Colorado-Springs-Sky-Sox-2014For the second year in a row, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox have partnered with Care and Share Food Bank, Springs Rescue Mission and Catholic Charities of Central Colorado’s Marian House as part of their region-wide community turkey drive for the 2014 holiday season.

“The Sky Sox are proud to partner with this incredible group of Colorado Springs community partners in an effort to make a significant impact this holiday season,” said Sky Sox President and General Manager Tony Ensor. “We are truly thankful to be a part of this community and this effort to help those most in need. We hope that the citizens of Colorado Springs will come out in large numbers to support this worthy cause and drop off their contributions as Security Service Field.”

Care-and-Share-Food-BankThose interested in donating a frozen turkey can do so at Security Service Field on Friday, November 14 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The Sky Sox will also be providing one free ticket to Opening Night 2015 (Thursday, April 9) to anyone who donates a turkey at Security Service Field on November 14. Additional drop off locations include Springs Rescue Mission, Calvary Worship Center or Compassion International.

“It is only through collaborative community efforts can we accomplish a goal of feeding our neighbors in need,” said Lynne Telford, CEO Care and Share Food Bank. “By combining our efforts to meet the needs we hope to provide more turkeys, the Thanksgiving centerpiece, this holiday season.”

CT Tigers To Honor Veterans Day With A Special Offer

For the second straight year, any current or former military member who comes to the Dodd Stadium box office on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 between 9 am and 5 pm will receive two complimentary ticket vouchers redeemable for a premium box seat to any 2015 regular season Connecticut Tigers game. The offer is only valid in person at the Dodd Stadium box office and some form of military identification must be shown.

“We feel strongly as an organization that those that have served or are currently serving our country should be recognized and honored. That’s why we have a military discount on tickets for each and every one of our games and have a night dedicated to honoring these heroes each season,” said CT Tigers Vice President and General Manager Eric Knighton. “A pair of free tickets is just another small way that we can express our gratitude for all of the sacrifices they’ve made for us all.”

The Connecticut Tigers are the New York-Penn League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play a 76 game schedule that runs from mid June through early September. 2015 season tickets, and team merchandise are now on sale! Keys to Host Toys for Tots Drive

Frederick-KeysThe holiday season is right around the corner, and for the third consecutive season the Keys will be partnering with Toys for Tots. The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children.

Members of the Frederick community can drop off toys at Harry Grove Stadium starting on November 5, from 9-5 p.m, Monday to Friday. Anyone who donates a toy will receive two tickets to a 2015 Frederick Keys home game along with two Keys hats.

Toys-for-Tots-logo-2014bThe Toys for Tots Drive concludes on Saturday, December 13, when the Keys host their annual holiday event in the Mattress Warehouse Club.

“We received tremendous support from the community during our toy drive last year,” said Director of Marketing Bridget McCabe. “The Keys love bringing smiles to the faces of local kids during the holiday season, and our annual partnership with Toys for Tots allows us to do just that.”

The Keys Holiday Event on December 13 will run from 10am-1pm. More details will be available at a later date. Ticket plans for the 2015 season are now available, and can be purchased by calling an account manager at 301-815-9900. Every plan comes with the choice of a Zach Britton or Kevin Gausman bobblehead.

Fans have until October 31st to donate school supplies for Classroom Connections in exchange for a $19 Claw Club membership, half the normal price. Donations can be dropped off at the Crawdads front office at L.P. Frans Stadium, along with a completed Claw Club Form.

Legends invite schools to ‘Hit the Books’

Lexington-Legends-2013It’s time for elementary schools to “Hit the Books” with the Lexington Legends.

Teachers, librarians, media specialists and other educators are encouraged to register with the Legends to get their elementary schools involved in the Hit the Books reading program for the 2014-15 school year.

In Hit the Books, a baseball diamond is used to record credit for a student’s reading. For every book a student reads, a teacher places his or her initials on a base. Kindergarten students may participate by having their teachers read four books to them.

When the student has all three bases and home plate initialed by the teacher, the student may bring a Hit the Books bookmark to the Legends’ box office at Whitaker Bank Ballpark to exchange it for two tickets to a Legends home game designated for their school.

The school with the highest bookmark redemption (based on percentage of enrollment, minimum 50 students) will receive a school-wide reward from the “Hit the Books” sponsor.

To begin the process, educators must register with the Legends by November 14 to ensure their school’s participation. Registration information is available at www.lexingtonlegends.com.

