Spikes, First National Bank form CCUW Home Run Club

Pledge donations for Spikes homers, earn free Spikes tickets!

State-College-SpikesThe State College Spikes will be providing fans a new way to show their support for the Centre County United Way in 2014 with the Home Run Club, presented by First National Bank. Fans will be able to make a pledge for each time a Spikes player hits a homer at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park this summer, and the donations will benefit the Centre County United Way and its 34 partner agencies.

Spikes fans will be encouraged to join First National Bank and the Spikes in making a pledge through public address announcements and videos during each game. Pledge cards can be filled out at Spikes games throughout the season at the Collegiate Pride Customer Service Center on the main concourse behind home plate.

United-WayAt the end of the season, businesses and individuals who have made home run pledges will be invited to participate in an on-field check presentation with First National Bank, Spikes and Centre County United Way representatives. Plus, any individual who joins the Home Run Club will receive two (2) free Spikes tickets to a future game.

“Our ability to improve lives in Centre County is a direct result of the support and advocacy of the Spikes and First National Bank,” said Tammy Gentzel, Executive Director of Centre County United Way. “We are having fun with this opportunity to ‘play ball’ and to Live United with two incredible community partners. We hope Spikes fans will join in the fun and make the Home Run Club a great success.”

The Spikes’ partnership with the Centre County United Way this season also includes the seventh annual Centre County United Way Partner Agency Series. The Partner Agency Series will shine the spotlight on 15 different organizations over the course of the summer.

Miracle host 5th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night

Fort-Myers-Miracle-2014On Saturday, June 7, the Fort Myers Miracle will host a very special evening at the ballpark with the 5th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night presented by the Lee Regional Cancer Center and 96.9 MORE FM.

The Miracle play the Lakeland Flying Tigers at 6:05 p.m. at Hammond Stadium and fireworks will light up the Southwest Florida sky after the game. Breast cancer survivors will receive a free ticket to the game. The first 500 women to come through the gates will receive a pink bag compliments of Vein Specialists.

Lee-Regional-Cancer-CenterIn honor of breast cancer survivors, the Miracle will wear pink jerseys that will be available for auction during the game. The auction will take place on the concourse and conclude in the middle of the sixth inning. Fans with the winning bids will be invited onto the field after the game to receive the jersey from the respective player.

The silent auction will also other items including a Key West Express tickets, local hotel and restaurant certificates, dinner and show for four from the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre, a Chicago White Sox Robin Ventura autographed jersey, a Paul Molitor autographed jersey and ball and much more.

A portion of the net proceeds from the jersey auction, silent auction and raffles will benefit the Lee Memorial Health Systems Regional Cancer Center to assist with mammogram services for uninsured and underinsured patients.

Prior to the game, a survivor walk will begin at 5:15 p.m. around the warning track at Hammond Stadium. Fans who are survivors, and their families, are invited to take part.

Fans can enjoy a SINK or SWIM Saturday. For just $12, fans get a wristband for All You Can Drink domestic draft beers through the sixth inning.

Connecticut-Tigers-2014The Connecticut Tigers, in partnership with the Better Business Bureau, announce the 2014 Connecticut Military All-Stars promotion in conjunction with the annual Military Appreciation Night.

For the second consecutive year, the Better Business Bureau Military Line will be the presenting sponsor of Military Appreciation Night on Friday, August 8th. The Tigers and Better Business Bureau have teamed up with The Day to help recognize nine individuals for their service on that night.

A panel of community judges will select the nine nominees they feel best fit the spirit of the promotion to be honored on the field prior to the game on August 8th. In addition, those selected will be part of a commemorative Connecticut Military All-Stars baseball card set given away to the first 1,000 fans through the gates that night courtesy of the Better Business Bureau Military Line.

All current and former military will receive a reserved ticket and a food voucher redeemable for a hot dog, bag of chips, and non-alcoholic bottle beverage for just $7 when showing their military ID at the Dodd Stadium box office on August 8th. In addition, the Tigers will be wearing special “stars and stripes” uniform tops that will be auctioned off during the game on the concourse. Fans will have the opportunity to bid on the jerseys in a silent auction. The proceeds from that auction will go towards a scholarship for a deserving military family to help offset the cost of college tuition through the Better Business Bureau Military Line.

