Donate to the Fifth Third Bank Food Drive!

Make plans to bring cans of food and other non-perishables during the Fifth Third Bank Food Drive, taking place Thursday, May 2 through Sunday, May 5. Collection boxes will be readily available at all ballpark entrances. The donated food will be distributed locally to the Cherry Street Mission.

Fifth Third chose the food drive as this year’s national service project in honor of Fifth Third Day which occurs annually on May 3. For the second year in a row, Fifth Third Day celebrations will be dedicated to fighting hunger across the Fifth Third Bank footprint. Each of the 48 Fifth Third Bank locations in the Toledo Region will also be focused on “Feeding Our Communities,” by collecting non-perishable food items in the banking centers. The goal of Fifth Third is to provide at least 155,000 meals throughout all the regions served in honor of Fifth Third’s 155th anniversary.

Fans attending the Mud Hens home games on Thursday through Sunday of this week (May 2 – 5, 2013) are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the ballpark. Boxes will be readily available at all entrances and donations will remain in the local community.

Suggested non-perishable food donations include: Peanut butter, pancake mixes and syrup, canned fruits, pastas, canned vegetables, powdered milk, cereals, spaghetti sauce, instant potatoes, soups, Jell-O and pudding.

For 65 years, Cherry Street Mission Ministries has served the homeless and poor. Today, in addition to meeting people’s critical basic needs, Cherry Street empowers them to break the bonds of homelessness and poverty and build new lives for themselves.

Express Announces Relief Initiatives to Assist Victims of West, Texas Fertilizer Plant Explosion

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express announced Friday their plans to aid in relief the victims of the devastating fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas on Wednesday.

During the entire four-game series against the New Orleans Zephyrs starting on Saturday, fans can donate items for the victims and residents of West. Items will be collected outside of Dell Diamond near the home plate entrance starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Monday and Tuesday and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Donations will be accepted up until 30 minutes after the scheduled first pitch.

The following items are currently needed the most: personal hygiene items and toiletries, phone chargers, pillows, baby care items (diapers, wipes, baby food, etc.), non-perishable food items, new socks and underwear, bottled water, bedding, and pet food and supplies.

To thank fans for their donations, the Express will provide them with a pair of general admission tickets to that night’s game. If tickets have already been purchased for that game, they will receive a Be Our Guest pass, good for two reserved seats to a future game, Sunday – Thursday.

The Express will deliver all donations to West, Texas following the homestand.

A moment of silence will be observed for the victims of the tragic explosion before the start of the game on Saturday.

Food Bank to benefit from Chiefs’ partnership with Dunkin’ Donuts

SYRACUSE, New York – Dunkin’ Donuts announced today it will donate one pound of coffee to Food Bank of Central New York for every run scored by the Syracuse Chiefs during the team’s 72 home games at NBT Bank Stadium this season. The community relations initiative is one element of a season-long partnership with the Chiefs that will also feature group outings, sponsored by Dunkin’Donuts, for Central New York charitable organizations in 2013.

In addition to announcing the partnership, Dunkin’ Donuts also donated a total of 300 pounds of coffee to Food Bank of Central New York as a result of separate “Goals for Coffee” initiatives between Dunkin’ Donuts and the Syracuse Crunch and Syracuse Silver Knights during the 2012-13 seasons.

Food Bank of Central New York is a nonprofit organization working to eliminate hunger through nutritious food distribution, education and advocacy in cooperation with the community. The food bank provides more than 23,000 meals per day through 476 member programs in 11 counties in Central and Northern New York.

Another highlight of the partnership is the return of the Dunkin’ Donuts Community Dugout, which provides 1,800 tickets to groups and non-profit agencies throughout Central New York during the 2013 season. At each regular season home game, the Dunkin’ Donuts Community Dugout hosts a community organization from Central New York in a special section of NBT Bank Stadium.

Organizations interested in taking part in the Dunkin’ Donuts Community Dugout program can request tickets by contacting the Syracuse Chiefs ticket office at (315) 474-7833. RiverDogs Introduce “Healthy Challenge Tuesdays”

Charleston-RiverDogsThis season, the RiverDogs, the Class A affiliate of the 27-time World Champion Yankees, introduce the “Healthy Challenge Tuesday” as the club partners with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) to make every Tuesday’s game at The Joe a night that is themed around living a healthier lifestyle.

“Tuesday night games will now be geared toward living and promoting a healthy lifestyle, both physically and mentally,” said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols. “We all can do a better job of taking care of ourselves, and why not start doing it at a baseball game?”

