Brooklyn-CyclonesStarting on Monday, December 2nd and running through Friday, December 13th the Brooklyn Cyclones will be collecting toys at MCU Park to be distributed to those in need this holiday season.  Anyone who donates a toy, valued at $10 or more, will receive a FREE box seat to our Christmas in July Celebration on July 25th. (Limit One Per Person, not per toy)

You can bring your new, unwrapped toys to the MCU Park administrative offices during normal business hours (9 to 5, Monday through Friday).  In addition, there will be a special Holiday Party on Tuesday, December 10th from 6:00 – 8:00PM in the Cyclones team store.  Fans will receive a special offer of 50% off everything in stock  and have a chance to take their photo with Santa and Sandy.  The team will also be collecting non-perishable food items for local food pantries as part of Brooklyn Eats Cares.

Santa Claus is Coming…Back to PNC Field

Scranton-W-B-RailRiders-logoIt’s the most wonderful time of the year…for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) fans that is. On Saturday, Dec. 13 from 9 a.m.-11 a.m., the big man himself, Santa Claus, and several of his friends will be on hand in the Mohegan Sun Club at PNC Field for breakfast and more.

The full breakfast features scrambled eggs, mini-pancakes, home fries, ham, sausage, juice and coffee. The accent sure to excite – a hot chocolate bar with all the fixins kids can add including sprinkles, marshmallows, candy canes, whipped cream and chocolate syrup.

There will be activities for the little ones as well with craft tables sporting: reindeer puppets, candy cane reindeer ornaments, Christmas cookie decoration and Christmas cards for veterans. Every guest will also be eligible for three different baseball-related prize giveaways on a raffle basis during the breakfast. One lucky guest will receive a grand prize giveaway of four tickets to Opening Day 2015.

Toys-for-Tots-logo-2014bSanta and the RailRiders’ mascots will be available for pictures along with the chance for a Christmas family photo in the RailRiders clubhouse. The Marines will be on hand as well to accept new, unwrapped Toys for Tots donations. The first 100 people to donate toys will receive a RailRiders baseball. The team store, SWB Station, will have gear available for your holiday needs.

Tickets for the event are on sale now in advance at the PNC Field box office (open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.), or the day of the event. All payments will be run through the box office and guests shall receive tickets that must be presented at the door to gain entrance to the breakfast. The ticket prices are $12.00 for adults and $6.00 for kids 3-12. Children that are 2 and under will be allowed in at no charge.

Bees Participate in “We Care We Share” Thanksgiving Dinner

Salt-Lake-BeesThe Salt Lake Bees staff participated in the 16th annual “We Care – We Share” Thanksgiving Dinner for local homeless and low-income residents at EnergySolutions Arena on Tuesday. Along with representatives from Salt Lake City Mission, Utah Food Services, All-Star Catering, Hill Air Force Base and Miller Sports Properties the Bees staff helped dish out over 3,800 meals for local residents in need.

Salt-Lake-City-MissionThe gathering also featured a winter clothing distribution, musical entertainment from the Salt Lake City Mission and activity packets for children.

“The holidays are a time for fellowship and cheer, and our family has been blessed to be able to provide a festive gathering and hot meals for the last 16 years to Salt Lake residents who are experiencing hardships,” said Gail Miller, owner, Larry H. Miller Group of Companies.

Holiday Purchases Will Benefit The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey

Trenton-ThunderThe tenth annual Trenton Thunder Gift of Baseball program begins today, giving fans the chance to share the experience of cheering on the hometown team with underprivileged families in our community. For each Season Ticket, Pic-A-Plan and Mini Plan purchased between November 24 and December 19, the Thunder will provide tickets for families in the Holiday Gift Outreach program run by Children’s Home Society to attend a 2015 Thunder game.

“Our fans and corporate partners deserve a big “thank you” for supporting this initiative every year,” said Thunder General Manager Will Smith. “We’re hoping even more families can visit ARM & HAMMER Park next season thanks to our fans’ holiday shopping.”