There is also a $2 discount off Premium, Reserved, and Grandstand tickets with a military ID at the Dodd Stadium box office for all Connecticut Tigers games.

The Connecticut Tigers are the New York-Penn League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play a 76 game schedule that runs from mid June through early September. The 2014 home schedule begins Wednesday, June 18th against the Lowell Spinners (Red Sox affiliate) with fireworks after the game presented by US Foods! 2014 season tickets, mini plans, individual game tickets, and team merchandise are now on sale! Redcay Strong Community Day Slated for June 14th

Reading-Fightin-Phils-2014Following the overwhelming support from the Muhlenberg Township community to raise funds for the Derrick Redcay Strong fund on Saturday, May 3rd’s game, the Reading Fightin Phils will be hosting Redcay Strong Community Day at FirstEnergy Stadium on Saturday, June 14th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. thanks to Savage 61, Forino, and Lowe’s.

Admission to the event is free for all ages. A $10 wristband for unlimited access to children’s activities during the afternoon will also be available at the event.

Derrick-Redcay-StrongAs part of the day’s festivities, Savage 61 will be donating a brand new 2014 Dodge Dart to be raffled off at $10/ticket. All money earned through the raffle will go to the Redcay Strong fund. Savage 61 will also be coordinating a handicap accessible van for Derrick and his family.

Lowe’s will also be donating supplies to the Redcay family in order for them make the family garage accessible for Derrick.

The event benefits the Derrick Redcay Strong fund, which has been set up to assist with the ongoing expenses related to the support and care of Derrick and his family. Local fire companies, ambulance, police department, township, and school officials have joined forces with his church Alsace Lutheran in the fundraising efforts.

On April 24, 18 year-old Muhlenberg High School senior Redcay suffered a rare stroke to his spinal cord that severed his nerves at the C4-C6 area. As a result, Redcay no longer has sensations and movement below his neck and needs assistance with breathing, which his family hopes is temporary.

Derrick is a member of the high school varsity baseball team, the Alsace Lutheran Church Youth Group, and is a member of the National Technical Honor Society, earned by maintaining a 3.5 GPA since the 9th grade. Derrick is also a volunteer firefighter with the Goodwill Fire Company, helping out at a 5-alarm blaze in the township less than 24 hours before he was stricken. Derrick has been accepted to the University of New Haven to study Fire Science.

Volunteers from the Redcay Strong fund will be on hand June 14th to sell Redcay Strong t-shirts, bracelets, and decals with the proceeds going to the fund.

The day of fun will feature live music on the Weston Center Winning Smiles Stage. In addition, businesses, organizations, and individuals will be running stands, games, and activities throughout Tompkins VIST Bank Plaza. A list of the activities can be found below:

Richmond-Flying-SquirrelsThe Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants are excited to announce that once again Homefront IPA, a specialty beer brewed by Center of the Universe Brewery with all proceeds going directly to Operation Homefront, will be released at The Diamond and available for a limited time on Friday night. Center of the Universe Brewery along with 10 other designated breweries across the country brew this IPA for the Memorial Day weekend to benefit Operation Homefront, a non-profit with a nationwide organization that provides emergency and other financial assistance to the families of service members and wounded warriors. Operation Homefront has provided assistance to thousands of military families since its inception in 2002. The 11 breweries combined donate 100% of proceeds and will raise a minimum of $150,000 for Operation Homefront this year.

Operation-Homefront“Homefront IPA is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to all of the men and women who dedicate themselves to protecting our safety and our way of life,” said Chris Ray, Co-founder of Center of the Universe and former Major League pitcher. “By releasing this beer so close to Memorial Day at The Diamond, we hope to give a reminder to everyone of how important the past, present, and future members of our armed forces are and to remember the ultimate sacrifices so many have made in their pursuit of our freedom.”

A limited amount of Homefront IPA will be for sale at the top of the main entrance to the right of the stage. It is brewed with West Coast hops, fresh orange zest, and aged on Louisville Slugger Maple bats. The bats will then be auction off with the proceeds also benefiting Operation Homefront.