“Hit the Books is one of the Legends’ favorite community programs,” said Sarah Bosso, the Legends’ director of community relations and special events. “Encouraging the students of central Kentucky to read and show off their artistic creativity through the bookmark design contest is very rewarding. Big L loves visiting all the participating schools, and we hope there will be more for this year’s program than ever before.”

In addition, the annual bookmark design contest is under way and will run through December 12. The winning student will have his or her artwork featured on the official 2015 Hit the Books bookmark and poster that are distributed to every student participating in the reading program, which runs through March 31, 2015. About 23,000 students participated during the 2013-14 school year.

Schedule a visit by Big L

The Lexington Legends and Big L would like to visit any participating school and serve as a guest reader for any class or scheduled Media Center time to encourage students to complete the Hit the Books program and redeem their bookmarks for Legends game tickets. The 2015 season will be the 15th for Legends baseball and also marks the 15th year that the Legends have been associated with Hit the Books. About 195,000 students have participated.

Blue Rocks honored with Minker Award

Community service award is named after Wilmington team’s founder

Wilmington-Blue-Rocks-2014The Wilmington Blue Rocks were honored by the Carolina League on Wednesday with the Matt Minker Community Service Award, which goes to the club that best demonstrates an outstanding, on-going commitment to charitable service, support, and leadership within its community. The award is named after the Blue Rocks’ founder, who owned the club until his death in 2007. Minker, whose construction company also built Frawley Stadium, is still the team’s honorary president. It is the first year the title has been awarded to an entire organization, after going to individual players since its inception in 2009.

“Matt Minker was instrumental in laying the foundation for the Blue Rocks and for the franchise’s success in the years to follow,” said Blue Rocks general manager Chris Kemple. “It is fitting and appropriate that this honor bears his name and we are absolutely privileged to be the first organizational recipient.”

The Blue Rocks won the award thanks in large part to their numerous school programs, charitable endeavors and hospital visits.

As an organization the Blue Rocks work with area schools to promote academic achievement (Rocky’s Reading Challenge), citizenship (Outstanding Student Program), and active lifestyles (Titus Sports Champions Physical Health Program). The team helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for good causes through partnerships with Habitat For Humanity, Boys & Girls Clubs of DE, Fight for the Gold, Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and many other charities in 2014. It also contributed school supplies to the Red Clay School Consolidated School District during the Remax Stuff the Bus Campaign and donated thousands of tickets to other worthy community programs. Several times each season the team also visited the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital For Children, brightening the spirits of that facility’s patients and their families.

“We could not accomplish much of what we do without the partnership and cooperation of our players and the Kansas City Royals organization,” said Blue Rocks director of community affairs Kevin P. Linton. “Their commitment to community fits perfectly with the vision that Matt Minker set forth for the Blue Rocks franchise and that we continue to follow to this day.”

Community service is so engrained within the organization that three of the five times the award was presented to individual players it went to Blue Rocks. Everett Teaford was the inaugural winner in 2009 and was followed by Tim Melville in 2011 and Whit Merrifield in 2012.

As the Carolina League’s recipient of the Matt Minker Award, the Blue Rocks received the eight-team league’s automatic nomination for the John Henry Moss Community Service Award, given out by Minor League Baseball at its annual national convention, to be held this December in San Diego.

Richmond-Flying-SquirrelsThe Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, are pleased to announce that the organization has been nominated by the Eastern League of Professional Baseball Clubs for the 2014 John Henry Moss Community Service Award. The league nominates just one team for the award, presented annually by Minor League Baseball.

The John Henry Moss Community Service Award is bestowed upon a club that demonstrates an outstanding, on-going commitment to charitable service, support and leadership within their local community and within the baseball industry.

Community impact has been a foundational focal point for the Squirrels since their inception in 2010. The Squirrels’ nomination comes following a season in which they continued to expand many of their community aims. That included the launch of the Squirrels’ new non-profit arm, Flying Squirrels Charities, created with the goal of growing opportunities for local children. The first major fundraising campaign for Flying Squirrels Charities was “Smooch-a-Pig,” which included the involvement of 10 local celebrities and benefitted “Operation Renovation.” The campaign, which endeavored to rebuild 12 little league fields for the Richmond City Department of Parks & Recreation, raised over $60,000.

“There are many awards that the Squirrels as an organization would be delighted to receive,” said Flying Squirrels’ Vice President & COO Todd “Parney” Parnell. “However, this nomination is of particular significance to us. Community service is the bedrock of the Squirrels’ organization, and it is gratifying that our sustained effort continues to have a profound impact.”

