Tickets available now for Let’s Move Blair County Day with the Curve

ALTOONA, Pa. – Let’s Move Blair County Day is set to take place at Peoples Natural Gas Field on April 30 as the Altoona Curve face the Harrisburg Senators. The event begins when the ballpark gates open at noon and features a free health and wellness fair during the game, which starts at 1 p.m.

Tickets are available now for company groups who wish to sit together and area residents interested in attending. Deadline for groups to purchase tickets is April 16.

The day is sponsored by Let’s Move Blair County and the Healthy Blair County Coalition, two organizations whose mission is to help residents engage in healthy eating and more physically active lives while enjoying family fun. The Let’s Move Blair County effort is aimed at reducing the community’s health risks, such as diabetes, obesity and sedentary habits.

UPMC Altoona, Nason Hospital, and Tyrone Regional Health System lead this wellness effort along with area YMCAs, recreational centers and businesses. A free health and wellness fair will be on the ballpark’s concourse level.

The day’s festivities include a trophy presentation to the businesses who participated in the Corporate Wellness Challenge, a three-month, team-oriented weight loss effort involving 38 Blair County businesses and 819 people.

Cougars Donate Foundation Funds to Benefit Local Community Programs

GENEVA, Ill. – The Kane County Cougars have announced the three local organizations that will be receiving a monetary donation on behalf of the Kane County Cougars Foundation, Inc. in conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation. Focusing on the three pillars and areas of need in which the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation was built on, the Cougars will be donating to organizations involving children’s programs, homelessness and indigent healthcare.

“The Cougars would like to thank the Arizona Diamondbacks for their generosity,” said owner Cheryl Froehlich. “As we continue to grow our charitable initiatives through the Kane County Cougars Foundation, Inc. we are constantly looking for additional areas where we can make a difference. This donation from the D-backs will enable us to expand our community service programs.”

In the area of children’s programs, the Cougars will be making a contribution to the Kane Excellence in Education Partnership (KEEP). The KEEP program supports and assists the academic and social emotional needs of children throughout the Kane County area. Through collaborations with districts, businesses, government agencies and education organizations, KEEP provides scholarships, educational activities, at-risk programming and necessary educational services to schools in Kane County.

To assist homeless families in the area, the Cougars will make a donation to Bridge Communities located in Glen Ellyn, Ill. The mission of Bridge Communities is to help transition homeless families into a life of self-sufficiency by providing mentoring, housing and supportive services.

Community Nurse Health Center, in LaGrange, Ill. will be receiving the final portion of the donation to help assist the healthcare needs of the local community. Since 1921, Community Nurse Health Center has served residents of the western suburbs by providing direct medical and dental care as well as health education including medical preventive services, chronic disease management, acute illness services, prenatal case management and oral health treatments for low income children and adults.

“The Kane County Cougars are a true asset to their community and share similar values to us at the Arizona Diamondbacks,” said D-backs President and CEO Derrick Hall. “We are extremely proud of their efforts and know that initiatives such as this help teach young players the importance of giving back. In doing so, it is our hope that when they do reach the Major Leagues, their approach is aligned with ours. We applaud the efforts of Dr. Bob and Cheryl Froehlich as well as the entire Cougars front office.”

BlueClaws Charities Completes Grant Program With Grants to 35 Local Partner Organizations

LAKEWOOD, NJ – BlueClaws Charities, the official 501c3 organization of the Lakewood BlueClaws, handed out grants to 35 partner organizations as part of their 8th annual grant distribution.

BlueClaws Charities Community Partner organizations, all 501c3s that work with the BlueClaws throughout the year, were eligible to apply for a grant and all organizations that applied for a grant received one.

Each applicant was asked to detail a specific use for the grant, with the requirement that all money received from BlueClaws Charities stays in Ocean & Monmouth Counties. A complete list can be found below.

“BlueClaws Charities is excited to support such a wide variety of outstanding, local, non-profit organizations,” said Jim DeAngelis, BlueClaws Charities Executive Director. “These organizations are on the ground working with the underserved in our communities, doing spectacular work. It is an honor for BlueClaws Charities to be able to assist.”