Naturals to Raise Money for Tornado Relief at Arvest Ballpark

Team puts programs in place over Memorial Day weekend to help tornado victims in Arkansas

Northwest-Arkansas-NaturalsThe Northwest Arkansas Naturals are teaming up to help the Salvation Army Northwest Arkansas Area Command as they assist with the recovery efforts after devastating tornadoes hit Central and North Central Arkansas in late April.

This Memorial Day weekend, the Naturals will do our Launch-A-Ball Fundraiser – normally done after each Friday home game – following the Post-Game Fireworks Spectacular on both Friday, May 23rd and Sunday, May 25th. Fans can purchase Launch-A-Balls for $1 at each game, and then try and hit targets on the field after the game to win prizes from the Naturals. In addition, 100% of the proceeds will be given to the Salvation Army Northwest Arkansas Area Command to help tornado victims in Arkansas.

Salvation-ArmyOn Saturday, May 24th, the Naturals will hold a memorabilia auction behind Section 109 on the concourse that will feature signed memorabilia from the Naturals, the Kansas City Royals, and other Minor and Major League organizations. Like with Launch-A-Ball, 100% of the auction proceeds will go to tornado relief efforts and the Salvation Army.

Items that will be up for auction on Saturday night include a Vance Wilson Jersey, a Wil Myers Jersey, a Brian Poldberg Kansas City Royals Jersey, a Frank White autographed Wichita Wranglers Jersey, a 2008 Naturals’ team autographed jersey, along with a wide array of autographed baseballs, and other items collected over the past few weeks. The auction will end in the middle of the 6th inning.

“Our hearts go out to those affected by this devastating weather,” said Justin Cole, Naturals General Manager. “The needs of these areas will go on for a long time, and we wanted to do our part to continue to raise funds and awareness for their recovery.”

Everett-AquaSoxThe Everett AquaSox announced today that they are partnering with the Providence Comprehensive Breast Center for Pink at the Park at the Everett AquaSox-Spokane Indians game on Friday, June 27. The event will celebrate women’s health, raise awareness and proceeds will benefit the Breast Center.

AquaSox players and coaches will be wearing pink jerseys on the 27th, which will be autographed and auctioned off during the game. There will be face painting and hair painting available in the concourse, an information fair on women’s health as well as a raffle for several gift baskets. Proceeds from all of these elements will go to the Providence General Foundation’s Comprehensive Breast Center Fund to help raise awareness for local breast cancer detection and treatment.

Lakewood-BlueClaws-LogoThe BlueClaws are proud to hold their 14th annual ALS Celebrity Waiter Event on Wednesday, June 4th at TGI Friday’s on Route 70 in Brick.

The event, which started in 2001, raises money for the ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia, the principal charity of the Philadelphia Phillies.

ALS-logo2This marks the third straight year the event will be at TGI Friday’s in Brick. There will be two seatings: one at 5:30 and another at 7:00. As in years past, BlueClaws players will be serving as the waiters, and coaches will serve as bartenders.

20% of every check, plus 100% of all tips, will be donated directly to the ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia.

Reservations are encouraged and can be made by calling 732-262-0937.

“This has been a wonderful partnership between the BlueClaws and the ALS Association over the last 13 years and we are looking forward to what is always a great event,” said Jim DeAngelis, BlueClaws Director of Community Relations.

“The Phillies and their family have raised money to fight ALS for 30 years and here at the minor league level, the BlueClaws have been able to do the same since our inception in 2001,” he added.

The ALS Celebrity Waiter event has raised nearly $125,000 in its first 13 years.

There will also be a silent auction, while BlueClaws players will sign autographs and pose for pictures throughout the night.

The BlueClaws are the Jersey Shore’s top stop for affordable, family entertainment. They have led the South Atlantic League in attendance in all 13 years of existence.

Kia Country Pink in the Park This Saturday

Savannah-Sand-GnatsOn Saturday, May 17, the Savannah Sand Gnats will join forces with Kia Country of Savannah and Susan G. Komen For the Cure Coastal Georgia Affiliate to bring awareness to breast cancer education and research.

“Pink in the Park is one of the most emotional nights of the season,” said team president, John Katz. “We celebrate the Survivors, remember those that lost the fight, and reinforce the message that early detection is critical.”