MUSC-logoThe RiverDogs have teamed up with the MUSC Wellness Center to create an entire new line of healthy concessions options available throughout the season, many made from crops grown on the MUSC Urban Farm located in downtown Charleston. Each Tuesday game will feature a different item from these new healthy selections and be offered to fans at a discounted rate.

Additionally, the club’s renowned between-innings promotions will also be health and fitness oriented for Tuesday home games this year. Cutters announce new Charitable Tuesdays program

The Williamsport Crosscutters are proud to announce Charitable Tuesdays as a brand new community effort for the 2013 season.

The Crosscutters will be recognizing local charities and non-profit organizations at every Tuesday home game this season.  The program will give one organization per Tuesday game the opportunity to have a presence at Historic Bowman Field for the purpose of educating Cutters’ fans about their organization.

The organization of the game will have space in the concourse of Historic Bowman Field to display and distribute promotional literature and materials.  Selling or collecting monetary donations of any kind is not permitted.

In addition, each organization will receive the following to promote themselves during the game:

  • On-field, pre-game interview to talk about the organization
  • Ceremonial 1st Pitch by a representative of the organization
  • In-game interview live on the Cutters’ radio broadcast
  • (4) reserved box seat tickets to the game

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Fort Wayne TinCaps and Fort4Fitness are pledging their support to the victims of the tragic events that took place at the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 15. During Fort Wayne’s upcoming three-game series at Parkview Field from Friday, April 19 through Sunday, April 21, the TinCaps organization will make a donation to the American Red Cross for each fan who comes to the ballpark sporting attire — shirt, sweatshirt, hat, bib, etc. — from a charitable or competitive running race.

“Although we in Fort Wayne are hundreds of miles from Boston, we feel compelled to do whatever we can to help those who are in need,” TinCaps President Mike Nutter said. “And as hosts of the annual Fort4Fitness races, we feel especially tied to the running community. While the dollars that will be raised over the weekend are important, perhaps just as helpful is to give folks in the Fort Wayne area a chance to show their solidarity with those suffering in Boston.”

Fans who visit the Fort4Fitness booth behind home plate at Parkview Field this weekend will have the opportunity to sign a banner of support that will then be sent to Boston and given to those affected by Monday’s events. In addition, fans will be able to make individual donations to the American Red Cross.

“It’s important that we take the time to remember and honor the victims of this tragic event,” Fort4Fitness Executive Director Brad Kimmel said. “We may run our races in a different city and state, but we’re all in this together, and this is just one small way we can show our support for everyone who has been impacted by this. We encourage all past participants and their friends and family to wear their Fort4Fitness or other race gear as a sign of support.”

Spikes announce 2013 school programs

The State College Spikes have announced the team’s roster of 2013 school programs. Each program has a unique theme and focus, but the common goal is to use the fun Spikes brand to supplement classroom curriculum in the areas of reading, writing, exercising, eating healthy and living an eco-friendly lifestyle.

Most programs are supplemented by school assemblies involving mascots, players and front office staff, and all programs offer K-8 students the opportunity to earn free tickets and experiences at Spikes home games upon completion of fun program tasks. Last year, the Spikes reached over 15,000 Central PA school children in Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Huntingdon, Mifflin and Juniata Counties.

Below are capsules of the Spikes 2013 school programs:

Healthy Home Runs presented by Mount Nittany Health
The Spikes and Mount Nittany Health are offering this school program, which is designed to promote a healthy lifestyle through nutrition and physical activity. Ike the Spike and representatives from Mount Nittany Health will visit schools to hold a kick-off assembly (which can be held outside or inside). During the assembly, K-6 students will be educated on the importance exercise and nutrition before having the opportunity to take “Ike’s Fun Fit Challenge.” Students who complete the simple and fun physical fitness challenge will be rewarded with one complimentary Bullpen Box ticket and an on-field recognition ceremony during the Spikes’ Healthy Home Runs Day at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Saturday, August 3, 2013.

Project I.K.E presented by Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority
Project I.K.E. is a collaboration between the Spikes and Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority teaching children about the importance of “going green” and incorporating eco-friendly practices in their daily lives. The acronym in the program title stands for “Inspiring Kids to be Eco-Friendly” and targets children in grades K-8. The Spikes, Ike the Spike and a representative from the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority will host educational school assembly visits for each participating school. Project I.K.E. also offers complimentary tours of Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, which demonstrates how the Spikes recycle and go green in the world’s first LEED Certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) ballpark. As part of the program, students will be given an educational packet to complete, which can be redeemed for one complimentary Bullpen Box Ticket to a 2013 Spikes home game.