BlueClaws Charities, a registered 501c3 organization, raises money at all 70 BlueClaws home games. A 50/50 raffle, special jersey auctions, and miscellaneous programs are used to raise money during games. The annual “Phillies Winter Banquet,” “ALS Celebrity Waiter Event,” “Bowling With the BlueClaws,” and the “BlueClaws Charities Nine & Dine Golf Outing” are additional fundraising initiatives conducted by BlueClaws Charities.

“Our fans and donors have been tremendously supportive of BlueClaws Charities over the years, and this year was no exception,” said DeAngelis. “We look forward to another successful season in 2017!”

  • ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia – For patient care services to help the 50 ALS patient families living in Monmouth & Ocean Counties.
  • American Heart Association – For their Heart Walk, a community event that encourages physical activity to help lower risk factors that can lead to heart disease.
  • Arc of Ocean County – For their mission of helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities be accepted and valued as citizens of the community.
  • Ashley Lauren Foundation – For assisting children with cancer and their families through direct financial assistance.
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County – For providing group mentoring activities to children on their waiting list of 180 children, enabling them to be involved with the agency.
  • Boot Campaign – For raising awareness and assistance for military families and personnel especially relating to the unique challenges they face during and post-service.
  • Caregiver Volunteers – For defraying the cost of criminal background checks completed on volunteers prior to assignments.
  • Cheer Dream Scoliosis Foundation – For assisting children with medical needs in their facility.
  • Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation – For improving the quality of life for children and adults affected by the diseases.
  • Daniela’s Wish – For granting wishes to sick children in the community.
  • Dottie’s House – For providing safe housing for women and their children through a program that empowers them to become self-sufficient and free from violence.
  • Easter Seals New Jersey – For installing a new ram and deck to an existing residential home for Easter Seals program participants.
  • Exit 82 Theatre Company – For funding their 2017 production season with selected shows.
  • Tom Giannattasio Jr. Memorial Fund – For providing scholarships for Brick Township High Schools.
  • Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore – For supporting their summer outreach initiative Girls Are Great, which sends underserved girls to camp.
  • Go4TheGoal – For helping kids with cancer in the program achieve their goals.
  • Interfaith Hospitality Network – For supporting their mission of providing emergency shelter and other urgently needed services to a growing number of homeless families in Ocean County.
  • Kids Need More – For enhancing the lives of children, families, and young adults coping with cancer and life-threatening illness.
  • LADACIN Network – For enhancing the program offerings at their Adult Day Habilitation program with a new horticulture gardening and farming experience.
  • Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski II Memorial Fund – For aiding their mission of aiding and assisting our wounded warriors and their families.
  • Mary’s Place By the Sea – For supporting the oncology massage program for women with cancer.
  • NJ Tears Foundation – For promoting pregnancy and infant loss awareness and support in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
  • Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity – For assisting in building a home for a single mother and two children in Ocean County.
  • Ocean County Family Support Organization – For assisting in their spring camping trip for youth partnership.
  • Ocean Partnership for Children – For assisting needy youth families during the holiday season.
  • Ocean County Shrine Club – For the Shriners Hospital’s Surgical Navigation System for Children’s Spine Injuries.
  • Ocean County YMCA – For helping kids, families, and seniors in the community find the assets they need in YMCA programs and memberships regardless of incomes and backgrounds.
  • Ocean’s Harbor House – For supplementing the salary of a Life Skills counselor working with homeless youths in their Transitional Living Program.
  • Opportunity Knocks – For assisting in long-term community placement of the disabled.
  • Parents of Autistic Children – For providing a challenger sports league designed to offer a socialization opportunity for disabled students and developing peers in Ocean and Monmouth Counties.
  • Piece of the Puzzle – For technology to help students with autism learn and practice vocational skills.
  • Raising Hope for Others – For assisting the organization with financial costs for organizing and running their major fundraising events.
  • Salvation Army – For funding their feeding program for local underserved.
  • St. Vincent DePaul Society – For helping to fund temporary sheltering of local homeless.
  • United Way of Monmouth & Ocean Counties – For acquiring hats, coats, gloves, and scarves to help keep children warm this winter.