Susan-G.-KomenAs in years past, Sand Gnats players and coaches will take the field in special pink jerseys. Throughout the game, fans are encouraged to bid on each jersey. After the game, the highest bidders will be presented with their jersey by their respective player or coach.

All proceeds from the pink jersey auction go directly to Susan G. Komen For the Cure Coastal Georgia Affiliate.

“It is through the generous support of Kia Country of Savannah that provides the opportunity for us to donate 100% of the proceeds from the Jersey Auction to Susan G. Komen for the Cure Coastal Georgia Affiliate,” added Katz.

Any breast cancer survivors who participated in the most recent Race for the Cure on April 12, are asked to wear their race t-shirt for free admission to the baseball game. Charleston-RiverDogsThere aren’t many things more American than baseball, cold beer, and our Military. That trio will come together in a big way this year as the Charleston RiverDogs and Palmetto Brewery have partnered to help raise funds for military themed charity Operation Homefront.

The Class A affiliate of the New York Yankees will be the first venue in Charleston to sell Homefront IPA, and all proceeds benefit Operation Homefront. The RiverDogs will sell this special beer with the slogan “Hops for Heroes” during their home game against the Asheville Tourists on Thursday, May 29 to coincide with Military Appreciation Night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Operation-HomefrontHomefront IPA was developed in 2011 by Fremont Brewing Company of Seattle, Wash., and Center of the Universe Brewing Company of Ashland, Va., in order to raise money and awareness for Operation Homefront.

Aged on Louisville Slugger maple bats, this specially-made craft beer does more than just quench one’s thirst as it improves the lives of our soldiers. Homefront IPA is a unique charity beer in that 100 percent of the proceeds are donated to Operation Homefront. One of the solid Maple Bats will be auctioned off during the game to raise money as well.

“We feel certain that our fans that enjoy a craft beer will certainly enjoy Homefront IPA while assisting our military troops and their families,” said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols. “We’re proud to have first rights and to be the only site in the state of South Carolina to get this beer.”

“Palmetto Brewing Company is honored to support this very worthy cause with the Charleston RiverDogs,” said Ed Falkenstein, Founder, Palmetto Brewing Company. “We recognize the service of our men and women in the Armed Forces and respect the sacrifice they and their families make every day. Palmetto Brewing, located in downtown Charleston, is one of only two Southeastern distributors (Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, Fla. is the other) that dispense Homefront IPA. Other providers include Center of the Universe Brewing Company of Ashland, Va.; Fremont Brewing Company of Seattle, Wash.; Sly Fox of Pottstown, Pa.; Perennial Artisan Ales of St. Louis, Mo.; Saint Arnold Brewing Company of Houston; Left Hand Brewing Company of Longmont, Co.; Stone Brewing Company of Escondido, Calif.; and Maui Brewing Company of Lahaina, Hi.

Operation Homefront is a nonprofit organization that provides emergency assistance for American military troops, the families they leave behind, and wounded servicemen when they return home. The organization raises funds to provide emergency, financial, and morale assistance to families while troops are participating in a tour of duty. Since its creation in 2002 Operation Homefront has met over 741,000 needs of military families and military personnel returning from duty.

Operation Homefront was developed to support the families of deployed service members immediately following 9/11. Headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, the organization currently provides services to military families across the nation with 23 locations serving 43 states. The national office handles cases in states that do not have their own local offices. The majority of its clients are the lowest-paid service members, the E-1 through E-6 enlisted ranks.

Greenville-DriveOn Tuesday, May 13th, the Greenville Drive will host the 4th annual Drive Business Downtown game presented by Elliott Davis. First pitch for the Drive game against the West Virginia Power is at 2:05.

Drive Business Downtown is a celebration in and about the heart of Greenville. Attendees will be able to enjoy the game with co-workers, network with downtown business associates, entertain clients and prospects, and watch company execs compete in on-field games.

Harvest-Hope-Food-BankHarvest Hope Food Bank will serve as this year’s Drive Business Downtown Charity, and each booster company attending the game is spearheading a fundraising effort to help raise money for Harvest Hope. Following the game, a VIP reception for designated Young Professionals of the booster companies will be held at The Lazy Goat on River Place in Downtown Greenville.