Spikes Student All-Star Program presented by Chick-fil-A and PSEA
In partnership with Chick-fil-A and the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA), the Spikes Student All-Stars program provides K-8 teachers around the region with a tool to reward students with free tickets to a Spikes game based on whatever criteria the teacher would like to establish in his/her own classroom. Each teacher within the Spikes geographic region receives six (6) forms to distribute to students. The program encourages teachers to incentivize students based on excellence in a subject, dramatic improvement in a subject, or by showing classroom leadership. Any student chosen will be provided with a free ticket to one of three pre-determined 2013 Spikes home games (July 7, August 4 and August 25), and will be honored as part of a special pre-game, on-field recognition ceremony.

Books and Baseball Program presented by National Penn Bank
The Spikes and National Penn Bank have partnered for the Books and Baseball reading program for the 2013 season. This program encourages students to complete a reading program by rewarding them with free Spikes tickets upon completion. Participating students will receive a special bookmark to keep track of the books they read. Any participating student that reads four books under the supervision of their teacher or parent will earn one free ticket for a designated Books and Baseball game during the 2013 season (July 6, July 27 and August 24). At those games, participants will be honored from the field for their participation and completion of the programs. The program includes a free assembly and reading presentation with the National Penn Bank Nook Monster at any of the participating schools. Books and Baseball is designed for students in grades K-8.

Spikes Essay Contest
The Spikes Essay Contest is for K-8 students to creatively share their experiences and thoughts about the State College Spikes through pictures or essays. The contest is divided into three different grade levels: K-1, 2-4 and 5-8. Students in kindergarten through first grade are encouraged to include drawings along with one sentence for the theme “If I were Ike the Spike.” The second to fourth grade group will be asked to write a short essay entitled “If I coached the Spikes.” Fifth to eighth graders will be encouraged to write a 300 or less word essay entitled “If I could create a new food item for the Spikes, it would be (blank).” A winning essay will be chosen in each of the three age groups and those winners will earn tickets to a 2013 Spikes home game for their entire grade. The submission deadline for the Spikes Essay Contest is June 1.

There is no cost for school to participate in any 2013 Spikes school program. The Spikes, the Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, will open the club’s eighth season on Monday, June 17 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park against the rival Williamsport Crosscutters (Philadelphia Phillies). The Spikes will be home for 38 regular season home dates between June 17 and August 30. Single-game tickets for the upcoming 2013 season will go on sale to the public starting Friday, April 26 at 4 p.m. Season Tickets, Value Plans, McDonald’s Flex Books and an array of group and corporate hospitality options are currently available and can be reserved by calling (814) 272-1711. Reading All-Stars Celebrated Monday Night

Michelin, Drive set to recognize students from Greenville County elementary schools & Pickens County schools

The Greenville Drive announced the successful completion of its 2013 Reading All-Stars program with plans to recognize students who accomplished the program’s reading goals during special celebration games at Fluor Field. Qualifying students from Greenville County elementary schools and Pickens County elementary and middle schools qualifiers will be recognized on Monday, April 15th, with Greenville County middle and Spartanburg Districts 2, 5, 6 and 7 elementary and middle schools qualifiers to be recognized on Sunday, May 19th.

Over 39,000 students from 103 elementary and middle schools across Pickens, Greenville and Spartanburg counties voluntarily took part in the Drive’s 6th annual reading incentive program which is designed to encourage leaning and education success through reading. Students were challenged to read a set number of extra-curricular books during February and March in order to receive free admission and special recognition at Drive games with other Reading All-Stars.

At the upcoming recognition games, more than 8,000 qualifying students will have the opportunity to parade on the field before the game and to participate in between innings entertainment events. In addition, students who take part in the pre-game ceremony will be recognized with a Drive – Michelin Reading All Star commemorative t-shirt.

Michelin North America has been the title sponsor of the Drive Reading All Stars Program since its inception in 2008. Herb Johnson, director of community relations for Michelin North America, noted, “This program provides a great way to help the young people of our community connect something as important as reading and education with an experience that is as cool as baseball and professional sports.” Johnson added, “Having the Drive players involved provides an added dimension of encouragement, motivation and fun to this reading challenge.”