BlueClaws Charities, in addition to the grant program, supports hundreds of non-profit organizations with gift package donations, golf outing hole-in-one sponsorships, and specialty organizations such as OCEAN, Inc., a federal program that assists the less fortunate in the community. The “Tickets for Kids Program,” another BlueClaws Charities initiative, donates over 2,000 tickets to under-served youths in Lakewood and elsewhere in Ocean County.

Community Partners raise money through a BlueClaws fundraiser outing and have the opportunity to volunteer in the FirstEnergy Park concession stands to raise additional funds. These organizations also receive exposure through on-field presentations, table displays, and on BlueClaws.com, plus they have special opportunities to hold events, such as charity walks, at FirstEnergy Park.

The BlueClaws are the Jersey Shore’s top stop for affordable, family entertainment. They have led the South Atlantic League and New Jersey in attendance in each year of existence and will reach the 7-million fan plateau in 2017.

3,142 Vaccinations Administered at PRMC’s Drive-Thru Flu Clinic

Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) would like to extend its thanks and gratitude to 3,142 people on Delmarva who were vaccinated against the flu during the Medical Center’s 2016 Drive-Thru Flu Clinic on October 13 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

PRMC appreciates the community making sure they “live well” through annual vaccinations against the flu. We also thank the Delmarva Shorebirds for our long-standing partnership and the use of the ballpark to host the Medical Center’s largest and best attended annual community healthcare event.

Drive-Thru Flu Clinic Returns Thursday Oct. 13

Peninsula Regional Medical Center’s Live Well “Drive-Thru” Flu Clinic is returning on Thursday, October 13, 2016, but as a single day event at Arthur W. Perdue (Shorebirds) Stadium at the intersection of Route 50 and Hobbs Road in Salisbury, MD. Vaccinations will be administered to individuals 13 years of age or older. A physician’s order is not necessary. A donation of $10.00 per vaccination is requested (cash only; exact amount is appreciated). This year’s shot is quadrivalent, meaning it protects against four strains of the virus.

PRMC’s Live Well Drive-Thru Flu Clinic will be held from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. only this one day, Thursday Oct. 13. Flu vaccinations are encouraged for persons over the age of 65, people with heart or lung disorders, immunosuppressant diseases or diabetes. Participants are encouraged to wear a short sleeved shirt that will provide easy access to the upper arm.

Fifth Third Field to Host AHA Walk/Run on Saturday

Dayton, Ohio – Fifth Third Field will host the American Heart Association’s Greater Dayton 5K Heart Walk/Run on Saturday, September 24th from 7:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon. A signature event of the American Heart Association, the Heart Walk/Run promotes physical activity and healthy living in an environment that’s fun for the whole family. All proceeds will go toward funding research and education involving the reduction of heart disease and stroke. Individuals or teams can register online at heart.org/daytonwalk or by calling Kim Doherty at (937) 853-3110.

The Walk/Run is specifically designed for children and adults of all ages and abilities. Day-of registration starts at 7:30 a.m., which is also when the gates open at Fifth Third Field. Before the event begins, families can roam the concourse or enjoy a fun and interactive health and wellness fair on the plaza. Sponsors will give out a heart-healthy snack and allow attendees to check blood pressure and help figure out body mass index (BMI). There will be inflatable games for children to enjoy, and Dragons mascots Heater and Gem will roam the concourse and take pictures with those in attendance.

Heart disease and stroke survivors are also encouraged to visit the survivor area, created especially for the “honored guests” of the Heart Walk. Special gifts will be available to survivors at the walk.

The third annual Kids Fun Run/Walk will begin shortly after 8:30 a.m. Opening ceremonies begin at 9:00 a.m. The 5K Race and Heart Walk is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.

Pedal to the Park on Sundays

Portland, Maine– The Portland Sea Dogs have announced a new partnership with the Bicycle Coalition of Maine to encourage fans to Pedal to the Park on Sunday afternoons. The Coalition will be offering its free Valet Bike Parking service.

