The first 300 kids at the Main St. gate will be fitted for bike helmets

The Drive will host Safe Kids Upstate Day at Fluor Field on Sunday, April 12^th vs. the Augusta GreenJackets. Sunday’s game begins at 4:05 PM, and gates will open at 3:00 PM.

The first 300 kids through the Main Street gate on Sunday will be fitted for bicycle helmets from Safe Kids Upstate. A pregame parade for Upstate safety patrols will begin at 3:30 PM, and during the game, Drive players/coaches will be wearing special Safe Kids jerseys that will be available for fans in a silent auction.

Sea Dogs to Host Autism Awareness Day on April 11

The Portland Sea Dogs in partnership with Embracing the World of Autism will host Autism Awareness Day at Hadlock Field on Saturday, April 11th when the Sea Dogs take on the Reading Fightin Phils at 1:00 PM.

The event will be held with the support of University of New England Occupational Therapy graduate students. The UNE students will create and facilitate activities for children and families in a special “Sensory Room” that will allow children with autism to self-regulate using movement, calming sensory input and fidget items. This allows children to fully participate in the Sea Dogs game.

In addition to the “Sensory Room,” the students will also make sensory kits that include tactile items, chewy food, and fidget items to help people with autism self-modulate their nervous system during the game.

Donald Frost, 13, a child with Asperger’s syndrome, will be singing the National Anthem prior to the start of the game. Representatives will also throw out the ceremonial first-pitch and serve as a junior public address announcer.

The goal of the event is to raise autism awareness and to help people with autism perform the occupations of everyday life.

Miracle League Game Set for Prior to 4/25 Game

Gates Open Early at 5:30 p.m.

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs will play host to a Miracle League exhibition game and also wear commemorative Miracle League inspired jerseys provided by Majestic Athletic during their game against the Buffalo Bisons on Saturday, April 25 at Coca-Cola Park. The game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off with all proceeds benefiting the Miracle League of the Lehigh Valley and the Miracle League of Northampton County.

The Miracle League exhibition game between the Lehigh Valley team and the Northampton squad will take place from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. In order to allow fans to watch the one-inning contest, all Coca-Cola Park gates will also open promptly at 5 p.m. Dozens of children will take part in the 8^th annual Miracle League game at Coca-Cola Park. During the game, each child will have the opportunity to bat and play in the field and the IronPigs players will serve as “angels” and assist the players in all areas of the game.

The Miracle League is dedicated to providing children with special needs and other development disabilities an opportunity to play baseball. Presently there are 250 Miracle League organizations worldwide that provide opportunities to over 200,000 children and young adults with disabilities. IronPigs fans can bid on their favorite player’s jerseys from anywhere with the easy-to-use Qtego service that allows fans to place bids, receive notifications when outbid and check the status of their item via text messages on their mobile phones. Kids Set to Find 50,000 Easter Eggs in BG’s Largest Easter Celebration

The Bowling Green Hot Rods and Crossland Community Church are proud to partner up and bring EasterFest to Bowling Green Ballpark on Saturday, April 4. The completely free event will run from Noon CT until 3 p.m., and it will feature the largest Easter egg hunt in the South-Central Kentucky region. Over 50,000 Easter eggs will grace the field with four different age groups set to take the field and find their Easter treasure.

“We love what Crossland Community Church does for the community, and their outreach fits right into what we’re trying to do with the ball club,” said Hot Rods Assistant General Manager Eric C. Leach. “We’re proud to once again partner with hem for this event, and we can’t wait to provide families a superb venue for what will surely be the biggest Easter celebration in the area.”

Over 50,000 Easter eggs will blanket the field at Bowling Green Ballpark, and four different age groups will get the chance to showcase their Easter-egg hunting prowess. The age groups go all the way up to fifth graders, and smaller children will get to explore separately. Entry to the event is completely free, and 16 bicycles will be given away to those in attendance. Free popcorn and Pepsi products will be served in the concession stands, and the Easter bunny will make a grand entrance to help celebrate the event.

“We consider EasterFest a great opportunity to express our love and gratitude to our community. We are blessed to live in South-Central Kentucky and feel a very strong responsibility to help, encourage and bless the people of this community and not just the members of our church,” said Gregg Farrell of Crossland Community Church. “Jesus gave up His life for us and we feel a strong calling and responsibility to give of ourselves to this community.”

The newly-minted Axle’s Adventureland presented by VanMeter Insurance will be open and ready for play, and just like Easterfest itself, entry to the play area is completely free. Popular inflatables like the bounce house and speed pitch will also be ready for big outdoor party. All of the fun begins right at Noon, and the gates will remain open until 3 p.m. CT.