Keurig and Lake Monsters Brew Up Local Partnership To Bring 350 Kids To Games

Vermont-Lake-Monsters-2014Keurig Green Mountain, Inc. and the Vermont Lake Monsters raised over $1,700 this summer at historic Centennial Field to support the New York-Penn League team’s Share The Experience Program.

As part of the Lake Monsters’ nightly sports memorabilia auctions, Keurig Green Mountain, Inc. generously donated one Keurig brewing system for each night’s auction. All of the proceeds from the donation and auctioned brewing systems will go to benefit the Lake Monsters’ Share The Experience Program, which turns those funds into tickets for those in the community who cannot afford to come to a Lake Monsters game and enjoy the family fun environment.

“We’re so pleased that we can support the Lake Monster’s Share The Experience Program to provide local nonprofits and youth groups access to the ballgames,” Sandy Yusen, Keurig’s Director of Community Relations/Corporate Communications said.

The $1,700 that was raised this past summer will allow nearly 350 kids from youth groups and non-profits that lack the resources to attend a Lake Monsters game next season and share in the enjoyable experience at Centennial Field.

“We are extremely excited to have team up with Keurig Green Mountain on this venture,” said Nate Cloutier, General Manager of the Vermont Lake Monsters. “Their generous donations were not only a fun addition to the auction that the fans loved to bid on, but the proceeds will be instrumental in helping to share the family fun atmosphere with as many people in the community that we possibly can.”

Wisconsin-Timber-Rattlers-2014It is time for your school to help celebrate the 20th year of Fang’s Reading Club presented by Learning Rx during the 2014-2015 school year! The mascot of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers is ready to help kids from kindergarten through 5th grade get excited about reading!

Fang’s Reading club started in 1996 and grew to 178 schools and over 44,000 students last year. There is plenty of room for more for this school year.

Teachers and reading coordinators have until November 21 to get involved in this popular Timber Rattlers program.

Personnel at the participating schools have the flexibility to design the program to meet the needs of their students. The Timber Rattlers, Learning Rx, Badger Sports Park, and the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board will provide participating students with incentive prizes as they reach goals within the program. Students who meet all of their goals for the program are rewarded with a FREE ticket as part of their school’s Family Night at a Timber Rattlers game in 2015.

Mahoning-Valley-Scrappers-2014The Scrappers and Talmer Bank and Trust present the sixteenth annual “Trick or Treat” at Eastwood Field, with media partners 21 WFMJ, WBCB, and Hot 101. The event will take place Wednesday, October 22nd from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. “Trick or Treat” at Eastwood Field is a fun and safe way to celebrate Halloween for children age 12 and under. Ticket quantities are limited and are available on a first come first served basis. Children and adults will require a ticket. Tickets are just $1 each and are available starting Monday, September 29th at the Scrappers Team Office located at Eastwood Field. In addition, anyone that donates canned goods at the “Trick or Treat” event for Project Feed Our Valley will receive a free general admission Scrappers ticket valid during the 2015 season.

Kannapolis-IntimidatorsThe Kannapolis Intimidators have teamed up with Walmart to host Back to School Night on Friday, Aug. 29, featuring a school tools donation. Fans that donate three (3) school supplies at the Box Office will receive a free general admission ticket to that night’s game against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Gates open at 6 p.m. with first pitch at 7:05 p.m.

School supplies will be donated to Communities in Schools North Carolina. The Intimidators are proud to team up with Walmart for this promotion. Area Walmart stores are encouraging customers to “Build A Communities-In-School-NC-logoBackpack” for elementary, middle and high school students as the new school year gets underway. Items collected through this drive will then be distributed to public school students in need.

During Fort Wayne’s game on Wednesday, August 20, as well as during the day on Thursday, August 21, Parkview Field is set to host a free “Keeping Men Healthy” event. All men who receive a PSA Blood Screening will receive two free tickets to a future TinCaps game, compliments of Fifth Third Bank in support of healthy living and cancer awareness.

The event will be held in Parkview Field’s Lincoln Financial Event Center during Wednesday’s 7:05 p.m. game against the Great Lakes Loons (L.A. Dodgers affiliate).

For fans who can’t make Wednesday’s game, “Keeping Men Healthy” also will take place on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Services offered at the event by Parkview include:

Jackson-Generals-2014The Jackson Generals have teamed up with Ellie’s Hats and the Vs Cancer Foundation to take a swing against childhood cancer.