The Valet Bike Parking service will be offered at all Sunday Portland Sea Dogs home games in 2016 (excluding the July 3rd night game). Valet Bike Parking is FREE to use, secure, quick, and the best way to get to the game. The Valet Bike Parking area will be located at the ballpark entrance at Hadlock Field on Park Avenue and will be open from 11:30am-4:30pm for Sunday home games.

“We are proud to partner with the Portland Sea Dogs to offer our FREE Valet Bike Parking service. Hadlock Field is an extremely bike friendly location, and we’re excited to to reduce traffic and parking congestion, while providing fans with a great way to get to the game,” stated Nancy Grant, Executive Director of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine.

Volunteers from the Bicycle Coalition of Maine will greet fans who ride their bikes to the game on Sundays. Each rider will complete a sign-in sheet with their contact information and will be given a wristband that matches the one placed on their bike. After having a great time at the game, show your wristband to the attendant and you’ll get your bike back just as you left it. Afterwards ride off into the sunset past everyone waiting in vehicular traffic.

For fans who are unable to bike all the way from their home, the Coalition has provided maps highlighting satellite parking areas and the best routes to the ballpark from around the Portland area.

‘Lather Up, Then ‘Batter Up’ with Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada (CCCN) & The 51s

Las-Vegas-51sThe Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets and the 2013 & 2014 Pacific Conference Southern Division Champions, announced today they have teamed up with Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada (CCCN) to offer complimentary sunscreen at Cashman Field during the 2015 baseball season. The sunscreen will be available beginning with the Big League Weekend “day game” between the Chicago Cubs vs. Oakland A’s on Saturday, March 14 at 12:05 p.m. CCCN medical oncologist Dr. Paul Michael will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the game.

CCCofNevadaFans will be able to protect themselves from potentially harmful UV-A and UV-B rays by visiting one of two CCCN sunscreen kiosks on the main concourse at the ballpark. Additionally, skin-safety messages will be displayed on the videoboard and public address announcements will remind guests to stay proactive with skin protection. Cashman Field ushers will also have a supply of complimentary sunscreen available for fans, so they may conveniently reapply during the game.

“Awareness as well as a preventative approach are critical in preventing skin damage and potentially skin cancer,” said James Kilber, executive director of CCCN. “So many of our local families enjoy a trip out to Cashman Field each year. We hope everyone will take advantage of the free sunscreen and skin safety messages this season as they cheer on the 51s to victory.”

The partnership offers complimentary SPF 30 sunscreen to the projected 300,000 plus fans that will visit Cashman Field throughout the summer. The 51s have 11 day games scheduled at Cashman Field during its 2015 season.

“We are excited with the partnership with CCCN and it will provide the fans at the ballpark an opportunity to apply sunscreen during the matinee games at Cashman Field,” 51s President/COO Don Logan said. “The awareness of skin cancer is very important and with the help of CCCN, it will provide a safer experience for both the players and fans this season.”

Ballpark to host 500 free flu shots, youth activities, team’s annual job fair, national anthem tryouts

Quad-Cities-River-BanditsThe Quad Cities River Bandits and Genesis Health System are inviting the Quad Cities community to join their team to protect the community from seasonal influenza, and to build a lineup that will make another memorable season for guests at Modern Woodmen Park. Community Day on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 31, will include 500 free vaccinations to protect against seasonal influenza, the River Bandits’ annual job fair, and auditions for national anthem singers.

“We hope people who haven’t yet gotten a flu shots this year will take this pitch out of the park,” said Ken Croken, vice president of marketing and corporate communications, Genesis Health System. “We know it has already been an active flu season locally and nationally, but the only real protection is a flu shot, and it isn’t too late to get that protection. And at this event, it will be free.”

The Genesis Flu-Free Quad Cities program – which the River Bandits and Main Street Amusements supported as part of a $50,000 donation to the Genesis Health Services Foundation in November – has provided flu shots to about 48,000 Quad Cities adults and children since the fall and protected thousands more indirectly. Nearly 9,000 elementary school children received free flu shots at their schools this fall.