Childrens-Home-Society-NJIn its first nine years, the Gift of Baseball program has allowed the Thunder to donate a total of 6,344 tickets to the Children’s Home Society.

“We are so grateful to the Trenton Thunder for once again sharing this wonderful ‘Gift of Baseball’ with the children we serve,” said Donna C. Pressma, CHSofNJ President and CEO. She continued, “This gift allows hundreds of our children to experience a live baseball game. Trenton-ThunderThe Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, scored 298 runs on their way to 31 victories at ARM & HAMMER Park this season, but the real winner this season was the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) thanks to NJM Insurance Group and their Safe at Home program.

As part of the Safe at Home program, NJM made a $14,900 donation, based on $50 per run scored at ARM & HAMMER Park, to TASK. With this season’s donation, NJM’s Safe at Home program has donated more than $45,000 to local non-profits over the last three years.

Trenton-Area-Soup-Kitchen“Thanks to the hard work of the Thunder offense this season and NJM Insurance, the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen can continue their mission of feeding those that are hungry and offer programs that encourage self sufficiency and improve the quality of life of their patrons,” said Thunder Director of Community Relations T.J. Jahn. “This program is precisely the type of program that the Trenton Thunder strive to promote; one that includes a great corporate partner, NJM, and enriches our community and its residents.”

Paws for Presents

El Paso Fire Department and the Chihuahuas Team Up for Toy Drive

El-Paso-Chihuahuas-2014The El Paso Fire Department and the El Paso Chihuahuas have teamed together to make the holiday season brighter for children as they proudly present “Paws for Presents”, a toy drive benefiting the Child Crisis Center.

The drive continues through Saturday, Dec. 13. The Chihuahuas and EPFD request all gifts be new and not gift wrapped for children up to the age of 13. The team will categorize and deliver to the Child Crisis Center.

Child-Crisis-Center“Being the recipient of these donated gifts allows us to provide Christmas for children that are most needy,” said Al Velarde, Executive Director of the Child Crisis Center. “Last year, our center was able to provide 740 gifts to children in the El Paso Community. Not only did we provide for the children and families we served, we were able to work with other non-profit organizations who had identified families that needed assistance during the holidays.”

The Child Crisis Center of El Paso protects children from abuse and neglect by providing shelter, advocacy, and family support services.

Donations can be dropped off at the 35 El Paso neighborhood fire stations or the Chihuahuas Team Shop located at 1 Ballpark Plaza on Durango St. The Team Shop is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The store is closed on Sundays.

“We hope our great community will join the El Paso Fire Department and the Chihuahuas in bringing gifts and joy to the local children this holiday season. Please participate,” said Chihuahuas general manager, Brad Taylor.

“The El Paso Fire Department and its membership are excited to partner up with the Chihuahuas for this worthwhile cause,” said Lieutenant James Schaerfl. “We hope the toy drive helps the Child Crisis Center bring joy to the lives of the children it serves during this Holiday Season. I’m positive that the community will give from their hearts and this event will be a great success.

BlueClaws Charities Makes Mark Through Community Grant Program

Lakewood-BlueClaws-LogoBlueClaws Charities has completed its 6th annual grant process. After analyzing the applications, BlueClaws Charities handed out grants to 34 Community Partner organizations in Monmouth & Ocean Counties.

BlueClaws Charities, a registered 501c3 organization, raises money at all 70 BlueClaws home games. A 50/50 raffle, special jersey auctions, and miscellaneous programs are used to raise money during games. The annual “Phillies Winter Banquet,” “ALS Celebrity Waiter Event,” “Bowling With the BlueClaws,” and the “BlueClaws Charities Nine & Dine Golf Outing” are additional fundraising initiatives conducted by BlueClaws Charities.

Each organization, also 501c3s, becomes eligible for a grant through a season-long partnership with the BlueClaws.