On August 22nd at 7:05, the Generals will be taking on the Chattanooga Lookouts in the hunt for a playoff spot. But, the battle on the field will be in support of those children who are entrenched in a battle of their own – one against cancer.

Ellie's-HatsThe Generals have spent months collecting hundreds hats from teams and individuals across the country. These hats will be donated on the field that night to the charity, “Ellie’s Hats,” who will give them to children receiving cancer treatments. These kids often lose hair from harsh treatments and the hats often become an extension of themselves, almost like a badge of courage.

But, the donation isn’t all that’s going on. Some of the Generals players have volunteered to have their heads shaved that night to help raise money with the Vs. Cancer Foundation. Any individual attending the game will also have the opportunity to shave their heads in support.

Vs-Cancer-logoThe Vs. Cancer Foundation has set up a website here to help the Generals raise even more for the cause. These donations will be split between Ellie’s Hats and a local Jackson cancer treatment center, meaning every penny is used to fight childhood cancer.

Fans are encouraged to bring a new hat to the game to donate to the cause, and if they do they’ll receive free admission.

The Generals have been recognized for their efforts by Minor League Baseball. They have been named one of five finalists for the top charity event/program in all of Minor League Baseball. MiLB gives a number of “Golden Bobblehead Awards” out every season to recognize the best of the best from around the country. This is the first time the Generals have been a finalist in any category.

Jackson Generals GM, Jason Compton said the support for night has been overwhelming. “We’ve had teams from all over the country send in hats. We’ve had individuals sending along hats or making a donation to the Vs. Cancer web page,” Compton said. “It just goes to show how when it comes to a cause like this, we’re all on the same team. The response for this has been nothing short of inspiring. The recognition from MiLB is just icing on the cake. Any added exposure and awareness that comes from our efforts will just get everyone behind these children who are fighting for their lives.”

Silver Hawks to Collect 3,000 lbs. of Food for St. Vincent de Paul

South-Bend-Silver-Hawks-2014August 15th the annual Faith and Family Night returns to Four Winds Field. St. Vincent de Paul has partnered with your South Bend Silver Hawks to host the annual event. Through this partnership, your Silver Hawks and St. Vincent de Paul hope to bring the community together for a night of faith and fellowship.

St-Vincent-de-PaulArrive early for a pregame concert featuring Cody Collier. The performance will begin at 6:30 p.m. Also taking place is a canned food drive to help stock the pantries of St. Vincent de Paul. Bring non-perishable food items, or a $5 donation, to the game that evening and receive two (2) complimentary tickets for August 18th, 19th or 20th. Guests who bring the most donations in weight will have a chance to win an outdoor suite to use during a game in the 2015 Silver Hawks season.   The goal is to collect 3,000 lbs. of food during the food drive.

“The Silver Hawks are once again excited to be partnering with St. Vincent de Paul this year on our Faith and Family Night.   We have built a great partnership over the last couple of seasons but what excites me the most is the canned food drive and the opportunity we have to help those around Michiana that are in need.   We have set a goal to collect at least 3,000 lbs. of food on Friday night and it is my hope that we shatter that mark.   We live in one of the greatest communities with some of the most generous baseball fans that I have ever met.   So I am asking everyone to please bring at least one item on Friday night to donate and let’s help fill St. Vincent de Paul’s food pantry.”   states Joe Hart, Silver Hawks’ Team President.

Presenting Donors Receive Four Tickets to a Fightins Game

Reading-Fightin-Phils-2014The Reading Fightin Phils and the American Red Cross invite you to donate blood In Memory of Frank Mascaro on Monday, August 11th, from 10:00am to 3:00pm.

You can help J.P. Mascaro & Sons reach their goal of 1,000 pints of blood for the Red Cross by August 2014.

All presenting donors receive four tickets to Reading Fightin’ Phils game on August 16th.

American-Red-CrossThe American Red Cross is facing a looming blood shortage leading to an urgent need for donors of all blood types to roll up a sleeve and give. Since May, donations through the Red Cross are down approximately 8 percent, resulting in about 80,000 fewer donations than expected. The number of donors continues to decline and the shortfall is significant enough that the Red Cross could experience an emergency situation in the coming weeks.

“Many people say they never fully understood the importance of donating blood until they or someone they love needed it,” said Colin Riccobon, External Communications Manager of the Red Cross Northeastern Pennsylvania Blood Services Region. “Summer months are always a challenging time for blood collections, and there are patients depending on donors every day to give them hope.”

How to donate blood
Simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