“The River Bandits and Main Street Amusements have been proud to partner with Genesis Health System to make the family-friendly fun of Modern Woodmen Park become a positive and lasting impact for our community with programs such as Genesis Flu-Free Quad Cities,” said River Bandits owner Dave Heller. “Community Day continues our strong partnership to provide fun, health and wellness to entire Quad Cities region.”

The doors will open for all Community Day events at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31. All events will be on the suite level of Modern Woodmen Park. Information about each event are listed below.

500 free flu shots and Genesis events

Complications from seasonal influenza can be fatal for as many as 30,000 nationally in a single year. The youngest, the oldest and those with chronic conditions are at highest risk for serious complications. Each person who receives seasonal influenza vaccinations is believed to protect five people around them, including higher-risk individuals.

Genesis will also host a throwing clinic to prevent injuries in young baseball and softball players; free blood pressure checks; and a jump analysis for kids.

The Quad Cities River Bandits, Main Street Amusements and Professional Sports Catering, the food and beverage provider at Modern Woodmen Park, are seeking outgoing, hard-working, fun-loving, friendly people to assist fans and be a part of the team that will help make another memorable season for guests at the ballpark.

The River Bandits will hold tryouts on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 9 a.m. to noon for individuals and groups, including National Anthem singers, to perform and entertain fans with their talents prior to home games during the 2015 season.

National Anthem and other pre-game performance tryouts will take place in the Budweiser Champions Club at Modern Woodmen Park. Registration is first come, first served. Talents can range anywhere from singing, dancing, and comedy to miming, juggling or magic.

Everyone participating in the tryouts will perform their talent for a panel of River Bandits staff and local judges. Those talented enough to entertain crowds at River Bandits games this summer will be included in the show during the 2015 season.

Ticket plans, Kids Club and more on sale

Fans may learn about ticket plans and group outings, and purchase or renew ticket packages for the 2015 season. For children ages 14 and under, the River Bandits will offer another one-day special on 2015 Kids Club memberships. Normally $30 per child 14 and under, a membership will be $25 at Modern Woodmen Park on Saturday, Jan. 31. A Kids Club Membership includes a free bleacher ticket good for all River Bandits 2015 regular season home games, a membership card, a T-shirt, a 10 percent discount off purchases in the team store, an email newsletter with exclusive special offers and much more.

BlueClaws Charities Makes Mark Through Community Grant Program

Lakewood-BlueClaws-LogoBlueClaws Charities has completed its 6th annual grant process. After analyzing the applications, BlueClaws Charities handed out grants to 34 Community Partner organizations in Monmouth & Ocean Counties.

BlueClaws Charities, a registered 501c3 organization, raises money at all 70 BlueClaws home games. A 50/50 raffle, special jersey auctions, and miscellaneous programs are used to raise money during games. The annual “Phillies Winter Banquet,” “ALS Celebrity Waiter Event,” “Bowling With the BlueClaws,” and the “BlueClaws Charities Nine & Dine Golf Outing” are additional fundraising initiatives conducted by BlueClaws Charities.

Each organization, also 501c3s, becomes eligible for a grant through a season-long partnership with the BlueClaws.

“This grant program is the culmination of the BlueClaws Charities year and we are very grateful to everyone that supports the organization in any way,” said BlueClaws Charities Executive Director Jim DeAngelis. “Without the support of the fans and donors, we would not be able to aid our magnificent Community Partner organizations.”

The following non-profit organizations received a cash grant from BlueClaws Charities (alphabetical order): ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Red Cross (Jersey Coast Chapter), Ashley Lauren Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County, Caregivers Volunteers of Central Jersey, Central Jersey Blood Center, David’s Dream and Believe Cancer Foundation, Enable Inc., Exit 82 Theatre Company, Family Options Adoptions, Family Resource Associates, First Tee of Monmouth & Ocean Counties, Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore, Go 4 the Goal, LADACIN Network, Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski Memorial Fund, Monmouth County SPCA, Mya Lin Terry Foundation, NJ TEARS, Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity, Ocean County Shriners Club, Ocean County YMCA, Ocean’s Harbor House, Raising Hope for Others, RJM Sports Group, Saint Vincent DePaul Society of Ocean County, Salvation Army of Ocean County, Susan G. Komen For the Cure of Central & South Jersey, Tom Giannattasio Jr. Memorial Fund, United Way of Monmouth County, United Way of Ocean County.