“This grant program is the culmination of the BlueClaws Charities year and we are very grateful to everyone that supports the organization in any way,” said BlueClaws Charities Executive Director Jim DeAngelis. “Without the support of the fans and donors, we would not be able to aid our magnificent Community Partner organizations.”

The following non-profit organizations received a cash grant from BlueClaws Charities (alphabetical order): ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Red Cross (Jersey Coast Chapter), Ashley Lauren Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County, Caregivers Volunteers of Central Jersey, Central Jersey Blood Center, David’s Dream and Believe Cancer Foundation, Enable Inc., Exit 82 Theatre Company, Family Options Adoptions, Family Resource Associates, First Tee of Monmouth & Ocean Counties, Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore, Go 4 the Goal, LADACIN Network, Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski Memorial Fund, Monmouth County SPCA, Mya Lin Terry Foundation, NJ TEARS, Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity, Ocean County Shriners Club, Ocean County YMCA, Ocean’s Harbor House, Raising Hope for Others, RJM Sports Group, Saint Vincent DePaul Society of Ocean County, Salvation Army of Ocean County, Susan G. Komen For the Cure of Central & South Jersey, Tom Giannattasio Jr. Memorial Fund, United Way of Monmouth County, United Way of Ocean County.

All Community Partners that completed the grant application were rewarded with a grant. Each partner was asked to describe the program within their organization that would benefit from the grant, with the requirement that the grant be allocated to Ocean or Monmouth County.

BlueClaws Charities, in addition to the grant program, supports hundreds of non-profit organizations with gift package donations, golf outing hole-in-one sponsorships, and specialty organizations such as OCEAN, Inc., a federal program that assists the less fortunate in the community. The “Tickets for Kids Program,” another BlueClaws Charities initiative, donates over 2,000 tickets to underserved youths in Lakewood and elsewhere in Ocean County.

Community Partners raise money through a BlueClaws fundraiser outing and have the opportunity to volunteer in the FirstEnergy Park concession stands to raise additional funds. These organizations also receive exposure through on-field presentations, table displays, and on BlueClaws.com, plus they have special opportunities to hold events, such as charity walks, at FirstEnergy Park.

The Lakewood BlueClaws are the Jersey Shore’s top stop for affordable, family entertainment. They have led the South Atlantic League and New Jersey in attendance in each year of their existence. 2015 will be their historic 15th season of family fun.

Midwest League Fines Benefit Stateline Community Foundation

Beloit-SnappersThe Beloit Snappers have selected the Stateline Community Foundation to receive the donation resulting from the Midwest League’s On-Field Behavior Policy. The League splits up the amount of player fines it collects evenly between all 16 teams in the league. This year the Snappers will donate its share, $529.00, to this great charitable organization.

Each season, the Midwest League asks its member teams to select a deserving group or organization in their respective community to receive a portion of the money collected from fines handed out as part of the league On-Field Behavior Policy. Past organizations selected have included Beloit Turner High School Baseball Program, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Beloit Memorial High School Baseball Program, Beloit Youth Hockey Association, Stateline Youth Sports Complex, Rock County Habitat for Humanity, the YMCA’s Partners of Youth Program, Caritas Inc., and Hands of Faith.

Stateline-Community-Foundation“We appreciate this opportunity to support the Stateline Community Foundation,” stated Snappers President, Dennis Conerton. “We are more than happy to partner with this foundation that helps the Stateline community have a better quality of life. Through the program, our players learn how to take a negative experience and learn from it. The lessons they learn benefit their on-field behavior, personal development and the greater good of the community.”

This annual contribution is just one of the many ways the Snappers and Midwest League Teams make efforts to give back to their communities. The Snappers are very involved in the Stateline Community, donating to hundreds of different causes each and every year.