EasterFest will be the first event held in the ballpark in April, but it will the lid-lifter of a very busy month. That following Tuesday, on April 7, the Hot Rods will take the field as a team for the first time this season and host Western Kentucky University in a historic exhibition contest. Promotes and celebrates kids living an active lifestyle

Athletes of the Miracle League of El Paso were treated to a surprise last night as Chico, the Chihuahuas mascot, and Andy Imfeld, the Chihuahuas on-field emcee, launched the Gatorade GO PLAY Community Program. Along with a visit from Chico the athletes received Gatorade donated by Pepsi.

“The surprise visit was a huge hit and our athletes had a blast,” said Sandie Olivar, founder and executive director of the Miracle League of El Paso. “The disabled community normally lives a very sedentary lifestyle that does not get the opportunity to get outside and play. The Miracle League gives them the outlet to be active and play baseball while having some fun too.”

Gatorade GO PLAY’s mission is to celebrate and promote kids living an active lifestyle. Chico and Andy will be going around the Greater El Paso Area to surprise kids who make the choice to be active rather than live a sedentary way of life.

“Along with Gatorade and Pepsi, we are proud to work with the inspirational athletes in the Miracle League. These kids exemplify desire and determination,” said Brad Taylor, general manager of the El Paso Chihuahuas.

Included in the Gatorade GO PLAY program is a social media component. The Chihuahuas are asking how kids “GO PLAY”. Fans are encouraged to take a picture of themselves or their team being active and share it on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram using the markers #GatoradeGoPlayEPC and @epchihuahuas.

The best pictures and examples of living an active lifestyle will be featured by the Chihuahuas on their social media sites.

Chico will continue to make surprise visits over the next few weeks. Children are encouraged to remain active and keep an eye out for him.

Olivar concluded, “Last night was an incredible evening for our four competitive teams – Yankees, Longhorns, Fearless and Young Guns. Thank you to the Chihuahuas and Chico for a memorable night.”

Garrett Brockway Baseball Clinic set for May 9th

The Burlington Bees/Garrett Brockway Memorial spring baseball camp is set for May 9th for ages 7-14 at Community Field from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. The cost is just $25 per child.

Bees players will be on hand to teach the basics of hitting, throwing, and fielding. All proceeds will benefit the Garrett Brockway Foundation.

Garrett Brockway was only 10 years old when he passed away in March of 2013. He loved to play baseball and attended many Bees games.

Cougars Announce Charity Partnerships For 2015 Season

Partnerships with multiple organizations to positively impact local causes in 2015

The Kane County Cougars have announced a community outreach partnership for the 2015 season in which four organizations will receive a portion of the in-game 50/50 raffle proceeds through Ozzie’s Outreach Foundation, the Cougars’ charitable arm. Those four organizations are Project Backpack (April/May), DuPage Pads (June), Northern Illinois Food Bank (July) and Family Shelter Service (August/September). Also, the Cougars through their partnership with Acres Group, have announced that the Gateway Foundation Alcohol & Drug Treatment Centers will be the recipient of the charitable proceeds from this season’s “Pitch In For Charity” promotion in which fans, following select games, purchase and throw numbered tennis balls onto a target in order to win a prize.

Project Backpack (project-backpack.org) is a community-based initiative led by Elgin Community College that benefits local students who are in need of necessary school supplies.

DuPage Pads (dupagepads.org) has the solution to end homelessness with housing coupled with support services and employment which leads to improved health and economic sustainability.

Northern Illinois Food Bank (solvehungertoday.org) works with 800 community food pantries and feeding programs across 13 counties to solve hunger in northern Illinois by providing nutritious food to more than 71,000 people at risk of hunger each week. Volunteers can assist at one of their three centers including their west suburban location in Geneva.

Family Shelter Service (familyshelterservice.org), founded in 1976 and located in nearby Wheaton, transforms lives by offering help and hope to those affected by domestic violence.

Gateway Foundation Alcohol & Drug Treatment Centers (recovergateway.org) have provided the answers that individuals and their families need about drug and alcohol treatment. The organization has several treatment centers throughout Illinois, including nearby Aurora.

“Since the franchise’s inaugural season in 1991 and continuing through our upcoming 25^th anniversary season, the Cougars’ organization has strived to be the best possible neighbor by giving back to the community in many ways,” said Cougars Vice President/General Manager Curtis Haug.

“Through these types of initiatives, fans can see how deep our commitment is as an organization towards helping others in need,” said Cougars owner Dr. Bob Froehlich.

Added Cougars owner Cheryl Froehlich: “We are reminded more than ever when these milestone seasons occur, that the Cougars organization is aware of how much support that has been shown to us over the years and how critically important it is to give back.”