If you’re itching to see more baseball after the Drive game is complete, you’re in luck, as Fluor Field will host Furman and Clemson at 7:00 in a matchup of two outstanding baseball teams from the Upstate! The game marks the final game of the 2014 College Baseball Series at Fluor Field presented by BB&T. Separate tickets will be required for this game.

Swing For A Cure Will Have City Stadium Seeing Pink

Lynchburg-HillcatsThe Hillcats will have everyone wearing pink on Saturday, May 17th will the 8th Annual “Swing For A Cure” Breast Cancer Awareness Night presented by Centra’s Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center! Proceeds from this event will benefit the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation.

General admission tickets for the 6:05pm game against the Wilmington Blue Rocks will be $10, with a portion of each ticket being donated to the fight against cancer. Plus, the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a free pink t-shirt! All Hillcats players will don pink commemorative jerseys which will then be up for bid during a silent auction during the game.

Susan-G.-KomenIt’s estimated that there will be 232,670 reported new cases of invasive breast cancer in the United States in 2014 and as many as 1 in 800 women in Virginia alone, may be diagnosed each year. The Susan G. Komen Foundation was created in 1982 by Komen’s sister and has since raised $2.5 billion for research, treatments, and support for survivors.

4th Annual Cutters 5K Run to Benefit CDC

Williamsport-CrosscuttersThe Williamsport Crosscutters, in partnership with the Children’s Development Center, will be holding the 4th Annual Cutters 5K on Saturday, June 28th at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field.

The race, through Williamsport’s West End, begins at 9am with registration open at 8am. The course has runners starting outside the ballpark entrance with the final sprint inside the stadium finishing at home plate. Both runners and walkers are encouraged to take part in the event.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Children’s Development Center of Williamsport. Since 1923, the CDC has been providing services to children with special needs from birth to 21 years of age. Last year’s event attracted over 200 participants while raising over $10,000 for the CDC.

CDC-Childrens-Development-Center“Since the affiliation between Hope Enterprises and the Children’s Development Center was finalized, both organizations have been working together to enhance the service options for children and their families in our area. Having the support of our community with events such as the Cutters 5K, allows us to be better prepared to meet the needs of those to be served” stated Hope Enterprises President, Jim Campbell.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in seven male and female age categories. In addition to the prize awards, the top male and female runners will throw out ceremonial first pitches at the Williamsport Crosscutters game that evening. Prizes will also be awarded to the top three male and female walkers.

“We are proud to partner with the CDC again on this event. It just keeps growing every year”, said Cutters Vice-President of Marketing Gabe Sinicropi.

Registration is $15 in advance and $20 on race day. All participants receive a race t-shirt (while supplies last), and a ticket to the June 29th Crosscutters vs. Mahoning Valley Scrappers game at 7:05pm. Edwin St.   Sponsorships of the event are also still available.

Sunday, August 3rd, at Avista Stadium, will mark the eighth year that the Indians and the Susan G. Komen Foundation have collaborated on the event, with proceeds benefiting the Eastern Washington Chapter of the Komen Foundation.

Susan-G.-Komen“The Spokane Indians have not only helped us raise much needed funds to screen, educate and get services to women in Eastern Washington, they have help raise awareness and share hope that we will find a cure,” said Claudia Bell, executive director of the Eastern Washington’s Komen Chapter. “The Eastern Washington affiliate looks forward to this fun-filled evening every year!”

The short one-mile flat walk begins at 3:00 PM and circles around Avista Stadium before finishing on the field where the participants will be recognized in a special pre-game ceremony. The game against the Hillsboro Hops begins at 3:30 PM as Spokane players will wear limited edition pink jerseys that will be auctioned off to support the cause.

Last year, the Indians helped raise $5,529 for the Komen Foundation.

The cost for the walk is $25 for adults and $15 for kids 12 and under. Participants will receive a technical T-shirt, a donation in their name to the Eastern Washington affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and a ticket to the Spokane Indians baseball game that night against Hillsboro

Deadline for early registration is Friday, July 18th, with a late registration fee of $5 after this date. Participants have until the day of event to sign-up. Packet pick-up is scheduled for Friday, August 1st from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Spokane Indians Team Store located at Avista Stadium (602 N. Havana) and the day of the walk starting at 2:30 PM at Avista Stadium.