PawSox win Moss Community Service Award

Pawtucket-Red-SoxMinor League Baseball announced today that the Pawtucket Red Sox are the recipients of the second annual John Henry Moss Community Service Award. The award was created in 2013 by Minor League Baseball in honor of the late John Henry Moss, who founded what would become the South Atlantic League in 1959 and headed the circuit until 2007. In its inaugural year, the Grand Junction Rockies were named the winners of the recognition. The Pawtucket Red Sox will receive their award at the Baseball Winter Meetings Banquet on Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront in San Diego, California.

“The PawSox family is extremely honored to be selected for the 2014 John Henry Moss Community Service Award,” said Pawtucket Red Sox President Mike Tamburro. “The role of any successful franchise must be to help lift those in its community who are in need. The past four decades we have quietly tried to do our part.

“We take great pride in our ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life within our community and for creating partnerships that have carried on for generations. We share this award with our community, our Major League partner the Boston Red Sox and our wonderful fans who make all our charitable efforts possible,” added Tamburro.

American-Parkinson-Disease-AssociationFor the last 38 seasons, the Pawtucket Red Sox have been an integral part of their local community. Along with providing the best in affordable family entertainment, the PawSox primary goal as a team is to be actively involved in making a difference in Southeastern New England. The PawSox are strong financial supporters of countless charitable organizations and youth-based programs in their area, and every staff member either serves on a Board of Directors, sits on Advisory Council or volunteers in some capacity with multiple community organizations.

American-Cancer-Society-logThe Pawtucket Red Sox Charitable Trust has contributed to hundreds of charitable organizations and important causes in the area, donating more than $250,000 during the last five years. For almost 40 years, the PawSox have also contributed to local charities through the team’s Ticket Fundraiser Program. This program has donated more than $200,000 over the last five years to worthy organizations such as American Parkinson’s Disease Association and the American Cancer Society, among many others.

Leukemia-and-Lymphoma-SocietyThe PawSox have also supported their community by hosting a number of fundraising events on non-gamedays including the Jeffrey Osborne Foundation, which benefits inner city youngsters in the Providence, Rhode Island, area. This event included an All-Star Softball Classic game held at McCoy Stadium featuring celebrities from the sports and entertainment worlds. Light the Night Leukemia Walk, held on Sept. 27, at McCoy Stadium, was another of the team’s non-gameday events. Approximately 2,000 walkers participated and raised $250,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Boy-Scouts-logo3Both the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts have benefited from the PawSox generosity to the community. For the last five years, the PawSox have hosted five events at McCoy Stadium annually and donated $10,000 each year to the Boy Scouts. The team has also hosted the Girl Scouts Project Undercover, a clothing drive for needy families in the community, collecting hundreds of new socks, underwear and diapers.

Although the PawSox are busy contributing to the community year-round, the team also supports its own employees by providing five $2,000 college scholarships to seasonal workers who are selected based on their outstanding work ethic during the season.

Charleston-RiverDogsThe holidays are right around the corner and the Charleston RiverDogs, the Lowcountry’s professional sports leader, has orchestrated three community-involved programs to help those in need.

“The holiday season will be upon us very soon, and the RiverDogs will once again continue with our commitment to be good citizens and neighbors,” said General Manager Dave Echols. “Our staff is excited to start the holiday season, and part of the season is giving back. And we’ll do it with our ‘Fun Is Good’ approach.”

Goodwill2Beginning on Tuesday, November 18 from 9 am – 6:30 pm, the club will host at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park a clothing donation drive for Palmetto Goodwill. While the RiverDogs will make a significant clothing donation, the club’s staffers will also clean out their own closets and donate items to Goodwill. Fans are invited to stop by Riley Park and donate some of their clothing to Goodwill, and we’ll treat you to a cup of free hot chocolate and a voucher for a game in 2015. The RiverDogs’ popular mascot, Charlie T. RiverDog, will be on hand and will donate a bag of his clothing. Charlie also encourages other local mascots to join in the activities.