Bobbie Bentley, Spartanburg District 5 Public Relations Director, added, “The program has been extremely well planned and executed each year, and our school district has been very pleased with the enthusiasm we’ve seen from our teachers in terms of their participation. Our students have clearly risen to the challenge and it is exciting to have this unique incentive to work with in our ongoing efforts to make reading a rewarding experience for them.”

Drive president and co-owner, Craig Brown commented on this year’s program’s results noting, “The participation and success we have seen with young readers across the Upstate has continued to increase each year and we are delighted with the positive impact the program is having.” Brown remarked on the significance of the Reading All-Stars Program, saying, “We know that reading skills are absolutely critical to a student’s ability to succeed and stay in school, and moving the needle here has a positive impact on both the quality of life and the economic prosperity the Upstate Community is so committed to sustaining.”

3 R’s Program With Charleston County Schools Returns

Charleston-RiverDogsThe Charleston RiverDogs and the Charleston County School District began their “Reading and Running With the RiverDogs” program in select Charleston County Schools in 2009 to emphasize the fun and benefits in daily reading and exercise activities.

This year, third graders from Pinehurst, Blaney, Lambs, Burns and North Charleston elementary schools will be involved. Twice a month, a RiverDog staff member will come to the assigned school for a “read aloud” in each third grade class. The staff member will spend 15-20 minutes with each third grade class and then rotate between classes for about an hour. There will be approximately eight visits per school from February to May.

Charleston-SC-3RshirtdesignStudents may earn points by reading and exercising beyond the school day. Students earn a point for every 20 minutes they read and/or exercise. If students conduct “works of kindness” (such as reading to a youngster, helping mom with housework, carrying groceries for an elderly person or helping in the yard) while exercising or reading, they may earn two points for each 20 minutes. Students will record the minutes they read and exercise on a log and their parents/guardians will verify activities by initialing the log. The logs are reviewed by the teacher on a weekly basis, and point totals are tallied monthly. Students are awarded monthly the following:

• 101+ points: Free meal ticket at the game-hotdog, chips, drink;
• 100 points: RiverDogs t-shirt and two tickets to the Charleston RiverDogs game on May 10 (additional tickets for family members may be secured at a reduced rate);
• 75 points: Book donated to school library in the student’s name;
• 50 points: RiverDogs souvenir drink cup;
• 25 points: “Top Dog” ribbon

Additionally, there will be competition among the schools as they will also compete against each other for the highest monthly total points and the top school will receive a trophy that will rotate among the participating schools.

“Our ongoing partnership with the RiverDogs supports our continued efforts with literacy and helps to sustain our district Vision 2016 for academic achievement of all students”, said Mary Ann Dieter, Curriculum Specialist for the CCSD Literacy Based Learning Division.

“This program is a win-win opportunity for all involved,” said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols. “We remain pleased to have this direct association with the Charleston County School District and it is our goal to make an impact with child development.”

RiverDogs Salute to Military Personnel All Season at The Joe

Charleston-RiverDogsThe Charleston RiverDogs will be offering military personnel $5 tickets all season at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park thanks to General Dynamics Land Systems–Force Protection. Plus, the club has planned several Military Appreciation Nights and military-themed promotions throughout the season.

Fridays will feature a sea of red at Riley Park as the popular family-friendly General Dynamics Land Systems-Force Protection Red Shirt Friday returns. All fans who wear red shirts to the game on Friday will save $1 off the purchase of their ticket at the box office, plus RiverDogs players and coaches will be wearing special red digi-camo jerseys. The dollar saved by fans off of their ticket can be donated to benefit the charity Carolina Canines, a local charity which works with military prisoners at the Naval Consolidated Brig in Charleston and teaches them how to train rescue dogs as service animals for wounded and injured veterans. Additionally, information on the Medal of Honor Museum at nearby Patriots Point will be on hand throughout the season at the Guest Relations booth.

Each Military Night allows active and retired military members FREE entry for themselves and their family members by showing a Military ID at the box office.

In addition, the RiverDogs will be hosting Coast Guard Night on Thursday, May 23. This is a night to salute Coast Guard Sector Charleston. Game time is set for 7:05 pm as the RiverDogs host the rival Greenville Drive.

Shorebirds Unveil “Hardwire Everyday Heroes”

Salisbury, Md. – The Delmarva Shorebirds, the class “A” affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, are excited to announce a brand new program entitled “Hardwire Everyday Heroes” in partnership with Hardwire, a local Pocomoke, Maryland company.   Hardwire specializes in armor systems for the Department of Defense and has recently applied their armor solutions to school safety applications.  During the 2013 season, the Shorebirds and Hardwire will honor teachers throughout the Delmarva Peninsula that are true “everyday heroes.”