Charity outing at Shamrock Heights Golf Course to benefit The Miracle League of the Fox Valley

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers will be teeing off for a good cause at their annual Golf Outing on Monday, July 27. The day of fun and golf will be held at Shamrock Heights Golf Course in New London and benefit The Miracle League of the Fox Valley.

A foursome may register for $350. Foursomes have the opportunity to play with a Timber Rattlers player, but that chance is based on a first come, first serve RSVP. Individuals may register for $100.

The outing tees off with registration beginning at 8:00am and a shotgun start at 9:00am. Lunch is included with registration and will be served at the turn. Snacks will be available after the round of golf from 2-4pm. A raffle drawing and awards presentation will conclude the event.

The Miracle League of the Fox Valley, an organized baseball league for children aged 4-19 with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, was formed in 2008 by Fox Valley parents Lisa and Mark Robbins. Registration is open now through March 30 for players and volunteers for the 2015 Miracle League of the Fox Valley season, which starts on June 8. The league plays their games at the John Wollner Fox Cities Miracle Field in Appleton’s Memorial Park.

OKC Dodgers Announce Faith Night

Featuring pregame concert by Hawk Nelson on July 19

The Oklahoma City Dodgers will host the team’s first Faith Night on Sunday, July 19, the team announced today.

Popular Christian rock band Hawk Nelson will perform a pregame concert in the right field parking lot adjacent to Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark from 4-5 p.m. Following the concert, the OKC Dodgers will take on the Round Rock Express at 6:05 p.m.

Tickets packages for groups of 10 or more are currently on sale and can be purchased by calling (405) 218-2100. For just $15, fans will receive tickets to both the Hawk Nelson concert and the OKC Dodgers game, as well as an OKC Dodgers hat. At this time individual ticket packages are not available, nor are tickets for the concert only.

Since forming in 2003, Hawk Nelson has produced eight studio albums, with a ninth set to be released soon. The band has had 12 singles reach the top 20 on the contemporary hit radio charts, including three number-one hit songs. Their music has been featured by Major League Baseball, the National Football League, and NBC Sports.

“Hawk Nelson is a nationally-recognized name, and we’re excited they will be performing here,” said OKC Dodgers President/General Manager Michael Byrnes. “Faith Night fits in well with the rest of our promotional schedule, and the concert will be a perfect complement to another great night of Oklahoma City Dodgers baseball.”

Scholarship Applications Now Available

Foundation to award $30,000 in scholarships to N.H., Mass. students

The 2014 class of Fisher Cats Foundation Scholarship Winners.

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats and the Fisher Cats Foundation have announced the application process is now open for the 2015 Fisher Cats Foundation Scholar-Athlete Scholarships. The Foundation will award 12 scholarships to outstanding scholar-athletes from New Hampshire and Massachusetts who demonstrate academic excellence, significant athletic achievement, and active civic involvement. Each award is $2,500 and includes recognition at a Fisher Cats game during the 2015 season.

Applications are available simply by visiting the Fisher Cats’ website, www.nhfishercats.com, and clicking the heading COMMUNITY. Students can also find the application by clicking SCHOLARSHIP REGISTRATION at www.NHScholars.org.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. on April 30, 2015. A letter of recommendation from the applicant’s coach, FAFSA documentation, and the student’s high school transcript in an electronic format must be uploaded with the application. All applicants will be evaluated on academic performance, athletic achievement, and citizenship.

Candidates for the Fisher Cats Foundation Scholar-Athlete Scholarships must be residents of New Hampshire or Massachusetts who are graduating from high school in 2015. Candidates must be planning to enroll in a four-year degree program or planning to attend a local community college or technical school in the fall. Candidates do not need to be studying in any particular field.

Three of the scholarships have additional significance. The Chris Carpenter Award is named after New Hampshire native and National League Cy Young Award-winning pitcher, Chris Carpenter. The Swymer Family Scholarship is presented annually to a student who has overcome a barrier on the way to attending college. The Easter Seals Veterans Count Scholarship goes to a student whose parent or guardian is an active, reserve, or veteran member of the United States military.

In 2015, the Fisher Cats Foundation will award a total of $30,000 in scholarships with $5,000 of that amount earmarked to a pair of scholarships for Massachusetts students. Through 2014, the Fisher Cats have presented $230,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors since 2007.

Miracle Field Registration Begins March 6

The Rome Braves and Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority announce spring registration for the Braves Miracle Field of Rome. Registration begins Friday March 6^th through Rome-Floyd Parks & Recreation Authority and ends March 27^th. The registration fee remains $50 per player; however, there are scholarship opportunities for interested families.