Lowcountry Food BankThen on Friday, Nov. 21, beginning at 12 noon, the club will host its annual staff/ RiverDogs Potluck Lunch. This year the Potluck Lunch will also be a food drive in conjunction with the Lowcountry Food Bank. In this, the RiverDogs invite their season ticket holders and many loyal fans to The Joe to spend “Thanksgiving” with us as we collect food. Those who come are encouraged to bring a food dish and canned food for the drive. A RSVP is requested to haley@riverdogs.com.

Salvation-ArmyAnd finally on Saturday, December 13 beginning at 11 am, the RiverDogs will offer the opportunity kids and fans to have pictures taken with “Charlie Claus” and Santa as the team hosts a toy drive in conjunction with the Salvation Army. Here, families may come to The Joe and have their kids get a free picture with Charlie and Santa Claus. In order to get a picture taken, one must donate a child’s new toy to the Salvation Army.

At the event, Christmas music will be played over the park’s public address system, vendors will be on hand with their goods set up on tables. There will also be a special Christmas-themed craft section and the popular bounce house will be open. Light snacks and hot cocoa will also be available. And as a bonus, the RiverDogs will donate $1 for every Kids Club Member who attends the event. Santa will only be at The Joe for a limited time.

Cougars Kick Off Winter Coat Drive

Fans who donate an item will receive one undated ticket voucher, valid for a 2015 regular season Cougars game

Kane-County-CougarsThe Kane County Cougars, along with the South Elgin Lions Club, have formally kicked off the 2014 Winter Coat Drive at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. The Cougars have been proud partners with Lions International for many years and beginning on November 11, both the Cougars and Lions International are counting on fans’ generosity this holiday season.

Fans are asked to bring a gently-used winter coat or winter outerwear item to the Cougars’ administrative office lobby (2-story glass building located next to Gate 3) between 9 AM and 5 PM Monday-Friday. Lions-InternationalIn conjunction with the South Elgin Lions Club, the Cougars are collecting items that will be donated to area families who are in need this winter. Fans who donate an item will receive one undated ticket voucher, valid for a 2015 regular season Cougars game. All donated items will be given to area families who are in need this winter. The Cougars are requesting that items be donated by Friday morning, December 19.

Gwinnett Braves Award October Grant to Project Paws Alive

Organization receives $1,000 “Four Legged Friends” themed grant

Gwinnett BravesThe Gwinnett Braves have announced the recipient of their $1,000 grant for the month of October. Project Paws Alive, Inc. has been awarded the “Four Legged Friends” themed grant, aimed at funding an organization that benefits animals.

Project Paws Alive was created in 2012 when the founders heard about a series of Police K-9 deaths that could have been prevented had the dogs been wearing protective ballistic vests while on duty. Since forming, the organization has worked to provide K-9 stab and bullet proof protective vests, as well as other vital K-9 equipment to Law Enforcement, Fire, Search and Rescue and Military K-9 units nationwide.

Project-Paws-AliveThe $1,000 grant awarded by the Gwinnett Braves will help Project Paws Alive in their local mission, providing protective equipment to the nine dogs in the Gwinnett County Police Department’s K-9 unit. Their goal is to raise $16,000, which will provide each K-9 with a ballistic/spike protective vest as well as a K-9 trauma kit.

“We are absolutely honored to be the recipient of this grant so generously offered by the Gwinnett Braves,” said Cheryl Allen, Co-Founder and President of Project Paws Alive. “We are pleased to announce that this particular grant will be used to purchase protective equipment for our very own Gwinnett County Police K-9 Unit.”

Keys to Host Toys for Tots Drive

Frederick-KeysThe holiday season is right around the corner, and for the third consecutive season the Keys will be partnering with Toys for Tots. The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children.

Members of the Frederick community can drop off toys at Harry Grove Stadium starting on November 5, from 9-5 p.m, Monday to Friday. Anyone who donates a toy will receive two tickets to a 2015 Frederick Keys home game along with two Keys hats.