The Shorebirds are asking community members and fans to nominate teachers that deserve recognition for excellence in the classroom and helping to enrich the lives of local students.  The person nominating the teacher must submit a short write up that explains why the teacher should be considered for the “Hardwire Everyday Hero” award.

The Shorebirds will honor one teacher at each homestand during the 2013 season.  The winning teacher will receive the following for being recognized as the “Hardwire Everyday Hero”:  four reserved box tickets to a Shorebirds game, four meal vouchers for a hot dog, chips and Pepsi, a team autographed ball, pre-game on-field ceremony recognizing the teacher for his/her accomplishments, the chance to throw out a ceremonial first pitch, an article in the Shorebirds gameday program, an article on the Shorebirds website, and a complimentary bulletproof whiteboard from Hardwire.  The Hardwire Bulletproof Whiteboard is a hand-held whiteboard teaching tool; however, it also provides dual use as a last line of defense in the event of a school intruder.

“The Shorebirds are honored to team up with Hardwire to recognize great teachers and promote their new bulletproof whiteboards,” said Shorebirds General Manager Chris Bitters.  “We look forward to recognizing the great teachers on the Delmarva Peninsula and creating awareness for the great work that Hardwire is doing.”

George Tunis, Hardwire CEO, says “This program is a great way to recognize the hard work and dedication of the teachers in our community and to say ‘thanks’ for all they do for our children.”

To nominate a favorite teacher, send an email to hero@theshorebirds.com detailing why the teacher is an “everyday hero.”  In addition to your nomination, the email should include your name, the teacher’s name and school, and your best contact information.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Indians are proud to announce the 2013 schedule of the annual Boy and Girl Scout events at Victory Field. This year’s slate will include three overnight campouts, as well as the Tribe’s first ever Circuit of Fun Scout Night on Saturday, May 11, which will include pre-game festivities and a post-game bases run.

Scout groups participating in the first annual Circuit of Fun Scout Night will be treated to free games in the PNC Plaza located in center field, and have the option of purchasing a discounted food and drink package during the pre-game party, scheduled from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Tribe’s award-winning mascot Rowdie will also be on hand to sign autographs and entertain patrons, as well as several players from the 2013 Indianapolis Indians squad. Tickets to the Circuit of Fun Scout Night include admission to the regularly scheduled Indians game, a special patch to commemorate the event and the opportunity to stick around after the evening’s contest to run the bases.

Victory Field will turn into an overnight camp ground for troops, dens and packs during the Tribe’s Boy and Girl Scouts Campout events. The fun-filled evening will begin with the regularly scheduled Indians game, followed by a fantastic fireworks show. Campout participants can remain in the ballpark after the game and are treated to popcorn and a movie on the videoboard. Scout groups will also have the opportunity to take to the Tribe’s outfield to set up their tents for the evening, with the grand event being capped off by breakfast on Saturday morning.

Overnight Boy Scout Campouts are set for Friday, June 7 when the Indians take on the Durham Bulls at 7:15 p.m., and Friday, June 28, as the Tribe battles the Rochester Red Wings at 7:15 p.m. The Girl Scout Campout is scheduled Friday, June 21 immediately following the 7:15 p.m. contest between the Tribe and the Charlotte Knights.

LAKEWOOD, NJ – Youth baseball players can learn the game from BlueClaws players right on the field at FirstEnergy Park at one of the team’s three Youth Baseball Camp sessions in 2013.

UPDATED – All sessions are SOLD OUT.

The camps are open to players ages 7-12 and will cover all aspects of the game, including pitching, hitting, base-running, fielding, and throwing.

Each session runs from 9 am – 12 pm over four days and includes lunch each day and an autograph session with BlueClaws players on the final day of camp.

Session 1 – July 9, 11, 12, 13 [SOLD OUT]
Session 2 – July 25, 26, 29, 30 [SOLD OUT]
Session 3 – August 20, 21, 22, 23 [SOLD OUT]

The objective of the BlueClaws Youth Baseball Camp is to instill the fundamentals of baseball, promote good sportsmanship and create an enjoyable learning atmosphere for all.

These camps sell out each year and parents interested in signing up their kids are encouraged to do so early.