On April 4^th we will host our pre-season practice at the field at 10am and uniforms will be distributed. Then the season will open up on Saturday April 11^th. The season will continue every Saturday through May 16^th with games at 10am, 11am, & 12pm.

Knights Announce 2015 Scholarships with Founding Partners

The Charlotte Knights are once again teaming up with two of their founding partners to provide educational funding through two unique scholarships for high school students. The Charlotte Knights Healthcare Scholarship, presented by Carolinas HealthCare System, along with the Charlotte Knights STEM Scholarship Program, presented by Piedmont Natural Gas, each represent the team’s focus on community initiatives.

“We are excited to once again team with Carolinas HealthCare System and Piedmont Natural Gas on these very important scholarships for local high school students,” said Chris Semmens, Charlotte Knights vice president of sales. “Supporting education is one of our primary goals and we look forward to working with our founding partners to help local students prepare for successful careers.”

The Knights and Carolinas HealthCare System began their partnership in 2013 with the Charlotte Knights Healthcare Scholarship program. That season, the Knights honored high school students John Dock Tallent (Appalachian State University), Gisele Bailey (Harvard University) and Stephanie Smith (UNC – Chapel Hill) as the inaugural recipients of the Charlotte Knights Healthcare Scholarship program presented by Carolinas HealthCare System. Last season, three more high school students were awarded a $1,000 scholarship each — Adam Miranda (NC State), Sarah York (Wake Forest), and Xena Nguyen (UNC – Chapel Hill).

In an effort to improve educational funding for high school students who are interested in pursuing a career in health care, the Charlotte Knights and Carolinas HealthCare System will once again provide three $1,000 college scholarships to local high school seniors in 2015.

“Carolinas HealthCare System’s vision is to lead the transformation of health care delivery and a key part of that effort is attracting the next generation of motivated, creative health care professionals,” said Carol Lovin, Executive Vice President of Carolinas HealthCare System. “Partnering with the Charlotte Knights to provide these scholarships is a great way to help turn that vision into reality.”

The Knights and Piedmont Natural Gas also will award three $1,000 college scholarships to high school seniors from the Charlotte region who plan to attend college and pursue studies in the STEM disciplines of science, technology, engineering or math. Last year, Piedmont and the Knights awarded three $1,000 scholarships to students attending college within Piedmont’s service territories in North and South Carolina. The three winners of the inaugural scholarship were EmmaLee Apple (Alamance Community College), James Reynolds (Bob Jones University), and Cody Wright (Guilford Technical Community College).

“STEM education is a focus area for Piedmont Natural Gas, and we are happy to join the Knights in offering these scholarships to students in the Charlotte region,” said Timothy Greenhouse, managing director of community relations for Piedmont Natural Gas. “Piedmont will continue to support programs like this that expand educational opportunities in our communities.”

The Carolinas HealthCare System scholarships will be awarded during an on-field ceremony at BB&T Ballpark on Tuesday, July 21, while the Piedmont Natural Gas scholarships will be awarded during an on-field ceremony on Thursday, July 23.

Did you know peanuts are one of the most common allergy-causing foods, especially in children? Peanut allergy symptoms can range from a minor irritation to a life-threatening reaction. If you have a peanut allergy, but really want to attend a Toledo Mud Hens game at Fifth Third Field, this is your opportunity!

The Hens will host two “peanut free events” this season. On Tuesday, April 21 and Thursday, April 23 fans with peanut allergies can purchase an all-inclusive ticket in a Mud Hens party suite, where all items served will be peanut-free products. The all-inclusive ticket will include an all-you-can-eat buffet meal! Fans with “peanut-free event” tickets will be provided early entry into the ballpark.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers will take donations for 91.9 & 91.5 The Family’s Help for the Homeless Hygiene Drive at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Saturday, March 7 from 10am to 3pm. The drive is to help stock the shelves of 79 homeless and crisis programs in 13 Wisconsin communities in our listening areas. The goal of Help for the Homeless is to supply a year’s worth of product to each agency.

The most needed items for the drive include:

Cleaning Supplies
Hair Care
Laundry Soap
Feminine Needs
Deodorant
Garbage Bags
Bathroom Tissue
Dental Care
Paper Towels
Diapers/Baby Care
Body Lotion
Face/Bath Soap

Individual game tickets for the 2015 season and Whiffer’s Birthday party will also be going on at the stadium from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 7. Fans who bring a donation to the Help for the Homeless Hygiene Drive to the event will receive an ice cream treat from Dairy Queen while supplies last.

If you cannot make it to the event at the ballpark on March 7, donations to the drive can be dropped off at boxes in area Shopko stores, Festival Foods, and Walgreen’s now through March 15. All donations will remain in the community with area homeless and crisis programs.