Toys-for-Tots-logo-2014bThe Toys for Tots Drive concludes on Saturday, December 13, when the Keys host their annual holiday event in the Mattress Warehouse Club.

“We received tremendous support from the community during our toy drive last year,” said Director of Marketing Bridget McCabe. “The Keys love bringing smiles to the faces of local kids during the holiday season, and our annual partnership with Toys for Tots allows us to do just that.”

The Keys Holiday Event on December 13 will run from 10am-1pm. More details will be available at a later date. Ticket plans for the 2015 season are now available, and can be purchased by calling an account manager at 301-815-9900. Every plan comes with the choice of a Zach Britton or Kevin Gausman bobblehead.

Frederick Keys Care Grants Awarded

Frederick-KeysIt is with great pleasure that the Frederick Keys, Class A minor league affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, announce the recipients of Frederick Keys Care grants for 2014-2015. The Frederick Keys Care Fund is a component fund of the Community Foundation of Frederick County. Joel Stephens played in the Baltimore Orioles’ minor league system until he lost his courageous battle with colon cancer in 1998 at the age of 22. The fund was established as the Joel A. Stephen’s Memorial Fund in 2002 to continue his desire to reach out to youth in need with compassion and encouragement.   In 2011 the fund’s name was changed, with the support of Joel’s family, to The Frederick Keys Care Fund in order to continue Joel’s legacy and to acknowledge the Frederick Keys commitment to furthering Joel’s fund.

Since its inception, The Frederick Keys Care Fund has awarded more than $53,000.00 to local youth organizations (including this year’s grant amount of $8,696.00). This year’s grant money will be divided among five projects for local nonprofit organizations.

Housing-Authority-of-Frederick-MDTeen Enrichment Program, Project ALIVE of the Housing Authority of the City of Frederick is designed to serve up to 15 teens, focusing specifically on those with aspirations to attend college and will include college visits and a two-day retreat focused on character building and team building. ($2,024.00)

Heartly-HouseChild Therapy Supplies, Heartly House located in Frederick, Maryland provides, among other things, therapeutic counseling to children who have been the victims of abuse or who have witnessed violence in their homes. Funding is being provided to buy specific supplies to engage children in therapy and enable their recovery as well as provide food for family meals during a concentrated group program called Strengthening Family Coping Resources. ($2,024.00)

Lead4Life-First Chance 4U Young Men’s Group Project, in partnership with the Frederick County Department of Juvenile Justice offices, will expand services to males 12-18 years of age who are involved or at high risk of involvement with the criminal justice system through a positive youth development model that is designed to reduce youth recidivism of crime and delinquent behaviors as well as teach how to cope with crisis. ($2,024.00)

Blessings-in-a-BackpackBlessings in a Backpack Frederick Schools, provides weekend nutrition to over 320 Frederick elementary school children who depend on the Free and Reduced Meal Program offered Monday through Friday in the schools. This grant will allow Blessings in a Backpack to help more students in need receive weekend nutrition. ($2,024.00)

Advocates-for-Homeless-FamiliesHomeless Youth Activities, Advocates for Homeless Families, serves youth in the Advocates’ programs by providing them with scholarships to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports and clubs during the school year and the Boys and Girls Club of Frederick County’s summer “bridges” program that keeps youth actively engaged in learning and fun over summer vacation to prevent summer learning loss and ensure they are ready for the new school year. ($600.00)

The Frederick Keys Care Fund is part of The Community Foundation of Frederick County’s Universal Grant Application funding program that takes place in the fall of each year. Nonprofit organizations that provide direct services to our Frederick County youth and young adults may apply on behalf of their programs. Members of the organization(s) who receive funding through “Frederick Keys Care” are invited to attend the luncheon following the annual Frederick Keys Charity Golf Classic to be recognized as the current Fund recipients and again on the field at Harry Grove Stadium prior to a Frederick Keys game as well as other activities that may seem appropriate.