LAS VEGAS: The Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, will host “Donate Life Nevada” Night on Saturday, April 13 against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, at 7:05 p.m. at Cashman Field, to help promote awareness of the need for organ donors.  The first 2,500 fans through the gates will also receive a 51s Fleece Blanket Night, sponsored by Nevada Donor Network.

Donate Life Nevada is proud to team up with the 51s to bring awareness to the critical shortage of lifesaving organs, celebrate the lives of those saved by transplant and honor the heroic donors who have given a second chance to so many people. Donate Life Nevada will have a table in the concourse to help fans learn how the decision to be an organ, tissue and eye donor could save or change lives of more than 60 people.

“We are excited to partner with Donate Life Nevada and to help educate the baseball fans on the importance of donating lifesaving organs,” 51s General Manager Chuck Johnson said. “We welcome all of the organ recipients that will participate with the “on field” festivities prior to the game.”

Donate Life Champion Award:

Don Logan, 51s Executive Vice President, will present fellow Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame Inductee Simon Keith with the Donate Life Champion award. Simon was a star on the soccer field for many years, including at UNLV, now he’s a supporter of organ eye and tissue donation.  Keith was the recipient of a heart transplant in 1986 (27 years ago).

“Simon has the true heart and soul of a champion, said Joe Ferreira, Nevada Donor Network CEO. “He never misses an opportunity to teach and learn from others to make the world a better place in honor of his heroic donor. He does this with his relentless care and compassion for those around him, no matter what their needs or struggles. The donation and transplant community is fortunate to have such a remarkable person as an advocate and a champion.”

Donate Life America (DLA) will work with state affiliates to present more than 50 Donate Life Champion awards to well-known athletes, teams and other role models within the sports community who have demonstrated remarkable support for donation.

More than 117,000 Americans are currently waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.

51s Catcher Landon Powell:

Catcher Landon Powell, a member of the 2013 Las Vegas 51s, will also address the crowd regarding his experiences and why he became an advocate/fundraiser for Donate Life and organ donation.

Powell suffers from autoimmune hepatitis (had the disease since birth), a genetic disorder that caused his immune system to attack the liver cells and may be a candidate for a liver transplant later on in his life. His daughter, Izzy, passed away on January 25, 2013 from a rare disease and he and his wife, Ally, donated his daughter’s tissue.

“The Donate Life charity is near and dear to my family’s heart for personal reasons,” Landon Powell said. “The organization does great work nationwide and 1 organ donor can save up to eight lives. What better way to leave this world than to be a hero by being an organ donor.”

He is in his first season in the Mets organization and played in parts of three Major League seasons with Oakland (2009-11) and caught the 19th perfect game in Major League history and was behind the plate for Dallas Braden’s Mother’s Day gem on May 9, 2010 vs. Tampa Bay.

$15,000 Raised In “Restore The Shore” Jersey Auction

BlueClaws thank fans for their support; proceeds to benefit BlueClaws Charities relief efforts

Lakewood-BlueClaws-LogoThe BlueClaws are proud to announce that the team raised $15,000 through their Restore The Shore jersey auction that ran at the team’s April 4-7 games at FirstEnergy Park. All proceeds from the auction will go directly to BlueClaws Charities Restore The Shore initiative.

At the first four BlueClaws games of the year, the team had 50 Restore The Shore jerseys, each of which included the name of one town in Monmouth or Ocean Counties that was impacted by Sandy. These jerseys were worn by BlueClaws players, coaches, and staff members throughout the weekend.Bidding, in the form of a silent auction, took place at all four games, concluding on April 7th.

BlueClaws-Charities-logo“We’re very grateful for the support of our fans in this auction,” said BlueClaws General Manager Brandon Marano. “We raised a great sum of money, all of which will be given back to those among our community in need.”

The BlueClaws have five additional Restore The Shore jerseys, each of which says “Jersey Shore” on the back. These jerseys will be auctioned off online in the coming weeks. Fans that were unable to bid this weekend still have a chance to own one of these unique collector’s items. Details about these auctions will be released on BlueClaws.com, on the team’s Facebook and Twitter pages, and in Clawd’s Corner, the official BlueClaws e-newsletter.

Sandy-impacted families, groups, and organizations that are interested in applying for a grant can do so by visiting BlueClaws.com/Restore and returning a downloadable application by May 15th.

The exact number of grants that will be handed out depend on the amount of money raised.The BlueClaws are still raising money through Restore The Shore t-shirt sales. The shirts can be ordered in the Claws Cove or on the phone by calling 732-901-7000 ext. 192.