All Community Partners that completed the grant application were rewarded with a grant. Each partner was asked to describe the program within their organization that would benefit from the grant, with the requirement that the grant be allocated to Ocean or Monmouth County.

BlueClaws Charities, in addition to the grant program, supports hundreds of non-profit organizations with gift package donations, golf outing hole-in-one sponsorships, and specialty organizations such as OCEAN, Inc., a federal program that assists the less fortunate in the community. The “Tickets for Kids Program,” another BlueClaws Charities initiative, donates over 2,000 tickets to underserved youths in Lakewood and elsewhere in Ocean County.

Community Partners raise money through a BlueClaws fundraiser outing and have the opportunity to volunteer in the FirstEnergy Park concession stands to raise additional funds. These organizations also receive exposure through on-field presentations, table displays, and on BlueClaws.com, plus they have special opportunities to hold events, such as charity walks, at FirstEnergy Park.

The Lakewood BlueClaws are the Jersey Shore’s top stop for affordable, family entertainment. They have led the South Atlantic League and New Jersey in attendance in each year of their existence. 2015 will be their historic 15th season of family fun.

Fifth Third Field to Host Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Dayton-DragonsFifth Third Field will host the Walk to End Alzheimer’s® on Saturday, October 11th. Check-in for the event begins at 8:30 a.m. on October 11. Opening Ceremonies begin at 10:00 a.m. and the walk will start at 10:15 a.m.

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. In 2013, more than 42,000 teams participated in nearly 650 walks across the United States, raising more than $55 million. The Walk provides a means for participants to learn more about Alzheimer’s and become involved in the cause.

Walk-to-End-Alzheimers-logoEach walker may participate in a ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s. Walkers will also have the opportunity to have team photographs taken.

A City of Dayton water truck will be on site and walkers may bring a water bottle to refill. Healthy snacks will be available.

Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. One-out-of-three senior citizens dies of Alzheimer’s. More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s.

Stand Up to Cancer at Fifth Third Field this Sunday

Fifth Third Bank will host Stand Up To Cancer Night at Fifth Third Field on Sunday, August 24! Tickets for Sunday’s 6 p.m. game between the Mud Hens and Louisville Bats can be purchased at 419-725-4367 or online.

The special games are part of the bank’s ongoing commitment to raise money in support of cancer research. To date, the bank has helped to raise more than $2.3 million in donations for Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C). Fifth Third Bank offers special credit and debit cards, which generate donations to SU2C for every qualifying purchase made using those cards. Through its “Pay to the Order of” campaign, the bank will give $150 to the customer and donate $150 to SU2C each time a new customer opens a checking account with direct deposit and makes three online bill payments. The campaign runs through October 17.

Stand-Up-to-Cancer“It is our hope that those touched by cancer will come out and be part of this special event with us,” said Bob LaClair, CEO & president, Fifth Third Bank (Northwestern Ohio). “Far too many have experienced the heartbreak of this devastating disease and we are honored to have the opportunity to work with Stand Up To Cancer to raise awareness and funds that will advance the scientific breakthroughs necessary to bring the possibility of a cure even closer.”

At each ballpark, guests will enjoy special promotions and giveaways, have the opportunity to donate to the cause and even memorialize their wishes for someone they know affected by cancer by adding their name to an SU2C signing wall. For every strikeout in the game, the bank will donate an additional $53 to SU2C. Special guests, including cancer survivors, will serve as game ambassadors, with one special guest throwing out the game’s first pitch.

SU2C, a program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is a groundbreaking initiative that raises funds to accelerate innovative cancer research, enabling scientific collaboration in order to quickly bring new therapies to patients. Fifth Third began working with SU2C in 2013 when the bank launched the Fifth Third SU2C credit and debit cards. Fifth Third Bank is the only card issuer to offer payment cards that directly benefit SU2C.

