Baseball Classic for 2013. Eight local teams will be featured in four games over two days at Classic Park. The event raises funds for Captains Charities, the non-profit charitable arm of the Lake County Captains organization, as well as the participating schools.
The Batavia Muckdogs and New York’s 529 College Savings Program Direct Plan have announced that they are once again partnering together with an essay contest for local students and children. The goal of the essay contest is to have kids submit an original essay on the topic of “what would you like to be when you grow up”. The Batavia Muckdogs front office staff will read over all entries, selecting the three (3) most compelling submissions. The three winners and their parents/guardians will then receive complementary tickets to the Tuesday, September 3, 2013 Muckdogs’ home game at 7:05pm. In addition to receiving a free ticket, the winners will receive a back-to-school backpack with supplies, courtesy of New York’s 529 College Savings Program Direct Plan. The three selected winners will also have the opportunity to throw out the honorary first pitches for the game.

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Michigan Baseball Foundation (MBF) is pleased to announce its 2013 grant class, which includes 30 organizations from nine counties in Mid-Michigan. The 2013 class received a total of $105,079, making it the sixth consecutive year that the grant total exceeded $100,000. In its six years of existence, the MBF grant program has awarded a total of $622,459 to non-profits of Mid-Michigan.
Since 2008, the Michigan Baseball Foundation has awarded 184 grants to deserving non-profit organizations across 14 counties.