Fifth Third Bank To Give Fans Tickets In Support Of Healthy Living And Cancer Awareness

During Fort Wayne’s game on Wednesday, August 20, as well as during the day on Thursday, August 21, Parkview Field is set to host a free “Keeping Men Healthy” event. All men who receive a PSA Blood Screening will receive two free tickets to a future TinCaps game, compliments of Fifth Third Bank in support of healthy living and cancer awareness.

The event will be held in Parkview Field’s Lincoln Financial Event Center during Wednesday’s 7:05 p.m. game against the Great Lakes Loons (L.A. Dodgers affiliate).

For fans who can’t make Wednesday’s game, “Keeping Men Healthy” also will take place on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Services offered at the event by Parkview include:

  • Blood Pressure Reading
  • Glucose Check
  • Height, weight, and BMI
  • Skin Screenings

There will be other screenings and prevention information as well. Fans will also have the opportunity to meet physicians from Parkview Physicians Group – Urology and Parkview Physicians Group – Colon & Rectal Surgery.

Sand Gnats Team President to Get Prostate Exam While Singing ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’

Savannah-Sand-GnatsThe Savannah Sand Gnats will be raising awareness for cancer during their game on Saturday, August 16, at Historic Grayson Stadium as part of Prostate Cancer Awareness Night. Sand Gnats team president John Katz will receive a prostate exam while singing the seventh inning stretch classic, “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”

Ed Randalls BFTC logoKatz was nominated as the next participant among baseball executives to help raise awareness for cancer by “Playing it Forward.” Myrtle Beach Pelicans vice president and general manager Andy Milovich first received a prostate exam during a Pelicans game and then nominated Lake Elsinore Storm president Dave Oster to take the challenge. Oster complied, and challenged Charleston RiverDogs general manager Dave Echols to do the same. Echols used the “Two Knuckle Challenge” to gain Facebook “likes” for “Fierce Fallon,” a page dedicated to fundraising for nine-year-old cancer patient Fallon Emery of Carolina Forest, S.C.

“Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer among men after skin cancer,” said Katz. “Early detection and treatment leads to high survival and cure rates.”

Katz, 44, has never been known to back down from a challenge. He enlisted his physician, Dr. John Barrett, to lend a “helping hand” and administer the exam.

The Sand Gnats will continue that trend, asking to gain Facebook “likes” for “Fierce Fallon,” as well as “Team Alexa- Fight Back.” Alexa, a five-year-old brain tumor patient, formed a close connection with several Sand Gnats players during a recent hospital visit, and spent the day Tuesday playing with her new friends at the ballpark.

“I’m proud to have the opportunity to raise awareness for Fallon and Alexa,” Katz added. “Ed Randall’s Bat for the Cure has made amazing strides in educating men about prostate cancer, and I am honored to do my part and take one for the team.”

Ed Randall’s Bat for the Cure organization will also be on hand, distributing information on prostate cancer and the importance of screening for the dangerous disease. A Sand Gnats team autographed baseball bat will be raffled off by Ed Randall’s Bat for the Cure.

The Gnats will be taking on the Greenville Drive with a first pitch of 6:05 p.m. Gates to Historic Grayson Stadium will open at 5:00 p.m. Fans can stay after the game for a spectacular fireworks display brought to you by Pruitt Health.

Dragons to Host 2014 Anthem Health and Fitness Carnival

Dayton-DragonsOn Sunday, August 17, the plaza outside Fifth Third Field will host a multitude of fun, free activities as a part of the annual Anthem Health & Fitness Carnival. This annual event is a great opportunity for parents and their children to learn about healthy lifestyles, grab some cool giveaways and enjoy a day of family fun at Fifth Third Field.

The Dragons take on the Bowling Green Hot Rods at 2:00 p.m. that afternoon, but as early as 12:30 p.m., fans can come to the plaza to enjoy FREE health screenings, chair massages, airbrush tattoos, balloon animals, raffle prizes including a fitbit flex, free bike helmets for the first 100 kids (ages 5-12), inflatable games, and much more, courtesy of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Kettering Health Network. Dragons mascots Heater and Gem will be in attendance, as well. The carnival will run until 2:30 p.m.
